I had an appointment scheduled with Jeremy. The night before, I became sick, and after seeing my doctor the next morning I was told I was very contagious (through skin) and needed to isolate. I called the salon as soon as they opened to cancel. No one answered, so I left a detailed voicemail. I also called multiple additional times throughout the day and never received a call back. To make sure they knew I wasn't just a no-show, I even went to the salon at the time of my appointment to explain in person, but the salon was closed, which confirms they received my message. Despite all of this, I was fully charged for the service the next day. Since then, I've continued calling and leaving messages, and no one has returned my calls or picked up the phone. Being charged after clearly canceling for medical reasons, with no way to reach anyone, feels extremely unethical. What's especially frustrating is that I did the responsible thing by not coming in while contagious- I could have just shown up sick, but I didn't want to put staff or other clients at risk. Instead of being treated fairly for doing the right thing, I was penalized for it. This was the last straw for me. Over the years I've had several disappointing appointments here with different stylists, and this time I was trying to give it one more chance. Instead, I was met with poor communication and a charge I didn't authorize. This is not how you run a business. I will not be returning. read more

Mercedes is an incredible, compassionate, and talented hairdresser who deserves a big shoutout for giving my mom a beautiful hair makeover in a last minute time frame. ON SATURDAY at 5pm (ONE HOUR) before closing, Jeremy and his crew was able to fit my mom in for a highlight and root touch up. Believe me when I say... "We went all over Kahului and Lahaina" to look for any salon that would take her without an appointment. This was our last stop, and didn't even realize that there was a salon in the LC Mall. Jeremy simply said "let's see what we can do", rather than a "No sorry, it's too late"... this simple gesture made a big difference in our day. We lost my dad a month ago and this was the first time my mom finally went out of the house. Mercedes, who did her hair...was careful and listened to all of my moms concerns. (She's highly sensitive to hair dyes and didn't want to go too short). The service was quite pricey but totally worth every single penny. Their products and services are top notch and of good quality. My mom couldn't stop talking about how much she loved her hair and how Mercedes really made her feel like she was taken care of. I had my hair cut with Jennie about 6 weeks ago and am still very unhappy with the results. My hair was past my waist and I thought I would be keeping a lot of that length. I requested 4-5" off and, based on my inspiration photo, expected the style would be smooth, the same long length all around with some subtle shorter pieces for movement/texture/avoiding a blunt bottom edge, and slightly shorter face framing pieces at the sides. The cut I received is a V-taper, with a small section reaching the original length I requested and the mid and highest parts of the "V" much shorter than desired. The slightly shorter pieces I expected all around turned out to be full layers with notable distance between the shortest layers and longest part of my hair. I was not shown the back of my cut when it was finished at the salon. Pre-cut, I expressed that I part my hair from the left, but was still told that the cut would be done with my hair parted down the middle. I wish I had insisted on my natural part because now, when parted to the side, there are more, shorter, layers on the right side. I was also told, at the start of the cut, that we would be doing a dry cut. This information should be shared with clients at the time of booking, so they know to come in with clean, straight hair. I have never before had a dry haircut at a professional salon and had I known this was the process at Salt + Hair I would have booked elsewhere. In our pre-cut discussion I expressed that I wanted a low maintenance cut, as I seldom style it. This cut is not low maintenance; when dried naturally or even blown dry the bottom half of it remains frizzy/fluffy and uneven. It needs to be straightened for the many layers to melt into each other or scrunched with gel for waves to hide them, neither of which are daily options for me. With most haircuts I leave with fresh, thick, healthy ends; the ends of my hair now are thinned out and I feel as if I already need another haircut. While the cut I received may not be completely "bad", it is not what I requested in the sense of style or length, and is uneven. Furthermore, I am pretty devastated about the amount of time it will take to grow out the majority of my hair that is now significantly shorter and more layered than desired. Based on what I requested and our pre-cut discussion, I never imagined I would walk out with a cut like this. All this being said, Jennie was kind, patient, and easy to talk with. I wish we had done a pre-cut consultation. read more

I tried to call and book online with several salons and couldn't find one to do a wash and blow dry for me. We were having family photos and a dinner for 25 people on the island. We all came to have a birthday celebration during Thanksgiving week. I knew it would be busy, but I got sidetracked with the event planning and didn't get my hair dealt with in time. I made a call at 9:45 am on November 23, and they squeezed me in! My hair turned out perfect and I was on my way in about 45 min. I was very pleased with the price and how it all turned out. The salon is inside the mall and it rivals some really nice salons in the San Francisco Bay Area. The hair station has super comfy sinks and I got an amazing scalp massage too! The kid that washed my hair was cool, but the fancy snooty owner who cut it, not so much, and when I got home and combed it had to trim it again myself as there parts that were noticeably longer. I asked for a cut and style and left with wet hair he fluffed with his fingers. A very expensive shampoo. This might fly with the tourists but hell be hard pressed to get return locals. read more
