After riding 19 miles on the Katy Trail, our group of 10 were ready for some BBQ. With it being a weekend and Main Street, please make the following notes: 1. Street parking will be limited 2. There are no bike racks in front of the restaurant With it being Mother's Day weekend, we had a bit of wait but not too long. They were able to seat us in the "attic" where the fan was blowing. Our lovely waitress took our orders for water and other drinks right away. I have only been to the Delmar location so I was very impressed with the natural lighting (it's more intimate and little darker at the Delmar location) and how fast team members worked together to get our food and drinks out. This appears to be their standard that many other local restaurants could take heed to. I ordered a pineapple margarita which had a Tajín rim and was nice and refreshing. I usually get the Bestie Platter but switched it up and got a Brisket Grilled Cheese Sandwich. I'm not a huge fan of American Cheese but this pairing with pimento cheese layered with the brisket and tomato aioli hit the spot. The buttery bread brought it all together and was not soaked by the sauces etc. My side was beef fat fries (fries cooked in tallow) that I shared with those who had never had any and they were delighted. I went here along with my friends, one who had tried this place and loved it, and the other who was trying for the first time. Both had a great experience and really enjoyed their food! I was tagging along as the vegan friend, so while I understand this restaurant is not intended for plant-based eaters, I still want to share my experience. I believe that if a restaurant decides to offer a vegan/vegetarian or plant-based menu option, they should make that food option on-par with the quality of the restaurant. Sadly, this option was nowhere near quality. The Falafel Burger, while sounding great in theory, failed to meet a bare minimum standard of enjoyment. Once I put the top bun on and picked up my burger, both the buns and patty began to crumble and fall apart. The flavor was lacking, and the texture was quite grainy from the buns, and mushy from the patty. I have been to many restaurants that offer some sort of veggie burger option, and the majority have been at minimum a nice and decent option, and some even quite good or great! I was very disappointed with this meal, as the rest of the experience was lovely! Friendly staff, beautiful location and atmosphere (we sat outside.) I did enjoy a lovely drink from the bar, the Walnut Old Fashioned, which was the best part of my meal. We came in for lunch on a chilly Friday and I ordered the two item brisket and rib plate. Both meats were dry, over-cooked and tasteless! You may not have the traffic during winter to serve a freshly prepared product, but this was unacceptable! Take heed, management, if you can't put out a consistent product, you should consider a seasonal closure. At the very least you need to step up your game! read more

We've been patrons of Salt+Smoke since it only had one small location on Delmar years ans year ago. We visited Friday (3/28/25) and couldn't find any photos of the fried pickles so we thought, "what the heck" and ordered em anyway so we could provide yall with some! The white cheddar mac is an absolute must have. If you've been here and haven't had it, you're missing out! The meat is always tender, flavorful and the perfect base for their homemade sauces should you choose to use them (they aren't really needed but theyre there for a reason!). I typically order the pulled pork sandwich but we had a gift card so I figured why not go bigger...and I was STUFFED..couldn't even finish the sides (which made me sad because theyre that good lol). My husband always appreciates how the ribs aren't extra for the combo and has grown to love smoked wings, so those two options are perfect for anyone who feels the same way. Delicious but innovative approach to traditional favorites. We started off with the beef brisket rav and then enjoyed the pork BBQ sandwich plate and beef brisket plate. You get one side dish when you order the plate. There is a lot of food but make sure to save room for the bourbon pecan pie! I would have taken a picture of it, but it didn't last for too long! The restaurant is very cozy and charming. It does tend to get very loud because it is a small space but you can always enjoy the outside dining area. Great meal! Excellent ambiance with a large outdoor patio (and looks like they sometimes do outdoor live music). Food was excellent! Other than the kids pulled pork sandwich that came out with basically a huge blob of fat covering all the meat (not even my carnivore bbq-loving self would've been interested in that... let alone a kid!) - not sure how that made it by their kitchen, expeditor, and server to put in front of a child! But they quickly fixed it for us as there was plenty of service staff around. The ribs were phenomenal, along with the fries, hush puppies, mac n cheese. Basically everyone at the table loved everything they had! Of note the burger is basically a smash burger style and was a tiny patty, that one of our guests had to order a second patty. I think this can be something that is either clarified on the menu or by the server, or better yet, changed by the kitchen to be more of an actual burger. I have been here multiple times. Primarily because everyone else in the group wants to go. The ambiance is good and a chill spot with nice outdoor seating. The service has almost always been extremely fast. First and second visits included the bologna sandwich which was good and cherry smoked wings. The wings had great flavor. On the third visit the wings had rubbery skin. Next visit was brisket which was extremely fatty and very little meat. There were a few visits in between my last one where I wasn't impressed. The last visit had a brisket grilled cheese which was greasy but good. I'd recommend anyone to try Salt and Smoke and form their own opinions. They are obviously doing something right, given the fact that there is always a steady stream of patrons here. The BBQ sauces are good. read more

Wonderful spot in historic st Charles! Our favorites are the sticky fingers Trashed Ribs with white bbq sauce and combo plate. We had a baby and a toddler with us this time and we're so appreciative that they seated us in a corner table with umbrella giving us space to maneuver the car seat and some room for toddler to move (after carrying the stroller up 2 flights of short stairs). Their outdoor firepit was awesome. Our waitress was good, but there were some issues with our orders. I think it was the kitchen staff who were having issues. One person ordered and item with no onions, but still were onions on it. I ordered a half salad with salmon and a side of brisket chili, but mine didn't come out. The waitress resolved the issue. The chili was lukewarm warm though. I thought the salmon would be more Smokey than it was, but honestly the smoked salmon we make at home is way better. I'd like to say that by no fault of their own our group of 30 had booked a dinner at Salt + Smoke. Unfortunately, we were supposed to be in St. Louis and not St. Charles. When we arrived in St. Charles, the staff was very confused as to why we were there. After everything got worked out, the St. Charles location was able to scramble to accommodate us. Fern was so helpful in the work around and communication with St. Louis, and Jackson our waiter was very gracious and quick to make sure that we were taken care of. The food was excellent. Big big shoutout to my dear newlywed friends who got married in St. Charles and recommended this place on their wedding website's "things to do" section, emphasizing the white cheddar mac and cheese. They were absolutely correct. It was a pretty long wait to get in, for both indoor and outdoor seating. The St. Charles area is super cute to walk around, and it gave us to chance to get a $10 card for my friend's wedding. Once we finally got seated on their lovely and expansive multi-level outdoor patio, we were ravenously hungry. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, so we started with the pimento chess toasted ravioli. So delicious. And the sauce they came with was addictive. We then got a four meat combo with ribs and brisket. This was also delicious. I don't think the sauces made it better. The star of the show, however, is the white cheddar cracker mac. Good lord. I would and could make love to that mac and cheese. Overall, very good experience once we got seated. In town for work and wanted to try to stl bbq spots, this was the first in tried. Overall very solid; I ordered carry out and it was ready in about 15 minutes. First and best were the smoked wings (9/10). Smoked wings are my favorite food; and I always have thought that good smoked wings are fall off the bone; and these definitely were! I got the dry rub that was also great. Next up dry rub ribs (8/10); dry rub was tasty and meat was fall off the bone, I just wish they were bigger/meatier. Not sure if that's just St Louis style but the ribs were definitely not what I would consider "big". Kale salad (9/10); this was an absolutely great side salad; lots of fresh and tasty toppings. Would definitely consider ordering the entree salad in the future. Green beans (5/10); nothing special, also was surprised they were served cold and not warm. I ordered the brisket burnt ends which was seasoned well and white Mac and cheese was good as well . Pit beans were on my radar as well. All these dishes were good but Luke warm . I ordered two tequila sunrises and they were just ok as well. I have frequented this franchise before and it was the same service as this one. Visited this establishment based on all of the positive feedback regarding their food. Here is my honest opinion. I had really high hopes on how the food was going to taste based on all of the 5 Star reviews, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype that I was expecting. The gentleman at the front was very welcoming and told us we can seat wherever we wanted so we chose a table towards the back. Soon after our waitress Jennifer came over to take our drink orders and bring us our menu's. My husband decided on ordering the 4 meat plate, two servings of the burnt ends, ribs and chicken wings with creamed corn and the brisket chili for his sides. I just ordered the macaroni and cheese and the brisket chili and I would just try some of the brisket burnt ends that he ordered with his meal. Our food came out pretty quickly and our waitress brought out an extra complimentary popover for the both of us to have our own since I didn't order a plate meal. Now for my assessment of the food. Upon my first glance I thought my macaroni and cheese was bananas pudding because of the white cheese being so plentiful and the crumbs on top. Over all it tasted ok, but not like the macaroni and cheese that I'm used to . Way too much sauce and not enough noodles and kind of lacked in flavor, I would give it a 5 out of 10. The brisket chilli had lots of shredded brisket and the beans were plentiful I would give it a 7 out of 10. The burnt ends were tender with a nice smoke flavor, but unfortunately they were more fatty than I would have liked. I would give them a 8 out of 10, for the meat that I was able to eat. My husband said his ribs were a bit too chewy, the wings were good, his creamed corn which is usually on the sweet side wasn't and he said it lacked flavor. Interesting Place in Historic Area We were on a trip from Illinois to Florida with a stop over in the St. Louis area and needed to get bbq. We checked various review sites and decided on this one. We went there after sunset and sadly we didn't see much of the old buildings or décor that line the cobblestone Main St. It is a hot spot for locals and was quite busy for a Wednesday night. Most of the shops were closed, but Salt and Smoke was open and bustling. They have a great patio for outdoor dining, or just to share some time over drinks. We sat inside as it was just a little too cool outside for us. You can tell it's an old place with newer updates. The Bar Menu is fairly expansive that includes a good selection of draft beers and house special cocktails. This is the place to visit if you want to try whiskeys and bourbons. I suspect there's at least 200 to choose from. I started with a Urban Chestnut O Katz Marzen Lager and chased that with a Old Bakery Citrus Wheat. Both on tap at $8.00 per pint. As I think back now, we should have tried the Fried Chicken Skins on the Appetizer Menu. They are a fairly new foodie item and we have yet to try them. As it was late, we wanted to try a few things, but not eat a large meal, so we selected the Bestie Combo 2 ($20.99). We opted for brisket and ribs as our two meats along with Beef Fat Fries and the Green Bean and Tomato Salad as our sides. It also comes with a Bacon and Cheddar Popover. It was only a short wait until our meal came out. We wasted no time getting into the fries. It's true, fries fried in beef fat are excellent. They taste great. The Bean and Tomato Salad is cold and was tossed in a vinaigrette. A light, fresh taste. As for the meats, our server said this would be plenty for the two of us to share. Not for us - three St. Louis pork ribs and two chunks of brisket. While smoked and seasoned well, there wasn't enough of either to try bites with the different bbq sauces they have on the table. I found my finger to work well for trying their sauces and one sauce was better than the next. The popover was killer. I wish we could have ordered a basket of them. Order heavier on the meats if there's a couple of you and do an appetizer to have a filling meal. read more
