The fare is only $1.25 each way and it certainly beats having to pay for parking in these congested areas, however the ride isn't always pleasant. Homeless people continue to use the train, spread out on the benches and hang out to take advantage of the air conditioned cars among the hot Houston summers. Over the past year or so I have noticed that there are more fare inspectors, outfitted in neon yellow shirts, however these hasn't proven to be effective in reducing the homeless presence. Over the years I have seen people smoking on the training, sleeping, and even masturbating....yikes.

For $1.25, I'd say that it's fantastic. Trains seemed to run often enough to fit my needs, they were clean and they were speedy. Quiet (compared to the steel on wheels of Boston and New York) and modern (compared to London or Paris), the trains don't go all that far but they go far enough to allow a tourist like me to forsake a car rental and parking for getting around. Very simple system which operates on a proof-of-purchase system. You will need to keep your ticket handy as more than half of my rides had a fare inspector on board. You get to ride for a solid four hours for that buck and a quarter. Awesome!

If you did not know but…read moreHouston Metro has a service call Metro Lift, it is for people who can not drive or walk to the closet bus spot safely. And this service is like ride share app, where they will pick you at the door and drop you off at the door. If you have a wheeler or in wheeler, no problems, you will get you in the vehicle safely and secure you safely. You have to qualify for the service and you have to go through an interview at the main building in downtown. I really appreciation the Metro Lift as it let me be independent on going to places in Houston safely and not relying on family or friends all the time. The downtown main building is also the Downtown Transit Center. You can also buy your Metro Lift paper ticket here and get a new ID here. Also getting my lost item back was painless and easy.

But it's still a 4 star service, and when my car is out of action I'm very grateful for it. I wrote 2 different reviews for this, so here's the longer other one. Respect my transit authority! I know some would say I would be better off riding the Metrosexual Transit Authority, but I felt comfortable on this bus service too. Not literally comfortable though, because holy lack of suspension, batman. I've had a few bad experiences since the first time I thought Houston buses deserve a 5 star rating, but I'm still very grateful for them every time my car isn't working. Like I said before: Still one of the better bus services in the country. I've ridden NYC, LA, DC, Boston, Miami, and a ton more I can't even think of, and Houston is up there with my favourites. It's not as cheap as I think it should be, but then most bus services in major cities aren't. One of the best features of the Houston Metro is the awesome train that runs from the University area to downtown and if they could expand that to other parts of the city it'd be even better. Also Houston could use a really extensive subway system to ease the loads on its overstuffed highways. Most of the drivers are super friendly (and hit on my friend a lot, but then her pink hair is part of it), most of the buses are on time, and they send text updates to tell you when the bus is going to be along. I did have a couple of very aggressive bus drivers lately, but that's to be expected.

It is located right across the street from the light rail station (called strangely enough the TMC Transit Center stop). There is an app to get virtual tickets to ride the buses and trains. It costs $1.25 to be able to use for 2 hours, and $3.00 for unlimited use until 2 am the next day. Most people we noticed were scanning a card, but it seemed for visitors, the app was the best way to go (you need to show the activated screen to the bus driver as you enter). And there are no checks at the train stations. There are a lot of buses coming through here, many at very frequent intervals. The various bus stops didn't seem to have any pattern...we had to just keep walking around until we found the right bus number. Even then it wasn't clear always clear which direction the bus was supposed to go. But because the buses seemed to come around frequently, it would make sense to make sure the bus you were going on is the right direction. My nephew happens to live in an apartment building right next door, so very convenient for him (and he rides free as a student).

Had a few mins to kolas so went inside and were rested like VIPs. Staff super friendly. Flight was great and pilots so nice. When we arrived back later that evening, truck was parked right next to where the plane stopped. Again, staff was super nice. Very professional.
