The slices were generous- had the veggie and it was tasty. This was our first trip to Cooperstown. We were surprised by how packed the restaurants all were at 11:30 a.m. I would not say that the service at Sal's was good. We weren't helped when we noticed that there wasn't any seating (we were planning to just eat in the car or on a bench). One of the workers was pretty upset about us bringing Service Dogs inside (which is legal). Another offered water for the dogs, but never actually brought it. Then it took over ten minutes to get the food brought out to the back patio seating. Definitely not a service first vibe, more like "you should be happy that we are serving you." read more

Came here for a quick lunch after touring the museum. Lots of pizza choices, as well as garlic knots. Typical counter service; order and pay at the counter and they'll heat up your order and bring it out to you. My husband and I chose a few slices of pizza with mushrooms, and some garlic knots. Crust was thin, crispy and the amount of cheese and sauce was perfect ( I miss REAL NY pizza :() The garlic knots weren't too greasy like in other places, and the accompanying marinara sauce was incredible. There are tons of baseball related plaques on the wall, and a board to trade your team pin ( tournament teams/ clinics/ camps) for a garlic knots-- cool idea!!! There's even a back patio which looked awesome... The bill for 4 slices, 3 garlic knots and a bottle of coke was $29. read more

We are here in the off season learning about baseball. Stepped away to find a bite to eat and found Sals. It appears to be one of the only places open in the off season. With that being said we ordered a large chicken bacon ranch pizza and it was delicious. The service was excellent and friendly. The food is very good don't get me wrong but the service is god awful. The young girl with the tattoos on her face and neck argued with me about what slice of pizza I ordered after bringing me the wrong one. I was super nice and took the pizza back to the counter and she said "ok well you ordered a cheese pizza and Hawaiian pizza" when I ordered cheese and lasagna pizza. No big deal, but the service and attitude could've been better. Also they do not wear gloves at all i noticed, they just touch food with their bare hands. We needed a quick lunch and this did do that. We got a couple of slices of pepperoni which didn't take too long to heat up. Taste-wise, it was fine, nothing special. It had very thin crust, and the combo of table spices did help elevate it. For what we needed quick/cheap/easy for a group, it did that, but I don't think the pizza was high quality enough I would recommend ordering a whole pie unless it was the only option around. We were in town for Cooperstown and visited the hall of fame on 7/2. Wanted to grab a bite to eat with our families, originally they had online ordering available so we tried to place an order that way and it declined, so we called ahead (due to schedule changes that were out of our control due to the weather.) I'm assuming it was Sal I spoke with and he was incredibly rude. He went on and on about what an inconvenience and how difficult we were to call in the orders for the family separately from the team. He proceeded to sigh and scold people in our group who were coming in to give him business! Once we arrived and were eating, he continued to complain to other customers about us while we were there. Unprofessional doesn't even cover it. This is a tourist town. The economy is rough right now. If you're looking to come with a large party, enjoy some downtime together and support a local small business- this wasn't the place. Do better, Sal. read more

Came to Cooperstown for a few days to relax and enjoy the wintery vibes, went into Sals to grab a slice and asked if the slice with chicken had balsamic glaze on it, the wonderful guy making pizza said its was bbq sauce and I would love it, so we got that slice and a plain one. Both gentlemen we spoke with were great, very friendly and a nice clean pizzeria. I didn't get the pizza makers name but he then told me he was going to make me a slice with balsamic glaze and chicken cutlet. OM freaking gosh, this was one of the best slices of pizza I have eaten, and I love pizza​!! Not only thick and so crispy, but the chicken and balsamic danced in my mouth. It was so delicious, if you are in Cooperstown, stop by Sal's and order a chicken cutlet and balsamic glaze slice, you will be so happy, thanks again guys. I first wrote a 5 star review in 2017, and a few years since. Sal's has always been a highlight for our Cooperstown trips for 15+ years. This weekend = disappointment. MASSIVE disappointment. We won't come back. Their crust now is 1/3 the pizza. Too doughy, and thus not true NY pizza. Their pizza sauce is also now really bland. I ate a single slice and then said "meh, not worth eating more calories here because this pizza sucks". And every time before, I ate at least 4 slices of a large pizza. This visit almost ruined our trip to Cooperstown. It had been such an expected highlight, but now this is a crappy version of what it used to be under former management. Luckily we found another Cooperstown restaurant that satisfied us, or we wouldn't eat in town anymore. Sal's: your founder would be so sad to see what you've become. PS a full pizza charges $2.50 a slice. Your slices are $4.49. So you're ripping off your customer base. Raping your customers financially is not how you run a business. read more

After we visited the Baseball Hall of Fame, we came to Sal's for a late lunch. The pizza was OK. I wouldn't say it was outstanding, but it was decent. I like that they have a lot of options on their menu including subs, burgers, pasta, and more. We asked them to remove the basil or seasoning bits from the spaghetti, but when they brought it out, it had not been removed, so we had to wait at least another 20 minutes for that plate to come back, which was not ideal. Overall, I would probably look for another place if I were to return to the area, but options were slim in between the lunch and dinner hours. read more

Hands down some of the best pizza I have ever eaten - including pizza in NYC, Chicago, and Italy! It is crispy on the bottom, soft dough inside, just the right mix of toppings on top. Try the Sal's Special and the Lasagna Pizza. The garlic knots richly deserve their moniker of "world famous." Service is fast and friendly. Employees are funny. An easy settings for a quick family stop with plenty of long booths. After a visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame, this is an easy stop for a hungry family. read more

After an awesome day we craved a good slice of pizza and Sal's didn't disappoint. We ordered half pepperoni and half bbq chicken both were delicious. Very friend staff and tons of tables that were clean. While your order is being taken you can't help but love the aroma and look at the other pizzas on display. Not too far from Double Day Field. When we went the hours had been extended but usually closes early. Overall a solid choice when in Cooperstown. read more

Your price didn't double. It only rose 90%. I paid $12.51 for my 2 slices and soda, as opposed to the $6.50 I paid previously. So, I fell $.49 short of being totally accurate. I'd have posted the line from my credit card statement showing it, but I didn't want to embarrass you. I WILL post it if you'd like to see it. Lame. This town has to have better options. Food is mediocre. The woman at the register was lazy and unhelpful. I had ordered a sprite and when she learned that she'd have to go downstairs to get a new pack she said "I'll have to go downstairs" and I said "okay no worries" and she proceeded to stare at me until I said "okay I can have a Sprite Zero instead." I was going to give them 3 stars but removed one especially for her. She was at least not polite. They allegedly have a cauliflower crust but it isn't on the menu. Food is lame It was really hot in there so I ended up needing to sit in the museum for a bit just to cool down bc I was lightheaded (granted I have MS so I'm especially sensitive to heat.) For what it is, it's perfect. An honest to goodness pizzeria that serves greasy, very big and super tasty pizzas and garlic knots in a simple, unpretentious setting. It's something we really appreciated. Our food was a slight wait because of the huge crowds but it came piping hot. No one had or asked for silverware. Here, you dig in with your hands! The taste of Sal's pizza is great and easily beats NY Pizzeria up the road. The quality and cost, however, make it a complete joke and not worth it. At all. We are locals, but only order in every few months. We had Sal's once before and enjoyed our meal. They sold us on the "softball sized" garlic knots ($1 each), which were dry and lacked garlic or any kind seasoning. Don't bother with them! What good is a large wad of dough with no flavor? We didn't get knots this time, but instead ordered a large one topping pie (half pepperoni and half sausage). My husband went in to get the pizza with a $23 cash. Easily enough, right? Wrong. Our one topping pizza came to $25! We have never paid anything even close to that for a circle of dough with some sauce and cheese. Unbelievable. Maybe that's why the place was dead on Saturday night? Once we got home and opened the box, we found that they CUT OFF THE CRUST to fit the pie in the box. Why would they do this?? Usually the crust just gets folded up inside the box... you don't cut it off! We literally cannot hold our slices to eat them! In addition to that, they also didn't put the topping across the whole pie.. at least one slice basically has only cheese. At $3 a topping, I expect the topping is spread on every slice. When we lifted the almost-toppingless slice, it was cut through the center?! The quality and price of this pizza is horrendous. They should be embarrassed and don't deserve customers. Imagine what their pies look like if they actually have other customers to serve? They have lost us as customers. Never again. read more

Having left the area over a decade ago, the one thing I missed about this area was the pizza. This being the case, I decided to stop at this pizzeria which I had first eaten at in the early 2000s. The pizza crust is just perfect, the place was clean, and the prices were reasonable. There are other pizzerias in the area which are cheaper and staff at some of these establishments are friendlier, but for this restaurants location right next to the Baseball HOF and main street, this place is highly recommended! read more

Great location for a pizza spot. Stop by for a quick slice if you're in the area. Tons of seating inside, booth style. They have a large outside space with picnic table in the back, and a huge tent/ tarp over most of it. Pretty big variety of pies you can chose from, as well as different drinks in the cooler. Food has always been fresh when I've ordered, specialty slices are always exciting. Can't go wrong with just picking up a pie to bring home after a busy day. It was very reasonable with plain cheese being $2 a slice and special slices being $3. The pizza was good, not great. I like my crust crisper. I am normally a purist and never get Chicken BBQ pizza but I tasted my son's and the sauce had a nice flavor so I got a slice and it was good. Husband and 13 year old tried a lasagne slice which had ricotta and meat. This is a comfortable family pizzeria. The food is excellent, and the customer service is over the moon! We stopped in for lunch back in May before visiting my stepfather, who was in rehab and could not eat solid food. He requested pizza (which had to be pureed). When we asked for it, the server thought they didn't have the equipment to do that. Soon after, she returned and said the chef had told her they would try it. After a couple of attempts, it was PERFECT consistency. My step-father LOVED this treat! I cannot say enough about the service we received that day. Went in there today after visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame. The guy behind the counter was very nice and the slices were great. The bottom crust was crunchy and the rest of the crust was soft with that slight crunch on the top. The chicken bacon ranch slice I had was amazing. I'm so glad I tried it. Right down the street from the Baseball HOF. The restaurant is massive with a lot of indoor tables and a back deck outside with additional seating. Their menu was great with a lot of different pizza options and their service was very friendly (they also sell beer which is a plus) I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with lettuce and tomato. It took a little while to come out, probably from the large crowd that came after visiting the HOF, but the wrap was excellent and they didn't overload it with buffalo sauce or blue cheese. read more
