I went to this place because I had a promotional coupon for a semi-cheap haircut. I had a cut in mind with a picture in hand (I always bring a picture of what I want, to avoid confusion). The staff is friendly, and the decor is modern, clean and neat. The owner came up at some point and asked what type of music I liked listening to (I think he used to work in the music industry) and a while later a favorite song came on, which was nice. However, the guy who cut my hair (blocked his name out) asked HOW OLD I WAS. OK, I have no problem telling people my age in general, but come on, I'm in a HAIR SALON, I'm a WOMAN, do the math about whether you should ask about my age or not. And when I told him what kind of haircut I wanted, he said he wants to do something different. He said he will do something so great, so extraordinary, that I will never forget it and will always go back there for the rest of my life. Well. Let me tell you, he gave me the most boring slightly-layered-in-the-front, straight-through-the-back haircut. I was speechless, because it was the third worst haircut I have ever received, and the first two were done in a beauty school. So suffice it to say, I have never gone back there, and would not recommend this place to anyone. I can see that other people had better experiences, so it may have just been the specific person who was cutting my hair. After being on the hunt for a good hair stylist, I came here based on other yelp reviews. I think I've finally found my new salon. Everyone was so nice from the front desk, to the incredibly nice guy who washed my hair, and Gary, who cut my hair and styled it so well. I love that its not too big, the decor is simple, yet modern. Love coming to this salon! I always go to Ilyssa; not only is she insanely talented but she LISTENS! If I tell her what I'm going for she does exactly what I asked for and always has me leaving feeling amazing! I brought my niece here because I loved Ilyssa's technique so much and my niece who is 6 y/o loved her new cut too. She helped my niece feel comfortable while getting her hair done and made her laugh the whole time (My niece is a tough little girl). After my last experience at Salon Rock, I am NOT going back. They kept me waiting for a half hour, no one apologized and no one seemed to care. When I told Joe, my stylist that he did not apologize for keeping me waiting, he said, "I don't need to apologize. It wasn't my fault. The receptionist should have called you." That really got me angry. He is a representative of the Salon he should take responsibility. I had to leave before my hair was completely blown out (it was about 90% done) because time was running out on the Roslyn Muni Meter. Parking is a problem there. For general info, I have been going to Salon Rock for about a year. My haircuts have ranged from fair to good. Net, net, I am not going back for only a good haircut to a place where the staff is rude and the parking is a hassle. read more

I came to salon to rock 2 years ago by accident and haven't left since! Not only is the service attentive and amazing the stylists are incredibly skilled! Jackie cuts and colors my hair and now all my friends use her! I would recommend her to ANYONE!!! Diana gives an amazing haircut and blowout as well! The caliber of the services at this salon is unmatched by any I've ever been to and even after I moved (out of state) I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair! They accommodate any request while ensuring it looks amazing. Did a bridal trial here... was not impressed the least bit. First off, my stylist wasn't made aware it was a trial so she wasn't prepared so it was a complete waste. My hair wasn't complete when I left the chair. She told me I could do other things the day of the wedding and left me looking completely ridiculous. The point of a bridal trial is to complete the look so you know exactly how you're going to look the day of the wedding to perfect it Not a sneak peek. I ended up paying full price for a service that was not fully given to me. I was told I can come back to perfect it but really... you couldn't get it right the first time am I supposed to keep coming back and paying more and more money? I regret not speaking to the owner but rather than complain, I will just not go back. I guess that's why you do trials ... certainly will not be having my hair done here for my sisters wedding that is for sure. They couldnt care less, you're just another person in the chair. read more

I recently moved to NJ and had to find a new stylist after having the same one for 10yrs! This was very daunting for me. I went to Salon Rock for an eyebrow wax and to scope them out. I felt so comfortable with Trace that I let her do my cut and color. I was pleased with the results and the price! I get compliments on my hair everyday. I went back a month later to have my hair done again and was disappointed that Trace was no longer there. I reluctantly had someone else do my hair and was once again pleased with the results. Salon Rock has a great staff! They also have computers there so you can get work done while processing. Although it is hit or miss as to being offered a coffee I will continue to return to Salon Rock and I am ecstatic that I found a new great stylist. I purchased a haircut on Amazon Local. Not knowing what to expect I made an appointment. Instead of just getting the next available appointment, the receptionist took the time to ask me what kind of hair I had and what I was hoping to get done at my appointment. The sylist that cut my hair was named Carlos. He did an amazing job with my hair. It was totally unexpected coming from someone who has super straight baby fine hair! The rest of the staff were friendly and professional. The salon is pristine with a lovely water view. I am so impressed with my doo!
