Hadn't been in a while, but we used to come here for my son's birthday steak dinners, so we decided to swing by the weekend before his birthday for some nostalgia. Kaetlin was a great server -- attentive the whole night. We started with the fried mozzarella (comes with marinara), which was solid. For mains, we got two bone-in ribeyes, both ordered medium rare -- one came out noticeably more done than the other, which was a bit disappointing, but both were well-seasoned. Sides were a mixed bag: the wedge salad was great, and the smoked mac n' cheese (an old favorite of ours) was right on point. The grilled asparagus fell a little short though -- some spears barely had any grill marks on them. We were already stuffed by the end, but my son has a sweet tooth so we got the chocolate cake anyway. Kaetlin brought out a massive slice with a huge scoop of ice cream, and the three of us could barely finish it between us. Genuinely some of the best chocolate cake I've had. The problem with chain restaurants is the inconsistency across locations.... But I have to say, Saltgrass SHENANDOAH never disappoints. I've always had an amazing meal and stellar service at The Woodlands location. Well seasoned steaks - cooked to the right temp & sear, a vast selection of appetizers and sides, Happy Hour offered M-F from 3pm-7pm, and if you're a member of the Landry's Club you get additional perks. Our favorite menu items are Quail Bites (seasonal), 16 oz Pat's Ribeye (cooked medium with extra seasoning and hard sear), Cattleman's Prime Rib (end cap!), garlicky Mashed Potatoes, and caramelized Brussels Sprouts. Music was very loud. I think they're going for that Honky Tonk atmosphere. I just want a competent restaurant. The first loaf of bread they brought out to us was crusty and stale, but I was hungry so I ate it anyway the second loaf was tolerable. I just want it simple like a chopped steak, but the texture of the chop steak was a disgusting soupy mass. I just don't understand how you can get that wrong. What could you improve One turn the music down to toss out the stale loaves of bread three try to make a chopstick that is firm and has a nice texture and is not mushy. Why are we rating this place low?! I love this location. Of course I never come during peak times so I can enjoy the service and my food. For example: I made a reservation online for a Sunday evening and no wait. They sat me in the front secluded section and I was not forgotten about or ignored like most places. I have been popping into this location for years to sit at the bar and grab a quick meal. The bartenders are always friendly, know the menu, and have you in and out in a short while if that's what you're looking for. I've been to several Saltgrass locations, but these days, my parents prefer the one in The Woodlands. I wanted to take my parents to HRW, so I booked a reservation for a Sunday early evening. I'm so glad I did because it was packed. They were incredibly busy. So busy that they couldn't keep up with the utensils. It reminded me of The Bear. IYKYK. Natalie got us started with drinks and menus. Codie was our amazing server. She was on it and refilled my half and half tea without asking. This location worked like a well-oiled machine helping each other deliver plates and clean/pick up dishes as we finished each part of the HRW menu. As always, we started with the complimentary bread and butter. That's always a hit, but I ate just a small piece to save my appetite...or at least tried to. First course - My mom ordered the queso and tortilla chips. I like how they're cut in large rectangular strips, but some of the chips were stale and not crispy. The queso with the pico de gallo was good and had a nice spicy kick. The consistency was just right. I had the fried mushrooms with parmesan ranch. I always enjoyed their fried mushrooms. It was a decent size portion that was still shareable. My dad had the shrimp cocktail and really only ate that and not the greens in the cup. Second course - We had either the potato soup or tortilla soup. We all enjoyed it. I like the bits of potato among the pureed soup to give it texture. The potato is always cooked well and soft. Third course - My dad and I had the 12 oz. smothered ribeye cooked medium. It was topped with sautéed chopped mushrooms and onions and butter. It was cooked perfectly medium. You get to pick a side to accompany the protein, so we got mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were a tad too salty. My mom had the blackened redfish topped with shrimp and got a side of herbed rice. We all liked the dishes, but we were so full that we took most of it home. Fourth course - Dessert time! I had the strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake, and my parents had the carrot cake with cream cheese. I asked for it to be boxed to take home. Codie boxed our meals for us and told me about the Landry's program. I really should do it. When you first sign up, it's $25. When you get 250 points, you get a $25 reward back on the card. You earn a point for every dollar spent. There are so many restaurants affiliated because it's also owned by Fertitta. I live and have been to a lot of them. There's also hotels that you can get discounts and earn points. I would've had $50 back from having been to Brenner's on the Bayou just 2 days before and at Saltgrass. On other visits, I've also had the Caesar salad and prime rib with horseradish sauce. It's all yummy. We will always be a fan of Saltgrass. It's a family friendly establishment. read more

This isn't the first time to this location and the bar always seems on the slow side. My wife and I sat at the bar and it took about 10 min to get drinks. It was busy, but with two bartenders it shouldn't take that long to at least be welcomed. It happened pretty much every time my wife and I need more drinks the 3 hours we were there. Another issue was the Texas Holdem red wine use to be on Happy Hour. I didn't see it as a choice on the menu but the bartender said it was on happy hour. It was not and later she didn't remember saying that so we paid full price. Which is fine if she would have just said that at the beginning. We ordered 3 appetizers this time and all were good and came out pretty quickly. The mozzarella cheese was really good. The happy hour menu is really good. We have had their steaks many times and they always come out great. We love coming here but they really need to work on the bartenders taking care of everyone not just their few favorites they stand around talking to. read more

We really enjoyed our date night meal here. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the food all tasted great. We both enjoyed perfectly cooked and well seasoned steaks for our entree (ribeye and filet), the sides were also delicious (I loved the sweet caramelized tangy marinade on the Brussels sprouts), and the carrot cake dessert was a nice ending to the meal. The wine list was good too. The only downer for me was that our table was stuck in the center of a busy, brightly lit area, so the ambiance was definitely lacking. We would have loved a booth, but they were all taken. That said, we will definitely come again. All in all, this is a good value option for a nice steak meal. read more

First let me say I love Saltgrass and have been to many locations including this one. Very consistent when it comes to quality, service and friendly staff. Xmas eve with 6:45pm reservation, seated by 7:05pm not bad at all as I expected a wait of between 20-30 mins as it was very busy. Plenty of staff and very friendly. So I usually don't visit chain steakhouses as they tend to be a disappointment. But last night, my wife and I wanted quick and easy so we stopped in. And let me tell you, I'm glad we did. Let me just say that HER review is a 5+ STAR rating!!! Well done young lady. You set the bar for excellence! On to the food. We ordered the Brisket Queso for a starter and it was great! I found it well seasoned and good portion size. No 3oz queso here! For entrees, my wife had the 6oz filet with a crab cake, baked potato and chicken tortilla soup. The steak was cooked very well (mid rare y'all, not well well). Crab cake was very pleasant. Not out of this world, but definitely a great addition. The chicken tortilla soup on the other hand? 1 out of 5. There was zero flavor to it. I tried to doctor it up with a little salt and pepper but there was no saving this poor thing. It was DOA. I got the filet Oscar. Unfortunately my steak, same 6oz filet, was not cooked nearly as well as the Mrs. It was easily cooked well (and this time I mean WELL). But the flavor was great and it was still rather tender so I just took it in stride. But to be clear, there was no pink in sight. The crab and fried asparagus were cooked perfectly and, in the future, I will get those asparagus with any meal I order. May consider a dipping sauce to accompany them. A hollandaise might compliment them well. Overall, I would take an over cooked steak just to have service so good that it restores your faith in humanity! Codie, keep up the good work! Our friends took us here straight from the airport for lunch. Conveniently located off the expressway, with plenty of parking, and were seated right away. A little dark inside the restaurant. Our server was friendly and very pleasant. Quick service. Bread was warm, soft, hint of sweetness, and delicious. Fried mushrooms not overly breaded and well seasoned. My 10 ounce rib-eye was huge!! Cooked perfectly to medium. Juicy and tender. Seasoned well. I had their Old Fashioned and it was just ok. I prefer mine on the slightly sweeter side and this one had too much bitters. I also prefer my Old Fashioned served with one large ice ball or ice cube and not nuggets of ice as presentation is key for me; and, using one large ice cube prevents it from tasting watered down. Made a reservation today for 5 people (4 plus a high chair) to celebrate our toddler's birthday. We were taken to a table for 4 in the back when they realized we also needed a high chair and were told we could not squeeze in a high chair and to instead wait for a bigger table. No problem so far. After waiting 15 minutes we went to check on the status of our table and were told we were already seated. They gave our table to an other group! When we showed them the confirmation number we were told they were sorry and had given our table to another "John". They claimed they thought we were together even though we were sitting in the lobby in front of them the whole time. They said they knew we'd been waiting the longest and would give us the next big table in about 15 minutes. The point of having a reservation was so we could celebrate our toddler's birthday with a special lunch before nap time. Seriously disappointed. I don't know what the point of having a Landry's Select Number and using it to make a reservation is for if they don't even honor their reservations. Last time I had a salt grass steakhouse was in Lake Charles, LA. And it was just ok. But this experience was made to perfection. The steak and shrimp made exactly the way I ordered. The taste was amazing. Plenty of flavors and the quality and portion of the 10oz was awesome. The service was extremely fast. We ordered the Rattle popper for appetizer and salad with our main course. Seemed like 5 min for appetizer, soon after main course. Disappointed!! You've probably seen my other review of this same Salt Grass and the ratings were higher and I was pleased. However, same restaurant different outcome. Our family of 6 visited on a Thursday evening. We had a 7:30 reservation. Once we were seated it took a while for our waitress to visit our table, she apologized for the delay so I assumed the long wait times were behind us. WRONG..... it took forever to get our drinks and even longer for the soup and salad. I ordered baked potato soup and it was a bit lumpy and spicy and the bacon in it seemed under cooked, it was soft and a little chewy. 3 of our party of six ordered steak and they came out as ordered. They were flavorful and juicy. Everyone was pleased with their food it was the service that was severely lacking and a huge disappointment. Our waitress literally took our order and we didn't see her again until she brought the check and we had to ask another employee for her to do that. She didn't check to see how our food was or if it was right or if we needed anything. This may be understandable if the restaurant was busy however it wasn't. She dropped the check and brought us boxes, still never asking about our meal. My husband is a great tipper usually 25-30% and usually despite the service we feel obligated to leave something but we both understand that we pay menu price for the food the tip is for the service.
