I am sitting here at Sal's looking for my prior review and strange though it be, it appears I have never reviewed it. How can that be? Great thin crust AND Sicilian pizza, fresh salads, perfectly cooked pasta, and the best home style parmesans around. Sal cooks it all himself and looks like he was born to be in a kitchen. 5 booths and a few tables, usually filled with families. Many regulars since Sal seems to know them all. A little over a dozen "gourmet" pizzas or build your own. Delicious fresh salads, stuffed bread, paninis, calzones, subs, and "homemade dinners." I've sampled much of the menu and loved it all. I can't speak for the pizza but I can speak for the service and dinners. I had the eggplant parm and my son the chicken parm. They were both delicious and included a house salad and bread. I ordered Sal's Pizza last evening to satisfy the unstopped hunger I had been receiving. This pizza certainly satisfied these unruly cravings of mine, but I have some comments and concerns that I wish to address in this review: 1. Over the phone; they told me I can put bacon on "virtually anything", and then preceded to hang up the phone when I requested it be put on the soda I had ordered. Later, we got the bacon problems sorted, but I was still unsatisfied. 2. when the pizza was finally delivered, I consumed it in record pace, but the meat left more to be desired; it was flaky, overly sweet, and tasted like if someone drowned a baby in olive oil. My 3rd and final issue with this pizza is that it gave me an aura that I can only describe as despicable. Great Pizza place. We were traveling to Boston from NYC and needed lunch. So we Yelped and got off the road. Sal's is wonderful. Nice establishment and good food. And all at great prices. I had an antipasto salad (medium) which was big. Had lots of salad, veggies, meat and more. I also had to have a slice of pizza to go with it it. Excellent choice. We also had a Chicken Parm sandwich (yummy) and a Chicken Pannini. Wonderful. The food is really good. The staff a delight. We stopped in after grocery shopping. The food was really good. We got the veggie pizza and kids pasta. Service was quick and pizza did not disappoint. Cleared my cravings! Pricing overall was not bad either. But it's not much of a sit down place. If you want to eat there it'll be fast and delicious but it's set up for takeout. I love Sal's pizza. The dough is amazing and chewy with a nice golden crust. The texture is thin but not too thin. I love the little bubbles that rise up in the oven and lightly browned. The sauce is my favorite no one else makes a delicious sauce like Sal. I have been going there for years and I used to get the slices for lunch but then I decided I wanted leftovers for dinner or another day. The slices are really a good size and filling but now I just take my time and enjoy eating every single bite. The garlic knots are a good appetizer and the salad can be adjusted for the items you want on your salad. I have had the pizza with roasted red peppers and occasionally other veggies but I really prefer to enjoy the pizza flavor which is the best just as it is delicious. Still searching for the best pizza around. After seeing a local post of this being a local favorite we had to give it a try. Garlic knots were good, but nothing to go crazy for. Not very garlicky, which was a miss for my family. More like dough knots with a drizzle of garlic oil. Pizza was ok. Crisp crust, but very doughy and chewy, not thin and crispy like NY style as it's claimed. Not enough sauce, nicely seasoned though, just wished there was more. The pizza by the slice sign brought me in. They have booths up front and tables in the back. I ordered 2 plain, but they had other options. The slices were a good size and very tasty. The menu had a nice variety. Everything from Antipasto to Manicotti and even something called pizza pops. I did see a gluten free pizza option for those that need. It really seems like a nice place. I've lived in South Windsor for nearly a decade and I'm ashamed that I'm just discovering Sal's Pizzeria. You ever find a great pizza place and get a little bored, but refuse to try somewhere else because you fear getting a bland pie? I suffer that affliction. I'm terrified to try somewhere new because it might suck. I'm glad my wife latterly dragged me here. It was a great experience. We dined in and order a bunch of stuff from the menu; pizza, antipasto, pasta and meatballs. I liked my serving of antipasto, though my friend would have liked more flavor. My daughter told me the meatballs reminded her of my homemade ones and I take that as a compliment. We ordered a large pepperoni pie and it came out screaming hot. One nice touch they had was refrigerated grated cheese. Clearly it was not the pencil shavings of other places. The pizza was very thin with a crisp crust. The sauce had a tang and there was just enough cheese. This is one of the best in the region. The dine in experience could have been better. It was very warm and clearly Sal's focuses mostly on take out, though our server was very friendly. We did have regular silverware but everything else is paper. We are lucky in South Windsor to have multiple amazing pizzerias. I'll be back here and we will have to do some pizza rotation. read more

I love Pizza by the Slice places, and Sal's is definitely a great place for that. Most places try to just pump out as many slices as they can, to have a high turnover rate, but Sal's takes time with their slices, and you can tell by the way it tastes. I got a pepperoni slice, and a cheese slice. My OCD immediately kicked in, because the slices weren't cut in the shape that we're all accustomed to. (You will see what I mean). The bread is definitely the star of the show at Sal's Pizza. The pizza overall tastes good, but the bread is just so fluffy, and delicious. Definitely give this place a try! read more

Sal's was fantastic. I have to say they have the best 10" Calzone I've eaten anywhere in the US. Everything was fresh and the service good. Lots of leftovers for dinner so don't let your eyes take you to the 12" calzone, lol! It was a bit warm due to the outside temp and the ovens inside so would suggest turning up the AC. Had a chance encounter with Sal the other night as hubby and I were leaving the neighboring sushi place next door. There was a power outage that affected most of the shopping area except for the corner where Sal's and the sushi place are located. It was late - closing time, and Sal was standing in his doorway. He called out to us, commenting on what a lovely evening it was, an evening for lovers. How romantic! About that same time a group of young folk drove up and asked Sal if he was still open and if he had some slices. "I was just thinking about closing, but sure, come on it." (Imagine this all said with a fabulous Italian accent - charming and perfect!) I said to myself right then and there, I must come back and try a slice from Sal. Yesterday we were out exploring our new town (just moved here a week ago from the NW) and I had a grumble in my tummy saying "FEED ME"! Patience, dear tummy. I will stop at Sal's soon to satiate the inner beast that is my belly. Arrived mid afternoon at Sal's and was greeted by a friendly woman (Sal's daughter? wife? cousin?); Sal was in the kitchen manning the oven. I ordered 2 slices, just cheese. Simple. A couple minutes later two large slices arrived at our table, piping hot and on a paper plate. A little sprinkle of oregano, a dash of pepper flakes, and a healthy dose of garlic powder - delish! The crust was thin and crisp on the bottom, the sauce was pure tomato (maybe a tad sweet for my personal taste, but the garlic and oregano compensated for that), and there was a generous topping of cheese. Nom, nom, nom! Only took about 20 minutes to make my belly happy, and (with tax) was less than $5.50 to feed two. Service was excellent and supper friendly. On a side note, there was a grandmother and her grandson also dining while we were there. The kid LOVED their pizza. This place is a most for families. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and had a side salad and a personal sicilian cheese pizza. Salad was average with fresh iceburg lettuce , cherry tomatoes, cukes, green peppers,red onions. Italian dressing tasted homemade, very mild dressing. Pizza was one of the best I have ever had, probably in top three. Sauce was outstanding as was the cheese and crust.
