With so many glowing reviews, I decided to try this salon again for a blowout refresh before a wedding. As a local, I've given this place a few chances over the years, despite a criminally poorly executed curly bob I received here at 16. Unfortunately, none of my subsequent experiences--whether cuts or blowouts--have been positive. My family members have also visited on occasion, but none have returned due to the underwhelming service. This time, I called ahead to confirm if they could style my naturally curly hair into voluminous waves, to which they assured me it could be done and told me to come in within 30 minutes. Despite the busy day they were having, I walked out with flat, lifeless waves that looked greasy and unstyled. I have curly hair that holds curls very well, so this shouldn't have been a difficult request. However, I left the salon looking haggard and had to hold back tears as I rushed home to completely restyle my hair before the event. I can't imagine any reputable salon allowing a client to leave looking the way I did. It seemed like most of the styles being done were for older clientele, and I didn't see any "cool" or current styles being executed. If I could write 2 separate reviews with different stars, I would. Please read my entire review. I'll start with the bad and follow with the great! I have mixed feelings about my first experience here. My friends mom goes to Paragon so she suggested I try it out. I booked an appointment for a cut & color. The receptionist gave me Anthony for color & Alex for cut. My friend told me to call Back and request Dina, I was like eh, whatever, I should have listened. Alex gets one star. He was super cocky. He told me he'd been cutting hair for years, he was new to Paragon, there for 4 months, come to find out he had only been working there for 3 weeks. He told me he had years experience cutting hair on Madison Avenue and he's worked with celebrities such as J.Lo and Jennifer Aniston, who was a sweet heart and I reminded him of her. (Eye roll). He told me he was a perfectionist, he was trained by strict Russians. I told him I wanted a change, I wanted my hair short to about my shoulders. It seemed he was afraid to cut it that short. I walked out with a 13 year old girls haircut and when I washed it the next day I realized it was uneven! One side was longer than the other! Obviously I called and wanted to get my hair fixed. The receptionist told me that I had to go back to Alex. Why would I want to go back to a stylist who gave me a terrible haircut in the first place. I asked if I could please go to Dina and she told me that I can't switch stylists, if I went to Dina she would have to charge me for a blowout. So I paid all this money for my hair and you're going to charge me extra for your mistake? Not only did Alex give me terrible haircut, I didn't like his personality, there was no way I would return to him. Finally the lady told me since I was a first time customer she wants me to be happy and she booked me with Dina. Dina gets five stars. She was absolutely amazing, she gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. She listened, cut it the length I wanted, gave me all these fun long layers, the next day at work it actually looked like I got a haircut. I love my hair and will definitely be a returning customer for her. Anthony also gets five stars, he covered all my grays a really nice shade of brown. I just can't justify spending $60+ dollars to color my hair. Why spend that much when I can do it at home for $10. Like I said Dina & Anthony were great. I am a repeat customer for Dina for sure. NEVER GO TO THIS SALON!!!!! About six months ago, I needed a haircut and called up my "usual" hair guy at paragon, who cut my hair about 5x in the past. I asked him to please give me a good cut, which I told him the last 5x he cut my hair. Little did I know that a "good cut" meant in his eyes CHOPPING 12 inches off of my head. He did NOT confirm with me before cutting 12 Inches off his client's hair that he has cut many times before. This man has been cutting hair for over thirty years. YET doesn't confirm with his clients before cutting 12 inches off their hair? My hair was LONG, and never once did I ever insinuate to him I wanted a BOB. A seasoned hair cutter should know 1 to ask their client prior and 2 to triple confirm if someone is making a big decision to cut 12 inches off. To me, 12 inches is a life change, and If I knew he was cutting that much. I, for sure, would have given my hair to someone in need. Anyways, after this happened, he claimed he was "out of it, a lot going on in his personal life" "He didn't mean to cut my hair OFF". The owner, nor did the place seem to care once I walked out of the chair at all . They Never called me to check in on how I was doing. They claimed to give me "extensions," yet they fell out the next day, all 30 of them. They made me tip the women who put them in and also asked if I would pay for them. Now it's three months later, and I am over 1,000 deep in spending to fix this hair. Finally, I am no longer ashamed to walk out of my home without a hair on because I sucked it up, let it grow a little then went to an excellent hair cutter to fix it. To paragon, thanks for the awful customer service. If you're looking to use them for a service, know they probably won't care if they fuck up your service in anyways or will tell you, " good thing, you're pretty." I would sue if I could, but honestly, I hope this review means more. read more

I would give the woman at makeup zero stars if I could. I tried to make an appointment for 9am which they told me they don't come in until 9:30. I specifically told them I had a photo shoot at 10:30 to which they said it would be no problem. I showed up at 9:20 and someone else was getting their makeup done. She told me it would be 5 mins. She told me that 3 more times until 10am when I said I had to leave by 10:15 to which she said it would take 30 mins to do my makeup. She was rude and unapologetic and really messed up my day. I had never been to this salon until this morning, when I got a round brush extremely tangled into my (long) hair. I called a different salon first and they said I couldn't Come in until the afternoon. I called paragon and they told me to come right in. Luis sat me down and effortlessly and painlessly got the brush out of my hair in less than one minute, without having to cut it. He's amazing. He even blew my hair out and didn't charge me. Luis and everyone else was extremely kind and comforting as I was almost in tears. I love this salon and I will be coming back. read more

I have been coming to this salon for 10 years with the same hairdresser and always felt like I had a pretty decent haircut at the end of every visit. However, I stopped going or recommending paragon due to an outrageously horrible experience. I'm one of those easy, just give me a trim haircut people that comes in twice a year. On this day it happened to be my hairdressers 30th birthday and she was pretty overwhelmed in a Saturday and was very angry "someone must have overbooked you". I asked her to donate my hair this time-just chop it off. In the middle of my haircut, she calls another hairdresser over and when she gives advice they both gasp, laugh, and whisper to each other (as if I can't see them in the mirror). Needless to say, my hair wasn't ruined and hair grows back, who cares. The fact that these two professionals felt they should act as though they were a part of desperate housewives and gawk over some silly mistake in front of a customer was ridiculous. If you want to get a haircut at a pretentious salon on the north shore of Long Island, I suggest going elsewhere. read more

I've experienced much better. The girl who cut my hair.. I can't remember her name.. was very nice and we conversed really well and I thought she was listening to what I wanted. But I went in just wanting some cut off the bottom and a few layers and left looking like the star of a 90s sitcom. So. Many. Layers. Random layers. And of course with the LI blow out they looked okay, but once I washed them (yeesh). And I made sure to mention to the girl that I love to braid my hair or throw it up in a top knot, and I can no longer do either of those things. Not even a side braid. I feel like she just didn't listen to what I wanted and got snipping away. It's probably one of the worst 3 haircuts I've ever had. I expected a lot more from someone who supposedly cut hair in NYC. I chose this place because it got 5 stars. Giving it 2 stars was a stretch. I will not recommend this place to anyone. a $15 Barber has better customer service. If you're looking for a place that's worth your money look somewhere else. I wanted to treat myself but my experience was hardly a treat. On the phone I asked how much it would be for partial highlights and they told me it would be up to the stylist decide. I have a pixie haircut so I already knew that it wasn't going to be very expensive. The stylist and I decided to go with peek a boo partial highlights. i waited in the sink for 15 minutes with my neck in the awkward position waiting for someone to wash my hair. Hair colorist (not Chris) did not even check to see how my color came out. In fact they left me waiting with wet hair for 30 minutes unattended. They said somebody would be right with me to blow dry my hair. No one ever came. Not even my stylist. I was so cold and felt neglected. I have never gotten my hair colored before where the stylist doesnt bother to check to see how the color turned out or bother to say bye come back again . He finally came after 30 minutes or more and asked why im still here. Um ...hello!? my hair is wet and how can i leave before seeing results? He took me to a corner and handed me a blow dryer and I had to blow dry my own hair. Thats a first. I felt like I wasn't in a salon at all. When I went to the front to pay they told me the total is $146. I was sure this was a mistake. I have really short hair and this was partial highlights. And the customer service was terrible. They confirmed with him and he said that is the correct price. And apparently I was charged for full highlights. I definitely asked for partial and what I got was partial. Whether he thinks this is full highlights or not we agreed upon partial highlights. Whenever one goes to a highly rated salon they expect exceptional service. In the least you should be asked if you want something to drink. This is the first place I've gone to that was really highly rated where I wasn't even asked if I wanted a drink. I was hot under the hair heater , we r in middle of heat wave & I had to request something to drink toward end of apt.I asked for water. & I got a teeny tiny waxed paper cup of water from ozarka water tank. How generous. and to think at the end of this I had to leave a tip. And at the end I was not happy with my hair at all. it was nothing like how we discussed it would be. but I didn't want to subject myself to this business again. Horrible customer service and untrained personal! I went to Paragon Salon to get my gel nails filled. The manicurist lady Mary used acrylic on my gel nails, which made them crack and cause serious damage to my actual nail. Furthermore, she did a horrible job on finishing up my nails as it is. I found out later on from the owner, that his manicurists do not have any training in doing fake nails... I am pretty sure that is not legal. Once I came back to get my money back, they tried to blame me for ruining the nails myself and then would not even give me my money back unless I signed a piece of paper which took off any liability of their salon.... hm.... I wonder why they were so worried about getting sued if they were right as they claimed. Their owner Anthony is a total loud mouth and is an arrogant Italian long islander... I think you get my drift... Also, they treated me and my bf like were some kind of low class homeless people who came to beg. I moved here from Florida 9 months ago and have had a hard time finding the right colorist. Someone referred me here and when I called I explained I am very particular about my hair and was referred to Anthony, they told me Anthony does excellent work on blondes. I had Mercedes take my extensions out that another salon had put in. What a nightmare! She literally ripped out 1/3 of my own hair with the hair extensions! My natural hair was full and now I can barely make a ponytail without my hair falling out of the holder. I am very upset. When I called her to ask for the after photos of my hair, she said she would email them to me and never did, even though I texted her 2x more - she never responded to those texts. She was VERY unprofessional, coming late for the consult and the actual apt and seemed very disorganized. I curse the day I trusted her, now I make the best of growing my hair back. read more

He's a perfectionist, but also a creative, artistic talent. I have had everything from single processed rich browns to heavy blonde highlights. All colors suited me to a tee thanks to Freddy's eye and experience. Laura has been cutting my hair for years and has taken me from long to pixie short and back again. I had very long hair that hadn't been cut in a long time, but after I had my first child and was finished with maternity leave, I needed a change and decided to cut it short to make it easier getting ready in the morning. She did a great job! I thought I was going to regret going short, but she cut it the perfect length, and put in some nice layers, too. She has been the only person who has cut bangs that I like! I know how difficult it is to find a good hair stylist-well girls, look no further..... Paragon is hands down my favorite hair salon!! Every time I am there I feel pampered and taken care of. My stylist Michelle is amazing-She never forces me to cut or color my hair a certain way, but is always offering suggestions when I am unsure of what to do! I think one of the greatest things is that I never feel rushed-even the girls who wash my hair are so friendly and strike up conversation. Michelle and her assistants take their time to color and cut my hair right and do not make me feel like it is an in and out service like I have experienced at other salons. Horrible experience here! I went to this salon for a bridal hair trial. First of all, the staff was not friendly at all. My trial was interrupted numerous times by a rude customer who was waiting for the stylist to cut her sons hair. By the end of the trial, she sat down in a chair next to me, staring at us and making comments, and her son was hovering behind us. Not only did the stylist not say anything to her, after I told the ladies at the reception area what happened, their response was not to apologize but say that I should have said something to the customer!! My friend and I were infuriated! The manager to his credit did call later and apologize and offer me a free trial but after that experience I had no desire to go back there, especially for my wedding hair style!
