Excellent seafood restaurant right on Mass ave. The service was excellent and the food amazing. We stopped in here on a whim and so glad we did. We had the best server, so friendly and recommend many things off the menu it was hard to decide but I was so happy with our choices. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the lobster Mac and cheese had a nice light sauce not heavy like so many other places do. Absolutely perfect dinner. It's been a long time since I've had great service and amazing food! Thank you Salt we will be back! read more

Brandon was our server and was INCREDIBLE!!!!! He was so sweet, friendly, and personable and gave such great recommendations for food. He was so much fun and made our overall experience memorable. The perfect spot for a great meal. I brought a date here and it totally killed. The drinks were awesome. Probably the best Old Fashioned I've ever had. The Kung Pao shrimp appetizer was loved. I had the scallops and my date the salmon. Both were amazing. If there is a better spot for seafood in Indy, then I haven't found it. read more

I've been wanting to the Salt for a while now and I finally went for a girls night. Parking was a bit of an adventure due to an event going on nearby. We all tried quite a few of menu items. The crab cakes were really good. I got the mango sangrita and it was just ok. Tasted more of the syrup than anything else. It worth a try for a night out. read more

Salt on Mass is terrific! It is a bit pricey but nice to treat yourself to a great night with great food. I can make a meal out of the crab cakes/balls alone! They are fantastic! The Lobster Mac n Cheese and Surf & Turf are fantastic! I do not however, recommend their Chocolate Cake. Although the presentation is nice and you get a large piece of cake that must be shared with others, the cake is dry and not worth the money. Great location and atmosphere. read more

The atmosphere at this establishment was nice. We sat on the outside patio as our travel attire was probably not upscale enough for this location but the service was great with delicious cocktails to start. This is a really great seafood restaurant. It's centrally located in downtown Indianapolis on the corner. The ambiance is very chill and relaxing. I loved the sea themed decor and the music was nice too. Our waiter was really pleasant and knowledgeable. Our drinks were strong and delicious! I got the faux gin fizz and the other drink was their strawberry lemonade mixed with Tito's. We had a really nice seat at the top overlooking the bar and it was great. It was ok. A bit pricey. Small portions. Menu seemed kind of limited , homogenous at the time with nothing seeming that appealing. Crab cakes were decent, jumbo cocktail shrimp were huge. This spot had this laid-back beachy feel, a real break from the usual Indy scene. The scallops and seabass were incredibly tender and mild. We tried a variety of sauces (lemon butter and chili lime), which added an interesting twist, but we had to request some salt for the table as it was a tad bland without it. Overall, though, the dishes were very fresh and delicious! You just have the Opera Cake. I am in different on chocolate, but this might've been the best dessert I've ever had . I had Tony as my server, and he was over the top amazing. Even more than I enjoyed his New York accent, his recommendations were all perfectly in line with the taste and experience I was looking for when I made my reservation. I initially sat outside, and the location of the restaurant allowed for a super enjoyable outdoor dining experience and people watching without having to feel watched. It began raining during my visit, and Tony and a coworker seamlessly moved my party indoors. Inside the lighting was amazing, incredibly romantic, comfortable seating. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, and several other dishes. All seasoned and prepared well. Like most quality sea food places in Midwest, Salt is a little pricey, with my meal coming up just shy of $200 for me and the other guest dining. Will definitely recommend and revisit. read more

We walked in and sat at the bar. We were greeted right away and given drink and food menus. The bartender told us the fish of the day and how the chef recommended ordering it. My boyfriend got the grouper with mango salsa on top of mashed potatoes and I got the parm crusted sea bass with broccolini with a lemon butter. Both entrees were delicious and gorgeous. Great location! Downtown was really busy this past Friday. We had reservations and we were seated right away. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I found it interesting that the manager spoke to a few tables but never bothered to ask us how our meal was ‍. Just something I noticed but overall the staff was great. The restaurant surprisingly didn't have a lot of people in it... our reservation was at 8 pm. The ambience had a chill ocean type vibe. Our waiter Jay was nice. Loved a waiter that knows his stuff! From drinks to the menu he was on point! He was very engaging and helpful since this was our first time there. We also talked to some of the other staff as they passed us with good looking food. The bread caught my eye and I'm SO GLAD IT DID!!!! I think that was my favorite thing there. It was fresh, hot and the butter was EVERYTHING! It reminded me of my Kerrygold garlic butter . YAAAS! Anyway we basically had appetizers for dinner. We tried a few things. We loved that they have all fresh seafood! No freezer on the property so they are pretty much at the mercy of the market which creates a fresh take on their menu and what they serve. There was nothing that really wowed me but the food was good. The bread (must have), Dungeness crab roll and the prawns were good! Unfortunately I didn't like the lobster mac and cheese but our overall experience was positive. The cream sauce didn't do anything for me. In other news, I met a wonderful lady there. She just came to our table and started talking to us. I guess she's a regular customer there. She was so cool we decided to connect and have lunch! First of all I love the location on Mass Ave - depending on the day/time you can find amazing parking all along Mass. the hostess staff were tremendously friendly & helpful. The ambiance was lovely and a perfect choice for a girls night. Our server was such a beaute and I'm mad I don't remember her name. I ordered the shrimp and grits along with a side car which was amazing! For the table we had crab cakes - whew they were fire. First off, our server Chris was amazing! I would come back just to sit in his section. The food was good. They are not stingy with their portions which is great! I tried their ceviche and they need to use shrimp instead of white fish. It wasn't as delectable as most Mexican restaurants that serve it. We were a party of 8 and everyone went with a special and was not disappointed. The drinks were also A-1. My only concern is that the table cleaners were moving so quickly that they took my broccolini and my fork and I had only had 3 bites. They were moving too fast and didn't ask if we were finished but Chris made it right. We had dessert last instead of first-like I always do. I love the spin on key lime pie which is more a cake and it was delish! The banana coconut pineapple cake was also very good but the key lime had me at first bite. read more

If you want the best seafood in Indy, check out Salt! Everything, and I mean everything, is worth trying. I've had a variety of the food; crab stuffed mushroom caps, shrimp cocktail, calamari, oysters (I don't even like oysters but I ate these!), filet mignon, lamb lollipops, buttermilk wedge, Mac & cheese, the list goes on! Since they are located on Mass you have to find parking on the street. This shouldn't be an issue unless you're going on a busy Friday or Saturday night. The parking battle is well worth it. For many years, this was the only restaurant along Mass Ave I hadn't tried mostly cause I didn't eat fish. Things have changed, and I finally got the check this space out. It was amazing. We oddly enough ordered many of the heavier, creamy-based dishes and we just ordered three apps/sides. They were all very, very tasty and not overly fishy, which is a win in my book. I ordered a mocktail, which wasn't the greatest, but it did the job and the service was also great. read more

What a wonderful place for an upscale dinner celebration. We came on a Monday with reservation and since there were multiple empty tables, I appreciated the hostess asked us our preference on table selection. We chose a large round table, which was elevated and perfect for a group of 6 to all see each other. Our waitress Chris was funny and did a great job! Our food came out timely and was delicious. First time visiting Salt and it was fantastic! For appetizers we enjoyed the skillet bread and the Kung Pao shrimp. Both were generous portions and delicious! The orange blossom honey butter for the bread was so good! For our entrees we enjoyed the sea bass with broccolini and the wreck fish with scallops and risotto. The flavors were delicious and we enjoyed every bite! What made our visit perfect was our server, Brandon. He was very friendly, had great suggestions regarding the menu, and kept my drink full! We tried Salt last night. We were hungry but no so hungry and after two days of meats we definitely needed a seafood break. Sat at the bar and ordered 3 appetizers, the rock shrimp, the calamari and the shrimp flat bread! Everything delicious. Nice crowd. The only issue, for me, was the very strong smell of food from the kitchen. Not sure if they had a poor ventilation last night but when we walked in for a moment we thought about leaving because of the smell. Glad we did not! read more

The lounge is much larger now, with additional seating and a cozy lounge area in the back featuring comfortable couches. It feels much more open while still keeping the intimate speakeasy atmosphere. This is one of my favorite places for craft cocktails because there's always something new to try. Their menu changes seasonally, so even if you've been before, you'll usually find new creations alongside their signature cocktails. The drinks are true works of art, both in flavor and presentation. On my most recent visit, I tried a cocktail off the Pride menu called the Stonewall, and it was absolutely delicious. It had a beautiful pink color, and I loved the glass it was served in. The presentation is always top notch. Service was good. The drink was also only $10, which is pretty cheap for the quality compared to other places. We didn't stay long this visit, but it's always one of my go to spots to relax, catch up with friends, and enjoy expertly crafted cocktails. An added bonus is that you can order food from Goodfellas Pizza and enjoy it while you're in the lounge, making it an even better experience.

There is some street parking but one of the pay surface lots or garages is probably the best bet. We spent $8.26 for two hours ($7 + fee) to park in the lot in front of the Bottleworks. It was a 3-minute walk. We were seated right away when we walked in. We were perhaps a little fortunate as I think next time I'd make a reservation. The one thing that was off-putting was the fact that they put a time limit on our meal. I thought I heard 90 minutes and my colleague thought 2 hours. We were not planning to be there any longer than that, but we all three thought that to be a negative. I understand why they do that, but they should re-think their approach to that policy. We chose to sit outside as it was a very nice evening. Their patio was nicely arranged and was a rather pleasant spot for a meal. Our server, Apple, did a good job taking care of us. The menu featured some excellent Thai and Southeast Asian choices. We started with the Spring Rolls which were wonderfully crispy and tasted very good. My colleagues had the Steak Drunken Noodles and the Chili Basil Pork and both returned good reports. I had the Penang Curry Chicken and was extremely happy with that. The spice level was perfect and it was quite tasty. Our final bill with food, drink, tax and tip was $101. At just under $34 per person, we were quite happy with the value. I'll look forward to returning.

I recently visited Salt for a birthday meal with my partner. This was my second visit. While the dining experience overall was enjoyable, I couldn't help but notice a significant flaw in the service provided by our waiter, who seemed restless and distracted throughout our meal. Let's start with the positives. The moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The tastefully decorated interior, soft lighting, and carefully chosen background music all contributed to creating a cozy and intimate setting. It was the perfect place to unwind and indulge in a wonderful dining experience... not to mention, they have a television in the bar area that was visible from my table with the Heat v. Celtics Game 3 on as an added bonus. The menu boasted an impressive variety of dishes. We started with the Artichoke Crab Pot which was delicious. I ordered Pan-Seared Diver Scallops atop a bed of mashed potatoes, and a Salt Ol' Fashion from the bar. The chef's expertise was evident in every bite we took. The scallops were cooked to perfection. The presentation of each dish was visually appealing, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal. The Salt Ol' Fashion was a bit strong, but tasty. I must applaud the kitchen and bar staff! However, as much as we relished the food and ambiance, our interaction with the waiter left a lot to be desired. From the moment they approached our table, it was apparent that something was amiss. He appeared fidgety, restless, and often struggled to maintain focus. We noticed he repeatedly coughed into his hand, rubbing his nose, leaning over tables, etc. While I understand that everyone has their own personal struggles, it was disconcerting to witness such behavior in a professional setting. It was difficult to shake off the feeling that our waiter might have been under the influence of some substance. His inconsistent and erratic behavior marred an otherwise delightful experience, leaving us with mixed feelings. Despite the waiter's demeanor, the other staff members were friendly and accommodating. They ensured that our dining needs were met, and their efforts helped to sailvage the overall dining experience. However, it is crucial for management to address such issues promptly and provide necessary support to their staff. We'd been once before, but it's a bit pricey, so it's been a while. Our server was delightful & very helpful. We ordered from the "ocean" section of the menu, which come with a sauce & side dish. (The chef has recommended pairings & you can ask your server what they are.) I had the scallops w/ lemon butter sauce & wanted the lobster risotto (for an upcharge). Our server suggested I get the brussel sprouts as my side & the lobster risotto a la carte. J got the pan seared tuna w/ the recommended orange blossom honey sauce & was told that any of the sides would go well w/ it, so chose the parm risotto. Our main dishes were served on top of the risotto w/ the sauce pooled around it. The brussel sprouts came in a side dish. The risotto portion felt a bit small....about half a cup? It was delicious, but I'm glad we got the brussel sprouts, too. They were tasty & a more generous portion (we split them). The butter sauce was good & I dipped the brussel sprouts in it, too. Maybe I was just overly hungry, but that wasn't enough so I ordered the lobster bisque after. It was nice, but came with what appeared to be crushed red pepper flakes on the top & I wasn't a fan of that particular topping. I tried the tuna. It was nicely seared, but I personally didn't care for the honey sauce & couldn't taste orange. We ordered two drinks; Dew of the Sea and Shoreline Fizz...both were excellent. Our server said they had a new oreo martini that they were trying out. I think we would have a drinking problem if we figured out how to make those at home. We finished up w/ the opera cake, which I was excited to try, after having seen them on cooking shows. However, it was *not an opera cake* and shame on me for not actually reading the whole description. It was a chocolate cookie crust on mousse....very tasty, but the internet doesn't support their name for this dessert. After all that, I wasn't overstuffed. If you are a big eater, perhaps look to the fish dishes. Tables near us got the kung pao rock shrimp & that seemed a generous portion. I think next time I might try ordering that as my main dish. The buttermilk wedge was...well, a wedge of lettuce, but also looked decent sized. The fillet next to us appeared perfectly cooked & tender. I had been eyeing Salt's menu for some time, but the prices were high enough that I didn't want to chance it not being amazing. So instead, the hubs and I went for Devour Indy. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the host and manager and seated promptly for our reservation. The dining area is open and inviting, with tables by the windows along Mass Ave. We started with a cocktail and browsed the wine list. I've recently delved into the Bourbon scene so I was excited to see they had many great bourbon options and a crafty Old Fashioned on their menu. To start, we decided to try the Hawaiian Poke as an appetizer on the regular menu. Oh man, I'm glad we did. It was $18 and we definitely received $18's worth of poke. Nice sized chunks of tuna, sliced cucumbers and fresh jalapenos in an amazing caramel soy concoction topped with tobiko. I would be happy just having that for dinner with a salad some night. For Devour, they gave an option for salad (Wedge or Caesar), four entree options and key lime cheesecake for dessert. I had the Wedge sans bacon and the hubs ordered the Caesar. My only complaint with the entire meal comes down to the salad. Keep in mind, this is the only thing I could find wrong with the entire experience, and it's really being quite picky. The salad plates were warm. Seems like this is the type of restaurant that would keep their salad plates cold. For the entree I ordered the Pan Seared Chilean Sea bass with the Parmesan Risotto. It was so good and so rich, I couldn't finish it all. The fish was flaky, crispy from the sear and dipped in the lemon butter, just melted in my mouth. The hubs ordered the Grilled Verlasso Salmon with orange blossom honey sea salt. I'm not a fan of salmon as it's still a bit too fishy for me; however, I tried his and loved it. It was sweet, flavorful and just delicious. The brussel sprouts were also outstanding. Lastly, the cheescake. Layers of spongy type cake in between whipped cream cheese flavored with key limes, a bit of white chocolate in there as well...hell yeah. I loved everything about this experience. Salt on Mass is one of--if not my favorite--restaurants in Indianapolis! From the ambiance to the exceptional service, Salt truly knows how to create an amazing dining experience. I recently visited and tried a few dishes that blew me away. First, we tried the Caesar salad, which might sound simple, but it was done exceptionally well. This was a perfect, refreshing start to the meal! As a table, we all shared the Yellow Fin Tuna, Prime Ribeye, and Parmesan Risotto with Lobster. First, the Yellow Fin Tuna was amazing--it was fresh, perfectly seared, and seasoned just right--every bite set a high bar for the rest of the meal. The ribeye was expertly cooked and bursting with flavor in every bite. It was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife. The Parmesan Risotto with Lobster was the highlight of my night. I'm a seafood lover so I have a high standard for eating seafood. Salt on Mass delivered outstanding and delicious freshness with catches flown in daily accompanied by locally sourced sides. Service was friendly and kind and efficient. The setting is beautiful with large windows and a corner location that allows you to enjoy your meal while watching the buzz of activity outside on very hip Mass Ave, and all within sight of downtown skyscrapers. My friend and I ordered scallops and the catch of the day, both of which were prepared perfectly and deliciously. A nice wine list and a great bar area also add to the superlatives. The nautical vibe is underscored by blues and pale woods that make it feel like a cross between South Florida and Cape Cod. Overall experience was great! Indianapolis is lucky to have its own version of stylish East Coast seafood place that delivers on quality, taste, and service with Hoosier hospitality. It's a 5 star! read more

My boyfriend and I went to Salt for the first time last Saturday night. My boyfriend is not a huge seafood fan, so he was a littttle bit skeptical about the place! Our waiter, Brandon, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with our food decisions! We had the Kona Tacos for an appetizer, split the Hawaiian Sashimi Tuna & Hawaiian Walu for dinner, & ended with the chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was incredible- accompanied by glasses of sparkling rose and old fashioneds. We didn't tell the waiter that we were celebrating a special occasion, so when he brought out an extra round of drinks on the house we were so surprised!! The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed, which made it perfect for catching up. The food was absolutely phenomenal! Each dish was full of flavor and beautifully done. Salt is easily my favorite seafood spot in the city right now. Being right on Mass Ave, it has such a sleek, modern energy that's perfect for a night out, and the atmosphere inside is just cool without trying too hard. The food is always incredible! Everything tastes so fresh and the presentation is always on point, which really makes the experience. I've been here many times, and while the staff isn't always the friendliest, the meal itself is consistent. It's the perfect balance of a great scene and even better food, so even with the hit-or-miss service, it's still a solid 4/5 for me. Delmonte roll, Toro (tuna belly!) absolutely wonderful and I enjoyed it to the last bite. Lobster roll, lots of lobster in a light dressing of kimchi mayo on top of the veggie roll. Presentation, all of the dishes came out looking very appetizing. Dessert, Lemon Possette, is fabulous! Custard like but creamier/looser towards the bottom with jam and fresh tanneries on top. It's difficult to stop eating! Chris, the owner, took the time to stop at our table and have a lovely conversation with us and we're so glad he created this touch of Monterey (CA) here in central Indiana.
