The best pastrami sandwich I've ever had in my life was bestowed upon me here. I don't typically care for slaw, but theirs was heavenly when paired with thick slabs of pastrami and provolone. We also opted for some potato salad, which was nearly as good as my grandma's recipe. The staff was super friendly and kept me entertained with their witty banter amongst themselves and customers. My only disappointment was that I didn't come on a Saturday so I could get a Ruben. It's worth a special trip to do so in the future, I'm sure. read more

I was excited to find this restaurant but a little bit of investigation reveals that the beef that they use is grain finished, fed antibiotics and growth enhancers, etc. Very disappointed, in this the land of happy grass finished coastal cows, many of which are even heirloom or heritage breeds and well known for their flavor and tenderness. Additionally, they are still using Tillamook cheese- frequently a sign of an establishment that is not putting in the care that they want people to think that they are putting in. Saw an episode of Triple D: Nation with Sammich featured on the show and decided to stop by on my road trip through Oregon. I'm really disappointed in the quality of the meat of the Chicago Italian Beef, thought the meat was subpar at best. Same quality meat you could get at your local Subway. The taste of the meat taste as if it had been in a fridge for days waiting to be prepared, did not taste fresh even when prepared upon ordering. Also ordered the Timbo which used the same meat as the Chicago Italian. The best part of the whole experience was how clean the bathroom was compared to the entire restaurant. There are so many flies you have to swat at them every 5 seconds. It really ruined the entire meal. I stepped outside in the patio area also, and the fly situation was just as bad. Can't imagine how many flies are in the actual kitchen area where the food is being made. Really hard to get past the flies. The bread for both the sandwiches and grilled cheese are amazing though, but would not come back. read more

To say I was disappointed would be an overstatement. The meat was mostly tasty but far too fatty- even for pastrami. However - the bread was definitely stale and the chips they give in a bag were RANCID. for $13+ for the sandwich and add to that tax, tip making $17-ish- there is no reason to give such poor quality stuff! I want to love the place- but I am guessing that I will not go there again- even if it is a 10 min walk from my house!! I do not think this location is being given the attention it should have- and if that is correct- I highly recommend trying other places in town before settling here. read more

Goddang place is fantastic. You won't find a better place to relax and listen to some jams while you order a sando. I love all the options they got there, so you'll probs love it too. I had heard around town this shop was pricey and was some what skeptical going in that a sandwich was worth $9. Well, Sammich made a convert out of me. The sandwiches are top-notch and the portions are generous, I could easily get two meals out of Teagan that makes it well worth the price. The staff are pleasant and it seems like they really enjoy what they do which makes the customer experience that much better. Also whoever is in control of selecting the radio station playing inside, you rock! My only complaint centers around the piles of dressing drenched iceberg lettuce on the sandwiches. Wet iceberg + dressing = soggy bread. This ruins the whole to-go-experience and find myself eating at the shop because I know by the time I get home the thing will be a soggy mess. Just a suggestion; I would like to see leafy green lettuce option for us vegetable/nutritional snobs. I won't mind paying more for it. The server was curt with me for some reason when I asked if I could have a glass with my Caldera in a Can. That was weird. The vibe --" Too snooty for beer in a can, huh? OK. HERE!" My family came to town on Sunday, 5/24/20, and we ordered 7 sandwiches to go to take to Lithia Park. They only gave us 6 sandwiches and 2 of the sandwiches, Bardo?, were such a soggy mess, my kids wouldn't eat them. we stopped by to complain about the missing sandwich and the soggy ones and we told they could not find our order, the bill was $69.00 and they would do nothing about the inedible ones. I don't know how exactly you elevate the humble sandwich to a culinary art form, but dang, Sammich does it. The sandwiches are a little pricey, but more than worth what you'll pay in my opinion (and, quite frankly, the sandwich I always get easily makes two reasonable meals). I get one of their two vegetarian options (the Melanzane), which is simply incredible--roasted eggplant and onions to start. However, if ever I've been enticed to go back to eating meat, it's in this place. They just have an incredible menu. I've turned family and friends on to Sammich and never had someone come away from the experience less than thrilled. I really wanted to eat here. I was showing Ashland to my husband in hopes he'd be up for moving here. We came into the shop and looked for the menu. It turns out, the specials are on a chalkboard under the counter. It was loud and I was trying to get my bearings when the woman behind the counter yelled, "hey 4 eyes, clean out your ears. I didn't hear it because of the noise from the shop but my husband did. He told me and we decided we did not need to eat in this overpriced, pseudo-hipster, asshole employed establishment. Okay, I just don't get all of the good reviews here. I mean, the food is okay - but not for the price they charge. For god sakes, they have $13 burgers here! Not that I mind paying $13 for a burger, but not at a fly-infested, loud, dirty, hole-in-the-wall 'sammich' place. The people behind the counter were unbelievably rude at the same time. One mans food had been sitting on the order counter for 5 minutes (drawing flies the entire time). When he went up and politely asked if it was his food, he was chastised and ordered to sit down - at the same time one of the food preparers behind the counter told him "not to worry his pretty little head about it". This was a grown man with a family! One of the girls behind the counter was yelling at customers the entire time. "where the hell is bob- come get your order", "steve, get your big butt up here - your order is ready". I mean - is this the schtick here? Am I missing something? This place is an absolute DIVE - and the prices they charge are way too high. If this is someones idea of good, they really need to go somewhere where there is some competition for delicious sandwiches in a nice little cafe setting. I went here a few months ago visiting from out of town. A local SOU student and friend took me there knowing that there was gluten free bread. The lady ringing me up had serious attitude about me ordering gluten free bread. She asked if I was celiac because if I wasn't then basically they didn't need to care about cross contamination. She followed it up with if I was celiac, then I was stupid to be in a sandwich shop that would obviously have crumbs everywhere. Keep in mind, I actually have an allergy to wheat-- diagnosed by a doctor and all. It's not a voluntary lifestyle change or a fake problem. Yes, I knew that coming here there would be a chance of cross contamination. I would be a idiot to not realize this, but is it really too much to ask for them to just try a little bit to be careful? Or tactful? I don't expect them to have a separate kitchen or to spend lots of time cleaning to make sure there's absolutely no cross contamination on my behalf. That would be ridiculous. Just do the best you can within reason and it should be good enough. I shouldn't have to feel bullied for something I can't help. As for the sandwich itself, it was delicious. Hence why my review is two stars. I can't give them one star when the sandwich itself was good. To sum it up, if you don't have any allergies, this is the place for you. What I can say, being from San Francisco originally (here in the valley for 20 years now), this is the best sandwich shop in town - BY FAR. Well worth the average $10 price tag. Sandwiches are very generous, so you can get away with splitting one if you are on a budget. I love pastrami and Reuben sandwiches. I have had them all over the country, and specifically all over Southern Oregon. Unfortunately, the pastrami sandwich I had at Sammich was the worst one I have ever eaten. I ordered the pastrami sandwich to go, but when I unwrapped it at my house, I was extremely disappointed by several factors. Firstly, the sandwich wasn't toasted or grilled AT ALL (though the description lists it as a "hot" sandwich). Then, since it was given to me cold, the Swiss cheese was completely unmelted-not good. Also, the bread was a wet, mushy mess. This would have been somewhat solved, again, by toasting the bread and serving the sandwich hot...like every other restaurant which serves Reubens and Reuben-type sandwiches. Finally, add to that the sandwich cost me thirteen dollars and you have one whoppingly bad experience. I do not mind paying extra money, even considerably extra, if the food is well made and uses good ingredients. This was not the case at Sammich. I will say that the flavor of the pastrami itself was very good, but since it is an (expensive) SANDWICH shop, they should really learn to make a decent "sammich." That was just really not good, even at six dollars, let alone thirteen. read more

I ordered 2 grilled ham and cheese specials. I was quoted 11 but charged 12 which I didn't realize until later. The description was grilled ham and cheese carmelized onions with sprouts. What I received was 2 very wet sandwiches. I opened it up and there was a big pile of chopped wet peppers etc. Very little ham and after much searching a tiny bit of cheese on one side of the bread. The carmelized onions had been thrown in a heap only on one side. I scooped out the veggies added cheese and regrilled it trying to salvage the sandwich. Th sandwich I dropped off for my dad was just as disappointing. He threw much of it away. It showed a lack of care in the end product and I'm very dissatisfied. I was in Ashland for School and my classmates rave about this place. Long story short the place was dirty, expensive and the beef in my sandwich was fatty and unseasoned. The potato chips are kettle chips from a bag. The waitress noticed that I didn't eat the meat and asked if she could make me something else. Although I appreciated the effort to make me something else, the sandwich that I had was severely underpar. I'm sure there are better options for a good sandwich in southern Oregon. I have had sandwiches from here before. Generally, apart from the price, they are very tasty. Not going to go into long detail, but the woman taking the order was not fully paying attention. She left the counter to micro manage others plating food, letting a long line build at the door (it was noon). In the end my sandwich was messed up, still good, but not exactly what I ordered. Wow! Loved this sandwich shop! As soon as you walk in, you are glad you did! We are a family of four and cleaned all of our plates. my son ordered the burger and he said it was the best he ever had! Hubby had the prime rib, pour on the gravy...amazing! I'll start this review by admitting that my expectations were pretty darned high based on reviews and recommendations. I will also admit that I might have ordered wrong. So there's that. My experience was just okay. I arrived at around 1pm on a Monday. I ordered the turkey with cranberry sauce as that's a favorite combo of mine and the gal pal ordered the other turkey sandwich. They had some more interesting options but we're both suckers for a good turkey sandwich. The woman at the register recommended the sliced bread over the roll. We sat at a shady table on the patio and were harassed by flies. After about 25 minutes we received our sandwiches aaaand.... they were serviceable. Everything was fresh and they looked nice enough. They came with plain potato chips. The problem is the overwhelming lack of a wow factor. I've thrown together sanwiches exactly like this at home. For $25 for two sandwiches and a soda and tip I was hoping for something, anything, to jump out at me. For a pretty good, probably consistent sammy from nice people I might return. read more

It's time for a review. I realize that the 3 times I have been there I have ordered the pastrami, Reuben style. I need to venture out a bit, methinks. My friend told me the tuna is outstanding-- she got like 3 in a week on a crazy Sammich tuna binge, several months ago. First of all, the pastrami is just amazeballs. Truly. So fresh and yummy. I recently went mostly gluten free due to some health issues and they can accommodate you quite nicely. This last time, I went in with my husband and it was a pretty busy Saturday. Chandra had a minor screwup in that she made my sammich on regular bread the first time. No biggie, except we were starving before we even got there. It did take awhile to get our food and Melissa was apologetic and sent us out 2 cups of soup to make up for the lengthy wait. Thank god she did! That was the best clam chowder I have ever ever had-- and I have worked in many a restaurant that served clam chowda. The clams were freshly shucked that day, no canned crap. It was mind blowing, made with in-house bacon. Yeah, it had a little gluten in it as a thickener and I paid for it a little the next few hours, but it was worth it :) Plus, I HAD to eat it because my hubby is allergic to shellfish and I couldn't let that goodness go to waste. He also really liked the tomato bisque. He makes a pretty epic one, himself, so that says a lot. We feel so fortunate to have a place like Sammich right down the street. A business that goes the extra mile and sources local meats, cheeses, breads, etc and makes things IN house. People complain about the pricing, but this establishment is not using the normal, prepackaged boring Sysco crap. It's quality, people. And you pay for quality. Thank you, Sammich.
