I really wasn't happy with the highlighting cause he didn't weave through my hair like other hair stylist did than he asked me how did I want my haircut I told him a layered cut blended in with my hair swept to the side and bangs cut short but not to short he told me to try something new but I know my hair and how I want being that this was the first time meeting I felt he was unprofessional and just did what he wanted not what I felt comfortable with. He did a sloppy cut and didn't even layer it the took 10 minutes and I really wasn't happy with the service than tried to sell me shampoo/conditioner which was cheap I told him NO THANK YOU I'm good. I got my hair cut back in September and it was the worst hair cut experience I have ever had. Probably one of the best hair experiences I have had ever. Some background-- I have long, thick, coarse hair that is mostly straight. All virgin hair and I donʻt use heat on it. I like it long, my husband likes it long, and I feel like it is healthy. That being said, without fail almost every hair stylist I have ever been to makes me feel like shit for wanting to keep it long. My last hair cut before coming here was at another local salon (Aveda) and the girl convinced me to cut about 6 inches and do layers because she thought I had too much hair and this was supposed to thin it out and look sleeker. I told her specifically I am a shower and go type of person and didnʻt want a hair cut that only looked good when styled....which is exactly what she did. It took half a year to grow out the layers and they just looked poofy unless I styled them. I am a busy person who liked to swim in the ocean and be outside, I donʻt want to worry about my hair only looking good with a loads of product and a hair dryer. Had the same experience multiple times at Marsha Nadalin too. Flash forward to now, been about 18 months since a true haircut (outside of me trimming the ends at home) and just felt it was time! Called Paul Brown after work hoping they could squeeze me in. Used to come here in the early 2010s, not sure why I stopped because the service here is so much better than other salons I have tried over the years. The receptionist was very kind and friendly, and was accommodating when I called to say I was running about 5 minutes late. I was mentally prepping myself to be made to feel like an idiot for wanting to keep long hair, and was fully prepared to cut it shorter and just start anew. Fortunately, I lucked out and got booked with Deo who assured me my ends were not split and I just need some shaping and to keep the long layers. I felt like he was one of the few stylists who actually understood both my personal wishes and the texture of my hair and trimmed it in a way that didnʻt make it frizzy without tons of product. My son has thick, healthy, naturally curly hair, and our experiences have been hit and missed at barber shops throughout the island. During this pandemic, it has been nearly impossible to get a haircut and that's understandable. As soon as the salon was able to open, I booked an appointment right away from a recommendation. I booked an appointment with Alex. When I got there, I was greeted by a temperature check, which was expected since we are all taking careful precautions. You are required to wear a mask, which of course is no problem. It was my first time getting my hair cut in over a year and as usual I felt anxious about getting it cut. However, Alex made me feel comfortable and explained everything he was doing before he started snipping away. I appreciated that he made me feel at ease during the whole appointment and even shared some tips about curling my hair. We even discussed some hair goals that I had in mind and told him I'd love for him to color my hair and he said he would be able to help me reach my hair goals. In the end, I got a long layered cut and some long bangs. It turned out amazing! I felt like my once shapeless hair had movement again and I was feeling like a new woman! I get the bill and it's $125. Meanwhile the website says a haircut by PAUL BROWN HIMSELF (who I later found out is dead) is $130. So I suppose I got a haircut from the ghost of Paul brown?? Really not sure what occurred here but I don't think it's fair to surprise customers with these prices when clearly their website pricing is extremely outdated. I needed a new brow place so my friend Andrew recommended Nathan from the Paul Brown salon so I made the appointment online which was very easy and convenient. The day of my appointment I had a hard time finding the salon and the receptionist was so nice and friendly I knew this was going to be a great experience. (The receptionist, secretaries, and front office staff are what really make or break the type of experience you have. It is the first impression of the whole business and they work extremely hard dealing with the public.) Once I was checked in I waited about 5 minutes and Nathan greeted me with a handshake and a smile. :-) Through out the experience he explained what he was doing, why he was doing it and made me feel very comfortable. Absolutely worst hair cut I've ever had. My hair was to my boobs, big hollywood waves. I asked for the stylist to cut 2.5 inches. He cut about 5. When I said something he denied it and said he took "just a little bit more" because it was thin on the ends. I asked for long layers, I got a cut that is almost straight across. Sure it will grow back but he did not listen to me and I'm heartbroken. My long hair was part of me and made me feel attractive and because he decided to make it "healthier" it is now barely to my collar bone. If I let it go curly it is probably going to go to my chin. Just absolutely ridiculous and I can't believe someone would think it would be ok to take an extra few inches off someone's hair. read more

I've been wanting to get my hair relaxed for awhile now - I did it before back in 2019 at Regis Salon. I loved the results from Regis and so I decided to try getting my hair relaxed again but at another salon. I wanted to find a place that was close to where I lived and affordable, but I also wanted great results. I finally decided to try Paul Brown because I looked on their website and it said that their relaxers start at around $150. I thought that was reasonable since that's how much it cost at Regis to relax my hair. I have very wavy, thick, Hawaiian hair and sometimes it's really frizzy. So I wanted to relax my hair so that it was more manageable, less frizzy, and didn't "poof" up so much. I also recently cut my hair to shoulder length, so my hair definitely poofed up a lot. I called the salon and made an appointment at 10:30. I got there about 5 min before my appointment and they immediately sat me down, which was awesome. I only had to wait a little while before my hair stylist, Rose, came and started a consultation. She asked me if I did it before, I told her yes and that I loved the results before. I told her I didn't want my hair straight per se, but I did want it to be somewhat straight and I wanted to keep my curls on the ends of my hair. I told her that I didn't want my hair to stick up, and I wanted it to weigh down so it's not so frizzy, especially after the beach or in the sun. It sounded like she knew what I was going for, and that gave me some confidence that I was going to get the hair I wanted. Then she told me that the price would be $250 - and that made me second guess my appointment. But I thought "hey, if she gets what I'm trying to say, then maybe it'll be worth it." Fast forward to 3 hours, while she's straightening my hair (after she washed the product out), it looked like how my hair would normally look after I get out of the shower. So I was pretty disappointed by that. But when she straightened my hair it looked really nice, it was straight, shiny, and super soft! I thought "wow it definitely was worth the money!" Rose told me that she had to straighten my hair so that the heat could activate the chemical properties in the relaxer, so that my hair could set. She also told me that I couldn't get my hair wet or I couldn't tie it up for the next 48 hours. She said if I did, the treatment wouldn't work as well and the hair would revert back to how it was pre-treatment. From the time I got my hair done to now, I didn't get it wet or put it up in any way. Fast forward to today, approximately 3 days after getting my hair done. I finally washed my hair and I couldn't wait to see how my hair has improved. Unfortunately, I see little to no change in my hair! My hair is still frizzy and poofy in some areas, especially on the top (where the sun hits the most). I just think if I spent $250 for a treatment that won't even last 3 months, I should have better results than this! I should have just went back to Regis, even if it's all the way in Kaneohe. I loved Rose, she was really sweet and friendly. But I just wish I got more out of my hair for the price I paid. I'm pretty sure I'm never going back here again. read more

Went there THREE times for cut and color....the cut was ok but nothing special or nothing that you cant get at Fantastic Sams or Super Cuts......as far as the color.....three separate occasions I told them I wanted medium to light brown with red overtones I didn't want my hair coming out dark, three times it came out very DARK brown and not the color I wanted.
