The beans are so good, they taste like they have been made in a laboratory. Perfect balance of chorizo, potatoes, eggs. Super delicious tortilla that was soft and not stretchy. Inside has plenty of tables that are inviting. Staff was attentive, even though busy with phone orders. Salsa is really good too, I prefer their red over green. One of the few taco shops in the area that servers menudo. My bowl was packed with beef tripe along a pork knuckle and hominy. Soup was nice and hardy for a hangover induced night out, instantly making me feel better. Tripe was cooked down to the point it melted like butter when you bite into it. I tired a bean/cheese burritos and roll tacos another time and they were good but nothing special. Would definitely come back again for the menudo. Great value for carne asada fries compared to everywhere else. 12.99 and the box is big in addition they do not skimp on the meat here which is what I love and so fair!! The only down size is that they do only give a limited amount of salsa today and charge for extra. But aside from that this is the place to go for value and quality! They used to sell ground beef tacos here and they said they never did so we went ahead and ordered a torta and some nachos. They don't sell half order nachos. The torta was really plain the nachos taste like chips from a bag that were microwaved. The cheese wasn't even melted. I asked for 2 cups of water. They said they don't have water that I have to buy a bottle of water. I would not recommend this place. The price is the same as anywhere else. read more

This is by far one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Everything I have tried here has been very tasty. The customer service is good (Except for a few months back when a young woman was working the register. She was not polite, and she seemed annoyed that you were in the restaurant). We were ill recently so I stopped by La Morena two times to get us chicken soup. The soup was fresh, homemade, and delicious. They give you 1 gigantic warm tortilla per order and all the garnishes such as onion, cilantro, and lime that is packed in a separate foil for freshness. Their red and green sauce are both good as well. We were very happy with the food and it is priced great for what you get. The couple who run this place are very kind and work their tails off. The only bad thing is the location, which is not their fault but it still is what it is. The homeless problem is getting worse everywhere. I would still return without hesitation to this spot if we are ever in the mood for soup or any other Mexican staples. I had a birria de chiva (goat soup) many years ago which was also fantastic, and I am sure that their tacos/burritos/chile rellenos, etc. would have the same high quality as the soups. read more

The staff was friendly, the food came out quick and everything was so cheap and delicious. It's also in a large parking lot so it is easy to get too. I ordered the California burrito which I anticipated to be smaller when she described the size to me but it was sooo big, which was fine because I just ate it as leftovers the next day. There were chips and salsa at my table which was yummy. I'm not from the area but it seems like there are a lot of regulars that the restaurant recognizes and it made it a very welcoming and fun environment while I was eating a quick solo lunch. Ordered a 3 item combo of 2 rolled tacos, hard shell taco,  and bean tostada.  No rice or beans with it.  Rolled tacos and hard shell taco were good.  I am not a fan of tostada's.  I find them hard to eat.  This one was ok. I stopped in La Morena for a bowl of New Year's Day menudo. They only offer the one bowl of red menudo for about $8. I felt the red menudo was okay and could of been better however. For example, the tripe pieces needed to better cut into smaller uniformed pieces. The knife work here was sloppy and the customer was not considered. Some of the pieces were to large to eat or there would be three chopped pieces attached to each other. With only a spoon, I could not break them into smaller pieces. The flavor of the soup was good, but it lacked hominy. Adding the dried oregano leaves, chopped white onions, and a few squeezes of lemon liven up the soup. However, I could not get over the lack of attention they gave to the tripe. The meal also came with corn tortillas which I used to dunk into the soup broth. The salsa and tortillas chips that came with the meal were good. read more

I just found this place and haven't had the opportunity to try a lot here yet, but I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again! The food reminds me of home. What I got: cheese enchilada and Chile relleno combo and horchata The Details: can't go wrong with horchata of course! Delicious as always, and isn't watered down here. The enchilada sauce is jam-packed full of flavor (I personally appreciate enough to swim in) and the Chile relleno wasn't too greasy, although I wished it had been bigger. The beans are a bit dry and I found it strange that the Spanish rice is yellow instead of red...maybe that's a regional variation? Either way, it was still tasty. I really wanted a burrito in the area and this place had the best reviews so I decided to give it a shot. I had the California burrito. Pros: The meat was well flavored and not overly cooked. "Red" ( was actually more brown in color) hot sauce had good flavor as well. Place was clean and well kept. Cons: Had to pay extra to add guac which usually comes standard in cali burritos. I judge a good burrito by the quality of the meat and the meat is perfectly seasoned; I could eat just the asada by itself.
