Stopped by Sal's after a long day and it was just what we needed! Ordered a supreme pizza and garlic and herb wings. Everything was delicious! Just had a tasty pizza and spaghetti. The spaghetti in particular was great, loads of noodles and just the right amount of sauce with oodles of cheese. The pizza had great flavor. We had meatball, onion and peppers. The crust is thinnish. And the price wasn't bad at all compared to other OBX places. Would eat here again. read more

There are a lot of pizza places to chose from in nags head and I am so glad I picked this one for our dinner tonight. We came the day after 4th of July at about 730 and it was very busy as expected. We were told it would be about a 45 min wait for our food which was fine. They have a little shop next door that you can walk around in with gelato that is fantastic with a little corner you can sit in and read comic books or listen to records. The staff was all extremely nice and helpful. We ordered our food to go and only had about a 5 min drive home and the pizza was a bit on the cooler side so that was the only reason for the one star detraction. The pizza had really great flavor but the cheese was no longer stringy because it had cooled off. I think that if the pizza was fresh out it would have been incredible. We also ordered pasta which is why I'm guessing the pizza was colder, I think the pizza got done first. I had the baked penne Parmesan and it was bomb.com! It was cheesy and magnificent. It also came with garlic knots that were soft and very garlicky! YUM! We also got some cannoli which were delicious also! Highly recommend! read more

The best pizza I've had on the outer banks, and I've tried them all for better or worse. After living in NYC for a bit I am a fan of this style of pizza, and Sal's is on point, being fairly authentic for the NYC style. Inside, the restaurant itself has a great vibe for being located in a strip mall, one half of the spot is the restaurant proper, and the other is a pool hall/arcade. I had a slice and wings the first time here, it was decent! Second time I got a large pie with my family and we enjoyed it. It was so good we had to eat there two nights in a row. We were staying at the Travelodge during July 4th weekend and social distancing monitory. We called out and picked up. I had Chicken Parm sub and the better half had pasta with parmesan sauce with garlic knots. He said it was really good. They had a table out front when you arrived they brought it out and placed on the table a nice smooth operation. No contact what do ever. We ordered again the next night I ordered the dam thing it's really good. The better half had Eggplant Parm on a bed of pasta. Hugh serving... he said it was absolutely delicious. I was here the other night but arrived 25 min before closing and they wouldn't seat us.. I was hungry and irritated. Gave them another try and actually spoke with the owner.. He said yes you were in the other night.. I've been coming in every am at 10 am and not leaving till 10 pm they are preparing 100 plus pizza dough in the am. With little to no staff. Friday night was food delivery night because no one felt like going anywhere or making anything. We chose a place called Sal's because it sounded very New York style. It was going to be 45 min contact-less delivery and G was nice enough to place the order. 3 of the group split a pepperoni pizza; I got penne alfredo with shrimp except they were out of shrimp, so it was plain pasta. I also wanted a side of tots with cheese, which turned out to be an appetizer of tots instead because they wouldn't put cheese on the side size. The cheese was just melted mozzy and not the gooey pump cheese I was hoping for, so they were all stuck together. There were way too many, and also too salty. Oh well. C had his own pizza with spinach, garlic, and prosciutto on it. D also got a small order of bbq wings which he really liked. Lazy dinner was mostly a hit. I appreciated being able to recycle my pasta container. Also the 3 garlic knots that came with my meal were pretty tasty. read more

I am from New Haven CT (which is better then NY pizza) and this is not the even close. It wasn't bad but shouldn't be called NY style. Crust was not crispy and the center was not fully cooked which held me back from giving it a better score....maybe a 3 at best....I should have known better than to try a pizza in a mid Atlantic state but wanted to give it a shot from seeing all the yelp scores.... It was on the pricey side for what you get, the staff was friendly but the manager or owner was not. read more

Would give it 0 stars if allowed. Ordered a large supreme pizza with half only pepperoni (for the kids) and was charged 27$ A supreme pizza costs 22$! We were told "it is policy to charge per topping". Do NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. read more

I was really craving pizza on our trip to the outer banks, so my mom and I stopped by sal's and ordered a large regular pizza. It came out quick and looked great. In our excitement, we covered the pizza in Parmesan cheese and dug in. About a slice in my mom stops in horror--there was a few big pieces of mold in the Parmesan cheese. I thought it tasted funny the whole time. We were too grossed out to even eat any more. The waiter seemed like he didn't speak very good English, but still, he understood us. We got no drink refills the whole time we were there, no apology for the moldy cheese nightmare, nothing. We just left. Definitely will not be going there ever again. read more

Ordered a cheese pizza and a sub, they gave me a pepperoni and I didn't notice until I got back to the hotel. I even ask if it was cheese as I came in to pick it up. It was an overcast, rainy, and dreary OBX summer day. Oh, the horror! Accordingly, the beaches were empty and every restaurant on the strip was packed. Dismayed at the thought of resorting to a fast food lunch due to long seating lines we spotted Sal's "Famous" New York Pizza. We even met Sal himself, who recently bought the whole strip mall and is very personable. Sorry, Sal, we both may be from New York but your pizza sure ain't! Good cheese and good sauce but, bleh, the dough was chalky. Your calzone was unremarkable. We ordered two pizzas and the dough was the same all around. I did like that your dough was notably thin, but the crust ends were somewhat uncooked and not even palatable. Crusts should be airy and crispy to claim NY style. I just really enjoy eating a good crust off a slice and it was totally disappointing. There was a familiar New York City pizzeria ambiance, though, with mirrored walls and ovens behind the front counter. Strange separate dance floor room. Also there's a third arcade game room with 2 pool tables that were in good shape. Bathrooms dingy. Best thing about the meal was the immediate seating, which I'll chalk up to the business being new and off the main road. Unfortunately I'll have to compare the other local pizzerias first before I return to eat here. read more

Hidden gem! We ordered the shrimp Parmesan pasta and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The gremolata linguine complemented the big crispy shrimp and tasty marinara sauce perfectly. We got a ny style pizza and tater tots.the pizza was nice and crispy. Even a few bubbles in the crust,which I love. Tater tots came with cheese and bacon and a side of ranch. Yummy. A great place right by where we were staying so it was a good choice. We will visit again next year. read more

This place has the most amazing customer service. We were told it was going to be a thirty minute wait right off the back. They accidentally put tomatoes on my boyfriends sandwich and instead of just leaving it, they told us about it and fixed it. We come to the outerbanks every summer and always try different pizza joints..they've all been average or poor. Sal's is ABOVE AVERAGE..We really enjoyed it. If you're just going for pizza, this place is amazing. The pizza was delicious. The only reason for 4 stars: They seem to be a newer restaurant so the menu isn't massive. They don't serve their pasta At lunch and they don't have a kids menu at all. (No French fries or chicken or milk on the menu at all) they don't even have a steak & cheese sub on the menu. (My go to besides Pizza) We thought about trying a sandwich and pizza to split but when we saw they didn't have many choices we just stuck to the pizza.
