Salty Fox Coffee is right by the ferry. The location is so convenient to grab a bite to eat or get a drink while waiting in line to board and it's close to town where you can stop by while exploring. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can order inside or outside at a window. There's tables both inside the cafe and outside depending on your preference.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Inside, they had not only Salty Fox Coffee merchandise for sale but also items from local artists. I asked about the pineapple green tea and I appreciated their honesty in how they haven't tried it. I ended up ordering it and it was alright. It was more tea forward than pineapple. I did get a coconut cold brew the following day and that was great.

The chai is soooooo good (if you like a little spice!) I should have gotten a larger one. I thought it was kind of weird the sausage breakfast burrito had andouille sausage, I was expecting breakfast sausage. The breakfast sandwhich was very good, but I wish the eggs were fresh instead of the prepackaged kind. Super convenient location, just steps from the ferry parking.

I had the best gluten-free chocolate chip cookie in existence. And you wouldn't ever know it was gf! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is cute, convenient to the harbor, and has exquisite views from the tables outside on the porch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only problem is that nothing I saw on labels or menus said one word about gluten-free, but I asked since I had heard about the cookie, and sure enough, she had a stash behind the counter.

I am not much of a coffee person but my gf is and ended up at this place in the morning I tried Matcha Latter and it was really really good. I was not expecting to find something that good here in Friday Harbor. The matcha was bitter - like nice bitter. They definitely put too much of sugar, I would have preferred less. As for the coffee it was okay based on her review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience is super cool - good nice people working here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Good service.

I was pretty disappointed with this spot. The woman at the register definitely put the "salty" in "salty fox". I asked a simple question about the matcha and she was so annoyed. Then she made a weird comment about my order. The coffee was mediocre too. I'd go elsewhere next time.

Stopped here before the ferry came (super great location) and glad I did! I got the matcha lemonade which is something I've never seen before. It slightly tasted like matcha and liked how refreshing it was (but think I'd just order the regular lemonade or a latte next time). I also got the "everything cookie" which has coconut, chocolate chips, and macadamia nuts. The cookie was delicious but a bit too sweet and can easily be shared. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a few local products such as cups and cards they sell and a decent amount of seating![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're waiting for the ferry or just got off it, this is a great place to stop.

They are conveniently located near the ferry terminal. We visited this place every day during our stay in San Juan islands . It's fairly crowded but service was very quick . We had their cappuccino, mocha , pesto bagel, rice bowl and their amazing Nutella croissant. It was amazingly fresh and loved their coffee. The staff were very friendly as well. Highly recommend this place

Awesome breakfast spot. The breakfast burrito was great - plenty of cheese and the andouille sausage they used was awesome. Açaí bowl was also good - would only get it if you are craving it, otherwise I think they're better at making their other menu items. You can order online ahead of time to save waiting, or they have a little gift shop to pass the time. And they have an awesome outside area that seems to me like the best place on the island to watch the ferry come in/out of the island. Also pretty cool that it's a local business woman who owns and operates. Would definitely recommend! read more

What a cute little coffee shop! Tried their muffins & scones - muffins weren't good to be honest. They were a little too sweet & sticky. The berry scone wasn't really sweet, which is nice but wasn't outstanding either. But oh my goodness, they have the tastiest Frappuccino I've ever had! It wasn't overly sweet and what I loved about it most is that it had such a strong coffee taste. What a nice change from the typical sickeningly sweet and watered down frappe that's all too common! I wanted to return for a second cup but it's now closed. read more

Decided to grab a coffee here before my whale watching tour. It was a super cute little cafe. Prices were fair and staff was friendly. Had a decent amount of of baked goods with a view regular menu items too. Free street parking. To sum this place up I would call it a cozy cafe. read more

We stopped in for some coffee and danishes. Got in line to wait our turn. The barista never acknowledged us while she waited on the women at the head of the inside line. Then a local (she knew him) came to the outside window. She helped him before us. Then she helped another outside patron. Then a local came to the inside line, went to the front of the line ahead of everyone else and she helped him next. The barista had still not even acknowledged us....so we left. Our opinion is this is a place only for locals. Visitors need not even try. read more

This is the cutest spot! So much fun local stuff to buy as well as a whole menu of food and drinks. Great staff, they had so many customers and moved through the line like it was a breeze. Loved the burrito too. 10/10 read more

Ordered food to go and it took far longer than they projected. Waited outside for over five minutes in the window and no one said anything. Finally guy takes order from the person that got there after me and was inside while I was outside waiting to pay for my order and pick up my food. Finally got my food and it was cold. The guy behind the counter was rude and didn't seem to give a fuck. I miss the Doctors office. read more

We went into this little place right after we got off the ferry. Headed inside and I saw this cookie. A Ranger Cookie. I've never heard of such a thing. They listed the ingredients and I liked all the ingredients, so I got one. YUM. I am now perusing the interwebs for the recipe. Anyway, good, friendly, fast service, I got a Steamer infused with raspberry and hazelnut. That was good too. I liked the Salty Fox very much. read more

Small but tasty breakfast menu. The iced vanilla lattes and cold brew were perfect. Also, with their windows and open doors, and a nice morning breeze flowing through, the main room is well lit and very comfortable. And, being located directly next to the ferry parking lot (and about an hour wait if your going to Sidney, BC) it's the perfect place to grab some coffee & grub to go. read more

This coffee shop is located right near the ferry terminal. It's def a great location if you're waiting for your ferry and want to grab a quick bite to eat and order coffee. The customer service is great. The lady at the counter was extremely friendly. We ordered the yogurt parfaits and those were great and quick for on the go. This place only got 2 stars for me because of the coffee. My boyfriend and I both ordered caramel macchiatos but I ordered an extra shot of espresso. The coffees were very disappointing. All it tasted like was milk and a little hint of caramel. I did not taste any coffee at all. I paid extra for the additional shot of espresso and all I had was flavored milk. We def won't be coming back here for coffee. read more

My family and I visited San Juan Island yesterday for the day. I got a white chocolate mocha and I have to say, it was one of the best tasting white mochas I've ever had. It was creamy and just the right amount of sweet. I ordered a 20oz to share with my husband and we gulped it down. I wish I would have bought my own 20oz! It has a great view and is right next to the ferry dock. Pick up a coffee when you arrive or right before you leave. Delicious! read more

Stopped in here while waiting for the ferry. I had tried a few different coffee shops and cafes on our trip but hadn't made it here yet. It's in a great location right across from the ferry terminal. Best spot for coffee and breakfast items (oatmeal & berries, English muffin bfast sandwiches, or breakfast burritos) in Friday Harbor. Coffee surpasses the Bean Cafe and Crows Nest. Customer service was excellent and the view of the bay and proximity to the ferry make this a top spot in town. read more

Super efficient staff! Always make you feel welcome and they love what they are doing. The ferry rushes always seem like an impending doom to us tourists, but the reality is you definitely have the 5 minutes to wait for your coffee! Or if you're in a super rush, just get drip! One of the baristas there will tell you the drip is the best part of her day! read more

While our main focus and passion is coffee, we have multiple quick breakfast options, baked goods (baked fresh and in-house daily), "grab & go" food options (breakfast/lunch/snacks), - all offered via counter service when you order your coffee. Meet the Business Owner: Andrea H.

Andrea moved to San Juan Island in 2007, shortly after graduating from WSU in business. As the daughter of a fisherman, she has always felt a strong connection with the ocean and its salty fresh air. Andrea worked as a property and casualty insurance agent from 2007-2015 with a few extended breaks when she had her daughter, Kate (9), and son, Mac (8). Newly single, she felt a strong pull to engage positively with the local community on a daily basis. This prompted the move into the coffee/hospitality industry. Andrea opened Salty Fox Coffee's doors in July of 2016. The primary focus of Salty Fox Coffee is to provide excellent espresso/coffee drinks to islanders and its visitors. Beyond the espresso bar, Andrea offers a simple, healthful, and FAST breakfast menu (served all day). Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten Free options readily available. The name Salty Fox came about when a salt and pepper fox crossed the road in front of Andrea's car while driving to the coffee shop.

I tried to tell myself she doesn't represent the coffee shop but it did make me just want to leave to another shop. When we walked by the coffee shop throughout the day since we walked around town, there were definitely multiple people waiting inside like we did. Sooo...

We ordered a few lattes made with their in-house syrups, and every single one of them was incredible. We loved them so much we went back for them again and again over the weekend we were there. We also tried their chorizo burrito and donuts, which were both outstanding. I honestly want to go back to the island just to eat here again! The ambiance of the place is awesome. It is super kid-friendly outside, featuring a wonderful yard with plenty of toys and things to do, which makes it incredibly relaxing for families. To top it all off, the staff was incredibly nice, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visits. I highly, highly recommend checking out Medio Cafe if you are anywhere near the San Juan Islands. It was so good, and it's an absolute must-visit spot that we will definitely keep coming back to!

The only downside is there is no place to really sit and eat outside so you would need to take your food to go and sit in your car, go back to hotel or air bnb, unless it is nice out and you can find a bench somewhere. The small, two person shop cranked out our sandwiches in record time! The food was hot and satisfying. The only complaint I have is that they are cash only and add 18% gratuity for orders of 5+ items. Even though we weren't buying beverages, our bill had this surcharge added. Unfortunately, we didn't account for the extra charge and had to run to the ATM for additional cash! Be mindful of the additional surcharge if you are planning to order more than 5 items!
