She even texted me that morning for additional instructions so she really makes it hassle-free! I stumbled upon this place in search of a high quality salon that was nearby to my studio in the arts district. I needed a haircut pretty badly as I was rocking a quarantine mane and the added weight was not doing it for me. Salon calico is nestled in an unassuming building of warehouse converted studio spaces. You must text the owner in order to enter the building: there is no front entrance. They are just beginning operations (less than 2 weeks old) so the space is a bit empty. But combined with the owners husband's photography and some really cool salon furniture they are bound to have a boutique and beautiful studio in the coming weeks. Olivia, the owner, is so friendly and coffee/other beverages will be offered upon arrival. (Ask her about her talent for accents ) She'll walk you through the process and discuss what kind of look you're going for. I kind of left it in her hands as I needed a change. She brought up a perfect inspiration picture and created the look with my own natural flair and features. Couldn't be more happy and will be returning. OLIVIA IS AN AMAZING STYLIST! I am super cautious over who I let cut/style my hair because of a bad experience with another stylist, but my experience at this salon was by far the best experience I've ever had with any stylist. Right off the bat they were super friendly and were super attentive to what I wanted. I showed them a few reference pictures and from that they made not just a perfect replication of the style I suggested, but better since they fit it to what would frame my face best considering that my hair is really heavy and thick. I have a LOT of hair and it usually takes my stylists forever to cut my hair but Olivia worked really quickly but without making me feel like they were rushing to get me out of there--it felt as though I were talking to a friend meanwhile still having that professional feel. I wish I weren't moving out of town otherwise I would always come back to Oliva; they are an amazing stylist and I will most certainly come back when I return to LA. To anyone reading this: take this from someone who has had MAJOR trust issues with hair stylists in the past--GO TO THIS SALON! Truly could not have better things to say about Salon Calico and Olivia!! I've been seeing Olivia for a handful of years now and she has knocked it out of the park every single time. A genuine hair goddess. She's the only person I trust my hair with, and does amazing cuts but is really truly a wizard with color. I have fine hair that was always extremely prone to breakage when lightened, but once I started seeing Olivia she was able to lighten my hair to exactly the level I wanted, but did it with a level of care and correct color/products so that my hair is still healthy, shiny, and I'm able to grow it out while still being the blonde I want! She's also happy to explain what she's doing and why in a way that's understandable (even to me who knows nothing about hair), which I personally really appreciate. She's also just so sweet and personable that every appointment is really fun, even when I first started seeing her! (Also never tries to upsell you on product which is great!!) She's the only stylist I've ever continued going back to after more than a month or two, and is so worth it I've followed her through salons for years, but Calico is my favorite!
