This is the most amazing salon I've ever been to. And there's only a good handful I've been to. Salon Edda truly makes you feel like a princess and how they treat their clients is AMAZING. I walked in and was immediately greeted and took mine and my friend's jacket and offered a drink. Blue was truly a saint. She was the best stylist ever. Cut my hair to PERFECTION!!! She's a great conversationalist as well And luckily enough my friend Maxx got lucky and got a free blow out (I don't know if this is all the time, so don't bring a friend expecting them to get something for free!). Groupon: $22 for signature manicure/pedicure This spot recently opened so I figured I would check it out. I have been getting nails done a looonnnggg time. I have been to the strip mall joints and the PENINSULA (that was a gift), so I get around. As far as I am concerned, a nail salon is only as good as the technicians. The best tech I ever encounted was at a strip mall years ago, it closed, and I have been trying to find someone like her ever since. Now, back to the review.... Salon: beautiful, comfortable, accessible Tech: fantastic massage, he (Mike) did my feet, legs, arms, shoulders and neck (the massage was worth $22 alone) Pedicure: he used about 4 or 5 different lotions, creams, exfoliants on me...I kinda lost track, but I'm sure there is no dead skin on my body from the knees down. Manicure: He really did an excellent job on shaping the nails. He didn't over-trim the cuticles. Applying the nail polish was his only short coming...not bad, but not great either. I like techs that dip a paint brush in remover to clean up the polish, he didn't do that. So the polish looks a little sloppy when you look close. For $22 the service was a steal. For $40, I might try a different tech. I was not put in the computer or given disposable items. I also didn't receive any info about loyalty program, maybe because of the Groupon, who knows. ( I am African-American, but I hate to use the race card). Which is why they only get 3 stars from me. Whether the service is free or full price, everyone should be treated the same. Just a note... for all you morons who insist on having LONG conversations on your cell phones while getting services....PLEASE STOP. If you can sit through a movie without talking on the phone, you can sit through a nail service without letting everyone know how 'Tommy' screwed you over the night before. read more

I went here after buying a groupon! I got the mani/pedi for $22. They were pretty empty but they took really good care of my friend and me. We were in there for about 2.5 hours. The music was very relaxing and the people that waited on us were very good. We felt welcomed and got to watch a movie while we were getting massaged by the chairs. Also, the atmosphere is fantastic. So if you are tired of "regular" or "chop shops" this is the place for you. It is higher price but not outrageous, so be prepared...and it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. I was gone from Feb 23-May 12th and was in 4 states: NY, VA, D.C. and Maryland and waited to get back home to get my nails and brows done! I followed my nail person, "K" from her last salon here and will never leave. This is a salon and spa, not a nail shop: hot tea, water, soothing music, low volume conversations, spa smell (lovely and fresh). It is extremely clean, the chairs are so plush and the services top notch: get the milk pedicure and the gel polish-better than fake nails and worth every penny, I promise. They are always busy, so make an appointment; if you don't be prepared to be turned away or wait. The prices are right at the counter when you walk in so you won't be surprised. If something is wrong, speak up: they are more than happy to fix it and make sure you leave happy. This is not for cheap or ghetto: don't try to get stuff for free, cause a scene, or threaten to leave a bad review b/c you don't get your way. Don't embarrass yourself or us customers. I went in to see Carly, and I was very disappointed with my service. The previous stylist I went to see had moved to a new salon so the owner recommended I try her. First of all, her cutting skills were amateur and she had an attitude the entire time. She seemed like she didn't care while doing my hair, and was sloppy. I asked for her to put a lot of mousse in my hair and she barely put any. When combing out my hair she used a spiked comb, not even made for curly hair, and it hurt a lot. When blowing out my hair she quickly diffused my hair and was shoving my hair into the diffuser, which made my hair frizzy. She left my hair damp underneath, cause she was too lazy to finish. Lastly, it took her approximately 5 minutes to cut all my hair, way too quick if you ask me. I won't be coming back and don't recommend anyone paying level 3 prices for her. read more

I had been going to this salon for over 10 years, and even went back on a few occassions after moving to New York. I still haven't found a salon (or individual stylist) as talented, hospitable, or reliable anywhere else. If I could afford flying back just to get my hair done with Scott, I would. Cut and custom-mixed highlights are always fantastic, and grow out well if you can't come back as often as you'd like. But the shampoo massages will definitely make you want to want to go every week! I hate to do it but this is the worst mani/pedi I've ever gotten. Even the groupon rate didn't make it worth it. The actual salon is really nice and the lady behind the front desk was friendly both in person and over the phone, but the actual mani/pedis were horrendous. My best friend ended up with toenails that were angled due to the very poor cutting of the technician. Mine are already chipping and the big toe is smudged. The imperfections on mine were less obvious because I picked a light color. Our fingernails were even worse, if that's possible. The technician very obviously ran her hand across one of my nails and smudged it and didn't react until I brought it to her attention. That's kind of how the whole experience went - my friend and I would stare at our nails and make comments about how horrible they looked and the technicians would sit without any reaction. My cuticles are jagged. The nail polish near my cuticles is uneven and cakey, kind of like my 6 year old cousin could have done a better job applying the polish. I got this mani/pedi on Friday night so that my nails could look perfect for a Saturday wedding. At 6:30 am on Saturday, 2 minutes into my shower, the nail polish on my index finger started to peel back. I compared with my friend on Sunday night an we both already had huge chips. Go to this place if you're in it for the halfway decent neck massage they give you. But that's about it. If only one of us had ended up with poor services, I'd consider giving this place another go. But both of us? Definitely not worth revisiting. read more

I cut a cut and balayage done by Erin and I couldn't be happier with the results. Erin took the time to really figure out what I was looking forward and checked in to make sure I liked the look of it. The balayage looks amazing and just like what I wanted. During the cut, she was so in tune to what I wanted- I had been wanting a shorter cut and when it wasn't quite as short as I would've liked, she could tell and asked me if I wanted to go shorter. I can't tell you how relieved I was to have a stylist that really understood what I was looking for. And I received a lovely handwritten thank-you note a couple weeks after my appointment. I've been getting my hair cut with Edda now for years, and that's saying a lot since I would typically travel up to 45 minutes just to get to her at her old salon. I'm absolutely thrilled she is in Chicago and conveniently located and close by because her legendary scalp massages, neck rubs and warm personality are just minutes away. I WAS a fan when this business was Natural Elements and loved my stylist (who has since left), but unfortunately when the ownership changed, the atmosphere, and therefore my experience, changed. What was an intimate and friendly vibe is now gone, and the business feels like it's all about the owner (hence the new name, Salon "Edda") and trying to be "something" it's not. A few months ago the owner hosted a private party in the salon while customers were still there. The rest of the staff was embarrassed and apologetic, as they had to navigate through women drinking champagne. On other occasions, the owner went home when the salon short-staffed without informing the stylists, leaving the staff scrambling to cover all of the customers' needs. If you want to go to a salon where clients come second, go to Salon Edda! read more

The whole experience at salon Edda is ten stars. From booking the appointment to leaving the salon, Edda makes sure you have the best experience. My recent appointment was cancelled a few times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each time I needed to be rescheduled the salon reached out to me ahead of time to rebook. They asked how I was doing during the pandemic and showed that they care about their clients as people too - not just for business. Working in a service industry myself, it is clearly evident that the whole staff is under incredible leadership and team culture. But that's not the best part, just wait until you book with Martha. You'll get the best balayage in the city. My Polish frizzy hair stays silky for 2-3 months, and transforms me into someone who can *usually* straighten their hair in the summer. I can wear my hair straight again in a professional office because of the high quality product/toner she uses. Martha's skills with the coloring is hard to find. She does better than the best pins on your Pinterest board - in fact she will look at them with you to help you learn and understand what would look best for your hair type. I get compliments all the time on my hair. Martha will take her time to make your hair look perfect. She is an artist. Martha does my sisters hair and some of my closest friends hair too - they all have different hair types and she is able to give them all the results they are looking for. I love this nail spa. It always feels like a nice, relaxing experience every time I go. Joanne, the owner, is the sweetest and her staff is extremely attentive and kind. The last time I went I complained of having sore feet (thank you, pregnancy) and Joanne spent so much extra time on them. I was in heaven!! I love the cleanliness of the space, the decor, how they always have a sappy Netflix movie playing that I probably would never choose to watch, but eventually get hooked on. The service and ease to get an appointment or walk-in is the best I've come to know in my neighborhood. My sister, who visits from Indiana, even loves coming here whenever she's in town. One of the best mani-pedi's ive received for the price - $40 (on mon/Tues they have a deal of $35 for a mani-pedi). I've gotten mani-pedi's at highly rated/high class salons and the quality of the mani-pedi I got at this little lincoln park nail salon was just as good! Been here twice now -- Very clean salon, very friendly workers, TV to watch while they do their work, the massage chairs during the pedicures are amazing, plus its BYOB! They do a GREAT job, they apply the 1st layer of color, then a top coat layer, then the final layer of color, and the final layer of top coat. Putting in that additional later of top coat reduces the risk of chipping and increases the longevity of the manicure --this is the only salon I've been to that has done this. Its been 4 days already and not a single nail of mine has chipped even the slightest....that NEVER happens, I'm even someone who picks at my nails all of the time so its a miracle my nails are still in top shape. PLUS, they give this great neck and back massage before completing your nails. The workers here care for you, when I thought my nails had dried enough I got up and she came over and asked to check my nails and asked that if I have the time I should stay longer and let them dry a few more minutes. I cant remember the last time I was at a nail salon that cared so much as to do everything they could to ensure the quality of my manicure! This is definitely my new favorite place to get my nails done in Chicago, i will keep coming back! Natural Elements is a fantastic salon. It is close to the DePaul campus and the former Grant Hospital by Webster and Lincoln. The salon is very modern and relaxing. The night I went they were offering free red wine! While getting a cut and color, I was observing the clientle - all of the clientle looked very happy and looked excellent walking out of the salon. The stylists are very friendly here and I believe that there are 2 Master Colorists on staff which is very hard to find. I had my cut and color done by Alexis. She is excellent at doing highlights. My highlights look very subtle and natural with the color choices she suggested. I got compliments for weeks after she did my hair. She also suggested Davines (http://www.davines.com/home.html) products for my thick, semi-wavy long hair - Nou Nou Shampoo and Love Conditioner. They are quite possibly the best shampoo and conditioner I've ever used for my hair - it is now shiny and not frizzy. Those will run you about $14 - $18 each. The shampoo lady is everything you've heard about - you get a great scalp massage while she washes your hair. Please tip her! This place is pricey, that is my personal drawback. This is why I give the place 4 stars. For a cut and color (with highlights), I paid close to $200 and that is not including tip. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for so it was definitely worth it. Once you find a stylist that meets your cut and color needs, the price is of no option for the most part (unless it is really through the roof). I am not used to paying this much for a cut and color however; on average I've paid less than $150. The thing you have to consider are that some of the stylists are certified colorists so you are getting what you pay for. Parking is a pain around here so I suggest going during the daytime. I believe that you also have the option to park at a nearby parking lot for a discounted rate but you should inquire about that. This place is worth trying out; just looking at the folks walking out of here. They look fantastic. read more

This is nice nail salon and everyone is friendly and knowledgable. I called for a same day appointment on a Sunday and they were able to see me right away. I received a mani and pedi and 20 min massage. The pedi was fantastic and they have comfy massage chairs that you can control. The mani was also good but they moved me the nail station & the same woman did my mani and pedi so it took longer than what I am use to when they double up and do them at the same time. They had a movie playing with subtitles which was a nice. The 20 minute massage was just OK but overall solid nail spa. I even forgot my wallet and had to run back to my apt and grab it and the woman in charge was very kind and easy going about it. I tipped well and will definitely be back. read more

Urban oasis! I adore this place. Joanne, the owner, is just lovely as is all the staff. It is a clean and simple but stunning decor and the attention to detail shows. Really nice ambiance. Plus, I get to watch TV and read magazines when I'm here, indulgences I never make time for outside of these visits. Great salon to bring a friend or your mom for a spa day. I do no chip manis, pedicures, and eyebrow waxing here. Love the green massage chairs! I'm a brunette with long thick hair and had never colored my hair before. I googled "best colorists in chicago" and voila! I found Alexis at Natural Elements. Since it was my first time coloring my hair, I wanted to make sure I was going to someone who was great. I found out that all the colorists at Natural Elements are certified (not common among other salons). Alexis was smart, gave good advice and really listened to what i wanted. and she was sooooooo good at it too! I wanted to do an ombre but didnt want it to be too drastic or look like someone dipped the ends of my hair. She gave me the most beautiful caramel and peanut butter shades and blended it so nicely with my natural hair color. I have gotten endless compliments about my hair and I honestly have yet to see an ombre that im envious of. I will most definitely go back!!!! Alexis is AMAZING at what she does! Not only that, the salon itself has a really cool vibe. This salon completely ruined my hair color. I was wearing a very natural balayage that grew for 7 months so I was almost losing my blonde. I made it clear to the stylist that I don't like fake blonde looks (orange, yellow or white). I told him I wanted something natural with not too much contrast with my roots so that I could let it grow for another 7 months without having to get a touch up. He seemed to understand what I requested and was very nice and polite during the process. However, he had to wash my hair in 4 sections because it got the color faster than he expected and suddenly everything became a mess. Now my hair is orange on the top, white on the lower layers and what's even more disastrous is in some parts of my hair he only painted the top, so I have some orange-yellow roots and then my natural brown in the bottom. I basically look like a tiger. Not to mention the fact that now you can clearly see the contrast of my roots with the orange and it looks like I need to get my hair done again. I paid $200 for this and later on I realized they charged me for a toner, which I didn't even know I was being applied. Such a bad experience here. The staff is really nice but if you want to get a natural blonde this is not the place. read more

I have been going to this salon for years and would never go anywhere else. I go to Kris because my mom has actually had her hair cut by her since she was in her 20s. I grew up going to this salon and hoping one day when I was old enough, I could have my hair done here as well. The staff is kind, considerate and friendly. Kris does my ombre so well I get compliments on it constantly. She's a wonderful person and it feels more like hanging out with a friend and then ending up with a beautiful blowout than even just getting your haircut. She also helped me through a hard phase where I insisted on bangs and immediately regretted it. I cannot recommend this salon more.
