This was our go-to coffee and breakfast place during a recent 3-day weekend trip to Friday Harbor. For one, the prices are much more reasonable than what you get at many nearby breakfast restaurants, and at the same time, the quality of ingredients is actually much higher than those places. If you're looking for a place to sit and have a tasty breakfast sandwich or breakfast bowl for around $4-$6, this is where you want to go! I also like their organic coffee. There are a number of small tables inside the restaurant, and they have outdoor seating with a view of the water. We never had any problem finding an indoor table even though there were always other customers there when we arrived. They are conveniently located right across from the ferry terminal. Don't expect to get your coffee in a timely manner. We only come here when our regular one is closed but honestly this is the last time. Its just ridiculous for them to have 5 people in there. Its takes 15 almost 20 min for them to make a coffee and then for it to be wrong. Im not save this place is horrible but the coffee was still completely wrong and not worth the wait. read more

In comparison to three other coffee shops in town, this was the best place to get excellent coffee and a wonderful breakfast. Their space is comfortable with a few different seating options, including an awesome balcony overlooking the harbor. Coffee was very good and the baristas were skilled. I had ordered a breakfast sandwich and my friend ordered the Lox, both were also very enjoyable. Drinking a fine cup of coffee and having a nice sandwich while enjoying a view of the harbor was so relaxing. The baristas were friendly and the drinks came out quick. The food took a reasonable amount of time to prepare. Sometimes it gets crowded inside when ferries are about to load up or have just unloaded the passengers. The coffee smelled good, it's convenient because it's right across the street from the ferry terminal. It's cute and has a bunch of cute souvenirs. They messed up my London fog latte, forgot the vanilla, and the scone was extra dry and bland. I'll give it another go another day. read more

Probably the worst coffee I had on the island, this place has gone downhill since we last visited 2 years ago. Ordered 2 iced americanos, watched the barista fill up the cup 3/4 of the way with water and a few ice cubes. As a former barista, that is not the proper way to make an americano. Told them it was very watery and they told me americanos are supposed to taste watery. They remade my drink but it was still awful. My dear friend and I arrived fresh off the ferry and saw this place right away. We stumbled inside to relieve ourselves from the brisk December chill and wind of the ferry. We ordered chai lattes and "chocolate" muffins. Once sipping the latte we were taken aback by the unique taste of the so called "chai" in our hands. It was very watered down and tasted more like a chai tea. Once biting into our muffins we were surprised to find blueberries. It was still a sub par muffin. Not what we expected. We grabbed coffees and pastries here a couple of times over the several days we were in town. It's a bumpin' place that often has long lines! Of note, you can order from the outside window or go inside. They didn't have a ton of pastry selection when we went, and we made the mistake of saying "sure" when asked if we wanted them to heat ours up. It took them 10 minutes to heat them up due to the long line of pastries ahead of ours. We ended up getting a regular croissant, a croissant with bacon in it, and a cookie. This was a bit stressful given our incoming ferry. The coffee was decent, and they had a nice selection of non-dairy milks. read more

The staff facilitated communication between each other to ensure low wait times and happy customers. Salty Fox Coffee is located near the ferry landing in Friday Harbor. Its the white house on your left, as you're en route to Anacortes. They serve a wide range of pastries and coffee drinks. There is also a limited menu of breakfast items, but its not a full service breakfast location. SFC has a bright, homey appeal and on clear, chilly days, this is a great reprieve from the bitter cold. The bathroom could use an update, but the seating area and service make SFC a nice place to hang out before your ferry arrives. We stopped here after visiting San Juan Coffee for a bag of beans and a cup of coffee. SFC didn't bat an eye when we arrived with our cups, and we appreciated that we could indulge in SFC's sweets and SJC's smooth coffee. I will recommend not getting the day-old pastries as the scone I got was dry and tasteless, but today's muffin was moist and easily shareable between two people! read more

My Mom and I hopped into Salty Fox to grab some coffee just before going down to wait for the next ferry. The lady at the counter was nice, and our iced mochas came up quickly. My Mom had one of their chocolate chip cookies and said it was fantastic. Their coffee was alright, a tiny bit bitter though. Their space is split in two, with one side including the ordering counter and tables, and then another room where they have a couch and some other seating, including tables. They also have a really nice outside deck and lower seating area that have beautiful views. It looks like a really nice place to hang, inside and out. They encourage coloring and had some books and a whole large caddy of gel pens. This is a great idea, considering the resurgence of adult coloring going on...I like it. The one thing that was a bummer at Salty Fox was that the bathroom was not in great shape. Beyond the fact that it looked like it hadn't had a daily cleanup, it was a little old and shabby looking. It needed a fresh coat of paint, a new sink and fixtures...some new flooring and a good deep clean in general. I can understand, being so close to the ferry how they may get hit with a lot of patrons, and ones that need to use their facilities..but this needs to be taken care of. Anyways..three stars for a nice place with room for improvement. read more

My husband and I stopped in here and had delicious food and yummy drinks. The breakfast sandwhich on the Belgium waffle was delicious and my husband was happy with his cream cheese bagel. Americano and mocha were tasty. We sat out on the patio and had a wonderful view of the harbor. The staff and setup of the place were also careful to maintain covid precautions and were friendly. One of our most favorite things to do while on vacation is find local coffee shops. Today we tried the Salty Fox. The shop located in a quaint little house. The ambiance is very welcoming and the gentleman that helped us was so funny. I enjoyed him most. I ordered a white mocha that was fantastic. We walk up there at 11am on a Wednesday when they're supposed to be open until 2pm, and some 13 year old kid who claims he works there abruptly says "we're closed" as we walk up. I ask why and he mentions he doesn't know and he was told to stand there and tell people. Bizarre that he doesn't know why. I almost went in there to ask but decided we'd try the next day. Thursday morning hits and we walk over at 10:20am to the same kid saying the same thing, after we've witnessed people drinking their freshly made drinks outside. He says "I don't know I think they're out of stuff, I was told to stand here." At this point we're so annoyed with the place for "being out of stuff" that we don't even bother to go in and ask the real employees what's going on. We're here for two more days and don't plan on trying again. Crows nest coffee is great anyway. They seem to not be running out of milk and espresso. read more
