Came in on a Sunday night to watch the late football game and luckily we were in time for happy hour. We got seated in the bar and were able to watch both the canucks game and the ravens game. Ordered the chicken wings and shrimp to share. I was expecting better flavouring on the mango wings but it just tasted deep-fried. Also, the size of the wings were small. I anticipate them to be a bit more meatier. Location and atmosphere is lovely! The place packs a ton of people in and the kitchen + servers know how to keep it moving without felling rushed. We came on Friday at 5pm and had to wait 30 minutes. We sat at the very front of the house which was quite chilly. To start, we ordered the cajun tater tots and cauliflower. There is no description online for the cauliflower; it was very flavourful but drenched in either oil or butter. The tots were very fresh and tasted like BBQ! My friend got the Shrimp Kung Pao (Farkay noodle, peanuts, asian vegetables, scallions, coconut peanut sauce. You choose how many hunan peppers). The first go came cold and the second time came overly sauced. Lots of veg, a few shrimp, but overall, my friend liked it. I got the veg Four Cheese Penne (Romano, gruyere, white cheddar & havarti cheese sauce. With bacon, scallions & a blackened chicken breast), sub chicken and bacon for broccoli. It was huge and they threw in peppers. Until I got the bill. They charged me for the chicken and a sub charge for the peppers. Meal was ok but disappointed by that! Our server Cam deserves a 6 out of 5 for how well he kept track of our orders as we mingled throughout our tables. Ambiance was a little loud, but so were we so not deducting any stars for that. Bring your own blanket... wow that was quite thoughtful of them. Covid time and so no risks involved. I loved the whole vibe of this place. High ceilings give it very spacious look and in fact it is quite huge. Different dinning seatings from bar chairs to lounges to long dinning tables. Patio is cold at night and gets extremely hot on a bright sunny day. Beautiful location, ample parking and delicious food coupled with fresh n icy drinks. Now i gave them 5 star for being so considerate towards vegetarians. I think in any of my experienced north american/ canadian restaurant, this place had the maximum amount of vegetarian items on the menu. So good to resist at the same time. read more

We came during a busy happy hour time for them.. seated right away with friendly service. They have great wine specials so that was nice. But the food took quite some time to come out when we noticed our surrounding tables were being served. I have to commend them on being proactive and dealing with that before we had to even mention it. Very genuine. Things happen, but they were rock stars about it and we left feeling really great about the food and experience. First time to this Sammy J's and it was a pleasant surprise as the enclosed patio area was so nice. It was bright, spacious, clean and had heaters along the top wall areas which kept the area at a good temperature. I got the cajun bbq chicken burger and my wife had the crispy honey ranch burger. Her burger was okay, you can taste the hint of honey mustard but couldn't really taste the sriracha ranch. My burger tasted a lot better as the flavors blended well, the chicken was juicy and a hint of heat/cajun flavor. She liked mine more. Our waitress was great, she got our drink orders, asked how our food was, if we needed anything else, while not overly coming over. Just the right amount of times to check on us. If we lived closer, we would go more often. Too bad they closed the Burnaby location. read more

Steak frites could've been in the fryer for 1 more minute and although cooked a perfect medium the Steak ( albeit a less expensive cut )was underseasoned contrary to the pic. My steak was ok but I was surprised at the lack of flavour because it looked seasoned. My 'Steak frites' was really not but rather steak julienne, not proper frites.Yes I am nitpicking but it still ain't 'frites'...I dig the traditional frites as u can tell... Wifes steak was sad,dry and well a let down, not as ordered 'cos it was def well done. Kinda heavy handed with the grill as the pics show. Service was friendly but semi attentive, but in her defense it was a Tuesday dinner rush. Patio is really nice but imo doesn't really qualify as an open air patio or maybe it was just in lockdown mode? Overall, certainly waaay better than their competition but maybe It was just one of those days, 'cos it could've been cooked properly as opposed to rushed on the grill, sat at the pass,arrives warm-ish at the table. The food was very good. However the service was not pleasant this time. I've been here 3-4 times today and the waitress we had today was horrible. She came over to our table in total 3 times first to take our order second to take our plates and last to get us to pay the bills. Don't work in a customer service field if you're gonna have an attitude. We did not tip her because of her poor service and arrogant attitude. I don't live near a Sammy's but I wish I did. They have an awesome menu and overall vibe. Last time I was there I took my grandmother out for lunch and she loved it. We had the lettuce wraps to start and they are super good. It's hard to compete with cactus clubs lettuce wraps but Sammy's does a GOOD job. For entree I had the Apple Mango Chicken Panini which was amazing and the fact that you can sub fries for tater tots basically makes my life. My grandmother had the Greek gyro wrap which she enjoyed. I had been there once before where I tried the Buddha bowel and it was equally enjoyable and the panini. Will be back good portions and good prices! read more

Do not get the tuna poke. It's the worst and fishiest tasting poke I've ever had. Maybe I'm spoiled from living in the USA before but I wouldn't even call it poke and the color of the fish did not look like ahi. When I said it was bad the bartender asked if she could bring me something else instead. I ordered the cauliflower which was good. I took my friend here for her birthday. The 'music' was so loud we could barely hear one another. I asked 3 servers to request the music be turned down. Nothing happened. Then one server asked if I wanted to speak to the manager. I did. He was rude and said it was 'happy hour' to explain the racket. I asked for head office contact and he gave it to me along with his card. (I emailed both and received no response.) The manager told me he turned down the music when he returned with the contact info. I took a decibel reading on my Apple Watch - it was 83 decibels considered harmful to hearing. The patrons of this restaurant are older, afterall this is White Rock/South Surrey. The sound system is awful so the racket vibrating out of the speakers is scratchy noise, not music. The industrial decor, i.e. bare table, industrial height ceilings, hard floors, amplifies the racket. The employees in this restaurant are at risk of hearing loss because of the noise level. So disappointed tonight. We ordered through Skip the Dishes. I ordered hot wings and asked for half to be Thai Chili - I received all Thai Chili. I ordered Strawberry cheesecake and when I opened it, I was shocked to see how small of a piece it was for 8$. Not only that but it did not taste good. Called next day and talked to a female and she said the same thing, asked when was HH 3-6pm. I said I want it for 6:30 after HH. I asked for the manager and she gave me a person under the manager. I explained to her the same thing and then she said we don't take reservations on Friday or Saturday....WHAT!! I mentioned that the phone message did not state that and the female did not say that. As soon as I arrived at the restaurant I was mistreated. The girls up front told me there was a 15 minute wait even though half the restaurant was empty. I can tell she said this because I was a brown guy in a restaurant full of cockasians. Furthermore the fries tastes gross like something u would get from Macdonalds. It was my first time eating here today, and I have to say they have great food. It was sunny out, so I felt like a salad. I ordered the strawberry fields salad and it was so good!! It came with panko-crusted chicken which was amazing & the salad had strawberries and avocado and it was exactly what I felt like. I came here over the weekend with my boyfriend for dinner. Pretty surprised with this location. It's spacious and I really liked the ambience. I felt bad for the booth behind us though because they had a really awkwardly placed booth with zero privacy that was maybe less than 15ft away from the doors. Our server was friendly and efficient. No complaints there. She was great. I ordered the White Sangria for myself though and that was really good. I could probably drink a whole pitcher to myself lol. My favorite meal from Sammy J's is the Apple Mango Sandwich with a side salad. So I got it once again. I was so disappointed. The salad was absolutely drenched in vinaigrette. The sandwich itself was SO oily the bread became soggy and I ended up giving up and just eating the crust. My boyfriend got the Blackened Chicken 4 cheese penne which was pretty tasteless. Definitely not worth the $18, in my opinion. Also worth noting: The bathroom was gross. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while as there were tissue bits and drops of.. hopefully water on the floor. Great atmosphere and food was delicious. Highly recommend the Quinoa Salad with Chicken. It was light and very the ingredients were nice and fresh. My son had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and it was delicious as well. Portion sizes were good for the price. The service both times we went was a bit slow but not to the point of annoying. Total service fail. Servers lack even the most basic training such as delivering proper cutlery with a meal (soup and spoon, ice cream and spoon). Additionally they delivered things like coffee with no spoon and no cream. To make matters worse, one of the main dishes we ordered was forgotten. Good service takes more than a smile, it takes training, something that clearly Sammy J management are incapable of. To pour salt on a wound - the tip option is reversed, so that for a customer who might have had an extra beer, is a bit older, or simply presses buttons by memory, what was intended as a 15% tip turns into a 25% tip. Horrible service guys... horrible. You want your servers to make more money, train them and pay them more. Instead you chose to provide crap service and then try to trick customers into paying fine dining tips. Lame. Really lame. I won't be back. read more

The coke arrived but coffee arrived w/o spoons so my friends stirred with their knives. I ordered the cheese/meat platter which was OK but not outstanding for $13! My tea never arrived and we asked for spoons but still didn't arrive. Sense my frustration?? Lastly asked for the bill to be separated but that also wasn't done! The tuna were these tiny little chunks...hardly call it a meal. Some of the lettuce was rusty coloured, and the avocado was bruised/blackened on one end. Pretty subpar for $18.50.
