Making an appointment is easy and quick. They do ask you to put a card down and have a pretty strict cancellation policy. Faith is great. She's sweet and kind. Very efficient and listens to what you want and encourages you to let her know if anything isn't quite what you wanted it to be. Whole staff is friendly and prices are fair, all things considered. I had recently moved to the Triangle area and desperately needed a haircut. I won a gift card to Plum from an awards dinner at work. I decided to get my hair dyed since I'm starting to get gray hairs. (Sucks to get old!) I set an appointment up with Brooke and brought photos of some ideas of what I wanted. Since this was the first time I had ever dyed my hair I was very nervous because you hear all the horror stories of people dying their hair and it not coming out right and not being able to change it, etc. Brooke was really patient and very sweet! She gave great suggestions and explain different options of what I could do with my hair. I decided to go with something similar to my natural hair color but added some low lights with a little balayage. It came out perfect! I'm so happy I went with Brooke's suggestions! This was back in May 2015 and I have an appointment with her in a few weeks since I have two weddings coming up. I live in Chapel Hill and the salon is located in Raleigh but for me it's worth the drive. It's definitely an upscale salon and has a city feel to it would be exposed concrete and high-end decor. Brooke was explaining to me that the girls are constantly going through training or going to NYC for classes, which I think is great! Their services are more expensive than your typical salon but for me it was worth it since the service was outstanding. read more

I went in to get my eyebrows waxed and I could have done a significantly better job at home with tweezers. I asked for a soft arch and I got one... but just one. The brows are completely different shapes and I left with wax all over my face and had to tweeze fly aways when I got home. The room where I got them done was also dark so I'm not sure how someone could expect to do good work in such a space. Unfortunately I had to go to a diffrent salon latter that day to salvage them. So happy. The staff is incredibly friendly, prices are reasonable and Ellen is a fabulous stylist. I really enjoy the layout of the salon, with a seating area styled like a bar that allows you to relax, drink some water and de stress while waiting for your hair to be done. I've had difficulty finding a good salon in NYC, traveling to all different parts of the island only to end up right across the street from my apartment. When I moved down to Raleigh (after being accustomed to top notch salons in NYC, San Francisco, London, etc) - I was nervous about finding a place that is consistently reliable, high quality, and where people know exactly what you need, when you need it, without you even having to ask. I have been loyal to the two people who started Plum for almost 3 years, and have even flown back to Raleigh when I was relocated for work because when you find something as amazing and trustworthy as them, you don't leave. And their talent extends to the incredible staff they have so carefully selected and trained. @ Lu S. - I am curious to know if you told someone you weren't happy with your experience...it's one thing to complain online, it's another to allow someone the opportunity to make things right - which I know they would have made every effort to do. The salon was modern and nicely decorated. It was a little dark inside... I'm not sure how they see what they're doing. I had my hair cut by Laura. She and the rest of the staff were very nice. I only got a trim, but she listened to what I wanted and then explained everything she was doing. I will definitely go back. The picture really doesn't do this transformation justice. I tried to to my own hair (bleached & colored it) which ended up being half orange & half brownish. I went on Yelp to try and find the best person to fix the damage and I found her! Robyn at @plumhairatelier was the best!! I've never worked with someone who knew SO much about color. We couldn't get all the color out of the bottom & it turned a tealish color...instead of coloring over it again Robyn convinced me to run with it & I actually love it! She did a reddish purple color on the top and brought some of that down to the bottom and it flows really nicely! We also did a hair treatment & my hair almost feels as good as it did prior to the bleaching. I finally found my color expert in Raleigh and I can't wait to go back :) read more

I have never been one of those people who had a set hair dresser that I had gone to for years and years which is probably because I'm not particularly picky or wild with my hair styles, so when I decided I wanted to get an ombré done I was really skeptical about who was going to do it. I went to see Caila at Plum (after a friend's recommendation) and she did a fantastic job. I had brought in pictures of what I wanted that I found on Pinterest and left the salon with exactly what I wanted! I was 100% happy with my experience at Plum and the pricing was more the reasonable. Not to mention the decor and layout is so cute and modern. I've even been back for a second visit now to take out the ombré after having it a few months. Caila had great recommendations and covering up the ombré was easier than I thought! Finally! A hair salon that knows what they are doing!! I've been to so many salons in the past and this has been by far the best experience I've ever had. Firstly, the salon is absolutely gorgeous- very modern and inviting. They provide complimentary drinks - wine, Prosecco , tea / coffee to help you relax. Secondly, everyone seems super nice! I had Brooke & Shannon and they were beyond excellent. Took the time to understand what I was looking to have in hair color and then suggested some ideas. I'm already blonde but wanted to brighten it up and thought I'd need to get highlights to accomplish that but Brooke suggested a silver/blonde toner instead. This has been the first time I've ever had a salon not take advantage of their clients and suggest procedures they didn't need. My hair turned out amazing, the exact blonde I was looking for!! Fantastic! It is so hard to find a place that does a great job in both cut and color but Plum is it. Ashley and Erin are the owners and they have created a place that delivers impeccable service. All of the women there have worked with Ashley and Erin for years and are top in their field. And the head massage that comes with the shampooing is to die for. I called Plum on a whim thinking I would come to Raleigh- I live in Wilson- to get my nails done at Oberlin Nail Spa and get a previously botched hair cut fixed at Plum. A woman whose hair I had admired at the nail salon on a previous occasion said she had just come from getting it done there. When I called, Shelby answered the phone and was very friendly and helpful. I was getting an oil change in Wilson but said as long as nothing was wrong with my car I could make a 12:15 apt. She said to just call if I had to reschedule for later. Turns out I needed four new tires. I had to call and reschedule for 3. Shelby again was nice and understanding. I got done a little early and called a third time to see if I could come in at 2 but that apt had just been taken. This time someone else had answered but she was helpful too and asked if I'd still be okay with my 3 apt. I said yes that'd be fine. When I arrived I was greeted with a smile and somehow launched into a conversation with Shelby and the staff at the front about the greatness of dogs- I knew this place was for me! This review is so long and I haven't even said anything about Alexis - the young woman who cut my hair. The first thing that struck me is that she herself has beautiful hair. Second, she listened to my story and came up with a solution and explained it clearly. I felt confident in her ability to fix my problem - over processed dry frizzy hair with no style - and she hadn't even begun to work on my hair. She washed it then explained again the plan. I agreed and she began methodically trimming my hair. The products she used to wash and style my hair were top notch. Even wet I could see my hair color already appeared prettier and my hair healthier. She did a fantastic job cutting and styling it. She explained how to use the products and round brush with the blow dryer to achieve the result she got. Alexis is friendly and a true professional. She walked me to the front and said I should have my hair trimmed again in ten weeks. Shelby and the front staff rung me up and said good bye. From the first phone call to the time I left I was treated as if they were happy I was coming and that I had chosen Plum. This is a professional salon but not snooty. I will definitely return - it's worth a trip to Raleigh and the price is not unreasonable for the transformation that Alexis made to my hair! read more

I've been here three times to get my hair cut by two different people. I was hoping by the third time I'd be really happy with the place because of the good reviews, however, that was not the case. The first time I went in the stylist barely cut my hair and didn't even really talk to me. The second time (with a different stylist) I wanted my hair to be cut so I could wear it curly some and straight some. She cut my hair, twirled my hair with her fingers and then let me go so it could air dry. After going home it seemed fine curly...but when I wore it straight there were parts of my hair that were bluntly cut within the layers....kind of annoying for how much I paid. The third time I went in the stylist decided to not shampoo my hair and do a dry cut. I told her I started curling my hair since my natural waves/curls weren't what I was going it. So, she dry cut my hair, and did quick loose curls (took like 5 min). I went to the front and she charged me the full price I normally would pay with shampoo and cut and then added an additional fee for the quick curl. I sucked it up and paid...just to have the curls not even last an hour. Disappointed. There are cheaper and better places in downtown. read more

I am giving this place a one star. Why? Well, first of all I want to make it clear that the salon is beautiful and the staff is nice. However, I have been having my hair highlighted for years. I told the stylist that I wanted to go super blonde. I asked for a major transformation and even had pictures. I also got a trim from another stylist. My hair color turned out natural and whatever but it really didn't look any better then when I've had it done other places. It also definitely didn't look that much lighter or different. It has now been 3 weeks and my roots look terrible and the color is already back to what it was before. And that is with using the shampoo my colorist asked me to purchase. Another thing is the stylist took forever foiling my hair, longer than anyone ever has and it doesn't look much better or any different then when others have colored my hair. When I got to the front to pay I was told that my total was $325 for a slight trim, a full foil, and a bottle of shampoo. I had looked at the prices online and was shocked at the difference. I know I have thick medium length hair and knew it would be a more but that was almost double what I have paid other places- nice places. I probably wouldn't have written this if I had gotten what I wanted, but I didn't. And that was a lot of money and time I spent that day. read more
