This is my second time giong to Salon D'shayn for a brazillian wax and I can easily say I will never go anywhere else. For starters I am a neat freak so cleanliness in salons is very big for me. Salon D'Shayn is the model of what every salon should be like. The salon, supplies, furniture everything is always clean and sanitary. The service is always great and timely. I have always been greeted with a friendly face and offered a water, coffee etc. My appointment was with D'lisa and she did an amazing job as usual. She makes you feel like going in for a wax is like grabbing a drink with your girls for happy hour. It's true that she is the Goddess of waxing. REFUSED SERVICES TO MOM WITH DEMENTIA!! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A DISABILITY, DO NOT SUPPORT SUCH A SHAMEFUL BUSINESS!! WHAT IF THEY REFUSED YOUR MOM?!?! My mother is 71, has dementia and did not deserve such humiliation! We were refused reasonable accommodations (a normal chair to sit in, not a bar chair) to have her nails done by Leticia. After leaving, the owner D'Lisa called me not to apologize for the horrific experience, but to confirm I would not be returning. I was astounded! As a family, we decided we will not be pursuing an ADA complaint at this time, but be clear, discrimination occurred and shame on you. The whole story... My mother was visiting me from out-of-state, possibly one of her last travels due to declining abilities. I just wanted to give her a special beauty date! Going by what she advised me she needed, I booked an acrylic fill for her. She fell a few days before her appointment and broke 2 nails. I knew she may need a little extra time and tried to called the salon to reach Leticia to discuss, but was unable to speak with her. Regardless, nails break and I figured a competent nail tech could still service us. After a 20 mile drive from north Phoenix (just to come to them), we arrived at Salon D'Shayne very excited (3/18/16 at 3:20 pm for a 3:30 pm appt). We were met with tons of stares (I felt due to my mother's age, her condition and we are not the trendy clientele they are used to. I honestly felt from their reviews they would be even more accepting of ANYONE, including my sweet mom.). Because of my mother's recent fall, I held onto her arm as we navigated the small walkways (in my opinion too small for wheelchair, walker or even crutches) back to the restroom. This was my first view of the nail station-a BAR! I immediately became concerned for my mom's safety climbing into a bar chair, but figured we could request a normal chair. We arrived back in the lobby and sat on normal height chairs, browsing their reviews and photos, hoping my mom would be inspired to get her hair done there, too. We continued to ignore the seemingly judgemental stares (including by D'Lisa). We were called back 5 minutes late and greeted with an extremely wary Leticia. I quickly advised her my mother has dementia and due to a recent fall, I was concerned for her safety on a bar chair. I asked for reasonable accommodations-a normal chair-for her to sit beside the bar. Leticia said "no", that it was not possible for her to work on my mom's nails while sitting in a regular chair. She then looked at my mom's nails and informed us we had not booked enough time because my mom would need a full set (I accept blame for booking the wrong amount of time). I asked Leticia if there was anything at all she could do to help us with her nails today and she said "no". No offer to remove the nails and just do a manicure, no offer to reschedule, no offer to make other reasonable accommodations, no apology even, just "No". IT QUICKLY BECAME CLEAR MY MOTHER WAS NOT WELCOME AT SALON D'SHAYNE. Humiliated, we left out of the back door. Within 10 minutes of leaving, owner D'Lisa called me. She said she had heard that they weren't able to to do my mom's nails because of my mother's medications (which was absolutely never said). No apology heard. D'Lisa quickly asked if the future appointments I booked were for me or my mom and did I really want to keep them (implying they were cancelling my appts for me-I had booked 3 future nail & 1 hair consult appt thinking I had found a perfect salon for me). In shock, I advised "At this point, I guess no." She quickly said "Thank you, bye" and disconnected. As if all of this wasn't bad enough... I soon received email confirmation of my future appointment cancellations. Apparently they changed my booking name (see photo) then cancelled it, which accidentally allowed me to see that I have been banned from the salon. I would love to see what their "notes" say. I am so saddened and outraged by this experience. How dare anyone treat my AMAZING, LOVING mother this way?!?! DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. read more

I'm picky about my salons. Don't like when they take themselves too seriously or there's a pretentious air. Salon D'Shayn felt welcoming and laid back but still stocked with talent. Bao did my cut and I have thick, straight Asian hair, which you can't just cut any old way or else it's very mom like (no offense to moms). We were going for an angled lob, but I had requested that the back not be too short so we ended up with not much of an angle. After he was done, we were both kind of bummed as we agreed we should have gone shorter in the back, but we didn't have any more time. No worries though since Bao invited me back and gave me the perfect angled lob. I LOVE it. I appreciate that he didn't just kick me out after the first cut with "you got what you asked for!" and send me on my way. He really took the time to make it look perfect. I received a Groupon SMS about 50+% off a spa mani pedi yesterday! I called the phone number about 6 times so I could schedule my appointment and there was no answer nor answering machine. The salon is on my way home so I popped in. It was about 11AM and there were 4 people there, one at the front desk, one under a dryer and two eating at what I thought was a bar of sorts in the back which turned out to be the mani station. I inquired about availability at the front desk and was told I could've called, which I said I did. Through a quick, deductive process we discovered that the number on the Groupon was inaccurate. I met the owner, D'Lisa, and, since no one was there for services, I asked about a special that was advertised on a chalk board as well as any special services available. D'Lisa is the esthetician there so she gave me a lot of info about her specialty and I was very impressed. She was extremely knowledgeable about the products she uses and how they may affect my pregnancy. I knew these things about certain herbs and chemicals since I am really cognizant of what products could affect my baby, but I hadn't met a service professional who was equally as knowledgeable; so, I felt like I was in great hands. I asked if I could get squeezed in for a lip and brow wax, especially since it was going to be 50% off for my first visit. She was in the middle of letting her color sit so she said as long as I didn't mind her hair setting, she could get me in real quick. Perfect! The wax was a honey wax, so I learned, and it didn't hurt at all nor did plucking. I was very pleased. After working with the guy helping at the front desk (who seemed a bit unhappy this day), I was able to find a time for both my husband and I to get mani pedis the next day (which is today.) Later in the evening, I noticed my forehead was super-irritated, red and bumpy so that was a bummer. I highly doubt this was from the skills of D'Lisa but just due to my hormone-rampant skin. So I went back today for my Groupon deal sans hubbie who opted out of a fabulous nail and toe day. I arrived at 2PM and it wasn't busy. I was greeted by the same guy from yesterday who was in a much better mood today and very amicable. My manicurist was prepping her station and I asked if the tea that was out was iced. I was told it wasn't but that ice could be added. However, no one served me...I just got it myself. The girl was ready for me so she began and we sat in silence which was really awkward. Again, in the back, but this time at the pedi stations, there were two employees eating. The juxtaposition of food smells with nail smells wasn't the best on my (impregnated) olfactory senses. Silence, I asked a question, silence, I asked a question, is how the first half hour of my mani transpired. I just figured I would overload this quiet (or mean? Yet TBD) gal with questions (like, where did you work before this salon?) or personal BS (like, I just bought a cow pattern baby onesie & I am so excited about it) to make the experience more enjoyable, or at least tolerable. I began to think to myself, is everyone here but the owner and the girls eating always in a bad mood or just quiet? If you are in the right mood, the salon professional-to-client comaraderie is part of the luxury of going to the salon. As the mani went on she opened up and we had nice conversation. I wanted to add gel to my nail service and a mask to my toes which I wasn't able to do due to time. I do wish at the time I booked my appointment I was asked if any additional or special services were desired so that I could've booked more time. My nails look pretty good, and my toes look awesome! I did find it odd that I kept having to refill my tea myself being that I was there for 2.5 hours. After tip my grand total was $15 plus the $20 Groupon so I feel the services were worth the money. I am not sure I would pay the standard full price for the services though. The mani and pedi stations, albeit aesthetically impressive, were so uncomfortable. The pillows for your back get wedged in between the seat and the seat support, the "spa" was actually just a small tub of warm water (no bubbling), and the seat was actually a bench where three people could sit at a time. One phenomenal aspect of this salon is the art and decor. During my Mani Inquisition, I found out the owner is a huge supporter of local art. All throughout the salon there are pieces for sale. I wouldn't trust anyone else to do my extensions!! I knew I wanted hair extensions for my wedding but know absolutely nothing about them! As a friend, Lydia graciously offered advice about the different types and made suggestions based on my wants and needs...and at the end of the day, I couldn't see anyone else putting them in. She did such an awesome job, applying them based on how I wear my hair on a daily basis so that I couldn't see them or feel them...and she matched my hair color perfectly! they blended so well and looked so natural. SARAH. IS. AMAZING. My hair was destroyed by a salon in Tempe. I'm a brunette with pretty healthy hair that has been gradually getting blonder and blonder through ombré/balayage/highlights over the years. About three weeks ago, I went to to aforementioned salon with the intention of getting rid of my really brassy/orange blonde ends and extremely grown out dark base in favor or an ashy, rooty blonde. Needless to say, I was not pleased when I came out with bright orange blonde and a sever line of demarcation three inches away from my part. The hairstylist said I needed to wait 8 whole weeks to get the second treatment, but at week 3 I could no longer handle the aversion to photos and constant pony tails. I found Salon D'Shayn on yelp and decided to get a second opinion that day after work. They had amazing reviews and were super close to where I work downtown. After meeting with Sarah (God bless her), she fit me in THAT SATURDAY to correct my hair, even though that was supposed to be her day off. I was beyond excited to have fixed hair by Halloween. On Saturday I sat in Sarah's chair for 3.5 hours to correct the mess of tones/streaks/roots that was my hair. I came out of it absolutely amazed with the glowing, bright, melted balayage with baby lights that I came away with. If I could give this place less than one star I would. I went in on Friday (10/16/20) and got my hair dyed by Gracie. I got my hair colored blue which I paid $310 dollars for. Everything went fine the day that I went and I loved the color except for the purple/re spot that she left on the back of my head! Then 2 days after my salon visit I took my first shower where the dye then ran out all over the place turning my whole tub blue along with my whole ENTIRE body. I have had my hair dyed exotic colors at salon many times before and this is not at all normal. We went to the salon the next day where there was no manager on duty. Luckily the receptionist that has been working there for 2 days was polite because everyone else trying to help us was insanely rude! We left and then my stylist, Gracie, FINALLY got a hold of me. She refused to do anything for me. No refund. Nothing. Finally after having to argue back and forth with her she decided giving me a hundred back would do. I then told her I had not received the hundred back yet and that I wanted the rest of my money back. She replied rudely, "the receipt reads "pending"..." She finally agreed to give me 200 back which I was happy with until today when I took my second shower, absolutely ice cold. The dye still ran all over the place and now MY ENTIRE FACE IS BLUE ALONG WITH THE REST OF MY BODY. This is absolutely unacceptable. On top of that we have been trying to get ahold of the owner of the salon and she hasn't contacted us still since the monday that we called. I am super disappointed and will never go back! read more

To walk in to a salon and have 2 people refuse to cut your hair because they're supposedly "booked" or should have "been gone" and they're open till 7pm and then you make an appointment and then the person who is supposed to cut your hair the next day right in front of you tells the lady "she's booked" and then you receive a phone call back that there's something wrong with the system, then try to reassure me that everyone at the salon is capable of cutting hair, no there was nothing wrong with the system because I received 2 appointments in my email. sounds like a lack of diversity at this place, no you will not be cutting my hair. Either this is very bad customer service or a we still got a problem and its the year 2019. First time at D'Lisa's new salon and I must say I was impressed with both the building and service. Simple yet effective decorating, a friendly face when I walk in the door that always asks if I want something to drink. As a man walking into a 'salon' it is almost intimidating. Unfamiliar smells, and women are at their most vulnerable, sporting aluminum foil in their hair pecking away at smart phones like it's there jobs. It is almost like there is no boys aloud type of feeling. I did not get that vibe at D'Lisa's salon. The atmosphere is fresh, and artsy yes still comfortable. There is always refreshments, and I just got one of the better hair cuts of my life! Definitely Five star worthy. Let me preface this by saying, I only go for waxing. Lisa is AWESOME. I came to her after trying out waxing for the first time at a chain wax center and she was sooo much better. They always keep the facility clean, great customer service, and a very nice staff. Upon arriving you get offered a beverage but I stopped accepting because I always leave it behind, I sit maybe like 2 minutes at most or walk right through, ahh the beauty of an appt and a business that keeps it. I was afraid of waxing and my first experience was very painful. I came to Lisa after finding a discount in an ad and she honored it. Waxing with her was SO easy and much more tolerable. I've been going to Salon D'Shayn exclusively for almost 3 years. I went to the Phoenix location before they moved, but I plan to stay with them. The salon in Phoenix was trendy and clean and always stocked with snacks, water, coffee, etc. I've seen a few stylists but I've been very loyal to Sarah Henize over the last couple years because she is the BEST hair stylist I've ever had. She listens to what I'm looking for and makes expert recommendations. She's a perfectionist and sets realistic expectations. I've adored every single cut and color I've gotten. I never want to go to anyone else. It's worth the drive and the price (which is reasonable for the quality) because I know I'll love my hair when I leave. Sarah is very accommodating and provides great service. She's also great to talk to and let's you be quiet if you're not feeling chatty. So glad I found this salon!
