We had just left the fairgrounds and needed some Costco gas. We saw the taqueria and thought it might be a nice spot to try for lunch. We picked up food from a fast food location for our daughter (very limited menu for her) and hoped that Salt and Pepper would be ok with us bringing it in. Thankfully they were very accommodating! It was a quiet time and other than someone picking up a to-go order it was just us in the restaurant. We ordered the birria pizza and a side of chips and salsa. Portion size of the "pizza" was huge so we were only able to eat a little bit but took the rest home. The "pizza"/quasi-quesadilla was filled with juicy meat and had all the fixins on top. Came to Salt and Pepper Taqueria on a whim for dinner and the SO and I are completely WOW'd by this hole-in-the-wall! Located in the same parking lot as Costco in Turlock, Salt and Pepper serves amazing Mexican food. I really wished we walked into these doors earlier in life! This is one of the only taquerias I've found that does chilaquiles... and chilaquiles burritos! The inside is quite small, with two tables and two drink fridges in the forefront. The register is actually located further in if you follow the left wall. We ordered: Meat lovers burrito - we opted for birria, al pastor, and chicken as our three proteins. The SO loved that it only took half a burrito to fill him up (usually he will demolish it in one go), so the proportion to the value is reasonable. Chilaquiles burrito - I got this with al pastor and it was so good! There is also an egg prepared in your choice that is thrown in there. I loved that all burritos came with a grilled cheese exterior, adding extra crunch. Chile relleno a la carte - we got this with the salsa verde on the side, and I think that is the move here. They provide you with a pretty big bowl of the salsa and I was able to use this on my burrito as well. Service was really great. Waters were filled and patient when we didn't know to order. I found that we were accidentally charged for the chile relleno meal vs a la carte, and the cashier was able to refund me a few bucks in cash (even though there is a clear sign for patrons to check their order before paying - whoops!). I have been craving returning to Salt and Pepper to try their birria pizza. Will definitely make this a staple after-Costco meal for the future! read more

I enjoy chicken burritos on a regular basis and am a huge fan of Taquerias and locally owned establishments. They did not disappoint. I really like this place, but I am getting tired of constant wrong orders. I usually order on DoorDash and they always seem to make mistakes. I will ask for green salsa on my food and end up with red. Or they short you a second serving of meat even though you get charged more for it. Today, I decided to place a phone order and went and picked up my food and found the orders incorrect again. I noticed this after leaving and then having my food in Modesto. I asked for refried beans and got whole ones instead in my bowl. I even had the cashier repeat the order to me over the phone twice. I was rushing and didn't get a chance to check the order while I was there. They really need to work on their transcription and checking to make sure orders are proper. read more

Finally stopped by, since we always pass it when we go to the Turlock Costco. I got the California burrito and my girlfriend got the Quesa-birria tacos. The burrito was huge, lowkey too many French fries, but the spicy mayo was perfect. The quesa birria tacos were super cheesy and crispy, but we wish there was more birria meat inside. I would've give it a 5/5, but the lines were so hard to squeeze, barely any juice came out, but nonetheless still would come back! Ordered online and picked up. Food is very good. Ordered the burrito bowl with the chili Rellano as the meat, a keto bowl with Carnitas, and a keto taco. I would not recommend eating in house. The reason is it's a very small place and people waiting for pick up are just standing over the tables. My complaints would be and why they didn't get five stars, it's because I ordered two bowls and they did not provide forks. Also, I asked if there was a side of salsa for our food, and the guy looked confused. I really hate ordering $36 of Mexican food and having to beg for one small side. Probably some of the best two tacos I have had, they are not your $2 tacos but the size is absolutely worth the money. I would say go with 2 if you do three that would be a pretty large meal. Never had a keto taco all cheese no tortilla, and the quesabirria El pastor off. The chain, nothing but fire here. Place is a sleeper and truly awesome. Loved this place! First time here. You go along the wall to the register to order, there are a few tables or you can take it to go. The choices are different than I normally see, but OH SO GOOD! I had to try the Keto Taco - shell is made out of fried cheese - with asada - great flavor and made perfectly. Hubby had the burrito bowl with birria and enjoyed every bite. I also got the Pizza Birria just because it looked so good and it did not disappoint- so good! Food is amazing, and my family and I have been there several times. They've messed up our orders a few times and we still keep going back. However, if we're going out of our way to support a local business and spending at least $70 on tacos, we expect a friendly service and appreciation as loyal customers. I usually go to Modesto for some good Keto Tacos. Today I decided to look in town and see if I could find a place that makes them. I found this new spot. And I'm glad I did. I called my order in and it was ready in the quoted 10 minutes. I ordered one chicken and on asada keto taco. The chicken was alright but the asada was the best! The asada was seasoned great and didn't have too much fat. They include avocado slices, salsa, a colorful garnish, and a lime. They also offered me some chips and salsa with my order. The customer service is non-existent. The owner was stone cold and couldn't spare a smile if her business depended on it. It does. We got two burritos, one chorizo breakfast one and one vegetarian. It was terrible. The potatoes were not cooked all the way. Both burritos tasted bland. The worst part is that the owner made her employee do everything. That poor girl had to run the register, answer the phone, take orders, prep food and run orders to customers, all while the owner slowly walked around or stood around. Instead of just handing us the burrito, she made her employee do everything, so we had to wait until that poor girl found the time to hand us the burritos that were just sitting there for a while. I keep trying the tacos (there are many types), each of them spectacular, my favorites so far have been the Queso-birria taco and the Lulu's taco with carnitas. First time I've eaten here. A few tables for inside and outdoor dining and they have online ordering as well as curbside pickup. I ordered my food inside and took it to go. Inside is nice, clean and modern. Staff is very friendly. Pretty typical taqueria menu. I ordered the asada super burrito. They grill cheese on the tortilla, which I've never had before. Burrito was good, but not great. The meat was seasoned well and tasted good, but the burrito was on the dry side. Had a bit of spice to it, but my wife's did not.
