Never having beef heart before, the Anticuchos intrigued us. They were great and will definitely have again. The Lomo Saltado with chicken was good but I'd try something different in the future. Once upon a time, an aunt's nephew was craving an Inca Cola so they went over the river and through the east side to Salt & Pepper to check out this Peruvian (+ Mexican) place (and scored free parking right out front in a small lot). The story goes on. During the short wait for food, a quick browse of the market attached inspired another trip for further exploration. A tamal to start. Nice flavor, texture, and a huge portion. The anticuchos were perfectly seasoned and tender. The picky child (and the foodie tia) ate them up with a yummy stewed tomato dish on the side and a bite of fresh corn sliced from the cob. Cau cau was next. Choosey Kid loved the rice while his mom's sister enjoyed potatoes, peas, and carrots in a savory sauce with tender tripe. The poor baby was not a fan of a cow's stomach lining. It was, in fact, delicious. Dessert was packaged to go and gobbled up later that night. Although it cannot be reported on what it's like fresh, it was a great consistency hours later in the fridge. Extremely unprofessional and rude. We ordered food from door dash. One of the items on the list was out of stock. However, they just cancelled it instead of letting us know... they just assumed we weren't hungry and left it as that. We drove out of our way more than 25 Minutes because Peruvian sounded really good. Couldn't find the restaurant. Signs on the building that it seemed to share with a Mexican store and weed shop. We couldn't imagine that was true so we walked Around the whole building and it was really unclear where this place was. The door underneath the building sign was boarded up but it had a little kiosk sign pointing toward the weed shop. We ended up walking through the weed shop and saw an unmarked door, opened it up and briefly saw a few men hanging out around a table. By that point, our family had enough of the lack of info. S&P has been on my radar for a while and we finally made it for dinner. It's nothing to look at, upstairs above an excellent Tienda (I'd been there but the restaurant was closed) with a dozen formica tables and a big screen TV with soccer on. No upscale decor here but ... someone knows what they're doing in the kitchen! My kind of place. It's about the food. We started with ceviche, which exceeded expectations. Yucca, potatoes, fish, red onions in a perfect marinade. Medium spicy was perfect. Ask and they'll make it hotter. Tallarín Verde, a pesto pasta (spinach/basil), with either pecans or walnuts blended in for thickness, was large and delish! Also the Cordero Trujillano (lamb chop) was super rich and served with rice and lima beans (?). Plenty for two, we took some of the pasta home. No booze. I'll have to check the rules for brown-bagging but I asked and she said no :-( A great out of the way spot on Powell. Next time we may check out some of the Mexican dishes. read more

I found this place from reviews on yelp, was in the area and was looking forward to trying it out. It was a bit tricky to find as you had to go into the Mexican market, then up the back stairs to it. It definitely has an authentic feel to it as there is loud music and the TV on with large tables decked with plastic tablecloth's and lots of signs in Spanish. We ordered the seco norteño and pollo saltado, large plates came out quickly with big portions of delicious tender beef on well cooked beans, a red onion salad and rice on the seco norteño. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pollo saltado came out looking a little dry with hand cut fries and rice. The place was a little quiet and could do with more customers to keep this little gem running so I recommend people get on down there to try some authentic Peruvian food and have a new experience. read more

I am impressed. This is the very definition of a gem of a hole in the wall. The atmosphere could definitely be more accommodating, but then it would no longer be a hole in the wall joints. The cashier and the chef were the only ones in this spot. Super friendly, and always with a smile. But what impressed me the most, was of course, the food. The Aji de Gallina was exceptional, and took me back to Peru. The lomo Saltado also had That flame touched, soy sauce taste that takes it to the next level. To top it off, they have a special chicken cilantro soup that is off the chain. Some may not know, but there is definitely Chinese influence in Peruvian cuisine. This place is in an area where many Asians have settled, so it is only appropriate that it is located here. I will be back for sure. read more

Wow. Food was so, so good. Had the Arroz Chaufa and Bistec a lo pobre. Both were great. Biggest hits of the house were the rice, potatoes, and plantains. Alfajores were awesome. It's a little pricier, but the taste is worth the extra couple dollars. My only complaint, and this isn't really their fault entirely, is that I ordered the Passion Fruit pie dessert but got rice pudding instead. Looks like they just don't offer the pie anymore (grubhub is out of date). If they were going to replace it I would have preferred more cookies!
