Like many others, I stumbled upon The Ex salon on Yelp when I was looking for a place that understands hair color. I was excited to see many great reviews on Tracy, so I booked with her, and girl, she delivered!!! I asked for a half and half dye because I got my hair done like that many months ago in Taiwan, and as soon as I described it to Tracy, she understood exactly what I wanted and needed. She suggested that I go darker on the top (because initially I had it in a lighter brown) so that my bottom red will stand out more, and I'm so glad I listened to her. It's been a few weeks since Tracy did my hair, and I still love it so much! The best part, too, was that she was so fast and efficient, I was in and out under 1.5 hours. Went to ex salon again to get my roots touched up and decided to go from blonde to titanium silver. As always, the staff is super kind and tries to understand the vision with you. My titanium hair will eventually fade and Tracy provided me with upkeep advice on how to maintain my hair, as well as the proper hair care routine. I also got a keratin treatment. My hair was so dry and tangled and this treatment makes my hair feel so soft and shiny. This is my third time back with the ex salon and I love the staff. My experience at Ex Salon has been nothing but positive. My 8 year old daughter needed a haircut and we walked in after finding positive reviews on Yelp. Quincy is our new go to stylist. Since she did such a great job with my daughter, I made an appointment for myself. The salon is clean, the staff is friendly and seem to all get along which is great! Quincy made sure we took time in our consultation to be clear about expectations and we discussed what would work and she gave recommendations. Response to Tracy: It's obvious from the photos the tone/match is not only wrong , but patch work-- everyone can see it except you. I mentioned it several times while I was there. I told you to keep the color and fix the roots. You fixed it by making all my hair a different color based on your desire, not following a simple ask to fix the roots. You then asked me to wash out the blue and left me with wet hair. Complete lack of professionalism and proper hair skills right there. I would have liked you to own you made multiple mistakes that result in a poor transformation and refund. I never asked for tie dye work by Tracy. Review for Tracy (owner). Come here to be gaslighted, and given patchy hair treatment that ages you by decades. Review: I returned to this salon with clear photos and instructions for a refresh. Despite confirming exactly what I wanted and what I did not want, the stylist repeatedly did what she wanted instead of following my requests. Problems: - Asked for face framing color , she claims there's no such thing. She does hair and calls it skunk hair and finally I feel like a skunk after this salon visit! - Did not follow the photos/instructions; result was not what I asked for. - Patchy, uneven color with a very obvious root line and mismatched tones (top roots over-processed orange/white, blue/white patches in places, lower lengths a different brown). - Multiple attempts to "fix" it made it worse -- advice to "wash it out" didn't help and she was unaware of how to do a corrective lift/blend the roots needed. - Stylist used distraction tactics (styling/curling, false compliments and small talk) after I raised concerns instead of addressing the issue. - Poor application and protection during coloring (bleach and product got on my skin/clothes). - Felt gaslit when I showed photos and explained the problem; I was dismissed rather than offered a transparent, professional correction. - I returned for a correction and wasn't charged (which signaled she knew it was her mistake), but the correction still left patchy, mismatched color and visible damage. She refused to give a refund. - Other clients in front of me clearly weren't happy with their cut/color but were placated with compliments and conversation instead of real attempts to fix services. Staff seem to deflect rather than genuinely try to make clients happy (they will distract you into another conversation and their only solution is to straighten/curl hair so you don't see the errors!) - I recommended this salon for a bridal style and the bride reported being mistreated and scolded. - There is a lot of attitude and very little integrity or skill to back it up. - Dirty and unkept What I wanted: an even, blended color consistent with my photos and a correction that addressed the roots only (leave the lengths I liked alone). Instead I left embarrassed, with bluish white hair and complete loss of faith in the salon's skills, and have to pay another salon to correct it. Suggested resolution: refund or a proper corrective appointment (not just straightening my hair LOL). I'm posting photos as proof of the patchy, mismatched results. Consider this a strong warning to others -- I will trust my instincts on first go and never return to this rightfully named EX salon. read more

Made an appointment online for hair transformation as I'm recently moving on from a past relationship. Best way to heal is to beautify yourself and Tracy helped me heal. I did a last minute appointment to get a haircut on a Saturday evening and I was helped by Quincy. She did an amazing job at cutting my hair and made sure I knew that my hair is going to look short from the front considering how I want medium layers and V shape haircut. I also wanted to keep the length of my hair as well. The following day I came in again to get a color correction and get it dyed the color I want. I have gone to a different salon before and the color that I got was not what I wanted and it looked really brassy and orange so I decided to box dye my hair and everything looked uneven. The person there asked if I can come back tomorrow or wait for an hour for a higher price. First time here. Picked them due to the photos posted as representation of the staff's work. Goal: ash blonde/brown balayage Photo taken with Natural light during sunset golden hour. This would affect how the results appear in the camera. Tony did an amazing job. He cut my hair exactly the way I requested. Color did not turn out exactly what matched the photo but a big contributor is my hair as well as the lighting. It's important to keep in mind that color changes are very challenging depending on your original hair health, thickness, color and texture. My natural hair has a lot of warm tones to it so it tends to have lots of yellow and red pigments when lightened. I have been to 4-5 different colorists/hairdressers prior to this visit and it has been very difficult to turn my hair into an ash shade. Part of the artistry that we need to keep in mind as customers is that our hairdressers apply the knowledge of chemistry/colors concurrently with managing the health condition of our hair. Tony is very friendly, kind, thoughtful and is really fun to talk with. He is very detail oriented and thorough in his work with every step. Tony is very passionate about his work and that shows through his effort in giving his best to the process. My hair was initially bleached, followed by a second shorter bleach session due to my hair not being lightened enough, then the color depositing/toning step, followed by a root melt to blend the roots to the newly lightened hair color. In other lighting environments such as indoors or in the car, the color definitely shows more of a ash brown/blonde. WhOoo. Although the process was long (which was expected, and happens at any salon for such a request :9), Tony was very thoughtful to offer beverages and snacks, and to check in if I was doing ok. Went in after work on a weekday on time 2 months ago. Made an appt before hand but still have to wait to get my turn for another 15 mins+. Hair wash was super fast and very rushed. When it came down to the haircut, it was really fast too. I asked for layers and a trim and more volume on the crown of my head. When it was my turn to evaluate my haircut I asked for more volume on the crown of my head so it can lighter as I have alot of hair. The hairstylist turned me down and said my layers are already short so if I trim anymore it will be really short. I have went to other salons and they were able to achieve that so why can I get it here? I didn't argue and accepted it but i didn't think I got a good haircut, hair felt heavy and the layers weren't really layered well. Haircut was start at 75+ but she charged me 85 and I was nice to tip her too. The whole appt from the point I went into the salon to the point I left, it was 45-50 mins and I waited for my turn for about 15-20 mins. During that time there was only one person trying to do everything and when another person came in, my haircut was rushed. Overall nice salon but pricey haircut and it wasn't up to par imo and I don't think I will come back. read more

I've been getting the same asymmetrical haircut for a few years now, and I've always been distressed that it was a little shorter than I wanted it -- but when I brought in my photos and explained what I was hoping for, Tracy was the first stylist to actually explain what the issue was! And she helped me find a variant of it that's as close as possible to my original vision and actually looks really nice for a LOT longer than the original cut!
