    Expert color by Heidi.

I had such a lovely hair appointment with Heidi Woo. I came in with some seriously burnt out hair (multiple rounds of balayage had left my super fine hair yellow and brittle). I wasn't sure what I needed (more balayage?!), but Heidi immediately suggested a combination of highlights and lowlights to bring back a healthy glow and restore a natural look to my hair. She expertly chose an ash-toned color combination, with a few warm accents, which worked perfectly for me. She then carefully cut off three inches of hair which were no longer serving me. The multi dimensional color and short, blunt cut have add volume and jujj back to my hair. I've gotten tons of compliments and feel much younger with my new do. Also: this is was my first time at Salon Gerard. There was no wait, the space was lovely, and all the stylists and staff were very professional. Overall a great experience.

One of my many cuts from Gerard, works both curly and straight :)

I've been coming to Salon Gerard for 3 years and am heartbroken to have to find a new stylist now after moving away! Gerard has always been so great with my hair, which can be tricky because of its natural curl. He is very attentive to the cuts he gives and my hair always looks great both straight and curly, whether day of the cut or months out. Love love LOVE this salon. Definitely saved me when I struggled to find a good stylist in DC.

Another fantastic cut and color with Gerard. I'm loving the blue/black and can't wait to see how it looks in the sun!

And back again for another fantastic cut and color! I told Gerard I wanted to try out a new color and a different cut and he delivered on both fronts! The color is amazing and has a great depth of color tones. The cut accents it fantastically and the experience over all was amazing! Can't wait to show it off!

    The final product.

I had a great experience yesterday at Salon Gerard. My 4th grade daughter wanted something "less boring" than her long ponytail, so I checked out Yelp and called a few places. We ended up here because: a) it's very reasonably priced - $20 for kids under 13 b) they had time available right away, and c) Gerard was so nice on the phone, even calling me back on his day off The setting is small, calm and quiet. Gerard spent an hour giving my daughter an awesome layered cut, and it only cost a couple of dollars more than going to a chain haircut place or a barber. Gerard is so nice and approachable, I'm sure everyone would get along with him. Definitely not scary or intimidating for kids or anyone else looking for a new place. As an added bonus, you can park for an hour under the Kennedy Warren for free ($6 for the 2nd hour) - turn into the driveway just a few feet west of the entrance to the zoo parking lot. I'm often disappointed by the service I get at local business compared to the prices I pay, so this was an amazingly positive experience from beginning to end. Next up will be my 12 year old son, who's now at the age to get a "style" versus a plain ol' barbershop buzz cut.

Gotta say I was a bit nervous cutting off about 7 inches of my hair today...it hasn't been this short in years! But Gerard was so amazing and he seemed so excited to help me with my transformation. He did such a great job, I'm really pleased with the results. And he just seems like a really nice guy who likes people and genuinely likes what he does for a living. And the place was chill and relaxing with good tunes. Excited to go back to get some color and complete the transformation!

I just had my first experience at Salon Gerard and it was wonderful. My hair was styled in a side swept partial up do by the wonderful Mary! I have to say I think she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She has mastered the ever important skill of being a great communicator!! She is a fantastic stylist! My hair was swept back and to the side with a beautiful braid holding it together! I LOVED IT and I will definitely being going back to see Mary again soon!!!

my dope hair by caroline cafferty

honestly, wish i could give more than five stars. Caroline Cafferty hath slayed my existence. I came in with super jacked up looking hair, bleached terribly at home from dark brown to a gross blonde w purple and green (i looked so crusty the before photo does not do it justice), and she got me to the lilac i wanted. she took time to talk to me, see photos of what i wanted and she worked SO HARD so make sure my hair was exactly what i wanted. I usually hate salons and i leave pretending i like it, but this Sh*t is straight fire, no one can argue otherwise. her insta is @teezittojeezus

I had a very good experience here. The staff was kind and accessible. Caroline colored my hair, giving me intricate and gorgeous blonde highlights. I love this new hair color; highly recommend!.

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.
