Beautiful, modern, spacious salon in downtown LA. Per the name; it's on 11th Street. It's in walking distance from my job so I decided to get an appointment today. I had walked by many times and am so glad I finally came in today. Silvia gave me a great haircut. I came in feeling like my hair lost all it's shape. I had a few ideas and she gave me great advice. My fine hair feels so much healthier and full of body. She also gave me helpful advice on products to use and is overall a cool person to talk to. As the first salon to ever cut my hair in Southern California, I would say they did a fabulous job! Normally, I would wait to get my hair cut back at home since I'm not too familiar with good salons down here & was always afraid of taking chances. One of the reasons why I chose this salon was b/c it was so close to work & the reviews were great. After passing by the salon everyday, I finally made my appointment for a cut, color, & partial highlights w/ Jessica. I was might have been semi late to my appointment due the fact that I'm blind & couldn't find the Prestige Parking Lot... but I called in to let them know & they were fine w/ it. They offered me something to drink - why not after a long day of work?! Had my two glasses of white wine during my stay. Jessica is honest & good at listening to what her client wants & does a good job at delivering the final product. I'm normally not the talkative type (must have been the wine), but I felt comfortable talking to her & the other girl that was helping out w/ my highlights. In the end, once my hair had been blown out & polished, I almost didn't recognize myself. The way she had cut my layers & finished my hair, I've never seen it shine & feel so soft & smooth. My highlights blended in well with my natural hair color - which was something I had said in our consultation. Silvia is the best! I moved out here 2 years ago and have had such a hard time finding a good hair salon. I recently had a very bad experience with a dye job somewhere else and my natural hair was left damaged and I wasn't happy with it at all. I wanted to cut my hair so it could feel better and get on the road to recovery lol and then I found Salon Eleven. I made an appointment with Silvia and after seeing her, I will not being going anywhere else and have finally found my salon! Not only was she nice, she is amazing at what she does and made such great conversation the whole time I was with her. She managed to cut out a lot of my damaged hair but what was so amazing was that she left my hair almost the same length! She definitely knows what she is doing. Katie has been job hunting for over a month with very little success. Katie went into Salon Eleven yesterday and had her hair re-colored. Later that night, while eating at a restaurant, she was offered a job. Coincidence? I think not. So, it's finally happened! Downtown LA at long last has a high-style Salon to call its own, and boy, does it look GOOD. As other reviewers have all echoed, the salon has a hip yet inviting atmosphere. I believe the art is actually on regular rotation with local artists being able to showcase their stuff, unless I've been horrendously misinformed. Everyone working here is friendly and accommodating. And they're good-looking. That's not a combination you tend to see much of around here. I took my two hours in the chair with John and the change was akin to the 2nd coming of Christ [see photo]. Seriously, I don't know what witchcraft this man is practicing but he needs to be burned for it because I have never had a better cut and color right off the chair. "Are you more excited about the color or the cut?", asks Jared. At the time, I was excited about the color. When I walked out of the salon, I was excited about the color and cut. Almost a week later, I'm still as excited about both as I was that day. Salon Eleven has everything that I was looking for in a salon: a convenient location, friendly people and - most importantly - amazing results. I have to admit, after leaving Salon Eleven, I starting flipping my hair while walking down the street and checking myself out in car windows and neighboring store fronts...I'm sorry, I know...but I've never felt that hot after getting my hair done. It was beyond what I had expected. I came in for a color and a cut with Jared, who is super nice and willing to give tons of input. You get a lot of dynamic feedback - you give input, he gives input, you respond - that's probably why you look so good at the end of it all. You just have to trust that he knows what he's doing...I was a little apprehensive when I saw him cutting away (who isn't when they see that first cut?), but by the time he was done blowdrying, I had seen the inspiration. Beyond my hair and Jared's awesomeness, the salon's super chic. It's in Downtown LA, within walking distance of LA Live, and has the same hip LA vibe to it. All of my comedically brilliant fellow Yelpers know the scene in This Is Spinal Tap with the amp that could be turned up to 11 and not just up to 10. Well, that's the kind of ampage I'm talking about. Personally, I see most experiences in life much like Rob Reiner probably sees them: as though I'm in a mockumentary. That is, there are few moments in my day to day where people aren't either taking themselves too seriously or when I'm unable to turn a situation in my imagination into what would make a great mockumentary scene. So when I emailed Salon 11 a couple weeks before my old Hollywood glamour-themed firm formal with a picture of Rita Hayworth and asked if they could do my hair and makeup like her, my mockumentary spa experience began. I couldn't have had a more enjoyable spa experience I think. There were young professionals, entertainment-folk of all kind, relaxing and being fed wine to their heart's content. The hospitality, music and décor tastefully crossed lines between patrons' native cities (doubtfully LA), generation and zip code. My stylist and makeup artist, John, couldn't be described any way other than fabulous. He even suggested a better era hair style than I was able to come up (Veronica Lake - see pics for Salon 11) with and adapted the era makeup to present day. I sent my boyfriend to John and he came back even cuter... John made my perfect ten an eleven! Everyone was professional, friendly, and surprisingly down to earth. The location is easy with free parking and safer-feeling than much of downtown. The salon also hosts learning events and it's walls are home to some pretty inspiring local artists' work. I've been coming to this salon for the past 6 years, and figured it's high time I leave them the glowing review they deserve. I first came to Salon Eleven for a relaxer and haircut with the owner Jared. Most salons won't do relaxers without an in person consultation, and even then it has to be a future appt to do it. I've had relaxers done since I was 9, I know the process and how it goes...but most salons don't do relaxers regularly so they hesitate until they can see the texture of your hair. Even then they charge a crazy amount of money for it, with lots of upcharges for things like hair length. But not Jared! He knows and understands the process well, and I was able to easily schedule for a relaxer. Everything went great and all of the staff were SO nice... so I've kept coming. Even now that I live in Santa Monica I still drive downtown solely for Salon Eleven. Flash forward, and I booked Salon Eleven for my bridal hair and makeup. Since my wedding was on a Sunday (a day the salon is typically closed), they graciously opened the place for my bridal party. It was great to get ready in a place that I knew well with stylists that I knew were amazing. Christina did a great job with my hair, and Silvia was amazing with my makeup. Silvia is also the manager, and keeps the whole place running so smoothly. I've also had a great experience with Jen. I first met her when Jared when her mentor, and now she sees clients alone. I've been living in SoCal for the past 9 years now and had tried different salons that never seemed to really work out. It wasn't until Salon Eleven and meeting Silvia that I could finally say that this is the BEST place to go to! Silvia cares about her clients and talks with you before starting your haircut and/or color. You can show her styles and colors you like and she will give you an honest opinion. I've never tried any other hairstylists at the salon, but I'm sure all the other stylists are awesome. The salon has a small community feel to it. Seems like anyone who drops in, all the stylists know personally. The first time I was at the salon, a local owner dropped by with a bag of bread. The salon also offers beverages and snacks to you while you're there. I think as a first time customer - you get a discount. Not sure how much it is, but you can ask. Lying in Wait! I was recently contacted by the Salon's Owner Jared and was told that the Stylist (John) is no longer there. All Points Bulletin...All Units be on the lookout for a male stylist with bushy ass Flock of Seagulls hair, roaming the greater Los Angeles Area! The exact amount that I was charged was $368.23. Fuck! I hope that included tip or that would hit the $400 mark! Jared, that is 2 dugout club seats for the Dodgers and Yankee game....I am just saying! I have informed my wife and she may or may not come back. The way I see it, Its a "Sunk Cost"! For you Paris Hilton's out there who didn't pass accounting, its monies that have been spent and can never be recouped! Never! So, I will leave the Decision up to my wife and see what she wants to do. She is not due for another cut and color, but i do my best to encourage her to give Salon 11 another shot. When ever I go to a salon it is the walk of shame because by the time I go to the salon my hair is in BAD shape and after my zombie teased hair on Halloween it was really bad not to mention my grocery store hair color from the last time it was colored. It's a sad sight. So last night I came to see Jared and I told him my story which he was nice but I know he was thinking what the hell have you been doing to your hair? I was offered a drink which I eagerly accepted. They have an espresso machine, water and vino. 3 hours later Jared managed to transform my homeless woman hair to more stylish do. No longer will people be dropping coins in my coffee cup. :) Thanks Jared for staying late and helping me out and I didn't make it to the Clippers game but I finished watching it at home...they won...oh yeah you're a Laker fan. :) Oh...his assistant and the receptionist were super sweet too. read more

I thought long and hard if I should review this place or not , so here I am. I work about 2 blocks away from this location so who can beat the convenience. I needed a touch up and a trim and lately I havent had the time to go out to my regular location since it is a long drive away. So I decided to stop by a few weeks ago into Salon Eleven to make an appointment. I was directed to the receptionist Sylvia to make the appointment. I was asked what day and time and after that was all said, she asked me for my credit card information in order to book the appointment. I was taken back because never have I been asked to give my credit card information in order to book an appointment. I didn't have it with me so she said it would not be booked until I gave it to her and she also said if I missed the appointment, I would be charged a fee. She then finished the conversation that I was looking at about $160 to start for a partial. I took a menu price list before leaving and Sylvia handed me her business card and asked me to call her and give her that credit card information over the phone. First off, I didn't feel comfortable giving anyone my credit card information, especially over the phone. I then referred to the price list and it stated that partial started at $95 instead of the $160 she stated to me. In final, I looked at the fine print on the bottom of the price list and states "All Chemical and Special Occasion reservations must be made with a valid credit card..." I was making an appointment for hair color service and Sylvia was aware of that. I dont know how she could of mistaken that for Chemical Service which would be Brazilian Blowouts, perms, ect. as stated on their price list. It will never cross my mind to visit this location again. read more

OMG. I wanted to say something good and I really wanted to like this place, but after what happened yesterday, I have got to give this place only one star. I saw John for a hair cut a week ago which went really well. After the hair cut and talking with him, I went back to get my brown hair dyed auburn. I ended up with roots that were (no bullshit) pink and the bottom was a dark, red purple-y hue. The corrective colorist said in the 22 years since she has been correcting color she has never seen anything like it. When I asked John if the roots look too bright or why it wasn't auburn. He said that I should live with it for a few days and come back to have it corrected. It was so bad I was trying to find words to explain the problems but couldn't. The person who did the correction (see my review of Joanne Harris) just kept saying "Oh God?! How the hell did he even do this?!" It wasn't an easy correction. Like I said, to be fair, he offered to correct it. But it was troubling that he would even think that his results were arguably competent. Plus, what idiot goes back to the person who did that kind of shoddy work for a correction? After a $185 dollar bill, I ended up spending more than double that to have it corrected. John's cut was good and the salon had a nice vibe, but if you are considering a color, I'd go elsewhere. read more

I love this place. I friggin love this place. And I love Jessica. - It's in my building, so I walk down and voila. - Jessica is a maestro with my hair. She listens to what I want and accomplishes it, and also then shows me exactly how to style it and in what order in the morning. Since I'm a dude, this helps tons. Also she listens to my girl problems and laughs at my lame jokes at appropriate times. She also "gets" what I mean when I use layman terms to describe the effect I'm going for with my hair. One time, I was in a real rush and she sped the entire process up and still managed a great job. She's a doll, I love her. - They give you wine. I always get drunk here. I usually have 3-4 glasses. I came to Salon Eleven as a first time customer yesterday, after reading mostly positive reviews about it on Yelp. I didn't have quite the experience I came in for, but the salon still gets 4 stars (and a high recommendation) from me! Here's why: I called the salon looking for ombre color, and the lovely receptionist was able to book me an appointment on the same day -- an unexpected surprise. Maeven was my stylist. She was absolutely lovely -- professional, courteous, and so sweet! She helped me choose out the three reddish-brown shades that would best complement my skin tone. We decided to go with a more auburn color on top, a bit more red in the middle, and a brighter red on the bottom. The whole procedure only took about an hour and a half. I opted not to do a blow-dry at the salon, because I didn't want to pay extra when I could style my hair at home myself. Maeven blow dried a small section in the very front, though, and I loved what I saw. However, I couldn't wait to see how the entire ombre turned out. About an hour later, after air-drying my new 'do in the car, it became clear to me that I had not, in fact, received the ombre I had paid for. What I saw was all-over color. Don't get me wrong -- I adore my hair. The color is absolutely gorgeous, my hair is shiny and healthy, and I am getting compliments left and right. But I couldn't make peace with paying for a service I hadn't received. So I did something I've never done before: I went back to the salon to speak to the owner. Let me tell y'all something: Jared is the pinnacle of professionalism. He sat me down, looked at my hair in the light, and agreed that there was none of the color contrast or gradient that constitutes ombre color. I had suggested that I pay for all-over color, and that I be refunded the difference in price between ombre and all-over color. Jared agreed with me, and we worked out the payment issue in about ten minutes. Easy and painless! Despite not getting what I initially paid for, I would come back here again -- and that's saying a lot about a first-time customer to a salon! read more

This place is terrible, time and time again. And I am not one to give bad reviews because I know how hard a business is to maintain and run. However, sometimes it is necessary. First my friend went. They messed up her highlights. She went back again to get it fixed. They messed it up again. I went as well. They messed up the cut. Then I tried them one last time with a different girl. I trusted that she knew what she was doing and later found out that she put in a semi perm, bleached my hair, and cut it incorrectly. Now I have to fully grow out my hair so that new, healthy growth can replace what she turned into a mess. And when I called to complain I didn't get a sorry. The receptionist only said she is no longer with us and that she doesn't have her contact info. This place is terrible. read more

I LOVE this salon. For years, I have bounced from hair stylist to hair stylist. I have tales of frightening hair cuts and of hair stylists that are too cocky for their and their customers' own good. But Salon Eleven cured my fear of hair cuts and hair stylists. Now, I will not let anyone but Jessica Blair touch my hair. I will drive from Orange County just to see her because she is truly some sort of hair stylist goddess. Every time I get up off her chair after a hair cut, I look and feel more beautiful than ever before. As soon as I head back to my college bubble at UC Irvine, I am showered with compliments from all around me. Never have I been disappointed after a hair cut from Jessica. Not to mention, I love the atmosphere of the salon. Drinking unlimited complimentary tea/wine/coffee/beer while each client chats it up with their stylist (Jessica is a great conversationalist as well), being pampered and spoiled, and having someone tend to any of your current needs - like needing to know what song is playing (did I mention they play good music?), having to put extra money in my parking space (did I mention they pay for your parking and you can park in the lot a block down for free if you would like to?), etc. - is my idea of a good day at the hair salon. Be sure to get their deep conditioning treatment. It works WONDERS. My hair was softer and shinier than ever before afterward.. so worth it! read more

I live walking distance from this salon and I love it! I have gotten my nails done here multiple times and the girls always do a fantastic job! Pedicures are heavenly as well! I just made an appointment for a dye job on my hair and I know they will do a great job. I don't think I can go to any other salon any more.... I am so spoiled here. Something seems to be awry with this place now. I should have known it when their website changed. I called several times yesterday and no one would pick up the phone so I decided to do the email option. I'd done that in the past and they were always so quick to email or call right back. I didn't get a message until the next day...perhaps it was because I requested an appointment with John, who no longer works there. The email was very blah: "Thank you for emailing us. Unfortunately John is no longer with the company. Please let me know if you would like me to book with any other stylists at or Salon. Thank you and have a great day." Coming from a business background, they really should have offered an appointment time for the day I requested and mentioned perhaps a different stylist that I would like. It was uncharacteristic of the interactions I'd had with them in the past and it was really off-putting. So I am moving on... Also, to whomever wrote that email, the word is "our". CUSTOMER SERVICE begins with interactions BEFORE going into the salon, namely when making the appt. So I made an appt for another salon in DTLA... My number one place to do my hair! I am very picky when it comes to hair salons, but this place is absolutely awesome! My hair stylist is Jessica and she is absolutely the best! She helped me to finally find my own style and be comfortable in my own skin (and hair ;)). The service is really good, and their product line is great, too, and if you buy some hair spray or some other thing and it stops working - they will replace it with a new one at absolutely no charge. Got my hair cut here a couple months ago and was super happy with it. The second time back I decided to get my hair dyed blonde for the first time in my life. Was super happy with how it turned out as well. Going back for 3rd visit this week. Called to make appt and found out the guy who cut and colored my hair is gone. He was really good but I am confident everybody there is really good. Great location. It's in my favorite part of DTLA. It's close to where I live. And everyone I met there are really nice. I came to Salon Eleven very recently because I followed my stylist, Christina, here from another salon. I guess this is a good time to review both Christina and Salon Eleven. Well as for Christina, her haircuts are awesome! Why else would I follow her over right?! DUH! I can only speak for her men's cuts cuz well I'm not a woman! Although I've seen her work on women before my appointments and they look great and seem satisfied too. Christina is friendly, welcoming, and is very good at men's cuts. I get a 1/2 on the sides, short/medium length on top with an oh so stylish comb over. She really knows what's she doing with clippers, fading, and the scissors. She gets it right every time. I always leave looking and feeling a few years younger (in a good way). She usually starts by cutting the sides, then shampoo/conditioner/rinse, then finishes up the top, a neck shave with a blade, then styling with product. Keep them great cuts coming Christina! As for Salon Eleven, it's also very nice. It's in a cleaner part of DTLA. Interpret that however you'd like! lol. The salon is modern, upscale, clean, and everyone was really nice. Receptionist was cool. Met the owner and he was cool as well. And are you ready for this?? One of my favorite things about a nice salon...they give you wine! I recently moved to LA from NY/NJ about 1 month ago. I had a hard time finding someone that would do as good of a job as my hairstylist in Brooklyn. I contacted a friend who referred me to Salon Eleven. When I called to make an appt I had no idea what to expect. However, I had the pleasure of speaking to Zorida and she was an absolute charm. We talked about hair for about 30 mins and from there on out I knew my experience was going to be amazing!! The day of my appt I was a nervous wreck because I never had a male hairstylist before. Well I must say that Jared is very easy on the eyes which made my experience 10x better ;-) I was very pleased from the time I walked in until the time I walked out. The staff was very professional and easy going. My hair is still fabulous 3 weeks later and everyone always stops me on the street!!! This review won't be nearly as convincing as it could be without the fabulous pictures of my new hair color that I have yet to take and post. But, take my word for it: my hair looks great. I went in this afternoon and three hours later, I emerged a new woman. Or, at least, the same woman with new hair. This wasn't three hours of boringness, either, this was three hours of having my hair pampered and paid close attention to. Jessica did it again. I asked for ombre hair and she colored my hair exactly how I wanted it! This girl can do no wrong.

so today after feeling depressed for a week of bad hair i made an appt to get my hair fixed. my hair was probably the worst type of hair you'll ever see! My top color was different from my bottom color and I probably looked like i stuck half my head in some dye and that was it. I know you should never say NEVER but in this case there is an exception. She is absolutely amazing! now I don't feel the least bit embarrassed about the way my hair looks. She thoroughly explained my hair dilemma and went straight to making my hair look healthier and 100x's better than when i walked in. point is: Jessica Blair = talented hair colorist and stylist staff is great and very accommodating prices- pricey but competitive if your looking for a place to get your hair done and want the best of the best come here! you won't regret it! read more

Come on down to the barren wasteland that is LA's South Park and you'll find a jewel of a salon. I work at the AT&T building, making this salon insanely convenient. But beyond that, for as many salons as I've been to in this city, this salon is the only one I've consistently come back to due to its exceptional customer service, nearly perfect hair cuts (my stylist is Veronica, who takes her time to texturize your hair into a masterpiece) and, perhaps most importantly (sorry Veronica) is the complementary wine/beer. For a functional alcoholic like me, it's heaven. But seriously just give this place a call. The service you'll receive from the receptionist is indicative of the accommodating, professional and charming atmosphere within the salon. If you find it to be anything other than that, I'll eat my hat. (Although I don't really need hats anymore, due to great hair... you know what I mean.) read more

I'm never going anywhere else. I've been going to Salon Eleven for about a year now, and have been so impressed with the quality of my cut that I visit every 3 weeks. I am quick to recommend the salon to friends, and am especially partial to my stylist, John Esparza. I had never before been committed to any single salon, but I am so thankful for John's expertise. Within two visits, he was able to discern how my hair grows and behaves, and to modify the cut accordingly. The result: My hair looks better than ever, and it's also very easy to style. John pays attention to detail, and has also made recommendations about additional ways I can style my hair. To make things even better, all the salon staff is friendly and welcoming. They remember my name, and they're always quick to prepare a coffee drink - perfect for a Saturday morning. read more

Very impressed with Salon Eleven! I was a little nervous trying out this place since I had been going to the same person for several years. Unfortunately for me, he moved really far away. I have very fine, straight hair and without much styling, Jared was able to give me some dimension and shape (usually you can't even tell my hair was cut). Jared is a great listener and gave me confidence in him. I showed him pictures, told him my concerns and we made a game plan before going in with the scissors. He really pays attention to detail and is a pleasure to chat with. I'll be coming back to get my hair colored soon! read more

I'm kind of bummed lately with Salon Eleven. They started out so well and did a terrific job on my hair when I was dark brown. Now that I've gone back to my natural blonde and have highlights things haven't been the same. When I first went to get highlights I was there for three and a half hours and came out looking very similar to when I went it. I thought we'd discussed more light blonde highlights with a few darker tones to compliment and got the opposite. I called to tell them how disappointed I was and they fit me in straight away to rectify the problem free of charge. I was happier, but even so, there wasn't much contrast in the colors used. We discussed making my blonde highlights 'pop' but I got more of an all-over bright blonde tone. Still, I didn't mind it and even liked it after a while. When I went back recently to get my roots done, I came out with wet hair because I didn't want a cut and wasn't going to pay for a blow dry when I was just going straight home. When I dried my hair at home I was horrified to see my dark roots still about three quarters of an inch to an inch in length on the crown of my head! And my hair feels a bit dried out because it seems that the entire hair shaft was re-painted and foiled. And I have what looks like a paintbrush mark on the side of my head when I put my hair up. I'm awarding three stars because they're all so lovely in the salon - but if this was my first time going, I'd have only given one or two :( read more

I finally had time to get a haircut. Iris R.'s review convinced me to try this place out. Jessica is amazing! She is very knowledgeable about hair and cares a lot about making you look great. I got a haircut and love it. She is also a huge "Lost" fan, for those who are looking for others to analyze the show. There is free parking in the lot across the street. They aim to please and have coffeee/tea/wine for your sipping pleasure. The hair wash includes a great head massage. 10% discount on your first visit (or first haircut); doublecheck that! If it was so great, why the four stars and not five you ask? Well, haircut still came out to about $68 (with tip) and you just can't beat the $35 haircuts in Koreatown. For the sake of budgeting my limited funds, I will switch back and forth but I love this place! You can also get a manicure or pedicure here too. I was looking for a salon in DTLA and I am so happy I found Salon Eleven! It is so easy to schedule an appointment and upon arrival the staff is so friendly. My appointments have always been in the morning so I've passed on the free beverages for fear of being labeled as a "Wino", but it's such an added bonus having that option. As an accountant, I lack all that is creative and expressive so my hair is my only real art form. Recently I decided to transform myself and chop it all off. John did a perfect job and I couldn't be any happier with the cut. I completely trust him with my hair and value his opinions! He is also a cool guy with no BS. The only con about a short haircut is that it requires an enormous amount of maintenance, which I cannot afford. But John, I promise I will be back! Lastly, they host cool classes (hair, makeup, ect.) and parties for their clients. I've never been because of my hectic work schedule, but I'm sure they are a good time! Jared turned my over-processed mousy hair into something fierce. I am super glam now. I love the blonde streaks he layered next to my darker natural hair color. My hair looks hip and edgy, but still professional---just like I asked him to make it. I found this salon via YELP, and I wanted to make sure I gave it a shout-out, because it it definitely one of the best salons in downtown. I've lived downtown for nearly 10 years, and I am so happy to have a place to go that's so close by. read more
