Had my haircut for the first time in 9 months last night after being nervous to go back to the salon and boy am I happy I did. The staff took my temperature when I arrived, had me fill out a short form, and took all the safety measures required. The receptionist is so warm and welcoming, the woman who washes my hair gives the best head massage, and Franco does an amazing cut. I was having a hair emergency and called this place, since it's very close to my home. Was able to get a same day appointment with Cyrus. Despite the fact that it's an upscale salon in an upscale neighborhood, everybody was very friendly and it was a relaxed atmosphere. They were playing some great chill music. Cyrus was able to make my curly hair look AMAZING! I only wished I had a special event to go to. He also did a great job touching up my highlights. I also appreciated how he didn't talk my ear off like most stylists, and the cut and color didn't take much more than an hour. I was going to do a Balayage on my hair. My hair was not in a good condition for bleaching it so Franco were Honest to me and told me that He wouldn't do what I wanted because my hair was not in the best condition to get what I wanted to be done. He explained to me the reasons why he couldn't do my hair and I really appreciated the fact that he wanted to take care of my hair by telling me that I should wait more, he did not just wanted my hair to look good but healthy as well He told me that I would have to wait a couple o months in order to get my hair done the way I want it, and i will definitely wait and get it done by him. Listening for understanding is rare in this world, and should be a minimum criterion for a hair stylist. Jim is the guy who can Do This. He frequently checks in, asks good questions and listens well (restating things back to you is spot on), and knows his way around scissors and all kinds of hair textures. Shorties, all manner of men's cuts, blowouts, big color jobs: he's got it. The concept of a solidly great cut that'll behave no matter what you do to it is the M.O. As I'm writing this review, I'm currently flipping and playing with my amazing hair that was cut and styled this afternoon. Before moving to DC I had a stylist back in Baltimore who I came to for almost three years. I was reluctant to try something new but I am so glad I did. The first time I came to Salon Macomb was in March 2018 and my hair was styled by Franco. I absolutely loved my hair even more than what I used to get done in Baltimore. I had no idea what I wanted when I came in and just asked for him to make me beautiful. He gave me long layers with relaxed waves and a feathered front to shape my face. He even meticulously walked me through on how to style my hair on my own because I have no skills with choosing products let alone blow-drying properly. He explained what brushes to use, the temperature of the dryer that would be appropriate, and what steps to incorporate. More importantly, all of his instructions catered to the morning rush when I'm getting ready for work. Today was my second time and I asked for anyone who was available because Franco was booked. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted and Cem took care of everything. I showed him photos and gave a very detailed description and he precisely hit all my checkpoints. The staff is fun, lively, and easygoing. I've been meaning to write this review for months but just got to it now. It's also been months since my March haircut because as my hair grew, the style grew out nicely so it's as if I extended my awesome haircut over the span of four months instead of the average four weeks for most hairstyles. Franco gives the quickest and best hair cuts. He is very detail oriented... Works with the natural style of your hair. The blow outs cost extra and I know why - they're one of a kind. Seriously: the blow outs are quality beyond any blow dry bar; they last a long time, they style well, and they really know what they are doing with hair. I was so disappointed with my haircut today, I was excited to meet Franco because a friend of mine recommended him at his new salon. It was my birthday and I took some time off of work to travel to Salon Macomb, which is quite far from me in hopes that I would find a great stylist. Franco seems like a nice person, but maybe I caught him on an off day? When I arrived, another stylist told me that he would cut my hair even though I made my appointment with Franco. I thought it was a bit odd and when Franco was around, after my hair was washed, he said he would cut it. I wanted to show him some photos of what I had in mind, especially because my friend said that he was great and really listening to what you want. However, he had several angry calls with contractors and didn't listen to what I wanted but proposed what was best for my hair. When he finished I tried to ask again for a bit more of what I had in mind. He seemed very annoyed and said that it "doesn't matter," proceeding to chop of my front bangs at an odd angle. I was speechless and upset. When I left I cried on the walk to the metro. I know its just a haircut, but when you are hoping that you will look better, and not have helmet hair when you are done, its very frustrating. read more

Salon Macomb is fantastic! The salon is in a cute area of cathedral heights and was very neat with a fun vibe. I came in for the first time a few days ago to get a cut and I met with the lovely and very talented Cyrus. He knew exactly what he was doing and is the first stylist I've ever been to that listened to what I wanted and gave me recommendations before just doing what I said. Most stylists just start cutting but Cyrus wanted to talk about my hair with me and find what was best. What I thought I wanted ended up not being what was best for my hair and he worked with me to find the best solution. I have very long and thick hair that doesn't cope well with the D.C. humidity, and Cyrus took care to discuss my hair type with me and gave me an amazing cut that took some weight off without adding a ton of layers, all while still keeping the length I wanted. He also gave me some great tips on how to keep my hair healthy. I left the salon with the best looking cut I've ever had! My hair has never looked or felt healthier. Cyrus could not have been more fun to chat with and the other salon staff were so accommodating and personable. I had a great experience will no doubt be back! read more

I really wish that I could say that I loved it after all of the positive reviews, but I can't. I went in with a photo of exactly what I wanted (slightly past shoulder length, layered, and angled for curly hair), but ended up with something totally different. I showed the picture to my stylist, I am not sure who it was that day, and commented that my hair is very curly despite the fact that it was only wavy at the time due to being in a ponytail. My stylist commented that my hair cut was not doing anything for my curls and that they weren't showing, but I thought he just meant that he would give them a cut to show them off better. Before I could even check the length, my hair was way too short. It was gone before I could even notice in time to speak up. It was barely reaching my shoulders when wet, which I knew would be a disaster when it dried. Now, it barely reaches my chin when it is curly. Probably 3-4 inches shorter than I had desired. Clearly he was not paying attention to my hair type even though I made a point of commenting on it. Maybe I should have said something at the salon, but i didn't seem worth it since there is nothing that can be done to bring my hair back. I am just very disappointed with my hair cut and will probably not be returning. It felt like my stylist decided what he was doing and did not listen to me. I know my hair will grow back, but I do miss my curls and I will probably search for someone who is better at cutting curly hair in the future. read more
