He did a great job, even positioned some for low lights so that it would blend well and apparently gave me a complimentary blow out (I did think it was included) He ran a few minutes late, but got started right away once he got in. He spent time looking over my hair and making comments, he gave me some great advice and tips on my hair and generally was friendly and professional. The Salon staff were welcoming and professional. Haircut was decent. Hair coloring was bad, they had one person flip flop from 1-4 hair clients. I had my head scalp, nearly burnt off from being under that space pod for nearly 40 minutes in order to facilitate - faster processing. Had asked my colorist is this going to damage my hair, low and behold i am googling this she tells me no and i read it does!!! I asked the nice hairstylist to please rinse off using ice cold water since i felt a scalp trauma i mean i always give every salon a chance to impress me but to my dismay this hadn't. I think their motto of City like services is definitely not ringing through to me and i am surprised when i had called to make an appt. to correct it that they thought it can be pushed off till 2 weeks later. Meanwhile, i am looking like a clown with half red coloring per say and the other half at the ends all bleached out without my original color selected. I would've thought to correct the mistake they would book me earlier to receive a better review but i guess not. I guess trekking into the city for better experience is necessary, i love Cutler and or Aveda. At least they won't damage my scalp in the process of coloring! read more

I have been to nearly every hair salon on the North Shore and not one of them comes close to Lauren Lavelle's service. I came to Lauren Lavelle about five years ago after nearly half of my hair burnt off from a stylist at another nearby salon. Bill knew exactly what to do to help repair my hair and I have been a loyal customer ever since. Bill does amazing work, and he knows how to place the highlights so that they still look good when they begin growing out. I transitioned from working in the city for over a decade to working in Nassau on LI. All of my beauty peeps were in the city and I was petrified to go to someone new after so many years on LI - where, let's keep it real - sometimes the talent is nowhere near the level of NYC talent. After bitching about my hair to my new coworker for at least 3 months, she finally just knocked some sense into me and recommended Lauren Lavalle. She recommended Julie Y, as she has known her personally most of her life and I took a chance and made a cut appointment with the owner Lauren as she was the one available at that time. I haven't had a proper haircut in a LONG time and my hair was very long and needed it. Lauren sat me down - I spent maybe a minute or two explaining what I wanted and how desperately I felt that I needed a pep in my step for my hair. She seemed very confident which at first had me worried and literally did her magic in maybe 10 minutes which was absolutely terrifying. She cut and did a lot and was moving very fast. But it ended up being the best THE BEST haircut of my entire life. She charges more than the other stylists but since this was an actual haircut and not a trim I felt it was worth it. It has been a month and people are still commenting at how great my layers look. So she is definitely worth the money in my opinion. As expected - Julie was everything my coworker said she would be and more. I did a partial Bayalage which I have never had - I've been a single process girl for a very long time. Julie was really receptive and very personable and understood that i didn't want anything too drastic but definitely a subtle change. I had brought a picture from her IG page that I used as a reference and she was very good at communicating how she would change it to fit my needs. She explained everything as we went and made me feel comfortable. The color came out incredible - normally I don't get a blow-out but I got one by Michelle and she did a great job. It was a nice treat to myself and one I haven't had in a long time that I did not regret. I have found my new hair salon and have already scheduled my next appointment with Julie Yamada. I went there with a living social voucher for partial highlights or single process color plus a haircut and style. I went to do my color and asked for single process. the colorist wouldn't do it and only did a gloss?? I asked multiple times for single process and she was insistent that I only needed gloss but it wasn't what I paid for. Gloss is less than half the cost of what my voucher was for. Then because they couldn't fit my haircut in, and I was coming back to do it, she said they wouldn't blow dry my hair so I had to do it myself. so I got jipped out of the color AND they wouldn't even dry it to compensate. read more

It's no wonder Lauren Lavelle operates out of a little hole in the wall. This business will never grow because of how they treat their clients. I've never received worse results or treatment anywhere. Julie did my color. She did the opposite of what I asked her to do. She told me she couldn't fix it that afternoon because she had plans. I didn't want to be a jerk because I knew her plans were with family. She convinced me to "live with it" for a few days. My friends told me I looked "beige". I had an event coming up a few days later and was scheduled to return to Lauren Lavelle anyway for an up-do. I rearranged my schedule to have Julie fix my color first. Before the appointment, I thought to myself, "what can I do to make sure it goes right this time? Maybe I need to communicate more clearly." I showed up with 4 Pinterest boards showing put the highlights here, not here. Make the color this tone, not that tone. Julie looked at it and arrogantly said, "I do this style all day long, I got it." Once she put the initial color on, she handed me over to the assistant and gave instructions based on how much time SHE had, not on how my hair was responding because she never checked it. The result was somewhat better but was still not close to what I had shown her. There was no time to fix it that day. Each visit I was tipping Julie and the assistant VERY generously because I'm always respectful that for stylists, time is money. I called the salon a couple of days later and said I wanted to come in again to have it finally fixed. The receptionist put me on hold, then said they wouldn't let me come back and that Lauren Lavelle said they would refund my money. I asked to speak with Lauren. She was obnoxious and made it clear she didn't want or need my business. She repeated they'd refund my money and I agreed under the circumstances they should, since they refused to make it right. They DID NOT REFUND my payment. So on top of being incompetent and rude, they're completely unethical. I had to spend hundreds more to have the color fixed at another salon. The happy ending is that I found Patty at HeadRush, who is fabulous, and finally gave me the color I wanted. If you need a correction, go see her. read more
