Everything was delicious We arrived right at opening in the morning. There was already a line. We did get yelled at for blocking the entrance but that's okay, it's a fire hazard so they had to be firm and tell us. Lots of seating and bar seating. I liked the decor and merch they had to look at while waiting in line. For food, we got the Hong Kong toast, salmon toast, longanisa sandwich and the smash burger sandwich. The Hong Kong toast was so so good! The bread holds up really well with the condensed milk and Nutella's. Portion is big for us so we saved half for later. I had the salmon toast on like a sesame bread I think it was and it was good. I thought it came with avocado but that's me not reading the description well. I did get a lot of salmon and pickled leeks. The leeks were different but hey it was season. My son liked the lifnanisa sandwich but he felt that it he meat dint hold the traditional Filipino flavors. Drinks were good. My son liked the cinemas iced coffee and my daughter liked the matcha cloud. First time trying Milk Belly again after they opened up their storefront! Their potato tostones were just as delicious as I remembered. I first experienced Milk Belly when they were a ghost kitchen in Ruff Dr. (and I was a repeat customer), so it's pretty cool to see them have their own shop serving unique Asian-inspired baked goods and sandos. This spot is located near San Pedro Square, around the Mini Boss and F1rst Cafe area, next to Pastelaria Adega. Parking is either lot parking or street parking due to the nature of being downtown. When I got here, there was no line. However, I will say they were slammed with pickup orders. When you order your food, it goes into the same queue as pickup orders, even if you ask for it "for here," just as a heads up. Because of that, it took quite a while for my partner and me to receive our food. When we were here, I ordered their Dirty Hojicha Latte and man, this drink blew my mind. I was not expecting to be so wowed by it. This might have been the best cream top I've ever had. The peanut butter flavor paired so well with the hojicha. For food, we ordered the Spam and Egg Sando, the Breakfast Sando, and the Potato Tostones. For the sandos, I really enjoyed the fluffiness of their shokupan. It worked really well together and wasn't so soft that the sandwiches felt soggy. Each sando had its own unique sauce that I enjoyed. The sauce on the Spam and Egg had a nice Kewpie and sriracha flavor going on, whereas the Breakfast Sando was citrusy and cilantro-forward. Our favorite dish was the potatoes, though. There were loads of baby potatoes, fried and coated with fatty olive oil. It was so good. Additionally, I have picked up their Black Sesame Sourdough before and enjoyed it thoroughly. I like the typical shokupan you can find in Japan (I guess they're called milk bread in US) so I've been wanting to check this place out and I finally got a chance to try it out. I got the longanisa sando. The bread was just like the typical shokupan you can find in japan. Fluffy, with a hint of sweetness. The sando's meat worked very well with the sandwich. The egg was a very nice combination too. My only complaint is that the egg could've also been fluffier, more soft and raw where egg here was pretty hard and firm. Also, it would've been good to have egg flavored with dashi or more butter, but that's all just my personal preference. The cheese really bind the meat and the egg well. What I have to mention is the habanero sauce (Or I think it was? You can see in the pic the label was kinda washed out so I'm not sure exactly what the sauce was). Perfect amount of spicy kick and a sweetness combined. Using the sauce really took up the sandwich by a notch but it might not be for everyone since it is rather spicy. Yes, I dined inside for a good half hour. The salmon toast turned out much smaller in sourdough size and portions than expected. It was the smallest and finest thin toast I've ever had, but the flavors are very good for smoked salmon with the house vinaigrette and pickled veggie bits. It was unique. I would not recommend the viet coffee, it's nothing like the typical flavor profile/ strength of a viet coffee. It tasted like a regular milky latte. There was also a line (which I didn't mind as much as it gave me some time to figure out what to get) and the servers were extremely busy (to the point where they couldn't take my order immediately because they had to sort out other things, which I don't blame them for) but also very friendly. We decided to get the Hong Kong Milk Toast, the breakfast sando, and the egg salad sando. The Breakfast and Egg Salad sandos were amazing (though the Egg Salad one did get a little bit messy) while the Hong Kong Milk Toast was just okay. We do have a preference of savory over sweet, but the Hong Kong Milk Toast just tasted like a standard peanut butter sandwich that happened to have a really nice milk toast texture. What surprised me the most was the Hong Kong Milk Toast -- I grew up hating peanut butter with a passion, but the hint of peanut butter didn't irk me. Milk Belly Bakery open at 9AM, I arrived at 10:15AM and there was already a line out of their door! They definitely a hot spot that everyone want to check out in DTSJ. This place is such a vibe, from Ghibli arts hanging on the wall to the shelf full of Twinkle Twinkle figures, it's so unique and artistic in it own way, especially their logo and sign, so adorable. Staffs were friendly and welcoming, the cashier was funny and telling us jokes while taking our orders. Even they were extremely busy the workers attitude were very chill, and their teamwork was efficient, everybody focus on their task and making sure orders were done correctly and being serve as fast as they possibly can. We waited for about 30mins in line and ordered: Breakfast Sando, Fruit Sando, Hong Kong Milk Toast, and Shokupan. It took about 15mins for the food to be ready but during that time customers can have a seat at either the bar and table section and watch how their open kitchen operate. I had the warmed Shokupan in store, at first I wasn't impressed, it tasted more like a thicker version of Korean Salt Bread, but later on the chewiness texture and the enhanced buttery taste kind of grew into me. Rest of the food was for to-go, both of the sando tasted amazing, the bread was soft and toasted to perfection! The egg inside the breakfast sando was so fluffy and soft, bacon was crispy. Meanwhile, the mandarin inside the fruit sando was juicy and sweet, the cream was so smooth and the almond layer outside really help add some texture to it. My favorite definitely the Hong Kong French Toast, that peanut butter jam mixed with condensed milk combo was heavenly, I usually like savory food for breakfast but I won't mind eating this as my first meal everyday if I can. It almost felt like one of the ones I had at the konbini in Japan! Perfect amounts of sweet, salty, and tang from the mango. The bread was perfectly plush. Dare I say, the best milk bread I've had in the bay. If I had the time, I would definitely come back here for a loaf whenever I'm craving it. Personally I thought the potato tostones were nothing super special and a little oily/heavy for my taste. The scones, however, were simply delicious. They had an addicting crumbly texture that was the perfect balance between not too dry and moist. I loved the icing on top and the little fruit bits inside too. Seriously the best scones I've had! I would say skip on the salt bread though. It was quite dry and also not warm when served to us. Staff are all super nice and friendly. Located in downtown San Jose, Milk Belly Bakery is known for their Japanese sando (sandwiches.) They offer up the traditional egg sando and a bunch of American ones too. There is ample street parking on the same street and the streets adjacent. Walking into the restaurant, you order at the counter and then find a seat along the far wall. We went with the Smash burger sando ($13) and the longanisa sando ($13) The smash burger sando was incredible. They gave two smashed patties between extra buttery slices of toast. There was a little bit of sauce and flavoring, and it was like taking a bite out of the dankest burger you could think of. The longanisa sandwich had a generous scramble egg with a longanisa sausage cut lengthwise. I'm more accustomed to those fat short longanisa sausages so was surprised to find this longer variety. I kind of wish they added a bit more sausage because it mostly tasted of egg. That being said, it was also delicious and was a nice contrast to the very heavy smash burger. Saw this place on a Bay Area eats IG and had to come try it for myself!! Vibes here are super cute and cozy. LOVE the Ghibli decor! We split a Smash Sando (basically a burger but instead of buns, it was with the sando bread) and the Longanisa Sando, and also got the Matcha Cloud latte. The Longanisa one was pretty good, but the star was the Smash sando for me. I loved how the patty was juicy, and slightly sweet. I think if I got a classic sando, I would've loved the Longanisa one more, but because the Smash was so strong and flavorful, the Longanisa paled in comparison. The matcha cloud latte was pretty good; I think I could've used more cream at the top, but the matcha flavor was very strong and earthy. Parking is mostly street, but there is a garage with 90 min free a block away. Staff was really nice and our food came out in decent time. I imagine it may feel a little slow if there was a huge line, but we were able to order right away when we came in (probably because we went on Dec 23 lol). read more

I have know about Milk Belly for a while now. Since they were just going to farmer's markets, I have followed them in my socials to see what they doing. I was so happy to hear they got a brick and mortar in San Jose! Close to me yay! The bakery/restaurant looks small in front, but they actually got to fit plenty of tables and chairs without it feeling super crowded. I love the aesthetics of the place. You order on the front, find a seat, and they call your name and order to be picked up at the counter. We tried a couple things in our visit. The sandos and some pastries. I really love their milk bread and tamago sando. If this place was even closer to me I would go here just to get those all the time. The other pastries were good too, I think they were not made by them but by another bakery. Highly recommend this place. Also, parking can be difficult, only street parking and parking garages (located in downtown SJ). read more

MY FAVORITE WAY TO START A SATURDAY MORNING! Y'all, if I could go to Milk Belly every day, I would. Their pastries, their bread, their hot food, and their drinks are ALL a ten out of ten. The staff are always so friendly and sweet even when they're busy as heck with the morning rush. They also have a decent amount of seating for you to enjoy your meal if you want to dine in. Line can be long if you come later. Bring a jacket just in case you are in the element as the line continues outside. Their breakfast sandos are delicious! It's quite healthy in terms of volumes so be sure to share with someone. Adding the hot sauce really enhances the flavor. It's not crazy hot so try it out. Inside is a bit small and has limited seating areas. You can also sit at the bar in the back to watch them in action. Great place for morning bites and sips. Finally got to try their famous sandos! Came by around 10am on a Saturday morning. The line was several parties long but moved fairly quickly. However, the dine-in seating was completely full. The staff member taking our order let us know we'd likely only be able to do takeout, which was our original plan anyway. The two of us shared a Japanese egg salad sando and a longanisa sando. The longanisa one was such a pleasant surprise! The meat was so juicy and, while salty, paired well with the bread. The star of the show for us though was the kabocha pie. A nuttier, earthier twist on pumpkin pie. I wish we had gotten more than just a slice... I also would love to come back for a brioche loaf to just have at home. Overall, it definitely lived up to the hype but just be prepared for a wait and perhaps being unable to dine in. read more
