i really wanted to like vida baking co. because everyone talks it up, but honestly it just didn't live up to the hype for me. the place looks cute and cozy when you walk in, but it was way more crowded than i expected and kinda stressful just trying to stand in line. nobody really explained where the line even started so people were just awkwardly hovering. i got a latte and an acai bowl and both were just... okay at best. the coffee tasted straight up burnt and bitter, like the espresso shot sat way too long or something. i still drank it because it wasn't cheap, but it definitely wasn't enjoyable. the acai bowl looked pretty but the fruit didn't seem very fresh and the texture was kinda watery. the wait felt really long for just coffee and food. i don't mind waiting if something is amazing, but nothing really stood out. the staff weren't rude or anything, just seemed overwhelmed and not very welcoming. what bothered me most though was that the place just felt unsanitary. i saw an employee making a sandwich wearing only a single glove instead of two and it just kinda grossed me out. maybe there's a reason for that but it didn't look very clean or professional. maybe i just went on an off day, but for the prices i expected way better quality and service. i left feeling disappointed and still kinda hungry which sucks for a bakery experience. read more

Super friendly staff, I could tell regulars stopped in and they knew each other. Everything here is gluten free, which was amazing. I enjoyed a coffee and sweet potato muffin which was not too sweet! My son had a cinnamon roll and my other son enjoyed the Brazilian bread. Outside seating has bright yellow umbrellas and the cheerful decor and breezy inside gives you a carefree relaxed feeling. Fabulous GF food with delicious flavors. I enjoyed the egg salad sandwich and the rest of the table devoured the waffles with fresh fruit surrounding each segment. The mocha with coconut milk was yummy too. Definitely a stop worth making while traveling up the interstate. read more

To highlight the good things: The staff was extremely nice and welcoming. The place and its location are really charming. The café is very clean and has a pleasant atmosphere. Things I wasn't too excited about: There weren't many fresh bakes available when we visited, and the matcha, unfortunately, wasn't very good. A small recommendation to the staff: It seems the matcha used isn't ceremonial grade, which is understandable given the price. However, some suppliers now sell ceremonial matcha in bulk online--I'd definitely take a look, as higher-quality matcha could really boost your drink menu. I'd also personally consider trying another oat milk brand instead of the Costco one. Another thing worth adjusting is how the matcha powder is stored. Matcha is sensitive to light, and since it's kept in a clear container, it can oxidize and turn yellow (and possibly become more bitter). A dark or metal container would help keep it fresher. I only tried the matcha, so the rest of the drinks may be great--I just didn't get the chance to try them. Wishing you all the best with the business! read more

Been coming here every time we pass through Ashland and it has the best gluten free pastries and coffee! My favorite is their Americano or an espresso. I usually get their blueberry corn muffin or poppyseed which is super yummy! Also their sweet potato loaf bread is my all time favorite and a must try! There is nothing but good things to say about Vida! This Brazilian bakery is a must-stop for a weekend sweet treat. Vida is an entirely gluten free bakery!! In small towns like Ashland, it is a luxury to have a bakery this delicious where the entire menu is gluten free. My favorite things to order are the coconut gem or one of their scones. This bakery never misses and changes flavors quite regularly. As for drinks, their chai latte is amazing. Even better if it is iced and you sit out on the patio taking in the views. Vida can get relatively busy for such a small space, so plan ahead. There is a big free parking lot right across the street. The service is fast and friendly. as someone with celiac, dedicated GF bakeries are such a blessing. and i think those without any kind of gluten restriction would be a big fan of most of these options i'm a big fan of pão de queijo, so was happy to see our sandwiches served on it. kind of small, but enjoyable and reasonably priced. my dad wasn't as big of a fan of the bread once it was panini-pressed for his ham sandwich though. so maybe one that's not--like the caprese, veggie, and egg salad options--would be more enjoyable to others as well? most disappointingly, we ordered 3 small rolls of pão de queijo that tasted stale. the frozen Trader Joe's ones are easily better than the ones we tasted. however! the same bread for our sandwiches was realllyy good, so i know they can do it well! not sure what happened with those was also nice having an iced latte, but i noticed kirkland oat milk on both visits, which is definitely cross-contaminated with gluten. that's concerning for a dedicated gf bakery. if celiac or otherwise sensitive to wheat, i would ask about their methods before ordering a hot latte the cupcake was good, but i liked the frosting more than the cake part itself. was a bigger fan of the chocolate ginger cookie despite a couple concerns, i do wish they had a closer location to me! read more

The best sandwich on the planet is found at VIDA...and it happens to be dedicated Gluten Free?! My favorite on their menu is the smoked salmon sandwich, closely followed by the turkey sandwich which comes with tomato jam!! Their bread has that airy chewiness that so many other gluten free places can't seem to get as perfect as Vida does it. What else can I say? I was very excited about this place given that I'm gf. The quiche was excellent - as was the pumpkin muffin - two thumbs up. But things went downhill with the pistachio brownie which either was very old - you know how old brownies crumble and are kinda crystallized - or it was just the way it was made. And since i don't drink coffee, I had a matcha latte with coconut milk which was so watery I had to dump it. Service was nice - it was very quiet in there. Super tasty caprese sandwich. Fresh everything! BUT the sandwich was extremely small. And it cost over $9. Similarly, the shredded pork sandwich was also too small and expensive. Other Ashland restaurants offer more food for $9, so not sure where their model is off. My stomach is growling! read more
