Had pretty average expectations for this place as i visited it with my family. To my surprise i was greatly pleased with everything they "MADE". MADE meaning several of the items i wanted were not available as other reviewers have stated! Either they make one Kiev and one Chicken Tabaka per week and when gone it's gone! I would rather see a menu that has all the items available. But, it was one of the most pleasant meals and best tasting food I've had in Denver hands down in a long time!! Found this place online looking for a halal place in Denver. So off we go. Me and my wife were very excited since we love Uzbek food. Most the reviews are talking about how bad is the service. We were greeted by a nice gentleman and a lady. We were seated immediately and brought menu. Dishes looked what what we would love and more! Waiter came and we began asking questions about the items we were not familiar. To our surprise (my be not a surprise as we knew how bad would be the service according to the reviews) he did not know what is what! Going back and forth to the kitchen told us some food we were interested were not avaliable. We ended up ordering kabab combo, manti, dumpling soup. Bread was served. Bread was hard, cold and not fresh. Soup and manti was perfect. The mixed kabab was chicken, which was dry but tasty; lamb shish, beyond perfect; and kofte. The kofte (ground beef balls) were almost rotten! Could not eat a bite of it because of the spoiled meat smell! This place has potential but probably they are not interested in the people stooping by. They mainly serve (and want to serve) Russians. read more

Let's start off with this I did not eat any of the liver because I am highly allergic , but I did taste the zucchini I thought it was ok. It was totally unexpected considering the atmosphere looks very questionable like they are getting ready for a continuous wedding or a continuous party to happen that is from another world. My mom ordered the liver kabob with the vegetables it was spiced with dill ,butter ,salt ,and pepper. There was probably a few other spices on there that I just could not identify. I did not eat much of it. What I could taste though it tasted pretty good. My mom says it was delicious. She kept commenting on I could cook this at home I found that interesting. Because she loves liver so much. I honestly can't really say I will ever come back here there is nothing on the menu that I would like to eat , if I'm going to have Kabob I will go to a Mediterranean restaurant that specializes in kabob with the proper spices. I recently went to Samarkand for a friend dinner night. We all really wanted to try something new, so we opted to try out this quaint Uzbek restaurant in Denver. Upon entering, we noticed that the best thing to do was to seat ourselves. The waiter seemed busy with a task, and we had read a previous review that suggested we just seat ourselves. So, I recommend you do the same. Before you start eating, please make sure that the plates they serve you are clean. I felt my plate before I ate, and there seemed to be dust coming off of my fingers. Just a little tip in case the plates they give you haven't been used in a while. While there are some pictures of the menu on Yelp, these pictures are a little outdated. But, most of the food options seem to be the same. While here, I tried the Borscht, Sambusas, and the Chicken Tabaka. The highlight of the night was definitely the Borscht. It was super flavorful with great seasoning. It was also very hearty, full of vegetables and some protein with a dab of sour cream. The puff pastry on the sambusas were great. But, the protein was a little gamey for me. When I was sampling other dishes from friends, the beef dishes also seemed a little gamey to me. Of course, lamb is a gamey type of meat. If you aren't a fan of gamey meat, I wouldn't suggest any of the beef or lamb dishes to you. But, the Chicken Tabaka was also great. For those of you who don't know what this dish is, it is basically a whole fried chicken. The chicken is relatively small, kind of like a game hen. It is was fairly good, albeit a little on the salty side. But, the chicken was tender as a whole. Just note that it doesn't come with any sides, so you'll have to order those a la carte. Also, some of the items on the menu are not always available. For example, my boyfriend wanted to try the salmon steak, but they did not have any salmon available. My other friend had wanted to try liver on the menu, but that was unavailable as well. Samarkand was a unqiue dining experience with foods that we don't get to try often. This place is so brilliant. The lamb Kebab was among the best I've ever had. They take a while but they make it fresh for the coal barbecued roast. Just delicious! The samsas were okay, but I have never had samsa before so I haven't got any basis. Their roasted potatoes are to die for, pretty sure they roast them with lamb fat or goose fat, doesn't get any better than that. Highly recommended, tastes very authentic. read more

I was curious about this halal food eatery. I ordered the chicken shish kabob, 1 order of 2 sambusa & rice. I received my food to go, opened it up, only to find a hair in the rice. Mistakes happen, the chicken, nothing special. The sambusa was like a dinner roll and filled with uncooked meat. The bread of the sambusa was soggy. The smell of the food was horrible. If you've seen the show "No Passport Required", this is exactly the kind of dining experience Marcus Samuelsson is talking about. I will probably never get to Uzbekistan but I've experienced some traditional and delicious dishes. The menu is a bit meat-centric with beef and lamb featured prominently. The food is not heavily spiced but does contain dill, which I happen to love. Russian influence can be found in the Olivier salad, sometimes described as Russian Potato Salad, and the dumplings served with sour cream (ground meat in a delicate steamed wrapper). Middle Eastern influences are evident in the use of chickpeas. Meat skewers (kabobs) and lyulya (similar to Kafta) are also on the menu. Side dishes ("garnishes" on the menu) included fries for something more familiar. The mixed vegetables were perfectly cooked. The proprietors are friendly and welcoming although they sometimes don't have the English vocabulary to describe dishes in detail. Our host pulled up a picture of lyulya on his phone to help us with the menu. The restaurant is elegant, with tablecloths and white chair linens. Another reviewer said they thought they were crashing a wedding - same here - but it turned out the large party was celebrating a birthday. It was Saturday night so there was a DJ playing Uzbek pop music and singing more traditional songs that the older partiers enjoyed and danced to. Our experience was wonderful and our hearty meal cost about $25 per person! We are not often in Aurora, but we hope to return to try more dishes. read more

An exotic little gem tucked away in a tiny strip shopping center on Parker. The food here is fresh and tasty, and the service was excellent. The chicken kabob was especially tender and flavorful, and our favorite was the salad we had at the start. We will definitely be back to sample some of the soups, stews and dumplings featured on the menu, presumably Uzbek specialties. I am so excited about my experience at this restaurant! The food was amazing. I had the Russian potato salad and a plate that had 3 different kabobs. Everything was tasty. We were greeted by the owner and a sweet waitress who spoke Russian. We did not speak Russian but we got all we wanted and ordered. I love going to these little out of the way places. This place is absolutely dreadful. Me and a friend were feeling adventurous so we decided to walk in and try something new to eat. The "Restaurant' looked more like a vacant dance floor with card tables and folding chairs set up. The man working finally came and dropped off 2 menus after we sat there uncomfortably for 10 minutes, and didnt say a single word to us. The vibe in this place was very eerie. I found this cool little restaurant driving along Parker Road through a very interesting and diverse part of town that's a little off the beaten path but well worth the excursion. Restaurants, grocery stores, markets, services, and even clothing stores of a variety of ethnicities are all represented. Among them is Samarkand, an authentic Uzbek cafe that will transport you thousands of miles into the heart of Central Asia. I went in looking for Lagman, a noodle dish that I used to eat everyday when I was in the Peace Corps in nearby Kyrgyzstan. That was a long time ago and me and my fellow RPCVs have been combing our different US cities for years searching for this simple yet delicious and comforting noodle dish and I was the first to find it outside of NYC. It lived up to the wait and the whole experience took me back in time and space. Everything from the textile patterns to the music to the tea customs to the languages being thrown around the room created a no nonsense, pleasant and relaxed dinner and genuine little adventure. read more

Place looks ok. Food is garbage not as the same as it used to be when they first time opened up. Owners are selling the food which were prepared several days ago. Prices are very high. Outrages. We seek out adventurous food in every city we visit. If we can't pronounce items on the menu, it's time to try it. Of all the unique, family-run restaurants we've been to in the last two years, my husband and I agree this restaurant was the best experience. The food was fresh and different. We ordered a variety of items and every dish seemed better than the last one. I can't remember exactly what we ordered but the fact that I remember this restaurant that we visited two summers ago says a lot. We'll definitely be going back next time we are in town. This is quite a culinary find -- IF you can get past the negatives. We had never been before. We walked in and the place was just about empty. All the tables were pushed back against the walls and the center of the room was empty. The chairs were covered a turquoise blue satin. It looked like they were getting ready for a wedding reception. The waitress seated us -- and in very broken English explained the menu to us. We had never had Uzbek food. While we were deciding out choices, she brought out a bread plate she said they made in the back. It was not good -- very dry! She did come back and offer us butter. Forego the bread!! We placed our order -- the Sambusa and Manti -- and 2 orders of lamb kabobs -- one with rice and one with fried potatoes (not French fries -- they offer both). Our appetizers arrived -- and -- oh my -- the highlight of the meal. The Sambusa is beef and onions in a very flaky crust. Almost like a croissant dough. The Manti is beef and lamb wrapped up in a pasta dough and steamed -- served with sour cream and chives. Think pierogi. Yummy! Our meals arrived -- the lamb was very well cooked and tender. The rice was good -- nothing special. But the fried potatoes were the star. Fried perfectly -- the exterior was crunchy and the middle was creamy. They were brushed with a garlic olive oil and liberally salted on the outside. When our bill arrived, we noticed that we had been charged for the bread plate that our waitress had brought us at the start. Left a negative note to the otherwise pleasant meal.
