I ordered the Chilli Paneer and Chana Masala. The waitress asked my partner "mild, medium, hot, or extra hot?" To me, she said "medium?" I corrected her; I would like my food hot. I am not really sure what spice level they ended up serving me -- they seemed to want to serve me medium, but the spice was completely imperceptible. Definitely not hot as requested. Potentially mild. The food was flavorful, tasty even, but not even a whisper of heat. That was disappointing. To put things in perspective -- I'd say a slice of pepperoni pizza with a few red pepper flakes sprinkled would be spicier. The chana masala was also SUPER oily. I'm not sure if that's normal for them or not -- no matter how many times I stirred it, around 1/4 cup or more of straight oil kept separating out. Beautiful restaurant, clean, quiet, with tasty enough food, but they majorly failed on delivering heat, which is one of the main things I enjoy in Indian food. Went with the fam yesterday, on our way back from Perry Lowe Orchards. We arrived at around 6'sh, and the restaurant was empty. Within few minutes we. ordered and ended up waiting patiently. It took ~30 minutes for our order to arrive, one by one, but even at that time there weren't a lot of folks in the restaurant. And that surprised me that a restaurant with such nice ambiance & having a good name/reputation shouldn't be taking this much time on a Saturday evening. Food wasn't that bad, but not as good as I was expecting. I've had Chicken Karahi all over the world and came here after one of my friends told me that their karahi was good. I'll be honest: I wasn't! Charsi Tikka was good but a bit undercooked. Butter Chicken was good though. After we were done with our dinner, we had to wait for at least 15 minutes to have someone come to us and give us the boxes to take left over food. Even after that, no one came to check if we need anything or how we do have to pay. To summarize: experience was not as bad as it sounds like. But the owners must step up, be there by providing excellent customer service rather than relying everything on their staff. There wasn't even a manager who I could talk to - as it seems everyone was either taking orders or do stuff all around. Same folks were on the counter to get payments & serve drinks at the bar. The interior is very attractive I never was able to try the buffet because it was suspended during Covid and never restarted. But I have tried quite a few items there, including: Chili Chicken, Gobi Manchurian, Chicken Tandoori, Seekh Kabab, Goat Biryani, Navratan Korma, Dal Mahkin, Rogan Josh, Chicken Curry, Tikki Massla, Butter Chicken, Kamb Vindaloo, and more. I used to be a regular here when I lived nearby, but haven't been for close to a year. I managed to visit today and it was very different from the Salt and Pepper I know. I think they may have changed ownership. I ordered the Mulligatawny soup and the Shahi Paneer, both medium. I also ordered a salty lassi and some garlic naan. The salty lassi and garlic naan were on point, but my soup and entree were way off. I ordered a medium spice level on both, but they were both extremely mild with no spice at all. The soup had veggies in it that were undercooked and there was no depth of flavor. Also, they gave me Karahi Paneer instead of Shahi Paneer. I assumed that they had just changed the recipe to a really odd interpretation due to the new ownership and just accepted my fate. However, when I got my bill, it said Karahi Paneer which makes SO much sense. I asked the server if I had gotten the Shahi Paneer and she checked her computer and said yes. In any event, the space is still beautiful. The servers were speaking to each other across the restaurant for much of my meal, which was odd. I'm hoping I was just there on an off day. read more

Stopped in here for the first time as part of a team lunch at work, and boy this did not disappoint! I love Indian food, but don't get the opportunity to go often. This place is very clean and modern on the inside, very bright, with very attentive staff. They have a very large menu with offerings from neighboring countries like Pakistan as well. They offer both traditional lunch special and vegetarian lunch special , and at first glance you may be in sticker shock by the prices on the lunch menu, but it will all be better when you see the portion sizes! With the lunch special you're able to get an appetizer, which seemed to be like a sweet and sour chicken portion, a side salad, then you can pick two different sauces, I opted for both to be buttered chicken, then a generous serving of rice, a delicious garlic Nan, and a dessert, which seemed like a sugary donut type concoction ( a bit to sweet for me). But the image on the menu compared to the enormous platter they bring out is a little misleading. It was so much food, could easily feed 2 if not more. It was all fantastic and delicious. Ahhhhhh the naan was huge! That is literally what I texted friends the second I saw these massive pieces of well seasoned bread. And I'll start there even though we got the samosa chaat: the naan was incredible. Giant as you can see, light on garlic (perfectly so) and charred, chewy and crunchy in parts, a perfect piece of naan. The samosa chaat: get me a buffet of this. A smooshed samosa covered in chickpeas, tamarind chutney, veggies, a creamy yogurt. Our main dishes were mutter paneer (med to hot and it was perfection, a creamy tomato but not too heavy sauce with peas and perfectly cooked paneer) and paneer bhurji, a shredded highly seasoned paneer that was dry seasoned and incredibly flavorful with little pops of freshness. During a trip to N. Carolina, my companions wanted to eat some Indian food. I was thrilled that they wanted to, and used Yelp to find the place. The name of the restaurant doesn't really relate with anything Desi in my opinion and the decor was not what I expected. The place was very clean though and had an open feel to it. We all opted for Thalies. Both non-veg and veg versions. It was a great way for them to have a little of everything. The Thali is quite high in price I thought. I was really surprised by the diversity of groups that were there eating! Really made me happy! One thing that was a disappointment was the non-veg Thali for 2, says it comes with shrimp which we did not get. I felt a bit bamboozled. They need to change the menu as it is misleading. I will say we really enjoyed the food so we came back a second time during the week. We ordered a couple of curries and some bread. Rice was already included. I stopped into Salt & Pepper based on the super great reviews, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. The place was very packed, but there was still ample social distancing in place. We were seated after a 10 minute wait, and the great scents of S&P had us ready to eat. We ordered the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, lamb Rogan Josh, and chicken vindaloo (all hot). The food came out quick enough, although the vindaloo was a few minutes behind the rest. The garlic naan is superb...super buttery and garlicky, but not soggy or limp. The main dishes were all very distinctly different dishes, which is not always the case in some Indian restaurants where everything comes out tasting similar. My favorite was the Rogan Josh, but the vindaloo and masala were both terrific as well. At first I didn't think the spice levels were right, as everything was sort of mild when it first hit the tongue. Therein lies the genius of Salt & Pepper. There's a subtle spice to everything, with no overpowering singular taste to kill your palate. Flavors are delicately layered, and the food is honestly delicious. Don't worry about that spice level either. The heat comes at the back end, so you can enjoy the intricate flavors and still get the spicy hit most Indian lovers crave. Everything isn't perfect. The sports bar next door is LOUD, and the music takes over the dining room ambiance a bit. If you can deal with that, and you should be able to, you're in for a culinary treat. Definitely the best spot for Indian food in High Point, and one of the best in the area, Salt and Pepper is a brand new and beautiful restaurant that has added itself to a nice grouping of good places to eat along Samet drive. Unfortunately for them, they opened JUST as the COVID-19 pandemic hit, so a lot of their potential has yet to be realized, but when everything is safe again, I can't wait to try the buffet here and dine in their exquisite establishment. In the meantime, I have had some excellent take-out from here. Full disclosure: I did win an Instagram contest that has given me one free meal here a month for six months. However, each time I have gone, I have ordered some extras, and in some cases a second meal for my wife, all on my own dime. I can say without a doubt, even once that promotion is up, I will continue to be a customer here! Beyond it being a strikingly beautiful restaurant on the inside, with lots of modern touches and a prevalence of white furnishings... the food here is fantastic. You always want to have robust complex flavors when enjoying this cuisine, and there is no shortage of that present here. Everything from the biryani and curries to their soups, naan, and vegetarian dishes makes you wish you had more regardless of the fact you are quite full. Upon touching down in Greensboro, this was my initial stop. Yelp is where all the cool kids and trustworthy reviewers hang out, so that's where I found it. To save time because I was ravenous, I looked over the menu online before I came. Although the restaurant was half-full, the parking lot was nearly deserted. I arrived without the requirement for a reservation and was promptly seated. The staff was so kind and checked in with me constantly; the service was superb. The food came lightning fast. For my appetizer, I get a bowl of chana masala and a plate of veggie samosas for $26+. A side of white rice is served with the chana. You can feed two people with these possibilities. Without the sauce, the samosa was just boring to me, thus I wasn't a fan. In contrast, the Chana was functioning at a higher level. My three favorite chanas of all time. After learning that a new Indian restaurant opened near me, I was very excited to try it out last week. It seems Salt and Pepper is still relatively unknown because it was pretty empty when we arrived except for a couple of other groups. This did make me feel more comfortable about eating inside at least. The staff was quick to serve us and very polite. However, I would note that I sometimes saw the staff not wearing their masks properly. A complimentary appetizer is included with your meal. I don't know what it's called but it's sort of like a large, thin cracker that comes with a dipping sauce. The sauce was sweet and smoky and punched up the cracker nicely because it was pretty plain on its own. We also shared the Vegetable Samosas as an appetizer. These are basically fried pockets of vegetables (mostly potato I think) and they were quite tasty! They came with the same dipping sauce as I mentioned previously. For our main dishes I ordered the Boti Kabab Masala, which is a goat dish, and my friend opted for the classic Butter Chicken. They allow for you to pick how spicy you like it, which is a nice option to have. Rice was included, and we ordered additional garlic naan as well. My goat dish really knocked my socks off. I enjoyed it so much I even forgot to take a picture! The meat was so juicy and tender, it literally melted in my mouth. It was so hard to resist eating the entire dish, but I restrained so I could enjoy it again later. On the other hand I found the Butter Chicken to be substandard. The sauce was solid, but the chicken was overcooked in my opinion. The garlic naan was beautiful and a perfect compliment to the meal. I always love to have it to dip into the sauce. Was craving some Indian soul food after a long morning hike at around 11 AM, Salt & Pepper was the only restaurant in the vicinity that was open so we decided to give it a shot. Frok the humble exterior, we were not expecting too much out of this restaurant...just a quick meal to satiate our test buds. But as soon as we stepped inside we were pleasantly surprised with clean and classy decor and courteous staff that greeted us. Given that we went at 11 AM on a Saturday, we were the only ones there but that meant we had the full attention of the staff. Given BBQ Nation's declining service, this new Indian establishment is a welcome addition to the High Point dining scene. There are a few areas for improvement, but there is also a lot of promise here. Housed in a plaza between Samet and Tinsley, Salt & Pepper can be difficult to find. Should you locate it, however, prepare to be impressed by the interior. The white and wood look is crisp, clean, and bright, and the chic bar area is an eye-catcher. Visual appeal extends to the menu as well, which has plenty of recognizable favorites: samosas, pakoras, tandooris, biryanis, masalas, naans, and desserts. As with many Indian eateries, there are quite a few vegetarian options. For our first visit, my wife and I shared vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis. The quintessential Indian combo platter, each thali came with an app (samosas/pakoras), rice, naan, a dipping sauce (tamarind), and two entries. Here the entrees were chef's choice, and while that bit of mystery may unnerve those who want to know what they are ordering, we were willing to roll the dice. Overall, the food rates as good but not great. The non-veg thali came with chicken tikka masala and goat (?) saag. While the chicken was just short of overcooked, both sauces were excellent. The creamy tikka masala was one of the better versions I've had, and the hearty green saag was well-spiced and richly flavorful. The vegetarian thali came with palak paneer (usually one of our favorites) and a daal. While the creamed spinach was fine, the lentils were bland and, confusingly (the rest of the food was up to temperature) lukewarm. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Some confusion regarding the point of sales system caused a brief delay when paying the bill, but the matter was resolved quickly. Speaking of that bill, thanks to one of Salt & Pepper's promo offers (BOGO entrees - seriously, check out their Facebook page), it ended up being a steal at $16+tax and tip, but even full fare would have been reasonable for the amount of food. Salt & Pepper may be the kind of place where you have to order carefully, but what they do well, they seem to do very well. They have a unique presentation for mixed grilled platter which has different kinds of kebabs on a large naan (flatbread) and it is made to perfection! The Chicken 65 was very tasty as well. We also tried the katori chaat and it was yummy, and is highly recommended. We also tried the chicken kadhai and again impressed by the taste and presentation. Mango lassi and pista kulfi rounded up the sweet buds. The service was great and friendly, and the restaurant has some great art work to display on the wall. Today we had the chicken Madras (my favorite) , vindaloo chicken. Butter chicken, garlic naan and Dahi Puri...a small appetizer designed to be eaten in one bite. The Dahi was a bit surprising as it is cool in the center and has a mix of flavors from sweet to spicy. They are small shells with chick peas, yogurt and chutney. So excited to try this raved about Indian place! Really nice decor bight and airy, nice bar area, and nicely spaced out seating. Few outside seats too. Menu looked really good online endless choices. The Pakoras were fried battered spinach, not too oily though, but crunchy and went great with the tamarind chutney. Plenty for a crowd too. So far this place is great. Only place I can fault is the service, not super friendly. But actually seemed fully staffed, but they weren't that busy on a Wednesday night. The menu also features Pakistani food, which is rare. We ordered a half portion of the Kadhai chicken, by far my favorite. Nice pieces of ginger and nice and spicy. Great sauce. Wish we'd gotten it with boneless instead of the bones but lesson learned. Next time! Definitely a must try. Their Naans are the best I've had in a long time. We ordered plain, garlic and the bullet, which isn't for the ones who don't like spicy. But have to say it looked great. The Bhaingan Bhartha, eggplant curry, was nice, tasty, not too saucy, but a huge serving, other veggies in it too. Very filling . All dishes came with white rice, which we had an abundance of around the table. The Bhindhi masala came out looked awesome again like everything, but was not quite cooked enough, so we sent it back. They bought out plates of poppadoms with chutney twice, which were really good. And if your true Indians like me you like your plate of sliced onions, Chili's and lemon on the side, which they gave us too when we asked. I ordered the butter chicken, condiment tray, and the garlic naan online for pickup. The garlic naan barely made it back home with me because I couldn't stop eating it in the car, I will have to get two next time. The butter chicken (I asked for it to be spicy) was so flavorful that I ate the whole thing in one sitting. I paid all $ after that because it was so important to her. She ordered Butter Chicken and a naan. I knew she wanted some chutneys to go with it and "Lets be honestI wanted them as well." Our food finally arrived and it was missing the napkins and silverware that we ordered. It was also missing the extra sauce I ordered for my Vindaloo chicken. I did not order my food to be spicy. I like spicy . However she couldn't eat her food or mine because of the additional spice. Her birthday gift wasted on such a terrible order. We have both ordered from here before and had excellent food. This was a huge waste of $ and neither of us are eating the rest of the food. So, We were also disappointed in the mint chutney sauce. Otherwise their vegetarian dishes are all outstanding - I ask for the Thali to be surprised. My wife and son love the chicken dishes and the naans, paratha, and other breads are perfect. Both sit down and take out - for dinner takeout I recommend 30-45 minutes from ordering as everything is made fresh to order. They do have a lunch buffet but I rarely do buffets in general and never during Covid - however you can order off the regular menu at lunch. The only part of our experience that makes this review a four and not a five star...customer service. For me, I love great food, but I also love to enjoy it in a place where I feel as if they were waiting just for me. Our plates were "tossed" on the table and our water glasses were poured for our imaginary guests sitting across from us. Both times, nary a word. The decor is clean, simple, yet a touch of elegance. They have a bar where you can sit and they are practicing social distancing with their seating. We ordered the garlic and rosemary naan, Butter Chicken, and Boti Kabab Masala with lamb. Once the food finally arrived to the table, we dove right in and only came up for air when we needed water. We chose the medium spice level for both dishes and it was perfect. I have to say, the food really was AMAZING and I purposely didn't inhale all of it because I wanted to enjoy it again for leftovers. They give you adequate portions to share. My Love preferred the rosemary naan with the masala, but I could eat the garlic naan every day and twice on Sunday. Either way, if you haven't been to Salt and Pepper, you will not be disappointed.
