This is a decent brewpub in a mixed light-industrial section of Costa Mesa which has several brewpubs. The place is fairly nice inside, with some very comfortable seating including a couple sofas and easy chairs. It has just bright lighting. The decor is otherwise kind of pseudo light industrial but overall nice with some plants, etc., to give an overall pleasant ambience inside if it's not too busy. There is also some outdoor seating in back. I tried three different beers and all were just ok. They were one-dimensional and characterless and not great examples of their styles. Firs,t I had a pilsner, then a red ale, and then a stout. The stout, which is still ok, was the best of the lot. They also served the beers too cold. Service was mixed, with the server on the first visit at about 8:30 already packing it in and rudely telling me that he would not serve me even one beer, despite the fact that there were still several customers drinking and they did not close until 9 that evening. The next night, they were open till ten and the server, a different person, was friendly. They do not have food, but food trucks or vendors in the back. read more

Salty Bear is a cute little brewery located across from the anti- mall in Costa Mesa. Overall the vibe was great but it was crowded on a Friday night. The outdoor patio feels like you are camping with long picnic benches and little stage for live music. The staff were all friendly and helpful when it came to choosing the right beer. Being an avid IPA drinker, I opted for their hazy which was just ok. Overall a fun place to hang out but the beer wasn't anything spectacular. I can't say enough about this spot. It's located in The Lab, Anti-mall area of Costa Mesa. First, all of the staff is pleasant and gorgeous. The vibe of this place is so incredibly chill. The decor is tasteful and you can tell there was a great deal of thoughtfulness in the design. Their patio was super cute and provided live acoustic music on a Saturday afternoon. Their beer selection was unique. They had a rye ale which is pretty uncommon- interesting taste, not my favorite but worth trying. The amber lager was very tasty and the red ale was tasty as well. Parking is a bit messy, definitely carpool or ride share if you can avoid the parking. read more

I am actually not a fan of beer but this place changed my mind! I normally can't finish any beer because I don't like the taste. I had the tropical punch hard seltzer and family vacation strawberry blonde. Both were great and hid the beer flavor I don't like. I was able to finish both and enjoy them. They're definitely light beers but they were still enough to get be buzzed and I would not consider myself a light weight. You will probably get buzzed faster if you are drinking on an empty stomach since don't serve any food here. There's a lot of restaurants nearby though if you wanna eat at those restaurants or bring take out here. I like that there's plenty of seating inside and outside. The outside is really nice because there's lights, trees and picnic benches. There is a small parking lot here so you might get lucky and find a spot. I also love how clean the restrooms are. I think I only saw one server the whole night but she did a great job of taking care of everyone and the bar! read more

A great micro brewery that isn't a typical SoCal IPA-centric brewery. They do have a West Coast style IPA, which is tasty, but they are so much more than that one trick pony. Salty Bear has several styles of beer that are worth trying. They also have a couple of Seltzers available too if you are more into those. The service was friendly, and you can see the brewhouse equipment from the bar in the tap room. They also have a large outdoor space for those good weather days. read more

Cute and small brewery with good quality beer and chill outdoor atmosphere. Salty bear is located in the camp, parking is horrendous here but luckily we got a spot since someone pulled out right when we came in. Seating can be found outside on benches or inside booths. They offer around 15 beers on tap, we got the red ale, hazy ipa, and ube ale ($4.5 for half pour, $7-$8 for full pour). All the beers were fresh, my favorite was the hazy ipa. The ube ale had a hint of ube and was slightly sweet. They dont service food but they had a food tent next to the brewery. The camp has additional restaurants so grabbing food at other places is also a option. Overall great place to chill on a sunny day. read more

I cam across this brewery completely by accident. It's perfectly tucked away in Costa mesa. When I came they had a folk music band playing that were absolutely incredible. The vibes here are immaculate. The beer selection is small but quality brews. They also have food vendors that change throughout the week. I highly recommend this brewery to anyone visiting/living in the OC. read more

SBB is a classic millennial brewery--with a few white lights strung up outside and some picnic tables randomly arranged out back. I had the El oso lima lager, which tasted like a corona with a lime (my kinda beer). I probably wouldn't choose SBB, but my college age kids enjoyed it. read more

Salty Bear is one of my favorite breweries. I love the beer and the atmosphere. Right now they have my favorite, horchata beer, which is seasonal. I never drink seltzers, unless I am at Salty Bear. Love the seltzers hands down the best and all flavors are excellent. Really fun place to hang out with chill atmosphere. Thursday night taco stands is amazing as well. Also enjoy the hazy IPAs but usually have to drink the seltzers. read more

Went here on a Sunday afternoon, great little spot to grab a beer and mingle. When we went there was live music too. Staff was great. There was indoor and outdoor seating. Nestled in the back corner is this sweet spot. That was bustling with tons of people. So, if you go on a Saturday afternoon have patience for parking, have your comfy shoes on, and keep an eye out for a place to sit. The hazy IPA is perfectly citrusy and goes down smooth. We didn't have time to try any other beers, but we will be back with friends hopefully snagging a picnic table outside so we can sit and hang out for awhile. read more

My second time here and this place is definitely one of my favorites!! It you haven't been here- YOU need to go or bring a date or family! To start, the ambiance at salty bear is absolutely adorable. The cutest outdoor/indoor space with great decor and super dog friendly. They have TVs that play football games, and the other weekend they had live music! This is a great place to go to and hangout at for a few hours especially on a nice day. However, the beers are a bit hit or miss in my opinion. If you are super into very light and hoppy beers, then this is a great place to go! However I have a hard time personally finding a beer I love. I opted for the seltzer and thought it was one of the better seltzer's I've tried. Prime location nearby other local breweries (Bootleggers, Green Cheek, etc) and it's connected to the CAMP (behind Folks pizzeria). The vibe here is very chill and I like the variety of drinks they offer - usually a good selection of blondes, IPAs, fruity beer options, and sometimes a sour or seltzer. They also do half pours which is nice. Crowd is usually 20-30 somethings that fit that whole adventure/outdoorsy vibe of the CAMP. The TVs sometimes have sports playing and the place is super dog friendly. The patio area in the back is usually crowded and there's a few tables inside. Def one of my favorite breweries in Costa Mesa and worth the try! read more

We love a rude bartender at a nice, new brewery. Didn't catch his name but he was not very welcoming or helpful when I asked him about the menu. And when I asked for the WiFi password he just shouted it at me instead of coming closer to tell me like a normal person would. He was not busy either. He's off now so it must have been the end of his Friday shift before the rush. Otherwise the beer is tasty and the atmosphere is great! I can see the other bartenders being very friendly to the other customers. Hmm. Probably won't come back since there are PLENTY of spots to grab a beer around here. read more

They mind their business fs, I likes ! The drinks were good, like any other brewery well no this one had different tastes, ( I know they all do! ) but I really like two of them that were sweet but still had that lager finish. I was there with my boyfriend and we were there for about an hour. The service was great, and the guy at the register was very knowledgeable. I requested a sweet IPA and he didn't fail to deliver. Freaking awesome! Overall, will I come back, no but it's worth a stop once or twice :p read more

My first and only experience at Salty Bear was awesome! I love the inside and outside vibes here! We sat outside where there was plenty of shade. There was live acoustic music playing that we really enjoyed! We wanted to order a beer flight because they had so many great beers to choose from. They do not offer flights, but they do offer half pours, which end up being a lot more than half pours! We liked all the beers, especially the aloha guava kolsch and the summer wheat ale. They were both light fruity beers that were refreshing. I would recommend coming to Salty Bear for some tasty beers! I hope to come back next time we visit the area! read more

This brewery is a nice little addition to the back side of the Camp, and offers a spacious interior bar and an attractive outdoor space. It's one of the few breweries in the area that are both kid and dog friendly, making it a nice little spot to enjoy a beer. I just wish I enjoyed their beers more. I tried their hazy IPA and just found it strange. If you look at my picture, you can see that it came in a dark pink color and was missing all of the citrus and hoppy notes that I was expecting. It also tasted rather thin. Honestly, if I closed my eyes, it could have passed for a strawberry wine cooler. The salty bear stout had a much better flavor profile, but it too tasted a bit thin. I also had a sample of the guava kolsch and I just wasn't a fan. It seems like their brews change quite frequently so maybe they're still testing out some recipes. Hopefully I can find something that I enjoy on my next visit. read more

Speaking of beers, they have plenty of house made brews as well as some local and unique offerings. I tend to gravitate to seltzers or lighter beers and they plenty of choices for me to grab. I love the Lavy Lemonade, Flying South, Like Super Profound, and the New Adventures: Nitro. Their menu does change so please make sure to check what they have avoided when you go. The Like Super Profound was a Japanese beer, light but great taste, and the Nitro was smooth. I don't doubt anything on their menu currently is not worth trying while you're there. The food is also great, the pretzel, and wings hit the spot for me and my girlfriend as an appetizer for a movie while we sat and drank waiting for the start time. The chicken sandwich was hot and crispy, on the smaller side but good nonetheless. The tots, regular or loaded are just chefs kiss, always crispy, must order if you are there.

But I was caught off guard by the lack of music and overall how quiet the whole place was. I went on a Friday and there weren't many people there, which isn't bad just something I had noticed. Very stark comparison to the other breweries in the area, which were much more lively. The beers itself were decent; however, there were no prices posted anywhere on the chalk menu, or the paper menu from what I saw. I ordered 2 drinks, one of which needed to have the keg replaced. When the attendant returned she said they were actually completely out, but the drink I had ordered was a double IPA, and without any prices posted or itemized receipt, I wasn't sure what I was able to get instead. The attendant then tells me "if you get something cheaper, I won't change the price" which confused me. A double IPA is typically more expensive than a regular beer or seltzer and she didn't even offer a refund to compensate for the fact that it was sold out and I had already paid for it. This could have been mitigated if the prices were available or she offered me an itemized receipt. For 2 beers I paid $20 before tipping. As a customer I'd like to be informed of what I'm getting charged for, and if I'm charged for something more and given less, I'd like a partial refund. In the end I got my beers and sat down. The brewery itself doesn't serve food, so it was nice being able to bring my own food and est what I want. Again, up until 30 minutes of being there, no music was playing, so very off putting vibe. Overall, I did not enjoy my experience here and don't recommend anyone coming here when other breweries are in tbe area and much more clear with pricing and have a more lively vibe.

They also had a pizza vendor there making thin, crispy pizzas, which were pretty good and perfect with a beer. I heard Flashpoint recently celebrated their sixth anniversary with a big party. We missed that, but even on a regular Wednesday night the place had a great vibe. Big bonus for me, I was able to ride my bike here from home, which made the night even better. This was my first visit to Salty Bear Brewing Co., and I've hit the other two breweries within walking distance. I've got to say, the aesthetics here are a notch above. The space feels modern, open, and really well thought out, with a clean, polished interior that stands out right away. Even the bathrooms were spotless, which is always a great sign. Big kudos for the beer selection. Their Hazy IPA lineup included three tasty, hoppy options. My buddy and I stuck with the Islander Hazy IPA (6.9% ABV), and it delivered, smooth, juicy, and exactly what you want in that style (see pic for color and body). The back patio is a huge differentiator compared to nearby spots like Bootlegger's Brewery Costa Mesa. It's spacious, fun, and has a great social vibe--perfect place to hang with friends. Inside, they've also got TV monitors, which makes it a solid spot to catch a game while enjoying a beer. Only downside: no real food menu, just bar snacks, but if you plan ahead (or grab something nearby), it's not a dealbreaker. Shoutout to Val behind the bar for letting me taste around and keeping things moving, always appreciated. Overall, this felt like the nicest brewery in the area, and I'll definitely be back. I was expecting a great results to this brewery and seeing review 4.9 and I have my date with me on 9/5/2020 by 7:45pm... it very disappointing first of all. No welcome as first time! Guests as all not customers service whatsoever. When I ask the bartender ask what was his recommendations of the beers. I didn't get answer at all. He directed me differently and very rude to me and my date. When I go to an brewery always ask what is the best beers on the market from there. But I didn't get that at all. Also in front of line before I when up there to order. It a couples who was white couples and bartender show them respect and play favoritisms as they are good friends towards them before I when up there. I felt so much Prejudice and hurtful by the actions what take place there.They look at me and my date as a minority people that I'm black person and she a Mexican Woman. My date was upset and disappointed as well when she ask for dark beers her favorite and bartender rude to her as well. I don't want to come back to place like that. Outside atmosphere was great no problem there but Customer service need to change I will be shame that people here is rating this place so highly and got terrible customer service. read more

I want to give zero stars but I can't. The owner of this place is a complete racist sexist asshole. He's a hot head who has zero respect for people particularly women. He is the quintessential racist white guy. Me and my sister with my niece pulled into the parking lot to visit this plaza and as soon as we pulled in to look for a spot, he had the audacity to start marching toward us with a stank face, shooing us, waving his arms, telling us to get out. If something is bothering you or if we are in the way, you can be nice about it. Though this was not the case. He was extremely rude, tone of voice was straight a "bro dude" who bullies people while still trying to act young, and even shouted from his car calling us stupid while sticking out his tongue. Like how old are you. Honestly I wouldn't support a business where the owner acts like this. There's better small businesses I rather give my money to. read more

We recently hosted our department Christmas party at Salty Bear Brewery, and it was an excellent choice! The atmosphere was fantastic--relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of space for everyone to spread out and enjoy the evening. The service was top-notch, and the staff were attentive and friendly throughout the event. We brought our own food, which was no problem, and there was more than enough room for everyone to sit comfortably and enjoy their meals. After eating, we had a great time hanging out and playing games, which really added to the fun vibe of the evening. Even those in our group who don't drink had a great time. The brewery's relaxed environment made it enjoyable for everyone, no matter their preferences. So we were sitting inside and people brought their dog in and it starting barking at people that were sitting enjoying their beers. The owner said oh well what are you going to do. Obviously he doesn't care how annoying a barking dog is plus the chance that the dog was going to bite a child ( why do people bring children to a brewery?) WTF. I love the overall energy of the place, it feels casual and welcoming. The only downside is that the tables and booths are pretty uncomfortable and not very sturdy, which makes it hard to fully relax and enjoy a long visit. Their beers are pretty solid with standout for me being their 7.4% Hazy IPA. One thing to note is one pint could be $7 while the next is $11 ~ the prices do vary a bit. Since it's in a food hall, there is tons of seating and it was never overly crowded at the bar. Nice bartenders that were always quick to attend to my group of friends the whole night! We were treated to a live DJ while treating ourselves to good beer and good bevs. The Capo West Coast IPA is solid, but the Capo Hazy IPA blew me away. We 10 to 16oz pours, but a pitcher of this would've gone well with our crew of five. Lots of great eats nearby to balance it all out. The service was attentive and the crowd was abundant on a Friday night. Capo Craft is open from 11am - 11pm on Saturdays as well as Fridays and from 11am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday. We stayed until closed and shut it down. Mexi Cali Negroni, Mission Margarita, and their Painted Hills (Plata Tequila meets Elderflower Liqueur, Aperol and Agave) all caught my eye. Some cool guest beers available on tap. Cool N/A and Zero Proof concoctions as well. They have frozen slush, but whoever opened that day forgot to make it, which is my only con. Free parking and Wi-Fi courtesy Rodeo 39 Public Market. Restrooms on the north end of Capo. Good place to enjoy the end of the day, celebrate the weekend or the warmer season ahead.
