Salon Sucré is located on the lower level of Essex Market. The lone employee on her laptop didn't acknowledge our presence for some time which made us momentarily consider if we should grab dessert elsewhere. She was nice enough when she finally assisted us but our first impression had already been tainted. We ordered: -- New York Apple: has a glossy red exterior but doesn't contain any apple flavors. The inside is chocolate mousse with (cherry?) jam in the middle. -- Rocher: I was amused by the idea of a super-sized Ferrero Roche. Enclosed in the chocolate shell is pastry cream & caramel with a bit of rice crisp texture coming from somewhere. -- Lemon Tart: more tart than sweet which is what you want from a citrus dessert, but overall quite average. The offerings are prettier than they are tasty. No plans to return, as we should have trusted our gut instinct to hightail it to a different spot the moment we arrived.

Cute dessert spot in Essex Market. There's little seats that are in the nicely decorated area of their shop (vs the general food court seating). We tried the "Rocher" which looks like a huge ferrero rocher. The mousse was fluffy and creamy. The inside had a variety of textures, some crunch, a caramel ball, etc. and the bottom has a cookie layer. It was overall very tasty but more sweet than rich in flavor and the shell was pretty difficult to break through which made the dish tactically hard to eat.

Amazing experience with Brenda. She taught my whole team how to cook pizza. Had a blast!! Absolutely recommend

We got the hazelnut cream puff to share and every part of the dessert was disappointing. The choux part was extremely dry and hard. Honestly, it tasted straight up stale. I usually try to finish my food- especially when it's $9 but I really could not with this one. It was probably one of the worst choux I had. The cream is usually my favorite. I was expecting a light whip. Unfortunately, it was a crazy heavy buttercream that didn't have much actual flavor. There was one hazelnut crunchy chocolate bit at the bottom of the cream that was decent but honestly just tasted like a halved ferrer rocher. Ultimately, for $9 you would expect more out of a dessert. I don't think I'd pay more than $2 for this one.

Good dessert in downstairs section of essex market shops. Separated sitting area and all their employees are super nice!

Lovely place to sit down and pause for a moment while enjoying a delicious sweet treat. Salon Sucré is a great addition to the Market Line below Essex Market. Their display case of colorful, meticulously crafted pastries is enough to catch your eye from across the room. I tried their signature New York Apple cake (made of chocolate mousse surrounding a flavorful cherry center) and the pumpkin walnut tart, and I really enjoyed both! I also love that they have their own seating area. I can't wait to come back, because that almond croissant in the display case was definitely calling my name!

I went to Salon Sucre recently for the first time and was a bit disappointed by the desserts (especially for their price - $9 each for a dessert smaller than the size of a fist). The desserts were beautiful but they were lacking in taste. We got the matcha lemon roll and the passion fruit and banana cake. The best part of the matcha lemon roll was the chocolate that was on top of it. The cake itself was on the dry end and was not very flavorful. The passion fruit and banana cake was ok. I liked it better than the matcha lemon roll but I was still underwhelmed.

Head down to the basement level of Essex Market and head towards the Asian market. Here's where you'll find salon sucre. They have desserts displayed in a small case. Seating is available at the bar (where you can order wine) or at one of the shared spaces with tables. Tried the NY apple dessert. Looks pretty but the taste was meh. Chocolate mousse was okay but the jelly/jam inside I didn't like. The best part is the chocolate biscuit type stand at the bottom. It looks pretty but not my fav. Almost $10 for the treat too! Pricey... they had a pre order matcha dessert for $15. Again pricey for a food court location.

Inside the Essex Market is this dessert/wine bar. It's a casual place and the choice of seatings are at the counter or at one of the cafe tables. The tarts can/should be shared. There are wine pairings and coffee but no cold drinks or ice. There is sparkling water though. The tarts are pretty but may not be the freshiest. The cake and mousse fillings were good but the lemon/lime tart we had had a dried out lime twist which should not have been offered because it was not appealing to see the dried slice on top of the tart like that. The curd was a little bitter, pithy in flavor too. I definitely am a citrus tart person but this tart of the four we had was the most lacking and a star deduction. The NY apple tart is actually just in the shape of an apple and there is no apple flavor involved in case that is what you're expecting. The filling is a chocolate mousse filling with a little bit of a berry or cherry jam center which was good but nothing special. An apple cake would have been a better idea inside that glossy apple exterior. The Rocher was a nod to the Ferrero Rocher confection and for those who want chocolate in the guise of a tart, this is should be your choice. My favorite was the passion fruit banana cake tart which had distinct passion fruit mousse and banana cake flavors. The papaya chunks though did not add anything except color. Overall, this a cute dessert place and concept but the quality should be checked and non-alcoholic drink offerings should be expanded. We were given some gratis macarons and truffles which was a nice service gesture.

Came across this little shop in the basement of Essex Market. It's super cute and the baked goods are amazing! Will definitely come back for more!

Wow East Village! You have yourself a gem with Rake Wine Bar! We were waiting for our dinner…read morereservations and decided to stop in here for a pre-dinner drink and bite. I am SO glad we did. The vibe drew us in, they had great music bumpin from the outside, it looked lively and welcoming. Let me tell you- I would have skipped dinner and just stayed here all evening if it was my choice! But alas, my husband wanted a bit more to eat. But let me tell you- their knowledge of wine is PRISTINE! I can't tell you what white wine we had but they captured our tastes perfectly. We also shared a bruschetta and it was deliciouso! I love how friendly the staff was here and how unpretentious it all was. Next time we are in NYC- we will definitely make a point to come visit Rake!

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

The ssam lettuce wraps were good, though they read a little more like Jewish brisket with a spicy bean sauce than what I expected from a Korean lettuce wrap. Still tasty, just a different vibe. Honestly, this would've been a 5-star meal if I didn't leave with three mosquito bites. Great food, great service, great wine -- just maybe bring bug spray.

The bar is very scenic so you will definitely feel like you are getting the full dining experience. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Make reservations for peak dining times in the evenings and on weekends. Many people walked in without reservations and were seated right away on Saturday evenings. Highly recommend trying their original cocktails ($18). We tried the flower child and the harvest moon. Both were tasty. I would get harvest moon again and again. Perfect balance of Tart, sweet refreshing and strong. Menu items change seasonally so it's delightful to try something new every time you visit. $21 potato croquettes were highly disappointing. Everyone recommended them highly, but I could not understand why. For such price, three tiny balls of fried potato should've been mind blowing, but they were underwhelming and forgettable at best. Skip. $24 giant ricotta stuffed raviolo was delightful. Such soothing comfort food. If I could eat just this, I would be happy. $26 fresh crudo was refreshing and light. Delicious cold broth/juice soup in which it was served. $32 Bronzino with mussels in a broth was superb. Light, crispy, and delicate. Would eat this dish for dinner Any night of the day. Balanced flavor profile. Could suit anyone who is picky about their food. $30 lamb neck was a solid dish. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and delicate and flavorful on the inside. Wish the portion was a bit bigger, especially the sides. $38 duck confit was highly advertised, however, it was underwhelming and the least stand out dish. It was solid, but nothing that I would order again or recommend. The duck was on the dry side. Definitely not enough sauce. The cabbage and the cabbage salad were good. Crispy and refreshing. The duck was not the star of this dish. $13 chocolate mousse with strawberry coulis was surprisingly delightful. So light and balanced. Not sweet, but just right to finish a meal. I could eat this dessert every day after every single meal. So simple, yet it hit the spot. Service is very fast and efficient. One of our readers was superb and provided stellar recommendations. Another waiter (young and inexperienced) was very shy and his energy felt very stifling.
