More JDock halibut I cooked at an Airbnb we stayed in
Mark G.

I see some mixed/bad reviews for JDock and I am not really sure why? The two young ladies who helped us at the counter recently were super kind and patient with my questions. I was concerned with how long ago the catch was with the fish in the freezer and they were reassured me it was from a recent catch and I'm well aware that flash frozen fish is the best to preserve peak freshness in fish if you are not eating it straight away. So I purchased some halibut, sock eye salmon, some garlic salt, a cedar plank, and some bags of ice and off we went to our Airbnb. When I say the quality on both fish was spot on, I am not exaggerating. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to cook true and real Alaskan fish while in Alaska with excellent results. The customer service great and the product was even better.

V S.

We used them to vacuum pack silvers, halibut, rock fish, and yellow eye. The turn around was 45 minutes. They were quick, efficient, and super friendly. They even helped load it into our truck. Definitely will use them again.

My wife and I both love Halibut and were looking to try some fresh caught, while our cruise ship was docked in Seward. We strolled up town a couple of blocks from the Alaskan Sea-life Center and saw that Gold Rush Bistro had some on their lunch menu and decided to stop in. Surprisingly there was no wait at 12:30 (lunch time) their smiling staff were happy to see us. We were greeted, seated and able to order very quickly. That being said, the place started to fill up pretty fast. As we waited, the lady that was sitting next to us when we sat down, had a god awful amount of perfume on, after a few minutes of choking, we politely as to be moved to another table and were happily accommodated, no hassle at all. I've had Halibut many times in the past, but none have been as delicious as the Garlic Halibut that they serve here. One word, OUTSTANDING!!! The decor inside was beautiful, with a homey wood vibe (see pics). Looking out the front window there was an amazing view of some of the surrounding Mountains. If you find yourself in Seward and are a little tired of the food on your cruise or just happen to be in town for another reason, I would highly recommend Gold Rush Bistro.

We were hungry and we could choose all the well-known tourist eateries and pay big bucks, or we could go into Alaska Seafood Grill for a more quiet, family-friendly experience. Walking in at 12:40 PM, we saw that we needed to order at the counter and they would bring the food to our table. There were some open tables, so we did not have to wait to be seated. We reviewed the items on the chalkboard menu above the ordering counter. I don't eat seafood, but luckily they offered a BBQ Bacon Burger with fries. My wife ordered seafood chowder. We also ordered a side of onion rings and bought a brownie for later. I found the burger and fries to be very filling and tasty. My wife enjoyed her chowder. We both liked the onion rings, which were NOT greasy at all. The brownie was soft, chocolatey, and VERY good, just the way we like it. The inside of the restaurant is definitely not what you would call a high-end environment. But, it was clean, quiet, functional, bright, and, most importantly, had clean tables and chairs on which to sit. The staff were all very friendly and answered all our questions. There was a man, perhaps he was the manager?, who walked, dressed, and spoke like he would be more at home in Boston instead of Seward. This is NOT a complaint about him, just an observation. We spoke with him and he answered all our questions in a friendly manner. I don't know that we will ever visit Seward again, but if we do we would definitely return to Alaska Seafood Grill for lunch.

Prices lean toward the higher side for a casual establishment though that seems to be the norm in Seward. For comparison, I paid about the same for fish and chips at another nice restaurant nearby the night before. A heads-up: the fish here is fried with panko breading, so if you're (like me) expecting New Zealand-style or classic English beer-battered this might not hit the mark. The fries were excellent tho and the seafood chowder was the real star--rich, flavorful, and loaded with salmon chunks. Would I order the fish and chips again? Probably not. But I'd definitely come back just for seafood chowder!!

Today I remembered to do all the things including take pictures of my food. I walked in and was seated immediately, I chose to sit at the bar because it's just easier and the chairs all have better cushion. After seeing another patron eating a burger i decided to order one too! Great choice. I had the jalapeño burger with bacon jam and man was it delicious. The burger was a perfect medium well, the brioche bun was perfectly toasted, the white cheddar cheese was the perfect complement to the slightly sweet bacon jam, the bacon was crispy, Smokey and not greasy. The only complaint was the slice of tomato that is out of season and tasteless. I mean it is Alaska after all. My seafood chowder which I paid an additional $4.00 for a cup was okay but whatever, the burger made up for it. All in all it was a great experience and delicious meal. Because it was the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, the place wasn't as packed and noisy as it can be sometimes. The ambiance was super relaxed today so I sat and ate inside. After the buzz snuck in, I got the 6-piece "bucket of butt" since I don't have any friends to share the 10-piece with. Perfect texture and crispiness, with tartar and lemon. GF is an extra bonus. The slaw had a wonderful flavor, but it clearly was the prep cook's first time holding a knife. They just went after that poor cabbage like it had betrayed an ancient bloodline. Overall, incredible experience, but I was very disappointed that there were no flamingos anywhere to be found. I told the taxi driver that I was at "The Lounge" because of this oversight. I walked home. 5/5

I absolutely loved the gluten-free coating on the halibut since I'm not a fan of tempura-style batter. The Tanner crab was amazing, and the fried pickles were also great, though the portion was huge (definitely too much for one person). Service was excellent both nights. The bartenders were really friendly, and the food came out quickly and smoothly. The interior is also super cute, kind of an old-school lounge vibe with lots of velvet. There's a neon sign that says "city where the fun shines," which adds to the fun atmosphere. Such a great dinner spot in Seward.
