Ruby gives excellent haircuts for my family. However, the last time I was there, I was so disappointed. We had an appointment with one of his stylists, Moshe for my kid. When we got there, that stylist was still working on another customer. After 15 minutes of waiting, I asked him when he'd be done and he said 25 minutes! Are you kidding me? Then I asked Ruby and he said no, just ten minutes. We ended up waiting for a total of 40 minutes! To be expected to wait that long was ridiculous. Then a loudmouth female customer came in without an appointment and told Ruby that she had to be home in an hour and he can NEVER say no to her & her daughter for haircuts because she was so special. Instead of taking me, he took them instead! Then when I complained again, the nasty woman told me that I'm complaining too much! I told her to mind her own business. Then his stylist Moshe yelled at me and told me how other salons are way more expensive than Ruby and how I should stop complaining and appreciate his cheap price. At that point, I walked out only to be stopped by Ruby who FINALLY cut my kid's hair. It's sad that he only accommodated me while I was walking out. His rude staff and rude customer behavior towards me was uncalled for. Going to a salon should be a pleasant experience, not harassment from a customer and his staff! read more

I dropped in for a quick long layer trim. I had my hair cut by Niv who did a nice job, though I did not appreciate how the owner was talking to him roughly in another language the entire 10 minutes he was doing my hair...the environment seemed strained and tense. I payed, then left a tip for Niv and walked out. The salon owner chased me down the street and called for me...based on his behavior, I thought I forgot something there that he was returning. He then proceeded to tell me that the tip I left was "not enough" that there is a " 20% tip minimum just like in the restaurants." I was shocked, disgusted and confused as to why he would embarrass himself and put me on the spot like that for a measly extra two dollars. I explained to him that he has no right to dictate to a customer how much to tip and how ridiculous he is being. I gave him the extra two dollars so that he would leave me alone, but if I had been in my right mind I would have demanded the rest of my tip back. HORRIBLE BUSINESS ETIQUETTE...still shaking my head thinking about this. He definitely lost a customer in me and the rest of my friends. read more

Worst haircut of my life and the nastiest owner you ever met. I will NEVER be returning here! If only I could give negative stars. Total botch job haircut this guy should not be allowed to hold a pair of scissors, chopped all my hair of and the best kicker is I looked at it in the mirror when I got home and totally uneven! One side of my head the hair was so obviously longer than the rest. So I called to come back in to get it fixed, and I got no apology whatsoever on the phone or when I was there. Owner Ruby is present and this man has to be one of the most unprofessional people you ever meet in your life. Extremely rude and nasty, even in the way he speaks to his own employees. Receptionist tells Ruby the issue and it's this whole back and forth till finally they get one of the stylists to try and fix the hair cut and this stylist was the only one decent enough to finally say sorry even though he's fixing the other guys disaster. When I got there they try to have that same guy work on me who ruined my hair in the first place, hard pass I want someone who actually knows how to cut hair to fix this not chop the whole rest of. Even went to speak with owner ruby after and I'll tell you this man is of extremely poor character. Best I got after pointing out the total lack of customer care was a "sorry for how you feel" and made it seem like he was doing me this big favor for having the hair cut fixed. What a piece of work this guy is, what he should be apologizing for is the clear lack of competence his employee has and his own nasty attitude on top of it. Shove your fragile ego aside and apologize to a customer, proves he's a poor businessman on top of it. Likely why I've heard the stories of them yelling at customers for not giving more tips. I've heard so many horrors, they have maybe two decent people working there to keep the place afloat. Customers all run the other way. AVOID at all costs. read more

Ruby is a nice guy but very busy cutting the customers hair, watching his workers and paying attention to other customers at the same time. He is very quick, doesn't make conversation (which I love). But i did not have a good experience. This was my second visit. I was impressed by the first visit. So I came back. He cut conservatively and seemed nice. During the first visit he mentioned I should consider low-lights. So since I had a pleasant experience I came back for low lights and a cut. Horrible experience. He rushed through my haircut. It really did not feel like I got a haircut. He was so distracted that he did not give me the attention nor the focus a paying customer deserves. I tried to explain what i wanted but he brushed me off impatiently saying let me do my job! Turned off. Regarding the low-lights he did not do a half a head I had to show him where he neglected. He was so rushed. Then he told his worker something in his language and it turned out the guy took out my foils too early. The low-lights were ruined. I got some color but you could still see the roots from the last hightlights i got. Then during the cut he says I should consider high-lights. What the f---. You told me to get low-lights. Then why did you do the low-lights in the first place. You don't seem like a legitimate, credible stylist at all. His clients are a walking advertisement of his work. That was not reflected in my hair at all. I felt like I got nothing for my money. His focus is getting the money fast! His focus should instead be on having a returning customer who will refer his work to other potential clients. Not a good business man. Good points: Nice guy, does not make conversation. Bad points: rushed, distracted, focused on getting money today, not on good work and creating a returning customer for life. I will never return, despite good reviews from family. I have since found another salon who does not rush and takes the time to give me what i want and what makes sense. He clearly wants me to become a regular customer. Much happier now. read more

This used to be a place I would come for blow outs prior to Blow Me Away opening a mere block away and being infinitely more convenient and useful (for the same price). I generally have a rule that I won't pay more than 25 bucks for a blow out. I always kind of knew that you can't really be on a tight schedule and use this place because regardless what time your appointment, they are always ALWAYS running late and are never remotely polite about it. Additionally, if you make an appointment with a specific person, you probably will be blown out by someone else. Your requests basically mean nothing as they are completely devoid of any customer service awareness whatsoever. They used to be the only game in town for a cheap blow out but that is far from the case anymore so there's no reason to put up with this. I made the mistake of making an appointment there recently ( I was unable to get one at my usual place) for 5:00. I was waiting around until at 5:30 when I was STILL waiting and was going to be late, when I took my wet head and hightailed it next door (there's another salon right next door) where they did a decent job and were infinitely more polite (and for the same price). The customer base there is also beyond rude. It's like a combo of the rudest customers in addition to the most inconsiderate staff members who have joined forces to create the most unplesant salon experience possible. I wish I could give this place negative stars..the absolute WORST EXPERIENCE. Today was my wedding day and I went in last week for a trial. A guy blew out my hair and I made sure I had an appointment with him again this week so it looked the same. I walked in and they said "oh he's not available" even though he was standing right in front of me. So I had another girl blow my hair out and then she plugged in a curling iron and gave me some very simple curls. I went to leave (I had already paid at Makeup Queens next door) and they said I owed an additional $25..for what?? Because she used a curling iron and put three bobby pins in my hair.."time is money". I said if someone would have told me the curling iron she used was extra money I would have said no. The two owners basically harrassed me over $25..they would not take a credit card so they told me to go the the atm or write them a personal check. With that the male owner walked next door to the makeup place to see if they can give me $25 to pay him. I walked in there and he was so rude and disrespectful. He told me I was making a big deal over $25, however this had absolutely nothing to do with the money..it was the principle. They are so shady. The absolute rudest and most greedy people I have ever come in contact with. I don't like to wish bad things on people, but I sure hope that karma comes back to them tenfold. read more

Ok I was there to get a hair cut today. The girl who did my haircut started pulling my hair soooooo much. Cutting hair doesn't hurt much! I could feel she pulled my hair out of the root. I should of stopped her from what she is doing ! I told her to cut just a little bit like 1 inch. My hair was up to my back and when she was done it was up to my neck :( I just look super ugly for tomorrow's party. She messed up my hair. When she washed my hair, she made shirt wet! I was looking for a salon who provided a decent cut and color and Salon Ruby was the one. I have went to many hair salons in the past, and have had different hairstyles, but when i came to this salon i was so satisfied with how my hair came out. I will definitely be going back to this salon with the prices and excellent work that was done you cant beat that. I'm not sure who did my hair, but whoever did, did an excellent job. On top of the color and cut I had feather extensions done and they were done so beautifully all for a reasonable price. i left the salon totally satisfied. Would definitely recommend!!!! read more

I was very impressed with this Salon. They took the time to suggest a more suitable haircolor for my face and the haircolor they used is the best. They even colored my eyebrows to match and this is the first time I did not have any allergic reaction at all. The owner took time to check on me and make suggestions. So happy I finally tried this Great Neck salon, which I've been passing on my way to work for years already. Two weeks ago, I ran into a lady in the supermarket, tapped on her shoulder and asked her where she had her hair done, because it was stunning - highlighted but very multidimensional and healthy looking. She told me to go see Ruby and the rest is history. I'd been wanting to lighten my hair but was so afraid to take a chance on a new place. My old place had me looking like I spend nights on the Vegas strip, on a corner, in red patent leather boots. Ruby not only corrected that mess, but squeezed me in so I could start the New Year channeling my inner supermodel. My hair is now also multidimensional and classy. I will be back. Oh, and an honorable mention to the young and entertaining Lola, who applied my post-color glaze and did a great shampoo job. I initially thought that the salon did a good job, but after awhile, however, my perception of the salon, the work environment as well as the stylists have been changed drastically. I am proficient in Russian. One day when I got my hair washed, Ruby's mother, who is the receptionist, said to one of the people who washes hair in Russian, "I will throw you up against the wall and smash you if you do not get this job done right. You will not last here." Who speaks like that to a fellow coworker or to a subordinate in any work environment?! That's ludicrous!! This indicates that Ruby has no management skills whatsoever to handle his employees' mouths and actions. I always wondered from this encounter how anyone can last in this salon. I also do not like the fact that the stylists speak to one another in Russian and in a yelling manner about their clients. That's utterly unprofessional!! I usually go to Salon Ruby for quick blowouts. One day I decided to go to Laura for nice layers. She totally ruined my hair; one side was longer than the other side. After that experience, I have decided to go elsewhere for my blowouts and layers. Please take my experience into serious consideration. I am taking this to the Better Business Bureau! read more

THIS SALON IS BEYOND HORRIBLE AND DISGUSTING, the fact that my mom decides to go to try a change and believe she will come out happy was a big lie and mistake. The people in this management do not know how to blow hair or do a simple nice hairstyle. In addition, the owner decides to believe that you have to leave a $10 tip for a cut that isn't even classified as a hair or professional hair cut.. more like garbage or I can do it myself. The owner started chasing my mother for a few extra dollars because my mom voluntarily gave a $5 tip. When you call for an appt., the receptionist either cannot understand you, or she cannot hear you on the phone; pray that your appointment makes it into the book properly; don't expect a nice relaxing shampoo before your haircut; the staff members do not know how to give a decent shampoo......and if your appt is with the owner, Ruby, don't expect him to give you undivided attention while he's cutting your hair; he's multi-tasking while he's working on your hair; for example, he's yelling at the employees IN RUSSIAN for whatever reason, he's speaking Russian to his staff and Russian customers; he's walking away from you to take care of something in the salon, he's answering his cell phone and speaking IN RUSSIAN while he's working on your hair... I forgot that I was in America when I was in that salon; And then when he's finished cutting your hair, he has someone else blow your hair........and it took FOREVER and didn't even come out good; my layers were a mess! If I'm going to pay $50 for a haircut, I expect better treatment AND A MUCH BETTER HAIRCUT!! There are plenty of places to get a haircut for UNDER $50, and I'll be going to one of them in the future!! Good Luck if you do decide to go to this salon!
