Let's call this ... average. For me this place sits right down the line of average. I've been here a few times and I've tasted a variety of their ice cream and I just wish it had a homemade taste to it so there's my bias. When you've had homemade ice cream from different places all over you have the taste permanently ingrained into your taste buds. this place also does not have malt however try the olive oil flavor. My family is so happy to have Salt and Straw on the west side. We have liked them since they first opened way back when. They opened in the Cedar Hills area yesterday 7/22/22 and the first 100 people got free cones. We swung by today and picked up two pints and got a third free, a nice deal which is good until the end of July. The parking was doable and the line wasn't terrible. The young lady working the register was very nice. There is seating outside, a splash pad/ fountain that was not turned on but it was wet,so there were a couple barefoot little kids jumping in it anyway, and a firepit/ outdoor fireplace. It is all pretty sweet. Just like their ice cream which is sweet, creamy,and often comes in some unusual flavors but don't worry there are some more traditional items for the more conservative ice cream eater. There are always a few vegan choices,too. The teen and I particularly enjoy Goat cheese Marionberry Habanero and Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons. Today we got the Sea Salt and a Wild Foraged Berry Slab Pie. The adult minion likes anything coffee so he chose Cold Brew Coffee Cashew Praline. The location of this shop is very modern and right in front of a splash pad which is cute for kids. I got the Boysenberry oatmilk sherbert. Oatmilk ice cream is very smooth and creamy and paired with the boysenberry it was a very mild sweet taste and was very refreshing. You need to wait for the people in front of you in line to pick and pay before you can get to the cash register to leave as its a single file line in and out. So if you know what you want, you'll still need to wait for those like me, who need to try the latest flavors. Just chill, try a new flavor and enjoy the moment. I tried the Pumpkin Pie Tiramisu. It was decent but i try and avoid caffeine. The Balsamic tasted too much like Balsamic and weird. The Cranberry Orange tased like it was made with orange peals and way too salty. The portions was very small and sat well below the top of the cone. Went here with the family yesterday and had the most amazing experience. It was our first time at this specific Salt and Straw and Jax helped us and was SO 10/10 service for us. Jax was so nice and caring to both us as the adults and also our kiddos. They talked to our kids and really accommodated them for samples. We also had mentioned that our youngest had a severe egg allergy and Jax was so kind to give us an extra little sample for her since she is only one and didn't actually need a whole ice cream. It was literally the sweetest gesture ever and meant so much to us to have someone go out of their way to help her. Hands down the best experience! We finally made it to the new Salt and Straw location in Cedar Hills without having to wait forever in the long line that wraps around the building! So happy to have a Salt and Straw close to home, but also dangerous. We used to drive to Lake Oswego every once in a while to get our S&S fix. We are always captivated by the delicious inventive artisan small batch ice cream flavors. My son got to enjoy the 2 Vegan flavors and thoroughly loved them. Walked in as a group of 4 to a decent sized closing crew, 15 minutes before close. Everyone working stopped what they were doing to give us nasty looks and stared at us in complete silence. It was so obvious they didn't want us there that a couple people I was with even made quiet comments like "they hate us" and "they don't want us here." Eventually, one person decided to take the plunge and ask for our order - not without sharing a long look with another girl. The atmosphere was so negative I turned to the rest of my group and asked if we should see if they want us to leave, which they all agreed. When I turned to the girl who asked for our order, I said, "Would it be easier for you if we just leave?" And she interrupted me before I could finish my sentence and, with a straight face, said, "It's fine, you're already here." Hello?? It was just such rude behavior and all over 2 scoops of ice cream. After we paid, we sat outside to hang out a bit more and saw another group go inside only to leave a few moments later without any ice cream so I guess the bullying tactic worked on them. It was just extremely unprofessional behavior and I'm sorry that you had to do your job but if you can't handle being polite to people (or even just pretend to be) well before you can even lock the doors no matter how badly you want to, you shouldn't be working customer service.
