Does now have "healthier" options like wraps (though they serve them with french fries). Portion size is good. Taste is good (4/5). Cuban coffee - not as good as under previous management. I recommend they get this right as many patrons on SoFl look to finishing their meals with a nice Cuban coffee or cortadito. Staff was very friendly and didn't laugh to much at us when my boyfriend asked what some of the sides where...they where just the Spanish translations. The name of the restaurant tells you nothing about the type of food they serve. It's Latin American from a few places, Dominican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, maybe more. Hardly any ambiance, looks a little drab but the food is very good. They also have a very good early bird dinner. Lots of choices with salad or soup, entree and 2 sides and coffee and dessert for a very reasonable price. Most importantly, the food was really good, lots of different flavors but everything hit the spot. Portions were fine. Service was good with a slight language problem. Parking was easy in a strip mall. Have to go back to try the mofongo. read more

My wife found this place last Saturday. Latin American food, we were told. Well the waitress had a bad attitude. The food was horrible.... my wife's rice tasted like milk. I found this Latin American grill on a coupon site where they had a $25.00 coupon for $2.00. Quite a deal! Dave, Dale and I went by there for a very late lunch one weekday afternoon to try it out. It was about 3:45 pm when we arrived. No wonder the place was empty and the staff was setting up the tables for dinner. We understood the late time and didn't complain about the lack of silverware or condiments on the table. The place was clean and appeared to be family run. The employees were friendly but there was a small lack of communication because of the language barrier. Dale and I ordered unsweetened ice tea to drink and Dave got his usual diet coke. The iced teas came in huge goblets with over sized straws and looked really murky. I thought maybe it was some exotic special Latin iced tea and remarked the same to Dale. He pointed to the cooler in the corner and said, "Snapple." We checked out the menu, made our decisions, and placed our orders. I also asked for sweet-n-low but it didn't arrive before the food was served when I asked for it again. Since I had that great coupon, I thought I would sample their chicken soup. The soup was good. Highly seasoned with large slices of carrots and either potatoes or yucca. My uneducated taste buds couldn't tell. It also had a half of a chicken thigh: bone and all! Dave and Dale got house salads and once the plates were cleared the entrees made their way onto the table. Dave ordered the palomilla steak with black beans and white rice. Dale also had the palomilla but with red beans and white rice. It was quite a gastronomic experience. The food was good although highly seasoned and that might turn off a few people. I think it is authentic Latin food and therefore it might be worth the trip just to try it out. I was a little taken aback to pay $2.95 each for a couple of Snapples but that comes with the territory. The Palomilla dinners were $9.95 each and the Chicken Primavera was $11.95. Actually it was pretty reasonable for the amount of food. With the soup and Dave's diet coke added in with tax and tip the bill totaled $53.36; less my $25.00 coupon netted $28.36. not bad for a lunch for three, inclusive. Salt and Pepper Chef is worth a try. I give it three stars out of five. The coupon made it an enjoyable meal. Let me know what you think. read more

I was generally happy with this place. Lena and my co worker and I had dinner here a few nights ago. The food was good. I ordered the churrasco and asked for it medium rare, which I definitely got. It might have been even a little too-rare, but better that then over cooked and ruined. It came with a choice of two sides. The place was not busy, very very casual, and the service was good. For the price, I was very happy. I prefer to eat at these sorts of places when visiting the Fort Lauderdale area rather than the over-priced tourist traps by the beach. This place purposely OVERCHARGES customers. The computer rings up one price while the price on the menu is cheaper. When you bring the increased price difference to the cashiers attention, depending on who you get, they may chose not to honor the prices that are on THEIR OWN menu. This had happened to me on many occasions. The company should either update the menu prices OR update the computer prices to be identical. Although this is a no brained for any REAL business, clearly management is lagging. The fact the company refuses to do this after a year, seems as if something more insidious or scandalous is taking place behind the scenes. I will not be eating here any longer, I cannot support a business that don't value their customers. I also cannot support a business that would scam their patrons by price skimming. read more

This appears to be a family owned business run by a friendly staff and well organized. Customers are seated promptly. Everyone is so friendly. From the time that I arrived till my exit, I was greeted with a smile. The waitresses are bilingual. Complementary toasted bread is served. The food arrived promptly and prepaired to near perfection. I say near perfection because the meal needed a bit of salt and pepper but I am sure it is served that way for people who eat a low salt diet but it takes away from the wow factor. The establishment is very clean and well airconditioned. The only area the could use improvements are the rest rooms. Other than that, I had a wonderful dinning experience. read more

Came here to grab a takeout order, I got the grilled chicken breast with white rice and black beans with sweet plantains. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and seasoned well. This place is amazing and authentic! I have been here multiple times and I cannot get enough of this place! The first time I came here I ordered the grilled salmon. It was a large portion and came with 3 sides for a very reasonable price! My friend ordered the snapper and they brought out the whole fish! Both of our dishes tasted fresh and were cooked perfectly. The following times I ordered mofongo with grilled chicken. Again, very big portion for a great price. I absolutely loved the mofongo, although I do think it has a unique taste that not everyone will enjoy. My boyfriend and I have ordered delivery several times and its always delicious! They are friendly and delivery times are prompt. Consistency is important and they have done that in all aspects from quality of food, customer service and being prompt. I know if i order from here its going to be good! My BF was really impressed with the oxtail, and his family is Jamaican so he knows oxtail. I like the garlic shrimp and the chicken stew!
