I have been getting men's cuts here for about 4 or 5 months now from Jawan (pronounced like Joann), and have been really pleased with each one. This is a nice salon without being pretentious. The price is also right at about $35. The cuts have been as good as any place I've ever gone, and I've paid up to double that! Finally, I have never had a problem getting in to see Jawan on short notice, which is a HUGE plus, and something I am not used to in my experiences. read more

I have been seeing Elda for years, she does amazing highlights (and lowlights) and their prices are very reasonable. I am very particular with my color and I have spent far more at other salons for less desirable results. Plus everyone in there is so nice! I recently tried their new spray tan and I have to say, I looked awesome. I did it right before a trip to vegas and everyone was complimenting my tan in my skimpy vegas dresses (hey, it's vegas!) They also are very accomodating to get you in for appointments right away, which is very important to me given my busy schedule as a young professional. And they use all the best products but I never feel like I am on a sales pitch (like at other salons) to buy the products. I am so lucky they are right in my neighborhood! read more

Lamia has been cutting and coloring my hair for 15 years. Her skill is fabulous and she is always honest. I have 5 daughters and all have and are customers as well as my husband. Elda is great with all styles and can fill in for me anytime Lamia is out of town. All of their services are top notch. Heaven forbid I ever leave Chicagoland - I would have to bring Lamia with me!!! I've been getting my hair cut & colored by Lamia for five years now and my husband get his hair cut by Elda (who did our son's first haircut - it's a family affair!). Lamia makes you feel like a family member - every time I walk in I am greeted so warmly and I know that at the end of my visit, not only will my hair look amazing, but I will feel renewed, relaxed and like I just spent the last hour and half in the company of friends. This salon has the talent of the expensive, pretentious places with none of the judgment and incredibly reasonable prices. Lamia is a genius colorist - 8 weeks post and I don't have to hide under a hat. I have sent lots of people I care about to Salon Lamia when they are looking for a new hair place - trust me, you'll be happy with the results. Salon Lamia is a wonderful oasis in the world of "pretentious" salons. My friend referred me to Edda, and I love what she does with my hair, how she is when she is working with me. She totally puts my mind at ease and I always love the way I look when she is done. Did a walk-in today and they fit me in for a pedi/mani and a haircut. The same woman was able to do it all and I can't imagine being more pleased. She asked me repeatedly what I wanted and gave me exactly that. They are my new salon and hairdresser, which as everyone knows, can be nearly as important as the question, "Who is your primary care physician?" I don't get sick, so I don't have one, but I sure need my hair did, so I am quite happy now! read more

Lamia and her staff our wonderful. I came for help after getting very poor quality hair extensions. The glue on the extensions was so bad, Lamia had 3 other staff members helping remove them. Otherwise my hair would have been ruined. Lamia then gave me a great color and she put in new professional quality hair extensions. It's been about 8 weeks and these are the best extensions I have ever had. I also got the best hair cut from Lamia. I am a big fan. read more

Fantastic salon for blondes seeking color work. I'm new to Evanston and new to the US, and it's always a huge hassle trying to find a good colorist in a new city. Salon Lamia was the first place I tried, and I don't need to keep looking. I had a 3/4 head of highlights for a really great price, with a beautiful blow-dry included. My hair is tricky as I've been blonde for three years but am transitioning back to a darker blonde, and I hadn't been to a salon for four months so it was a bit of a mess. Lamia did an amazing job, I'm so happy with it and would recommend the salon to anyone. My fiance told me about it, it's where he goes for a good value men's haircut. My hair is dark and naturally curly. I've been wanting to switch things up without doing too much damage, so I decided on balayage color. I'm relatively new to the area, and chose Salon Lamia based on yelp reviews, photos of haircolor that was done at the salon, and the fact that they listed baseline prices on their website. Lamia colored my hair. I wanted natural, but noticeable color and showed her some pictures. I left the salon with wet hair, and when it dried I realized that the color was not as noticeable as I would've liked (which is understandable, the technique probably works well on straight hair but the subtle strands seemed to disappear in my curls). I called that same evening, and was scheduled to come back in first thing the next morning at no additional charge. Lamia was very gracious and understood what I meant about the color being too subtle for my thick curls. She agreed that thicker strands would provide more noticeable color, but still look natural in my curly hair. After this second appointment, my hair looks great! It is exactly how I envisioned, and very similar to the pictures I provided. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover hair is still very soft! The color didn't dry my hair out at all, unlike previous processing at home and at chain-salons. The price was also reasonable! Very happy with the results and the service I experienced. First let me say I had to give the place 1 star only b/k it wouldnt let me post the review but it does not deserve it.....I had my experience with Salon Lamia 2 months ago and I am still NOT over it! At the time I thought I was too heated to write me review but as I sit here 2 months later I am still shocked. Here goes.... I was looking for a salon to do my hair for my wedding. I was getting ready in Evanston so I thought this would workout perfect. I called the Salon and told the receptionist that I wanted to TALK with someone about what I wanted to be done with my hair. I was very specific about NOT getting a trial at this time. Receptionist agreed and said come right in. The sylist comes over to chat with me. I showed her several pictures but seems like we were not on the same page. She wanted me to follow her to her chair so she can try a few curls. I had just gotten my hair done the day before that is why I didnt want the trial just yet but a few curls I can deal with. After a few more min. the stylist told me to go online and look at celebrities b/k she was still not getting it. When I get back to the chair we talked a few more min . Finally we agreed and that was it. When I made the appointment for the wedding day the receptionist asked me if the stylist said how much she wold be charging me. I said she never said anything but when I came in and talked to you, you said it was a free consultation. The receptionist told me to hold while she grabbed the owner. Mind you the owner was sitting in a chair getting her hair colored and came over to tell me it was $55 for the trial. I realize that is the standard rate for a trial but I told 2 people here I just wanted to talk. It was the stylist who insisted I go to the chair. It's not my fault she didnt get it. The owner, Lamia, continued to argue with me and was getting loud, stating how can I come in here and expect to get a trial for free. My argument is, if I was coming for a trial thats what I would have asked for. I would have brought a camera. When I walked out of that Salon I had nothing in my hair. I looked the exact same when I walked in. How could I pay 55. bucks for something I never had. I insisted that it was the stylist responsibility to tell me at the point of mew going to her chair that this is now the trial and there would be a fee. Thats all I asked for. Hell, the damn owner was sitting right next to me getting her hair colored the entire time and never said anything!! I told her I would gladly give the stylist 20 bucks tip but Lamia would not take it. All I say is be upfront with your customers about prices and Learn how to talk to people!! As the owner her attitude was shocking!! She yelled at me for a good 10 min. in front of the entire Salon. I have never had en experience like this in my life and I hope people read this before going to this Salon. If they still go at least they were warned. read more
