Very decent, will definitely be back! I had the specials, which we're lobster toast and scallops with crackled coconut rice. My guy had the hanger steak and rosemary garlic mashed potatoes. The lobster toast had a sizeable piece of shell in it and could've been seasoned a bit more, and the coconut rice cake that came with the scallops had more texture than flavor. Came here with a bunch of friends. Ordered the bone marrow appetizer and the tartare. For mains, we all got steaks, some oysters, and then the risotto. To be honest, it's a great place for steaks if you don't feel like cooking but I'm pretty confident that it was not worth the price. I preferred the 25$ risotto over the 80$ steak which shouldn't happen. The bone marrow was really tasty though and I heard from my friend that the burger was pretty great as well. read more

Delicious seafood chowder! Made with silky broth, salmon, a white fish I hadn't heard of and clam. Served with toasted bread. Light olive oil drizzled over soup was unexpected and delightful! Onion and mushroom sandwich was alright but became mushy quickly. Came with amazing side of perfectly cooked fries with a jalepeno aioli. Friend had the smoked salmon in toast and gave it rave reviews. I'll be back for that chowder (and fries). read more

This place has a solid happy hour. Got 2x dozen Pacific oysters for 42$. Also ordered the steak slider and herb fries, while my wife ordered the shrimp caesar salad and smelt fries. All of the portions were reasonable to price. the HH drinks were well proportioned. Service was very nice. If you go for dinner, they offer chips and aioli as a starter. I'll be sure to insert a photo incase you decide to lie about other things as well. Such as food borne illnesses. We had been told that you make your seafood chowder in a large pot to serve for 2 days, heated and served. That is information straight from your mouth. Does anyone in Edmonds deserve such treatment? After waiting for 30 minutes with nothing opening up, the staff took pity on me and gave me an "honorary" bar table with my friend where we could enjoy the happy hour menu. Used to love this new restaurant in Edmonds, took my clients here for lunch and dinner with family. But last three times we were here after their anniversary, the waiters seems to have an attitude, the waitress were more friendly and smile a lot, but the 2 waiters seems tired and I don't feel that I am appreciated to visit this restaurant. Their food quality seems to drop a lot from when they first open too. I don't think I want to spend my $$$ in this restaurant for some ok food and not friendly service, and they are pretty pricey too. read more

Upscale restaurant in downtown Edmonds. It was raining and dark when I arrived so not much to look at. Sat at the bar around 730pm on a Wednesday without a problem. Bartender gave me the drink menu, wine list, specials, and menu. Wine list looked very extensive with a solid selection of bottles. The menu had a little of everything ranging from $15-MP pricing. I opted for the pork tenderloin off the specials menu. It was cooked to perfection and served with roasted shallots and long beans. This is perhaps the worst place I have dined since moving to the PAC-NW 7 years ago. I've reserved my review until my second visit with the hope that the first was just a bad day. Everyone has them. Sadly, the second visit proved worse than the first, which I doubted was possible. The food was horrible and outrageously overpriced. Examples: The hubby had a "steak" sandwich in which the meat was simply shredded and tasted awful. No steak there; a hamburg patty would have looked and tasted more like steak. I had a "crabmeat" po'boy. The crabmeat was nearly impossible to find below the fried, almost burnt, outer crust and shells. The seafood in the seafood chowder must have headed back to the sea, as it was barely to be found amid the tasteless milky base. As for service, again my second visit proved to be worse than my first. While the server got our order wrong and was incredibly slow, at least he seemed like a nice fellow and apologized that first time around. On our second visit we were seated at a table in the bar. Thus, we were waited on by the bartender. He did not give a darn about us. He was not interested in how we felt about our food, gave us no attention and did not even clear our dirty plates before dropping the check on our table. Not once did he ever make eye contact. The restaurant itself is kind of a joke in decor. They are *trying* to look upscale in order to charge high prices for horrible food and terrible service. I can only describe it as "fake quaint". Besides using decorations apparently from a thrift store in an attempt to look old-fashioned, the wall sidings, etc. could have come from the Home Depot and been slapped together. Even a fake barn door is thrown in for good measure. The benches for waiting customers are upholstered using obvious office staples. The whole thing comes off as just pathetic. Save yourself some money and head toward the Edmonds waterfront for some decent food, service and atmosphere, as you won't find it at the Salt & Iron. read more

Usually it's a great experience but on a recent Saturday night they were too busy. We all (4 of us) felt staff were just coming and going manically to our table and rushing us through. Also, they gave two friends the wrong burgers and they didn't realize it until they'd started eating. One wanted well done and another medium and one wanted no onions. They weren't thrilled with service that night. Best service is in a slower week night. They are still busy but not crazy busy. We will still go back as we like it a lot. this place is pretty darn good -- one of my faves in edmonds. knocking down a star because their service really needs some work. bartenders are great, but the servers / hosts need to step it up. the food, however, is always delicious! I LOVED the mussels in tomato sauce; lately they've been doing it in a green chili sauce, but bring back the tomato sauce and I'll be there on the daily. :) happy hour is a good deal, with plenty of options for sharing. their charcuterie board is also really good. usually they have enough cheese and meat options to keep it interesting. brunch as decent, but I think I need to go back and try it again for brunch. the time we went (for mother's day) it left a lot to be desired (specifically the server was a major letdown). the food was okay, but brunch just isn't my jam. so don't take my brunch review too seriously. dinner/happy hour though -- I really love this place and the food options. they also have a good whiskey selection, so that's always a plus in my book. bottom line -- don't miss this gem. tip: on the weekends, prepare for a wait, unless you're smart enough to make a reso. :) read more

So disappointed in this restaurant! Seafood chowder had very little actual seafood in it. Petite filet was a Small Plate, so only a few ounces of meat with a lot of potatoes swimming in the demi-glace. The meat was tender, but without much taste. The strawberry salad was no better than you could buy in a bag at Safeway or Fred Meyer. The feta cheese was the tastiest part of the salad and my compliments for the evening go to that cheesemaker and also the baker for the bread (must be ordered separately) and comes grilled and thinly sliced so parts of the crust taste burned. However, after I complained we got more bread that wasn't burnt and with butter was quite tasty. If you don't like cilantro avoid the chimichurri which comes with the bread. For a bill of $75 (and only water to drink) the experience was very disappointing. read more

Salt and Iron redeemed it's self on our second visit. Our last visit was in December of 2015. This visit was in September of 2017 and I'm happy to say that every issue we had last time has been address. Actually, I'm not sure about the drapes because we sat at a different table. On this visit our waiter was attentive and helpful. The water was tap, but, nicely filtered. And, the food was delicious with out any overpowering ingredients or missing flavors relative to the descriptions. Well executed Salt and Iron, we'll be back! read more

I almost took a star away because the menu should give a warning about over-ordering. Table for two outside in the streetside dining. Pack your sunscreen if it's a sunny day. A dozen oysters and steak salad would have been more than enough for two and completely worthy of a five star rating. I'm not sure how many steak salads I've had in my life, but this one was the best. The oysters were fabulous as well. We went crazy and ordered the seafood pot. That was a meal in itself! I picked this spot for my birthday dinner last month on a whim, and I am so glad I did! We made a repeat visit for my fiance's birthday dinner on his request and confirmed S&I as a special dinner destination favorite! He enjoyed the filet mignon and whipped potatoes both times, with the steak cooked red throughout - perfectly tender and seasoned. I had swordfish the first time and cleaned my plate, but I went for the prime hanger steak with chimichurri this last round and was not disappointed! The proteins are obviously the stars, and the steaks are treated as such topped with crispy onions and herbed butter. YUM!! This is a place I feel I can go and order whatever is on the menu and walk away happy. From the classic or inventive sides and sauces to the classy and extensive cocktail menu, I just want to go back and try everything. Speaking of cocktails - every one has been a winner so far! He likes the Manhattans, and I have tried four different and delicious cocktails - Sazerac, Yost Thirty and The Uplift Society all balance bitter and sour flavors against a good pour of top shelf liquor and are served with finesse. I also enjoyed the flirty Iron 75mm, sparkling and refreshing on our first visit with the swordfish. We split a chocolate pave for my birthday dessert, and it was a heavenly adventure featuring delicate tuiles, candied hazelnuts, perfect ice cream, and multiple tasty surprises that made every bite sing. Wow! These guys are on their game with flavors in every category on the menu and spot on with the details. We appreciated both times the personable service and homey yet upscale ambience. We sat in the front of the restaurant the first time with brighter lighting and closer to the bar the second time around, dimmer but louder. Both locations had their own charms and quirks much like the playful menus. Once again, you can be anywhere in the restaurant and probably get the right experience. Almost perfect...filet was amazing, Hollandaise divine. Love the ambiance and style of this spot, but it was clear that our 8pm reservation was holding up our server's evening plans. We were immediately and repeatedly pestered for our order, though we asked for a couple of minutes to look over the menu. My dinner companion's plate was removed while he was still chewing his final bite of steak and the check was on the table by the time he swallowed. My review is fully based on Sunday's brunch. I have been here once for dinner but it was when they first opened so I'll have to give it another shot! I'm giving 4 stars rather than 5 because i enjoy sitting in the bar and I've realized Sunday's have become a gathering spot for middle to old aged "Edmonds moms," (if you live here, you know what I'm referring to) and they seem to come in groups. Sometimes only three or four of them but other times like this last Sunday, there was a group of twelve or so who were annoyingly drunk at noon and the group seemed to grow and grow until it was finally standing back against my table. See, I know I'm in the bar, so I'm not too picky BUT if they weren't obsessing over avocado toast and mimosas the whole time MAYBE i would have been less annoyed. But I know this isn't the restaurants fault, other than I know at my bar we would have asked the group to move back a little and respect space. Brunch is to die for here though. I have yet to try something I didn't salivate over. Drinks are delicious (get the Bloody Mary....OMG) and for being such a "high end" and expensive restaurant in the evening, it's actually reasonably priced during brunch and two people can get out of there with a drink, food, and tip for about $50. The Benedict's are the best I've had in my life..you get your choice of sausage, bacon, or avocado. Or do it right and get bacon AND avocado....oh lord! Biscuits are gravy are not your average but not in any bad way. Biscuits are flaky and soft inside but have a nice crunch to the outside layer. My favorite part about the sausage gravy was that it wasn't a thick, country gravy as much as it was just a good gravy...delicious in flavor and the consistency was perfect where it soaked into the biscuits but it wasn't too heavy or overpowering. AKA you actually got biscuits with gravy and not a measly little biscuit drowned in country gravy! This place is a MUST for brunch if you live in the greater area of Edmonds!!!!!! read more

We did a birthday party date night here, just the two of us celebrating another year of living for one of us... The food was constantly amazing. We had small plates, shared for two. Something like a crazy 8 or 10 course meal before we were done. But each dish was a great as the last, leaving us curious and a wonder of what came next. The waiter chained our selections so the table was never crowded, but always full. He engaged us constantly with banter, wit, and humor. The couple hours slid past like a few minutes, filled with laughter and smiles the whole night through. The food is the star here, as one would expect, but the staff makes us want to go back again and again. The wait staff understand the complexities of the menu, describe the dishes well, and know how to lead from one course to the next. Plus they engage with laughter and grins. My husband and I dined here last night. We were greeted promptly and shown to our reserved table. The waiter took our drink orders after a few minutes. I ordered the Iron 75mm. It was just my style: rosemary vodka, lemon, champagne and a pinch of salt. Perfection. Husband ordered the Old Fashioned. Next we ordered a bowl of seafood chowder and a side of fiddlehead ferns. I have never eaten them before and wanted to give them a try. My husband also ordered a few oysters. He liked them. I don't eat oysters. The seafood chowder was to die for. The ferns were like a cross between asparagus and Brussel sprouts, sautéed with bacon. Very interesting and tasty. For the main course, my husband ordered the burger. Very messy but very delicious. The fries were tasty and came with a side of avocado aioli. My meal was the lamb ragout. I have just recently started trying lamb dishes. I am so happy that salt and iron is in my neighborhood...it is now my number one go to place. The thing that I love most is that they are open and serving at the off-times when I generally like to grab a bite to eat, so nice on a late Sunday afternoon when you're approaching the hangries. They also have a nice happy hour menu, although I have yet to take advantage of it as I love the regular menu items so much. On my most recent visit our server was absolutely lovely. She was so patient with our requests, made excellent recommendations and made a couple of delicious scratch bloody Mary's.
