Just had a really good Carne Asada Burrito. The meat was grilled well (see char on the meat) and tender. It must have been marinated in something too cause the last few bites were (flavor not spice). I live nearby in Talmadge so I'm really glad I took a gamble on this one. The exterior doesn't match the food. I paired it with their green salsa which was pretty mild but gave it some levity/brightness. Oh and value is there for sure. I'll definitely be coming back. With so many Mexican restaurant options is usually easier to stick to the one you know. We eat Mexican food pretty regularly and usually go to the same places. But we decided to try out Salsa Brava and it did not disappoint. Food was very tasty, well cooked, staff super nice and very affordable. Prices are hard to beat, specially nowadays that everything is super expensive. We went for the first time last weekend and came back today. This taco shop is dirty I saw one of the cooks poking his nose in the kitchen while I was waiting on the drive thru. They saw me pull up and it took them forever to attend me. I had to honk and out of know where two other people in the kitchen stand up and attend me. I said "NEVERMIND I'M OUT OF HERE" this place is nasty. I wouldn't trust it, I know if I would've ordered they would've spit on my food or idk what they would do but for sure my gut feeling had an idea of how dirty this shop is. This place is so good which is why it is always busy! If you're not super patient then it might be best to place an order over the phone for pick up. I got the chicken quesadilla and they were bomb!! The rolled tacos are good and burritos are delicious. I'm always trying new things. Going to try the mini tacos next and I'm sure they won't disappoint. Definitely one of the best taco shops on SD. I promise you they are not all the same. This place is delicious, clean, and the staff there are super awesome! :) You get the pop and moms treatment. Makes me feel like food at home. read more

Salsa Brava is going down. They have generously increased their prices while providing crap food. Options for Paleo or low carb lifestyles is vacant from the menu. They have taken the delicious Salmon with black beans and roasted vegetables off the menu which was one of the few healthy and delicious items they had. Since the Salmon was no longer available, I ordered the Chicken Cobb which was always delicious and filling. The chicken breast size used to be a good 5-6 oz and had real bacon. Now the chicken breast is maybe 4 oz, if that, and was dry and tasted like it was stored in an old shoe before serving. The bacon was some sort of synthetic piece of crap that could best be described as a dog treat. No eggs on the "Cobb" salad which is a primary ingredient. I have had much more superior entrees at our local Hispanic owned restaurants. I waited 5 minutes before the bartenders acknowledged my arrival as they were too busy gabbing with friends and employees at the other end of the bar. The manager is still walking around in a mask!!?? Are they trying to send us their corporate message? Be afraid, be very, very afraid BS. Just a side note: Perhaps Salsa Brava chefs and corporate decision makers should attend an authentic Mexican culinary class. We vote with our wallets friends, do not support these corporate scum who seem to think we will accept such low standards in food service for the population. One of the best mom and pop Mexican taco shops in SD. From tostadas to enchiladas to to carnitas and carne asada, it is all good, especially the horchata. And they are the nicest people in the world. So I used to live down Estrella ave, a block away from Salsa Brava. I also used to work at the House of Motorcycles across the street, so I know this place well. To be honest, most of the food doesn't separate itself from other shops, it's comparable to the average Mexican food joints you will undoubtedly come across when in San Diego... ...but the adobado burrito? Check it; I made drive from Pacific Beach to get it many times [when I'm visiting]. PB to East San Diego is not a short drive. When I lived there, I tried probably two dozen different adobado burritos, and Salsa Brava was never beat in my book. It may be silly to base a whole review on one item, but I'll do it. Hell, in my profile, it's the last thing I want to eat before I bite the dust. I really miss this place. A decade ago i lived in the neighborhood and would eat here a couple of times a week. The breakfast burritos were the best I had ever had -- fluffy eggs, fresh tortilla, fresh salsa, freshly made hash browns -- I still think about them. The camarones diablos burritos were excellent, the adoba, the california burrito -- all if it I really miss now that I'm on the East Coast. Got to know the Sr. M. and the rest of his family -- I hope it's still the same folks running this place. The Chefs recipe for Adobada is top notch! I used to drive 20 miles avoiding all other joints along the way to eat there. I have guacamole added to them. Very nice lady at the register too. Moved to Fresno 3 years ago. While visiting San Diego it was a Must that I stopped there. The lady recognized me and said "long time no see". I normally used to say the usual but after 3 years I told her adobada tacos. Sat down, and the lady came with a plate with the tacos with guacamole that I forgot to mention at the register. Outstanding! This action alone led me to get a Yelp account. They provide stocked to go trays if eating in the comfort of your home is what you prefer. read more

3 stars= A-OK Just randomly picked the place last week in search of good fish tacos with my mom. The place next door didn't look as hole in the wall so I figured this was the legit place to go. The salsa bar was something to be desired. It didn't seem like it was being kept cool in any way and had 2 options; Rojo or/or verde. I got a fish taco and carne asada street taco. Mom got a fish taco and carnitas street taco. Fish taco looks pretty and full, but it was a fish stick and lacking in flavor. The street tacos however... Not really thrilled with this place. They seem to have a huge selection of food, ranging from burgers to kosher hot dogs but the main focus here is Mexican food. The place was very warm but there was a decent cross breeze through the main part of the dining area. The dining area itself is very clean and large. I was somewhat amused that many of the tables said "Papachino's Italian Food" on them.... you'd think Salsa Brava would have taken care of that with at least tablecloths or something. The burrito was very hot, but tasted just okay. I couldn't really taste the cheese. I definitely was not a fan of the chicken rolled tacos- they were quite mushy inside and I found a piece of bone or gristle in it. I picked something out of the shell that seemed vaguely edible, if at all. and an hour later as I write this, and after a much-needed trip to the bathroom, I still can't quite shake this sickly feeling I have. This is my favorite taco shop in the neighborhood. The couple that runs this restaurant serves really authentic home style food. My favorites are the Milanesa plate, seasonal caldo de pollo, burrito de pollo con mole, and bean and cheese burrito. Their menu is very robust and they don't offer everything on the menu every day, but any Mexican food you order is bound to be outstanding! The ambience isn't the best, but the food more than makes up for it. I highly recommend this taco shop. read more

Rude and slow service! I just had one question and the lady at the counter snarled at me. I ordered their chicken breast sandwich w/ cheese and a dr. pepper drink but she gave me a sprite. She also got my friend's drink wrong. My food came out wrong. Who puts horseradish on their chicken breast along w/ cheese?! Disgusting! The fries were also hard!
