I have had salve osteria on the hit list for a while, and my expectations were far exceeded. This place is both insanely busy and also a hidden gem at the same time. It does not get the attention, nor press it deserves. The place is jumping with good people and good vibes. I got their New Years special which was prix fixe with prime rib as the main event. Everything was superb. The cassoulet had a beautiful spice with a velvety texture. The crab tom yum risotto was so decadent. Silky smooth from the coconut with a beautiful herby finish from the mint chili oil to complement the crab. I never thought I'd say this, but the brussel sprouts stole the show! Cooked in some bacon fat they were crunchy, salty, and perfect. Oh, and the prime rib was everything a kid could ever dream of. Fatty and the cacao rub was amazing. The horseradish was spectacular. The whipped potatoes were light and airy. Think of mashed potatoes in whipped cream form. A texture and flavor combination I will now dream of because I imagine I will never get to experience something so lovely again. As for cocktails, i kept it simple with a martini... I mean, it is a gin bar, how could I not? The service was great. I was dining solo and the servers and bar tender kept me updated, well taken care, and treated with intense hospitality. Food 4.2 Service 5.0 Ambiance 5.0 I ordered the gnocchi appetizer and I knew I was in for a treat after the fist bite. Fluffy clouds of delightfulness. The duck bread entree was seared to perfection and cooked exactly how it was meant to be cooked. The Panna Cotta was a seasonal masterpiece. I did have one issue: I ordered a Barr Hill Vodka Martini at a premium price, and it had a strong taste of Juniper. I alerted the staff and they were very apologetic and understanding, unfortunately the manager assured me it was Vodka and didn't acknowledge the possibility it tasted like gin. I'm guessing bartender failed to rinse the shaker properly after the previous gin shake, resulting in a vodka drink with a strong gin flavor. The staff kindly replaced the drink with a lower quality vodka that helped satisfy me. The situation was resolved, but I walked away feeling misunderstood and dismissed by the owner. I've been meaning to come to this place for so long! I was finally able to stop in. First of all, the cocktails are amazing. I tried the apple and the cucumber. So so good. Our server was great as well and able to give recommendations to the rest of the group. We had one semi picky cocktail drinker with us ha ha When it comes to food, the food menu is relatively small. We ended up just ordering a ton of things to share. My favorites were the GOUGÉRES which were little cheesy breads. We dipped them in the juice from the crudo and it was spectacular. But they were also spectacular on their own. The gnocchi and agnolotti were my other 2 favorites. So delicious. I can't wait to go back. Service was seamless, the staff was friendly, and they didn't miss a beat even with all those cocktails and plates flying out. I had the hash with pork belly, poached egg, potatoes, and spinach -- perfection. Around me, the waffles, Benedicts, and chilaquiles were disappearing just as fast. Every dish was a hit. I'll be honest, I've never eaten here, but I do plan to correct that mistake in the very near future. However, I have enjoyed many cocktails at their bar. The cocktails here are masterfully made. If you go during, Happy Hour you can enjoy spectacular cocktails and save money at the same time. The bartenders here, really know their craft and will have you ordering a second and may-be even a third. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite, but if I had to, I'd say their Manhattan. The staff is friendly and so is the other patrons. Sitting at the bar, you'll always have good conversations. Also, if you need to hang a coat or purse up, they've got hooks under the bar. Salve has been on my list for a while and I'm so glad we finally checked it off. 5 stars without a doubt. I love the marriage of two concepts in space. It is so well done. The vibe is fun and relaxed but also upscale. Service was great and I always appreciate the team effort. Only note on that is not "auctioning" off the food when it arrived to the table. The gin - they make their cocktails approachable for non gin drinkers and easy to pick in the most brilliant way. You pick a flavor you like on the "gin scale" and then it correlates to a cocktail with those flavors. Our cocktails were so fun and fantastic - perfectly matched with our preferences. The food- every single dish was exceptional. Our table ordered staters, pastas and everything was a hit. You can't go wrong here. Appreciate the seasonal selections with fresh ingredients. My husband and I enjoy checking out places we've never been to. Or rather, I drag my husband along to try out food places because food and wonderful company make me happy and it's one of the many reasons why life is worth living. With that said, I dragged my husband to Salve Osteria but it's okay because they happen to have fantastic cocktails and delicious food that is sure to leave you drooling on your couch, dreaming about that fantabulous meal you just had! We made a 6pm reservations, got in and were seated quickly. Our waitress, who shared my name was pleasant and took our drink orders immediately. Since this place happens to be known for their adventurous cocktails, we decided to order some. I had a negroni, the scarlet pandan with some Filipino gin. Inventive and the taste was actually quite wonderful. Bare in mind, I'm not a gin fan because to me, it tastes too much like a Christmas tree but this one did not. I am a sucker for anything pork belly so, of course, we ordered the pork belly to start, followed by some cacio e peppe gnocchi for me and the Atlantic cod for my husband. We both enjoyed the appetizer and our meal. Truthfully, I enjoyed the appetizer more than my husband did but only because he's not convinced that he's into pork belly as much as I am. We ordered another cocktail during dinner. I had the dry martini and my husband ordered something with pear. We switched because the martini was too much for me. It wasn't bad but I'm a lightweight and usually drink wine on our night out. It's not a reflection of their cocktail making skills. I ordered a chocolate mousse thing for dessert. I was too full but... live life, right? Seriously, I ate the whole decadent, tantalizing concoction and have zero regrets the next day! Lastly, the place is moderately decorated. Recently had an opportunity to come back a couple times since our first visit. they consistently deliver on superb cocktails. Their food selection is always fresh, creative, and new. Some recent favorites include a lasagna, or scallops, the whipped feta, and the pork belly. The only item that we've tried recently that didn't quite hit the mark was the short rib Pappardelle, and that was only because there was perhaps an ounce of short rib on the plate. For a relatively inexpensive protein, we were expecting more. Still, a taste has always been phenomenal. Service from both the waiters in the bar are top-notch. If you have any preferences of drinks you do like or do not like be sure and speak up. They seem to have endless ideas for how to adjust the drink to make it perfect for your liking. My colleague and I have now started a tradition of trying different places for happy hour and Salve was our first stop. Neither of us had been here before but were excited to try it, especially since they're fairly new and offer a happy hour. We got there a quarter after 4 and had 45 mins until hh was over. We each got a glass of the bubbles and split the meatball app. We were surprised when the bubbles came out, namely due to the glass it was served in and because the Prosecco was flat. We informed the server of the error and he was quick to correct jt. While getting our new glass, unfortunately, it tasted the same. Although we were a bit disappointed, we still drank it. The meatballs were a decent size, surrounded by sauce and a bit of cheese but weren't anything to write home about. The bread that came with it was a bit chewy and stale. We didn't complain as this was our first stop and we were there to check it out. The server and service were pretty good and the menu looked decent. I met several other ladies at the Salve on a Sunday for brunch. This is first time I have been at this establishment in South Grand. They only serve brunch once a month or so. I've had this spot on my list for a few months now and finally decided to stop in. Easy to get a reservation for a Saturday night the day of. Walking in, the decor was definitely not what I expected. Photos online of the bar definitely make it seem more grand on the inside. The rooms are separated between lounge and restaurant. Requested the lounge on my reservation but was sat in the restaurant. No biggie. Chairs in the restaurant sunk in when you sit in them and were not conducive for eating. GF's drinks we're delicious and creative. I'm not a gin drinker at all and liked them a lot. Service was also spectacular by our waitress. Here's where the ball was dropped. I had the lasagna which was decent. Needed a bit more sauce and the the actual pasta was very bland. Definitely didn't season the pasta water to taste like ocean water. I could make a better one at home. GF's butternut squash tortellini came out at room temp and the pasta was just above al dente. Politely sent it back citing the temperature. Waitress was very apologetic and even sent a slice of cheesecake to end the meal which was excellent and well intentioned. Very grateful. Unfortunately the pasta came back out, with less food than was sent back, not warm and still undercooked. Not sure how in the hell all of those things could be true. Of all of the kitchens I've worked in, at a minimum, the food would have been sent back out hot. And definitely not missing a tortellini. It's pasta, give a full or equal portion back. It's not a steak that was sent back. Overall, the most disappointing and bizarre thing I've seen in some time. Absolutely worth a visit, drinks are great and very creative. A few weeks ago my husband and I attended the Gin World Gin Festival and we had a great time. Subsequently I started following The Gin Room on FB and learned of the new offering that was coming to Natasha's restaurant. Natasha always welcomes you with genuine warmth and friendliness. It's a nice feeling. We started our experience with cocktails...me, with the Sunday Communion and my husband, with the Bloody Salve. Oh my word, the Communion was heavenly. With the addition of the St. George Spiced Pear a peace and a sincere happiness floated over me. It really was that good! The Bloody Salve is an interesting take on a Bloody Mary. It was very good, but I prefer the Communion. My husband says The Salve was REALLY good and looks forward to having another. As we were enjoying our bevs our order of the Smoked Salmon Dip arrived, and it was delicious. I'm not a fan of smoked salmon, but I tried it and I'm so glad I did. Chef has a wonderful way of treating salmon. For our mains, I had the Rosemary-Carrot-Olive Belgian Waffle and my husband had the Benedict. Came here during happy hour to catch up with a friend and while the food was delicious (we got Meatballs, Bruschetta, Bacon Fat Carrots, Goat Cheese Polenta) the ordering process was confusing because there was no physical happy hour menu. There was a miscommunication and we found out that none of our dishes counted for happy hour. Bring a group and order as many dishes as you can handle. We ordered more than we intended after seeing the food served around us. Date night: Salve was the perfect choice - cozy and sophisticated. I'm not a fan of gin, but love good food and dry wines. He had a martini; I had a super Tuscan. Both were perfect. We weren't very hungry so settled on a couple European-inspired small plates - Kafta meatballs and Crudo. Both were to die for. I will start at the top. Fancy date night, got a little dressed up and made a reservation. I never got to try Cafe Natasha so when Salve opened up, seemed like I had to jump on it. The boyfriend says the interior is only slightly different than the predecessor, one thing I loved about the inside was acoustic walls in the main dining room. This is an old building and I can only imagine how loud it must be without them. We were STARVING and unfortunately even though we had a reservation, we waited at the front, no less than five minutes for the hostess to even appear. Seems like they have no one to clean tables. So we ordered drinks and a charcuterie board right from the get. They were very slow to come out, but once the board arrived, we were no longer dying, and everything else seemed to be timed perfectly. The server was great, she knew we would have questions on the drink menu, I'm guessing a lot of people do. She found me the perfect drink that I don't remember the names it was a negroni with the rose something in the name. We had peeped the menu before we arrived and had already talked about ordering small plates, but not specifically which ones. Carrots? On a small plate? What the why? But when I tell you, they were smothered in so much yummy goodness. They could have been sweet potatoes and I don't think anyone would have noticed. Carrots, bacon fat, bits of bacon, feta cheese, maybe a walnut I don't remember, but my favorite part was all of this and cilantro on top. It was a great addition and a nice surprise. Beets, I love a good beet salad this had an interesting twist with maybe apple slices, pistachios and what seemed like creme fresh. I am trying to remember this from last night, I'm sure they wrote it betterin the menu than I did. It's delightful, a must try. Savory cannoli. They did have a good description on the menu of exactly what this was. It didn't look at all like a cannoli, it was more shrimp served on a cracker, with a ton of flavor. Last but not least, meatballs, they dressed up their meatballs with houe made focaccia. This would be my only tiny negative comment the focaccia was super chewy. I saved it for the end, so maybe the bread came out warm, I'm not sure, meatballs were huge, big enough for a meal if someone wanted to do that. I enjoyed them. Went there on a Saturday evening. I parked on the street. Place was not packed but made reservations. I went with a group of 6. Couple people from my group are not used to a place like this. And what I mean by that is having hummus, butternut squash, etc. They are more into eating steaks and burgers. Ordered drinks by the can and you do not get free refills, so the two people I was with complained about that. The other four people could care less. Ordered small plates first. Arancini, bruschetta, meatball, and cheese & charcuterie plate. All were very good. Even the two people that normally don't eat those things-Enjoyed it. First time trying Salve Osteria in the former Cafe Natasha space on South Grand. Even though it was warm, we sat on their lovely shaded patio and enjoyed excellent service from Kendall! We started with a couple of cocktails, which we were able to easily select because of Kendall's detailed and oh-so-helpful descriptions and comparisons of the choices. The drinks were delicious - and the pours were beyond generous - which is not all that common at cocktail bars these days. We then ordered three small plates. A bibb salad, meatballs, and burrata with green tomatoes and peaches. The burrata and the meatballs were accompanied with fresh bread from Union Loafers. Anyone who is here in St. Louis who knows where the best bread is, knows about Union Loafers. It was the perfect accompaniment to both dishes. We paired the food with a succulent dry rose, and then decided to go for dessert - why wouldn't we when everything we had eaten up to this point was stellar?!. Enter the flour less chocolate cake, with pinot noir-soaked cherries and toasted pistachios, with a side car of blueberry rosemary sorbet. Come. On. Now. Quite easily one of the best desserts I've ever had! What more can I say? Finding the words to describe the deliciousness...creamy, savory and sweetened by the peas, then pow with the lemon ricotta. We finished Bruschetta and Grilled Watermelon Salad. They were both heavenly. The watermelon's sweetness was balanced with the lime vinaigrette. Seemed to hit all of the flavor profiles with sweet, tart, savory and creamy. Service was perfectly timed. For indoor, there are two rooms, one is more spacious than the other , never the less both rooms are big. This was the star of the show and i'd come back again for this plate Arancini: rich but light in flavor, fried but not heavy Main plates The pastas are made in house Raviolli plate: mixed flavors but no distinct empowering one. I wasnt impressed. This plate was my lest favorite Pampardelle: i preferred this pasta over Raviolli, but id say the same for both, the flavor was lost. First the positive - the staff was the ultimate in welcoming and kindness. The Gin Room is so unique and clubby. Will be back to try more cocktails and soak up the atmosphere. The dining room however, lacked the atmosphere and even though they had the acoustic panels it was still very noisy and difficult to have a conversation. Started with the Tuscan Bean Soup and Beet Salad - phenomenal! Moved on to the mushroom pappardelle and lasagna, both were just so so. The pappardelle noodles seemed too thick and undercooked, I understand al dente, but I'm used to a much different texture- could be me! The lasagna was plated beautifully, but again lacking -- possibly needed more sauce. Parking was a challenge since street parking on Grand was full and the side streets are residential. Parked about a block and half away. They haven't been open very long and are definitely trying hard, will give it another try in the spring/summer. read more

The only reason they are getting 3 stars is because the ambiance here is great and I think they really excel with their alcohol tasting options in the gin room. However, I got the gnocchi which was extremely bland. It was literally gnocchi with some prosciutto flakes and a little pecorino cheese. It really could use some sort of spice or minimally some salt to offset the bland. My friend got the butternut tortellini which came out cold. After asking them to heat it up, they took it in the back for like 10 minutes and brought it out cold again. The next day I looked at my bill and noticed the waitress added an extra $8 into her tip, so now I will have to spend some extra of my time to try and get this rectified with the business and/or my credit card company. The answer is "yes," make the reservation. The cocktails from The Gin Room are *chefs kiss* and all the food is fresh and tasty. You literally cannot go wrong with anything you order. Grass is Greener is my favorite drink on the menu, and the Mahon 50/50 is booze forward and delish. Miss the Smell of Summer was also delightful and came with a little watermelon gummy candy garnish. If you love mushrooms definitely order the Bruschetta as a starter. If you're not starving, the Autumn Squash is a bit smaller and lighter. The Pappardelle was also a winner (and vegetarian) and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Enjoy! read more

Cute small space. Great service. A good place for a date. The food is good and you can go fancy or you can go casual. The pastas were great.

Yummy new addition to the Gin Room, though I am sad to see Cafe Natasha's go. We sat on the gin room side, as the atmosphere is way better. We enjoyed our food, the menu is small but still offers something for all tastes. We split a side as an appetizer in addition to ordering the meatballs. I do wish the bread they served with both would not have been toasted. My trout dish was fantastic. The service was a little sporadic ... appetizer took forever and then the entrees flew out. Part of Gin Room but just Come here for the Gin cocktails, they very good and the most interesting. Friday night dinner. Salve is a Small menu. Enjoyed the Beets salad and arracini shareables. The ravioli and pappardelle Pasta were mediocre, not impressed. We didn't order dessert because of how sad the pastas were. Small entrance with no where to wait which makes it's awkward blocking the entrance and hovering over other customers at their table. Also the Waitress was a bit pushy on getting our order and taking the menus away very quickly. read more
