The salon was incredibly friendly, inviting, and had great conversations. They offered me tea, coffee, beer, or wine. Cute brick walls, skulls and mirrors and florals. Great and easy to find location right on 39th street. And oh my gosh! I couldn't gush more about Rachel! She was so kind and great! She listened to me and took care of my hair. Was honest about any questions I had, talked to me like a friend. All of the products she used smelt AMAZING and I definitely bought some before leaving. I've had a hard time finding a stylist that I fully trust and she won me over! Haha! I will definitely recommend trying out this place if you haven't already. I also got to talk to Sarah and she was awesome and kind as well!! I had years of home bleaching and coloring and Rachel was able to even out my hair to a full bleach platinum blonde like a blank slate. I will eventually color my hair again but I am so, so happy with the way it turned out and will be rocking the blonde awhile! I really love this place. Everyone is super nice, just regular people. Many great conversations have been had while getting my hair clipped, styled or recolored. Taylor is my girl! She doesn't let me leave until I'm happy. No one has ever paid that much attention to my satisfaction as a customer. She's also fantastic with men's trimming & styling. She makes sure I'll be happy with my husband's hair too. It's a top notch place next to sssooo many businesses right on 39th. Gabii is an amazing stylist and all around human being! She blessed me with a full head of dreadlocks over a year ago and when I decided to get rid of half of them, she was able to brush them out and somehow make my normal hair look healthier than ever before! I love going back whenever my remaining dreads need to be maintenanced, and she is super flexible with fitting me into her schedule! Best cuts I've ever had and the help that the staff gives in answering questions and making you feel like you are HOME is beyond amazing!

I am so low-maintenance that it's a little sad, but my best friend got married last week and hired Salon Beyond to do our hair and makeup, and I actually really enjoyed getting all dolled up! They came to us so I haven't seen the salon itself, but they were so professional. There were four bridesmaids, and three of them, so they got right to work. We each got airbrushed before receiving a full face of makeup, and our hair was curled and styled into a pretty updo. It was sweltering, and my makeup didn't run through my sweat or the inevitable wedding tears, and the updo stayed in place the whole day. I made it home that night looking like I had just left the salon, and that's hard to say. Sarah in particular was just wonderful. My allergies were going haywire (that's what happens when you have a wedding out in the country) and she was so patient with me, reapplying my eyelashes when the glue came undone. And while I was busy with getting gorgeous, she actually steamed my dress. She went so above and beyond and I can't say enough good things about her. There is only one negative for me, but it isn't so big that I wanted to deduct a star. The guy who did my hair was not gentle at all. He styled my hair like he was mad at me. My hair looked awesome, but really. It was the only point of the day that I didn't totally enjoy. read more

A friend recommended me the salon and Sarah and I couldn't be happier with the results! I had come to Sarah after a horrible experience at another salon that left my ombre looking super red which was not the color I was going for and after wasting $200 on multiple dye jobs that still didn't leave me with the results I wanted. I explained my hair coloring anxiety to Sarah which she totally understood but was super confident that it would turn out how I wanted, and it absolutely did!! Sarah was super attentive and made sure to explain everything she was doing and which color she recommended to compliment my skin tone. I followed my hairstylist, Jillian, from another salon, because she is a spectacular colorist. She has some special trick for applying color that looks multidimensional and totally natural. I would follow her anywhere, but I'm so glad that she settled here. I've been to plenty of salons (and even worked at a salon...), so I feel like I can make some fairly reasonable observations as far as they are concerned. There are plenty of places where the attitudes fly high or that are so busy you feel like you are entering a war-zone every time you drop in. Not so here. The few stylists here have every appearance of really getting along well with one another. Not any weird competitiveness as far as I can tell, and even when it is busy, the atmosphere stays upbeat. Their new receptionist is a complete doll too. She keeps the salon in great shape (I know how hard that can be when salons are taken over by bridal parties.), besides making sure all the clients are offered drinks and are entertained while they wait. Can't beat that service, let me tell you! And even though this a small space, situated in an old building on 39th Street, the have big open windows that let in lots of bright natural light. I have been going to Salon Beyond off and on for a few years and regularly for the last year or so. It has changed ownership once since I've been going and I have been really happy with what Sarah has done with the salon. The prices are really reasonable, the space is cute, they host fun events/parties. Everyone is friendly and a lot of fun. There is a great energy as well as a trendy, creative, professional staff who obviously enjoy working together. Shannon is my regular stylist and he's amazing! I get so many complements after my appointments and have given his name out a lot. Sarah cuts my kids' hair for less than the local barber shops! I love Sarah! I have been going to her for probably a year now. She makes my blond locks glow! She always takes time to ask if I want to make a change at the beginning of each appointment. She has even gotten to know me well enough to take the extra time to extend my appointments because we always seem to take quite a while with the trim and color. I love that she is thorough. She is also a great conversationalist, but doesn't try to push it if you just need to relax. To me, this is important if you are sitting in the chair for 2 hours. You can always have a glass of wine while you get pampered which also makes the conversation flow. I recently also got to experience Chloe's expertise in make artistry for my wedding day. I LOVED my make up! I cried and was a little bit of a emotional wreck and still looked my best. Sarah also did my hair for the day. Again, I really appreciated her attention to detail and willingness to change and adjust the styling as I wanted. Another friend, also in town for the party, and I had some bonding time by getting our nails done and decided a blow out would be the perfect finish to our pre-party pamper session. But we were on a tight schedule. We called probably 15 places, all closed before 6pm on a Friday! (WTH? KC) They accommodated the both of us, last minute, before they left for the night, and we made them late. Immediately greeted in a unique and inviting salon with exposed brick and retro furnishings. Very gregarious staff. Free beer! Our hair texture and density requires someone with specific experience, and they had it! Our hair looked and felt great. We were in and out in less than an hour. I am very selective when it comes to a hair stylist. I had the same stylist for eight years in my hometown. Finding a replacement was one of my biggest concerns when moving to KC. Thank goodness I found Sarah at Salon Beyond! The atmosphere at SB is very relaxed and comfortable. Sarah, Taylor and the rest of the staff are personable, caring, attentive and absolutely hilarious! Sarah always gives great haircuts and really listens to what her clients are looking for (example: I like having hair long enough to pull back in a ponytail that looks cute down, too, have to wash it at least once every day due to work, rarely have time to use a blow dryer, too lazy/busy to do any styling, don't use "extra" hair products, and I'm not too great about finding time to get in for regular trims, so I need it to "grow out nicely"--she gave me EXACTLY the cut I needed! I love it!) She's been cutting my hair for several years and I'd never go to anyone else now. Incredibly personable, empathetic, and kind. Salon Beyond seems to be doing an exceptional job, going above and beyond the safety recommendations, for Covid19 precautions and I felt completely safe during a recent visit (and my standards are very high!). Though some may consider the prices a little higher than some places you could get a haircut, they are actually quite low for other salons that offer hair care of this quality and attentiveness. All the very healthy Aveda products are available to purchase, but I've never felt pressured to buy anything I didn't ask for and need! So glad to be looking a lot less "homeless" after "staying at home" for months. It's a a pretty fantastic "my first pandemic" haircut and I would recommend Salon Beyond to anyone looking for high-quality hair care that is absolutely customized to your needs and wants! read more

Very friendly staff. Expensive. Was impressed with how my hair turned out, I even raved about it on reviews and friends that same day, but I got excited too soon and should of waited, considering it faded in just three days and looked terrible and super fried out. I was told it would take more toning to achieve the desired effect but didn't think what I already had would quickly vanish and look like I didn't even spend a dime to manage it. And to "tone it up" (basically fix it) would cost a few more visits of $50 a pop - not including tip - was upset at this because it meant I that I just spent butt loads of money for nice hair for only three days. I was going for gray-blue hair but could not afford this. The initial cost was steep but was told it was the going price. Needed my hair perfect for a trip I was going on but it never lasted long enough when I left on my trip - a week after I had my hair done. Ended up doing Sally Beauty at $10 for toning and it came out much better then my $250 salon visit (and I was charged that with a pixie cut, I fear what it would of been if I had super long hair) and lasted three months. I am very disappointed I wasted all that money. I feel bad as the hair dresser was very nice but I am not pleased with the end result. I've had my hair done by other hair dressers, though I had my problems here and there, never have I had my hair fade in this short amount of time. I've had rainbow hair once that lasted six months!! My horror story of terrible service at Salon Beyond... I had not been to the salon since management changed, and I greatly regret my decision to get a brow wax there. I did not expect to receive such despicable treatment. The girl who did my brows waxed over the same area twice. BIG NO NO. I immediately felt my skin start to sting. I told her that she hurt me and she responded, "Oh, you'll be okay after I put some aloe on you." I was shocked that my statement was completely dismissed. When she finished and I looked in the mirror, I saw a shiny area under my right brow where my skin had been pulled off! I'm not on any topical medicines that would cause sensitivity in the skin. The girl was incompetent and rude! The manager was unavailable when I went to pay. I didn't know what to do. I left upset and with skin missing. I called the salon the next day and asked for the manager, Sarah Snow. She was very apologetic on the phone and told me to come in to receive a refund. I did so the same day. Upon arriving at the salon, I was greeted with a much different demeanor than how Sarah was on the phone. I think it was because the girl who waxed me had gotten emotional. She looked as if she had been crying. She had the audacity to say that I was rude to her. I only said that she hurt me. I didn't call her inexperienced, incompetent or anything of the such. I should have, though. Sarah refunded my money and said I should have said I was unsatisfied before leaving the salon instead of waiting until the next day. I responded, "You weren't there, though! I can't believe she told me what I "should have" done. I felt very disrespected and did not appreciate Sarah's condescending attitude. Before I left, I said, "You need to make sure your estheticians are properly waxing clients or they can do some real damage." Sarah responded in an extremely aggressive manner and yelled at me to get out of her salon and to never come back. Again, I was in complete shock. I have never been yelled at like that before. I was very calm and left after that. I don't know if she was just having a bad day or what, but there is no excuse for treating someone like that. I left in tears. I hope my skin doesn't scar. It looks really gross right now. I don't know how the hair services are here, but definitely don't get waxed. And if you want excellent service from classy stylists, this isn't the place to go. read more

I absolutely love it here. As someone with very fine, blonde hair, I really appreciate when a hair stylist takes their time with my hair. I get my cuts and full highlights there and Sarah is always so thorough, which is definitely not the case everywhere. She has even had to fix bad highlights I had done at a different salon and my hair looked perfect after she was done. Better yet, they are always honest about what they think is best to keep my hair healthy and I really trust their opinion. They also never made me feel pressured to buy any of their hair products, which I always appreciate because that stuff can get pricey. Their services may seem expensive, but it's so worth it. I walked in the receptionist did not greet me appropriately - she just asked who I was "here" for - then said "OK" and walked away, never to return. I waited over 15 minutes for my stylist (I am a new client) to come get me for our appointment (she was approximately 5 feet away with another customer), but not once did she smile or acknowledge me or even say "I will be right with you." NOTHING. She even came to answer the phone while I was waiting there, and didn't saying ANYTHING. I was the only person waiting for an appointment, so it was obvious it was me, esp. since there was only one other stylist there. The receptionist went M.I.A. and didn't even offer me tea or a place to sit (as is customary with Aveda salons). After the 15 minute mark, with still no acknowledgement, I walked out. They did not deserve to get my business. I doubt if they will be around long, and their foyer smelled like cat pee. read more
