I've been seeing Echo for a 3 haircuts now, and I can confidently say she's amazing at what she does! She's friendly with an easygoing vibe, which makes the whole experience really comfortable. Echo listens to what I'm asking for and consistently delivers what I envision. My hair turns out fresh and just how I like it. This review is for the Ward location... although perhaps maybe an overall review as it may pertain to other locations. While eating at the little "food court" outside of Bobbi and Guy's Ward location with my kids, I noticed a sign in the window says "10% off kids haircuts and a free small hairbrush" with a subtitle saying "when you sign up our mailing list" (or something to that effect). It gave a URL to sign up at. So while eating lunch, I decided to sign up. I took my son inside after we ate to cut my son's hair. The guy (can't remember his name) was personable, friendly and efficient. When paying though, I asked about the 10% off and was told I needed to show the email newsletter. I opened my email to show my "thank you for joining our mailing list" email but she said that isn't really sufficient... I need to show the email with the coupon in it. I told her I hadn't received it yet as I just joined. After doddling around a little bit, she said she'd give me the 10% off anyway (but no brush) but next time I will need to have or show the coupon. I don't really think it's the girl's fault at the front, it's probably more of a management decision. But advertising should not make it sound like you get the 10% off when you join the newsletter only to be told later that you need a coupon or email to actually get the discount (and that the emailed coupon is NOT immediately sent when signing up). 5 stars for the guy who cut my son's hair... minus 2 for the lack of straight forward advertising. read more

Update 10/11/16: So I have been growing my hair out for the last almost 10 months since getting my hair fixed with Ryan. Because I frequently color my hair, my ends were in need of a trim. I was able to quickly book my appointment with Ryan the Hair Wizard. Ryan gave me soft layers around my face as well as long bangs, since I wanted to change up my look a bit. I loved how gentle-handed he was with the brushing and combing of my hair - I am tender-headed and have had stylists rock my head back and forth, combs scrape my ears and scalp, and forcefully tug when blow-drying. Ryan has a very gentle and graceful touch, for which I am very grateful! I left feeling fabulous once again, with most of my length and with my head feeling lighter. Thanks again for another wonderful haircut, Ryan! Original Post: Was desperate to get my hair fixed! I had it cut from my waist to what was supposed to be an angled long bob (shorter in the back, longer towards the front.) At the time I had it done, it was very pretty. But as my hair began to grow out, and when I would let my hair dry naturally, I would look like the bottom part of a bell-bottom pant! Just...shaped like a freaking bell! I met Ryan while out and about recently and he gave me his card. I was working in the Ala Moana area and decided on a whim to call the salon and make an appointment. This review is soo late in the making, but I figure its never to late for a positive review! I came here honestly maybe close to 2 months ago. I came in to have my hair done for my graduation pictures from college (woohoo!) and I had Anna do my hair. Idk if thats how you spell her name honestly! Sorry if youre reading this! Anna was super friendly and sweet! Come to find out were the same age and we have lots in common! I was happy to have had a really nice person working on my hair since I cherish it dearly! My hair is all the way down to the lowest part of my back already. I wanted to have the Kim Kardashian curls going on and I dont personally curl my hair at all thus having me go to a salon. I was very impressed with how it turned out and how long the curls held! Usually my hair doesnt hold a curl or style for long so yeah I was pretty impressed. I went in about 11:00am and my pictures werent until 4:00pm so thats really, really early!They obviously held and stayed fabulous! I will be posting a picture of how they came out shortly! If I needed to come and get my hair curled again, I would definitely come back and see Anna! I would highly recommend you seeing her and I think she is more than capable of doing other things that you may want done as well! Words cannot describe how ridiculous my experience was here, but I can try. I called Bobbi and Guy about a day before my 7pm appointment, asking if they could relax my bangs into kind of a body wave, but with minimal damage (I straight-ironed it a lot). The receptionist over the phone said it was NO problem, and priced it around $50-60- OH yeah, I was assigned Bobbi. I was so excited the next evening! I walked in with semi-wet hair (I had deep-conditioned it prior) and as I sat down, I noticed that Bobbi was styling the woman's hair next to me. When it was my turn (about a 15-minute wait), I explained to Bobbi what it was that I wanted to do with my bangs. Seriously, it was a very simple request...and she had NO idea what the hell I was talking about. Very halted English on her part, all she kept saying was, "We're going to straighten it, make it more manageable". "Okay, but I don't want it completely straight, though. I just want it to be kind of flipped out on the end. You can do that?" "Uhhh...we can straighten, make it more manageable". This lasted for at least a few minutes, and I still had NO idea what she meant by 'more manageable'. Finally, I buckled down because I didn't think I had anything to lose, but I should have realized this was a bad idea already. She was pretty bossy and rude to her assistant, who was the SWEETEST girl, and upon applying the relaxing treatment to my bangs, she kept leaving it unattended and it would slap against my eyelids! That stuff STINGS so bad. I made a mention of it and Bobbi spazzed out, made me drop EVERYTHING and run to the sink, forced me to wash my eyes out, and even after being drenched...forced me to wash it out AGAIN. Keep in mind, this was probably a 3-minute ordeal, and the chemical in my hair WASN'T being timed yet. I sat down, she continued where she left off, and the stuff SMEARED on my eye again. I tried not to say anything, but when I thought it was burning a hole through my eyeball, I whimpered a little bit and now, Bobbi forced me to violently scrub my eyes with a damp washcloth. My hair stunk, my face and eyes burned, and THE CHEMICALS WEREN'T BEING TIMED! Oh God, I was so scared. About 15 minutes AFTER she first put the stuff on my hair, it was finally rinsed out and blow-dried. And to my surprise!...it looked NOTHING like how I wanted it to. It was (and IS) completely STICK-STRAIGHT and dry. And the rest of my hair is wavy/curly. Seriously an ugly contrast. I just wanted to leave at that point, but she wouldn't allow me to leave unless I bought this ridiculously expensive Milkshake mousse '20% off', she says, 'because you got haircut'. Oh, and a hairbrush, too. I didn't know what to do, I declined THREE TIMES. So now the total came from $50-60 bucks, TO $93 with tip. The mousse was $20 with the discount! I paid almost $100 BUCKS to turn my hair (and face) into garbage! Please, I'm begging you, save yourself the trouble. Go to the Paul Mitchell school where it's cheaper, they listen, they speak better English, and although it's longer, you almost always come out extremely satisfied. read more

If you get a bad haircut, if your stylist went overboard with the cutting, if you are unsatisfied with what happened to your hair, you will not get a refund but might get an unwanted touch-up from the owner of this overpriced, mediocre salon. For me, a touch-up was not what I wanted but was the most that the owner, Bobbi, a stubborn Japanese lady, could afford for an upset customer. I went to Bobbi & Guy twice, the first time was awesome and the stylist captured what I wanted which made me go back a couple months later. The second time, however, the stylist, who shall remain anonymous, royally disfigured my hair. If you think I'm just being vain and dramatic about this, try walking home from work and having bratty 12 year old kids make fun of your hair ON THE STREET. It's a humiliating experience, especially for a young adult trying to make a professional impact in his community. Let me explain what I wanted and what I got. I won't go into too much detail because I may trigger some unnecessary resentment. I asked the sides of my head to be trimmed but to keep the length on top for a quasi-emo yet professional look look. 'Professional' was in my description, mind you. When I asked for the length difference to be more drastic, the stylist took the shortest length shaver he had and scraped away my hair, leaving behind an island of black on my bald scalp like a thick, unflattering mohawk. He kept the length, but only in front, where my bangs swept my eyes like Gary Olsen in The Fifth Element. The back was extremely short and was not even blended. Both my sister and a coworker told me it looked like a toupee. Understandably, Bobbi wanted to see my horrible do before she could make a decision, but she had me come in on the stylist's schedule to evaluate my complaint. I paid more than $30 to get made fun of, and the owner of a salon wants me to come in on her employee's time? This did not sooth my soul. After demanding a refund and nearly getting kicked out of the salon, Bobbi would not relent on a refund as if it were impossible. I told her that it was totally doable, that refunds can be made on credit cards and all it took was a single swipe on the card reader, but no. Bobbi's policy is set in stone like frickin' Moses and the Ten Commandments. She said I can get a free haircut from the guy who messed up my hair and a free touch-up, but that was it. I conceded because I was tired and Bobbi's adamant position was stronger than mine. I ended up with an extremely short, military looking hair cut. In fact, I think the military barbers do a better job. I stormed out of the salon like an angry Joe Pesci. To make matters worse, a group of old-ass, white-collared women, obviously Bobbi's entourage, were sitting outside of the salon waiting for the drama to subside. I threw furious looks at the Golden Girls, even when one of them tried to compliment my ugly crew cut. "It looks good," she said, insincerely. I wanted to puke in her cappuccino. I guess my complaints were so noticeable that I drew bourgeois spectators outside like a modern day gladiator battle between an established salon and a barbaric customer. I haven't even gotten my free haircut yet because I'm afraid of what I might get if I do. Congratulations, Bobbi & Guy. A well deserved one star. read more

I have been going to Salon Bobbi and Guy for a little over a year now and I have always had good experiences EXCEPT for the last time I went. The thing is, the stylist who usually does my hair does a great job. In fact, the time I went before this incident was my most favorite time I have ever gotten my hair done. However, I was extremely upset this last time. I went in for my usual: a trim and highlights. After spending a lot of money, I went home to see that I still had roots!! And not just a little bit, but about half an inch of dark brown hair coming out of my part before my highlights started. Nothing like spending $200 and still looking like you need to get to the salon ASAP. I went back 2 days later to let my stylist know, and she pretty much dismissed me. She said that that was how she had to do it. I don't know what that means, but my hair is not damaged, so there was no reason for her to have not done a thorough job. I was pissed that I was walking out without so much as an appointment to fix it. It's a couple of weeks later, and my roots have grown out so much and look so bad that I am going to have to go to drop a ton of cash to get it fixed..AGAIN. Before this incident, I have always had pleasant experiences with Bobbi and Guy salon, but I will NOT be going back. It is not worth it to risk spending all of that money on a terrible job that they refuse to fix. My only reason for the two stars instead of one is because of my previous experiences. This salon is like russian roulette. Choose your stylist carefully. read more

I love this place. But I think I pretty much love it cause my stylist is amazing. I highly recommend Cathy if you get any kind of chemical treatment, especially. This chick knows what she is doing!! She is an expert, especially with blonde hair, and she takes her work really seriously. She is a true artist with hair. I have been going to her for about 4 years! I go in for partial highlights and a trim and I walk out every time feeling amazing-- like I should be in slow-mo on a pantene commercial. For real. While expensive (~$140-/+)-- it is worth it IMHO. The ambiance leaves a little to be desired....it feels a little dated and the music could be a little more upbeat. However, this place makes me feel like I am in a nice salon, but with out the stuck up vibe. It's comfortable. Also, I like that the owner, Bobbie is there almost every day working. She probably doesn't even have to (they have multiple locations and I think they are doing rather well)- but she has killer work ethic and obviously has a sincere passion for her business. read more

I have voluminous frizzy hair for an Asian, so hair cuts are extremely important. For all you big-haired individuals like me, come down to Bobbi & Guy because I no longer have a fro. My mom actually called it a rat's nest, but it no longer exists, I think.... Anyway, I love this place because my hair stylist is extremely pleasant and does an excellent job each time. I pay around $63 (including tip) and I do not regret a single penny. I always feel so guilty for giving her the burden of trimming my bushy locks because it takes approx. two hours for just a haircut!! I would be throwing shampoo bottles across the room, as well as the scissors, if given such a task. But no...my stylist maintains a positive attitude and lets me sample the top-of-the-line products. How nice! :) Nonetheless, these wonderful remarks only refer to the WARD Bobbi and Guy because the Pearlridge one sucks. This opinion is based on my first and LAST haircut there. The evil woman who caused this grudge was practically pulling my hair while combing it, and scraped the hard bristles against my scalp. Not to be dramatic, but I wouldn't be surprised if all my hair fell off the next day. She wasn't even friendly. The only time she talked to me was to move my head. I mean jeez...it's not my fault I was born w/ huge hair. She even charged way more than Ward's, and my hair looked lame. I have a friend who had the same experience...and she has nice straight her, if that makes a difference! Bottom line: Bobbi & Guy is awesome, excluding the Pearlridge one. You know how hard it is to find a good stylist and I was reminded of it when I cheated on her and went to another stylist based on location. Never again. In fact, I'm having a hard time writing this review because I know once I spill the beans about how awesome she is, I'll have to share her even more but that's besides the point. Kim takes the time to understand what you want and need. As a result, you end up leaving with a great haircut & style. So good, in fact, that I have started going to her for wash and style because my hair looks GREAT and lasts almost a week after a style (and I usually have to wash every other day) Her skills are not limited to just cut & style though. She is a fantastic colorist and if you're a brunette trying to go blonde, you know how scary and common it is to get that orangey/brassy look - she gives you the real blonde you want (scroll though the pics, you'll see what I mean - but they don't do her work justice). Her scheduled days are: M,T, F & Su - and her prices are higher than those listed and I'd take a star away from that but dang it - she's worth it. So be prepared to spend some money but walk away satisfied that your stylist has taken the time to give you the best - and if you're doubtful, the looks you get from those who pass you will reassure you that you've made the right decision. read more

If you had told me after my first experience that I would give this salon another try, I probably would've punched you in the face. There is something to be said for second chances however, and the willingness of a business to change. After being contacted by the salon manager, it still took me a few weeks to pull the trigger and actually agree to another experience. Now I'm so glad I did because I think I found my stylist! :) I had my blow-out with Tiara, who is a cute little red-headed asian girl with THE GENTLEST touch! Despite encountering some snarls, she never once made me wince, and she gave me the most relaxing head massage during the shampoo! She listened well, and responded by styling my hair exactly how I wanted, and even spending extra time making sure my hair had loads of volume since I had mentioned how it tends to be flat. She did not chit-chat overmuch, which I really appreciate since it tends to be awkward making too much small talk with a complete stranger. However, she asked the important questions about my hair. The salon looked tidier than the last time, and I didn't particularly notice lots of boxes everywhere as I did last time. It still could do with a thorough dusting, but the floor was clean, and there were no clumps of hair on the floor - another improvement over my last experience. Overall - I'm definitely bumping up my rating. As long as I stick with Tiara, I think I will be safe to visit Bobbi and Guy again!! And I'm planning on doing so in a few weeks when I have Tiara trim my hair. :) I might even ask her to give me some bangs. And I trust very few people with cutting bangs! read more

This place was okay. I only went here because I really needed a trim, I was in the area and they accepted walk-ins. Within 20 minutes I was able to be seen and she quoted me $51 and got to work on my hair. It was an alright haircut but I wish she hadn't charged me so much for just a trim and I feel like she cut off more than I had asked and when she was straightening it she kind of half-assed it- like, I look forward to the salon straightening my hair because I can never get it that good, but in this case I could. My hair did also not feel extra silky like usual after leaving- a little bit disappointed here. So, I probably won't go there again. I'd rather go to J Salon (right down the street) or back to Hairscapes even though it's kind of out of my way. But they were alright, but pricey for being "just alright" read more

My relationship with Bobbi, the owner, actually started professionally in 2008- I helped retrofit all their shops to be energy efficient and rebated them in order to lower his overhead. Her personality, business character and clear focus on quality customer care got me to take his advice and get a quality men's cut. I've been coming here since. For the past few years, I've been getting my haircuts/colors from Cathy at the Ward location. I'm really picky about how my hair looks, so for me to completely trust her is a BIG deal. She does an awesome job every time. Oh and I'd recommend her because she also massages your head a bit while shampooing. I'm not sure if that's a service the salon provides in general or if it's just something she does, but whatever the reason, i love it. My first experience with Bobbi and Guy was a little daunting. I knew the salon was a little pricey, but since I've been cheap and getting my hair mangled at low-end salons, I decided that my "rat's nest" really needed a professional touch. I booked a random reservation and decided to take a leap with any stylist assigned to me. I was assigned Tiara Nguyen and thought how this tiny, cute, little thing can manage my thick, frizzy hair. She gave one of the best consultations I have ever had (the other was with Michele @ Marsha Madaline - Kahala)! She listened that I wear my hair up in a pony-tail daily, but wanted the freedom to still have some style while I wear it down outside of work. She even requested to see how high or low I wear my pony-tail because I did not want bangs or fight with stray hair. After the consultation, she told me that her rate for today's cut was $60. Ok, not shocking at all. Like other guest reviews, the head massage was great! I was also very tired, and she recognized this and didn't chat me up. Additionally, this was one of the most fastest haircut and style I ever completed. Normally, other stylists take 1-1/2 hrs - 2 hrs. Tiara finished the entire appointment within an hour. She also took the time to give me recommendations of the hair product I needed and how to apply it properly. I recommend Tiara Nguyen and will probably follow her until her rates exceed the value of my hair (ha, ha). read more

If you're female, though, you should specify whether you're doing just a cut or cut with the whole (blowout and style) shebang, because there's a $10 or so difference in price, and you gotta make that clear (generally at Bobbi and Guy, men's cuts start at $30, but women's begin at $50--but it depends on the stylist and also your hair). You can walk out looking great with your hair done did, or just have its shape cleaned up without the extra styling. Decide which, then communicate. I have lived on island for almost 2 years now and have been terrified to get my hair done. I had my wedding pictures this weekend and was referred to Bobbi & Guy from the girls at MAC. I called and made an apt and also a consultation apt for two weeks before. They set me up with RYAN, I went in for the consultation and it was quick and easy and two weeks later I went in for my actual hair! I have fairly long hair but it's fine, Ryan did a wonderful job making it look so full and the curls were perfect for my hair type! I had the exact Kardashian look that I wanted! I have read nothing but great reviews on this place. My experience, however, was much different. On Friday, June 6, I set up an appointment with Ryan for a trim and root touch-up on my hair. When I arrived at the salon, Ryan greeted me and asked which service(s) I had wanted to receive. Once I told him, he had me take my hair out of my ponytail and instantly, a look of disgust came across his face and he said "oh." I was kind of thrown off by the look and comment so I just waited for him to say something. Finally, he said "yeah, I'm not going to do your hair. Maybe Cathy, our color expert can." I replied "is something wrong with my hair?" And he said "your ends are extremely dry and they'll probably melt off when I dye them." Once again, I explained I wanted my damaged ends all cut off and just a root retouch on my blonde roots and auburn hair. Then Ryan said "I'm still not going to do it. Cathy can help you." I got out of the chair and walked over to Cathy, while I was still confused by Ryan's response. When Cathy looked at my hair, she said "ummm yeah, we don't do your type of hair." I responded "I'm not sure what that means." Then she said again "we don't do your type of hair. Sorry." Immediately, I got out of my chair and said "that's fine, I'll go somewhere else. Don't worry about it." Besides having such a rude comment made towards me, I'm unsure as to how a salon is still open and they can't do certain types of hair. My hair is thick and almost coarse, typical Mediterranean Caucasian hair. In the last 10+ years, I have gotten my hair done approximately every 3 months (trims, touch-ups, deep conditioning treatments, ect) and have never once had any stylist, let alone 2, be so rude to me. I would highly advise that if anyone is looking into Bobbi & Guy salon, they're extremely cautious & make sure they have desirable hair for the stylists since apparently they can pick and choose based off of ethnicity. read more

I went here ONCE several years ago to get my eyebrows waxed. I will never go here again. I'm only writing this to prevent others from experiencing the horror I experienced. So first they took me into the waxing room and I told the person doing my brows to DO NOT make it thin, just clean up and natural shape. I should have gotten a clue when I looked at their eyebrows and it was super thin **kicking self**. When they were done I swear I had these pencil thin eyebrows and I looked surprised all the time. I was so pissed. I didn't know what to do so I just paid for it, NO TIP and ran out of there as fast as I could. This was such a waste of money and I had to wait a while for my brows to grow back. Don't ever go here for an eyebrow wax unless you like the surprised thin pencil look. read more

i see a lot of low reviews for this salon, but let me just start out by saying.. there may be many locations of the same named business, but each individual worker will perform differently. unfortunately, one bad apple spoils the bunch, but if you are ever in doubt.. check out MY STYLIST, CATHY for Color, Cuts (ladies & mens), Corrections, Facial Waxing, Makeup, Updos, & Weddings! she may be young, but girl's got MAJOR talent. down to earth, on top of that.. can you say, "HAIR DOCTOR"?! i've had 2 color corrections (she was not the cause, but the fixer of it..) done by her, and through every appointment i've had with her we would discuss what she was going to so i wouldn't be.. "SURPRISED". she also very thorough in explaining what products to use to upkeep your $tyle, and thats YOUR choice whether or not you want to follow what the doctor prescribes. Girl gets busy, so i suggest making an appointment prior. Consultations are always free.. so if you're scared to make a commitment, do a speed date(; I'm just saying... you get what you pay for, and she's definitely worth it. read more
