Went to pick up a pizza (love their pies). Had to sign a credit card receipt with a dirty sticky pen. I called this morning to speak to the owner or manager and a young girl took my call. She said they are now cleaning their pens. First of all most stores won't ask for a signature under $20.00 and especially now with the virus it's not something I want to touch. Sal's called the police on my 13 year old for their mistake! They delivered food by confirming our address and asked him to sign for food while I wasn't home. Two hours later, there were 3 police cars at my house asking for $29 for the food that was delivered by mistake to the wrong address! Why would you allow a 13 year old to sign a credit card slip and then not even give him a copy? I used to only go to Sals for pizza but never ever again!! Shame on you Sal's!! Haven't been to Sal's in a bit. Always hunting for that Queens pizza.I decided to give it another shot. Big mistake. I was better off staying home and putting jar sauce on a english muffin with a bit of processed cheese! They make a horrible excuse for a pizza there.Your better off going to the Carmel bowling alley and getting a frozen slice out of their snack bar toaster. And unfriendly? The girl at the counter with the crazy arm sleeve tattoo could not have been more rude. I have been treated better at Department of the motor vehicles. I wouldn't mind spending $16.50 for something worth eating but for that price your getting nothing but nausea. I've seen bicycle training wheels bigger then that. I gave one star because I could not give less. My company does a ton of business with Sals, but when I asked to use my credit card for an order someone else was kind enough to pick up they denied me! Why? I don't really know but the girl on the phone was less than cordial. I will never give these people my business again! Plus the pizza is better across the street! Gotta love Sals! This place makes some of the best pizzas in town. One thing people need to be aware of is this is probably the busiest and most popular pizza place in the area, so sometimes their demands are too high, leading to your food taking longer if you have it delivered. My family an I just pick up the pizza since it's done in half the time. I would highly recommend adding a side of their ranch dressing, it tastes so good with their pizza! We are a fairly large business in the area and order from Sals weekly. ($100+/week) Over the last few weeks the customer service here has been horrendous! We place the order in advance and several times it's been over 45 minutes late. We have a few food allergies and they are continuously disregarded after we order certain dishes. The orders are never replaced or refunded. There's never an apology. The worst is the delivery boy. The attitude he has is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. When made aware that there was an allergen in one of the dishes, he gave a horribly rude response and left. When the manager was spoken to about the on going rudeness, he was so unsympathetic that we paid for a dish that would make someone sick! He promised that the delivery boy would be reprimanded, but I won't hold my breath. Sal's just lost huge business. read more

THAT my friends was the most blah, unexciting pizza I've ever tasted...first time, last time. I heard this pizzeria has been there for a very long time which means way back when, they may have made a decent pie but the passion has obviously died. Yuck sauce, mediocre cheese with the crust having no flavor at all. No smiles, no thank you from the employees and the place looked very dirty behind the counter where the food is made. Rude Dude at counter! Miserable guy with pizza boxes piled up in front of me on counter, ridiculous, slide them over to the end so I can pay. Seems like unhappy family running it or just unhappy coworkers who dont really wanna b there. Pizza was not worth the treatment when theres so many other places to go to. Keep driving, dont turn in or just get KFC! Coming from Yonkers, and Mamaroneck, with award winning places like Sal's on Mamak ave, u learn what works. Walked in with my kids and they guy behind the counter was eating a slice of pizza while watching a video on his phone. Nice customer service. I then asked for a calzone and he puts it in the microwave. Who microwaves a calzone. Omg. Your a pizzeria use the oven. A consistent favorite. Best chicken cutlets around- great on the Sals salad. What's better than blue cheese, cranberries, walnuts and awesome balsamic dressing! I recently discovered the Chicken a la Sal- amazing! Grilled chicken chopped up with sundries tomatoes and broccoli with garlic and oil. This will be my alternate worth the salad now. read more

This place still sucks, and I think it's gotten more expensive. Last week, we had a bunch of errands to run around dinner time and stopped in for a slice just to eat something quickly. I'm not sure how three slices (plain for my daughter, one topping each for my husband & I) and two soda cans cost $19.75! And it def wasn't worth the money either. We've lived in Carmel for a year and since we moved here have been loyal customers of Sal's. Not the best pizza or food in town, but pretty good and generally consistent delivery. This last order was a debacle and lost us as customers. We ordered about $80 worth of food and they told us 45 mins. An hour later we called. They said they were backed up and the driver had not left yet. No apology no offer of anything, just deal with it. When the driver finally showed up, an hour 40 after we ordered he was somewhat apologetic but more seemed like he wanted to get out of Dodge. The food was luke warm to cold and to top it all off, they forgot my daughter's food! Called to tell them to take it off and they seemed unwilling, offering only a credit for next time. We said there will be no next time and they need to take it off the charge. They said OK and promptly hung up! I get things happen and you are going to have a bad night. I don't like to let one bad experience outweigh history, but the utter lack of customer service for a loyal customer (I've likely spent thousands of dollars in take out here in a year) is too much. There are far too many options around to put up with this. Stay far away from this restaurant that places no value on their customers. read more

I started going here about a month ago and the pizza was pretty good until one day the regular slices I got were half cooked at best. Not good to eat half baked dough. Next time I tried the Sicilian and it was great for a few trips back but then last week the Sicilian was half cooked. The dough barely had any bubbles in it and it was literally wet. It was a long way from being anything like bread. Absolutely disgusting! Today I gave them one more chance and was served the same crap. So- I went back spoke to the owner and he told me I should ask for it well done. I explained to him the pizza need not be well done, just fully cooked. He then started talking back to me. Last week received a pizza where the cheese was lumpy on top and looks like cottage cheese which didn't sit well digestably. After reading the reviews I had to check to make sure it was Sal's pizza on Rt 6 in Carmel they were writing about.! I am a very discriminating foodie and was very surprised on my first trip to Sal's and the subsequent 50 haven't disappointed either! I have tried different pizzas and lots of pasta dishes that were very good and authentic Italian . Tonight I am planning to have pasta w/ Gorgonzola and peas and can't resist their decadent garlic bread. Their red sauces are excellent , truly rich, excellently seasoned tomatoes that are wonderful on any pasta or pizza. I'd give them a 5 rating but want them to continue to update their menu and give us more examples of their wonderful Italian cooking! read more

The pizza was very good. Beware of the other menu items. The mozzarella sticks were cheap and over cooked. The penne a la vodka was strange. The sauce was overwhelmed by the smokey bacon making it taste like a barbecue dish. The garlic bread was soaked in oil and not for everyone. The food at Sal's is great! Hands down the best pizza in Weschester/Putnam county. I am a normal customer there and I have yet to have a single bad experience. Not great...the house dressing is very good, but the chicken in their grilled chicken salad tastes like the "ready made" stuff in the grocery store deli case rather than fresh. Pizza is average, chicken and eggplant parm are just "ok." The francese sauce had an off taste, almost like it belonged in a Chinese place. I had moved up here from the city and was looking for a good Pizza place as my spot up here. I picked this place because they were local and somewhat decent in pizza. Here is why they get two stars, and I am looking for a new pizza place. My experience and what I have to say about some of the other comments. 1. I called and ordered a Large Pie, a new or different person taking orders on the phone says takes my order and says 45-1 hour (always the case btw) and hangs up. I call him back and I tell him " ahhh...you hung up and I wanted to pay by credit card." Okay, so now my food comes (delivery guys NEVER have a pen for you to sign). I am on the phone take it, he leaves and I realize it's a small pie (not enough slices. I call back and tell him I ordered a large pie and he says, I heard you say small pie. I said, I NEVER order a small pie, it's not enough for my family. He says "okay"- in his careless tone. I said, so now I have to make a special trip to get 2 slices?! He said, "ok". I can't deal with dumb -ish like that. 2. Confirmed: They do act funny about the credit card payments. Before I knew they took credit card payments over the phone. My husband was running errands across the street and went in there to place an order to deliver to our house while he was out. He tried to pay by credit card in person and they said they could only accept cash because it's a delivery order. He was annoyed because he had to travel to a bank to get cash. When asked why they said, how do we know this is not fraud...LOL. AND the woman had an attitude. 3. Confirmed: The older woman that worked the counter (have not seen her in a while-maybe they fired her). She was from the city too, but man what a damn nasty attitude (there is a difference). That almost made me not want to deal with the establishment because you don't want to give your money to people with an attitude like that for no reason at all. 4. Confirmed: Expensive! I had an older menu from maybe a year or so ago and the small pie was $12.00 now it is $12.75. There is better pizza out there I would pay for without the mess up's and attitudes. The woman that took my order was the rudest person I have ever heard in charge of answering phones (and she got the order wrong) She had a terrible tone of voice. She kept cutting me off and saying "Is that all?" in a frustrated voice. She flat out refused to answer a simple question I had about the menu. I told her my name for the creditcard and attempted to spell it for her and she like yelled "I know how to spell!" but my last name isn't spelled how it sounds so i had to be like "im sorry to offend you im sure can spell its just that my last name is spelled unconventionally" and then she was like "FINE! How do you spell it." It was like I was getting punked. Unless she like just had a recent death in the family or something I think she needs like help, professional help.
