Quarantine Eats #53: Decided to try something a little different and ordered takeout from here last Wednesday for lunch. The order was sent on time by the delivery guy, and the food itself smelled very appealing and homey. The two bentos consisted of 4 stir fried/braised dishes each with well-cooked white rice. I particularly enjoyed the aromatic griddle shredded cabbage and the moo shoo pork dishes. The spicy stewed beef rice noodle's broth was packed with spiciness, but provided a nice compliment to the bentos. Definitely worth a try for anyone craving some down to earth chinese food!

pic taken after started eating .. imagine there's an extra piece of fish, 1/3 more on the lotus root stir fry and few more string beans :)

Missing Saltalk in Foster City farmer's market after pandemic started and found out they do delivery so giving it a try on their bento. Portion/Price: Fair given the distance between their location/my home. It's like 25-30% more comparing to those combo one can get from deli in grocery store. However, the quality is definitely better Quality: Few notches up comparing to deli in grocery store. Similar idea in offering varieties and Saltalk uses better ingredients. Ordered two bento; among the six dishes, the bean curd with shredded pork is the best. The sweet/sour belt fish is a surprise. (Was worried that it could be too fishy and it's not at all) Other dishes could use less oil but surely smell good. Service: the update from app txt message is right on spot! Even it's running later than schedule (not a big problem if one has flexible schedule), the estimate is accurate and the food is still warm after 1.5 hours from the time of preparation Would I order again? Yes for two reasons: support small businesses and like the varieties. Probably will mix bento with the other chef specials they offer.

The unedible sago dessert with papaya. They didn't even throw any papaya inside

Heard this service from my neighbor. I ordered beef with peppercorn, egg salted custard mooncakes, and sweet sago with papaya. First we received an email confirmation along with our order also the pickup place. However, they didn't provide any tracking or the exact time when the food will be ready to be picked up. They provided the phone number of the pick up location, even so, they only said food will be ready after four pm. They should have said it in the very beginning. Why I gave this service two stars? Because the sweet sago dessert with papaya was NOT even edible. I posted the pictures of before and after I touched the food. First I tasted the sago that looked yellow cream with few mini tapioca balls, the taste was very weird. Like you had a sour coconut cream that had been sitting in the fridge for so long. That exact same taste and odor. So I tried to heat the dessert up, since my neighbor said it's supposed to be served hot. It still tasted the same weird flavor, very punget odor of broken/ sour coconut milk, I couldn't even digest it so I had to throw the whole dish. Glad it was only costed me $3.50. I'd already have asked for a refund if it costed me more than $5. Mooncakes: Another disaapointing dish. I don't read/speak chinese. However, they didn't provide any instruction in English that the mooncakes were supposed to be heated up in microwave for about 5-7seconds upon serving. They posted an instruction but in mandarin on the back of the package. How was I even suppose to know? Very disorganized. I tried to heat up the mooncakes a day after, and they were not even melted at the center. Such a dissapointment. Will not buy from this service anymore.

I have ordered from Saltalk many times both for my family and for corporate lunches. I am originally from Shanghai and have lived in NYC for many years before moving to the Bay Area and have high standard when it comes to Chinese food. Saltalk is by far the best when it comes to the taste and the service. Owners use only high quality fresh ingredients and really listen to their customer for feedback. A few of their dishes are my all time favorite: 1) Shanghainese short ribs 糖醋小排骨 (juicy and tender, perfect balance with sugar and vinegar) 2) spicy beef combination 夫妻肺片: it's a cold beef appetizer soaked in Sichuan hot sauce, very authentic 3) Braised Beef Roll牛肉煎饼: it's a Chinese beef burrito, so healthy and delicious. All of their dishes are good. Their soup used to be free and it's probably the best free soup ever. They charge for the soup now but only for $1. Don't miss it :) Sometimes even if I don't order from them, I still like to browse through their menu, it changes daily and has many authentic Chinese dishes that I can't easily find in other restaurants. Their menu reminds me of home.

recently visited their kitchen and it was nice. Everything smells so good. They cooked their dishes every morning and afternoon and put them in bags for the delivery. They only pick live seafood to cook their seafood dishes.

Ordered Chicken with jelly, Spanish and soup of the day.

Solid Chinese comfort food! Saltalk is THE place to order dinner for house parties when no one wants to cook. It is convenient and the price is reasonable. The most important is that the food is delicious, reminds me of what my mom cooks.@-@ Quite jealous people who live in the valley and really wish they could expand to SF soon. Highly recommend the spicy duck, pepper chicken and soup of the day.

Terrible experience! Customers be aware of the dreadful attitude that comes from the owner! The worst ever in the US, period. Delivery came late for dinner. Every dish looked awful and taste awful. They looked nothing like what they show in their menu. We opened all of them, and they all appeared dark brown and carelessly put together. The fish, oyster tofu and the soup were not fresh. They have this disgusting taste of bad ingredients. The soup was like a white plain pork water which also smelled disgusting. They were basically not edible. You have no idea of what kind of low-quality stuff is in there. All the dishes they delivered were cold! It's not mentioned on their front page. You have to open a separate page to find that tricky spot. Food looks nice on their home page, but what you get is not only reduced in size but also not even close to the photos. When we complained about what we had experienced, they got mad and told us to feel free to report them to local business regulators whatever. They even criticized us and questioned us "what do you expect to get when you pay $7 a dish?" They are not sorry about anything of what we had to receive at all. They told us that their business is still in deficit for their 2 years of operation. Guess who is the problem here? There's no excuse that you sent bad food to customers and provided horrible customer services! You cut the quality of people's food, you reduce the size, you deliver stale dishes. That's why you loss! People, communities, companies stay away from this bad business!!!!

I'm a picky eater and I can cook pretty well. With this standard, I rarely write a raving review. Saltalk.com impresses me with the authentic home cooking and the fresh quality. They use natural and organic ingredients, which adds to the quality that they deliver! I'll definitely make more orders.

The only pickup location is Victor Court, San Jose. Can we pick up at 1334 S Mary Ave, Sunnyvale still?

Hi Denise, our current central kitchen is located at 3334 Victor Ct, Santa Clara. So this is the only place to pick up. We provide free delivery for any order $25+.

Is it possible to place an order and pick up from your business?

Yes. Step 1: Add dishes into your cart Step 2: Select 'Shipping to another address' in the check…

Why bento box w/o rice is more expensive than w/ rice?

That's a good questions! Because if you want the bento with rice, it will take some space out of the other dishes hence the overall portion of the dishes is lesser. Hope it helps!

The fried tofu has the most incredible texture, it's like chewy but also soft and sort of juicy at the same time. The baguette is also top tier and really brings the whole sandwich together. Highly highly highly recommend.

Overall Rating: 4.2…read more I've ordered these cookies at least 4-5 times now, and at this point I'm convinced there's some kind of cookie sorcery happening in that kitchen. These things just don't miss. There are a ton of positives and only a couple of nitpicks, so for my first 4-star Yelp review, this one's is going to be good. Chocolate Chip Pecan This flavor is definitely one of them ones. The minion size is soft, warm, and loaded with gooey chocolate when you break the cookie apart. The chocolate leans on the sweeter side, which I personally enjoy, though I can see it being a bit much for some people. I was honestly a little nervous about the pecans because I thought they'd overpower the cookie. Nope. They added just enough nuttiness and reminded me of a soft nougat, balancing out the sweetness without stealing the spotlight. The monster size is equally impressive. It's about the size of those Costco food court cookies... except better. It has a slight crisp on the outside, stays soft in the center, and every bite is packed with melty chocolate and pecan again. White Chocolate Pecan The white chocolate pecan is similar to the chocolate chip version, but with white chocolate instead. It has the same soft texture and balanced sweetness, and if you enjoy white chocolate, it's a solid option. Salted Chocolate Chip The salted chocolate chip was the only flavor that didn't quite hit for me. It's flatter, almost like a smash burger patty, and while I know it doesn't use dark chocolate, I picked up a slight bitterness. The salt also came on a little stronger than I prefer. My fiancée actually liked this one more than I did, so this may just come down to personal taste again. The prices are fair, the owner is a cool dude, and after several orders they've earned my trust. I still have a few flavors left to try, but if they're anywhere near the chocolate chip pecan, I'm not too worried. I'll definitely be placing another order soon.
