It was perfect...big, open space with plenty of seating at high top tables, bar area, regular tables, and an outdoors area with a fire pit and TVs surrounding the bar and patio. They also had baseball and surfing on some TVs. There's a pool table too. Creative cocktails. Nice, older crowd. After the game, the bar has karaoke. And ALL of the singers were excellent!! (I was just a happy listener!). Met some nice people. They have bands from all over other nights. Turned into an unexpected and fun evening. Oh, they also serve food, but I had just eaten. The funny statues at the front give the place a unique atmosphere, and the architecture/interior of the building has a classic Cheers-like feeling to it. It's spacious and roomy on the inside with nice furnishings and it has a beautiful wooden bar area if you appreciate those things. There's also a patio with tables out front which is perfect if you have dogs. The service was super great and friendly, and also everyone we met was really friendly. It's definitely a locals hangout, everyone there was a local. While we were there we ended up talking to several people and they were all really nice. My friend and I were both clearly out of towners and both the bartender and the local people were super cool, so we definitely had a difference experience from the last two reviewers. I will say though, they do close on the somewhat earlier side, I think they closed around 12-12:30 on a Thursday when we were there so don't expect to be staying there till 2am. If you're stopping through town, honestly I think this place is a hidden gem that's worth putting on your list of places to visit.

Just silent. We were 3 women walking into this creepy male dominated bar but didn't care because we were just there to have fun. In hindsight we should have walked right back out. My girlfriend and her cousin had to use the restroom so I sat down at the bar to wait for them and order us drinks. Right away the bartender approached me and in a very unwelcoming tone told me "just so you know I've already called last call". I checked the time, it was 12:30. We had had a late dinner the next town over and had just gotten back and were looking forward to a nightcap in this town we love to visit so much. Now, we all know that bars close at 2, (it even says that on their hours when you Google it) so I was confused. I looked at the clock, looked back at the bartender, and said "it's not even 1 yet. Are you not open until 2?" To which he VERY rudely and condescendingly replied, "what, did you see that online somewhere one time?" and was visibly annoyed that I dare even ask a harmless question. At this point I had felt completely unwelcome and was basically in fight or flight mode because I could tell he just wanted a problem. Ok, you got it. I asked him what his problem was and he stammered over his words like he was surprised I could even hold my own. His goofy ass buddy playing pool stepped in as his backup at this point reiterating that last call had in fact already been called. I said "ok, that's fine, but he didn't need to be so rude about it". To which the dork playing pool replied "he wasn't being rude at all actually", like ok, are you hoping to go home with him or something? I said "you must have not heard the way he was speaking to me then" at which point this man towering over me started raising his voice and YELLING at me "I'm standing right here I heard the whole thing!" at this point I was honestly ready for whatever was coming next but by then my girlfriend and her cousin were coming out of the bathroom completely unaware of what was happening so I just called them all assholes and told my girlfriend "we're leaving, these guys are f***ing weird" and we left. The 5'4" male bartender followed us out and stood on the sidewalk as we walked to our car, I guess he was trying to look tough but our group of 3 women were all taller than him. I said loudly that he clearly has little man syndrome as we left and that was it. I have no idea what his problem was. We are very friendly and respectful people and were there to have a drink or two and a few laughs before going back to our hotel for the night and instead I was met with *attempted* intimidation by *mostly* fully grown men. I guess they wanted the place all to themselves for their little circle jerk sausage party. Won't be back. Ever. I've been a server and bartender for over 15 years and could never imagine treating anyone this way. It was truly disgusting for absolutely NO reason at all, and based on all the other reviews complaining about what is clearly the same guy, it astonishes me that this is the type of person they want representing their business. We grabbed a table on the patio, ordered a couple of drinks, and split the meatloaf while watching the World Cup. The portion was more than generous for two people sharing lunch, and everything was flavorful and well prepared. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was nice. It is the kind of place where you can easily spend an extra hour enjoying a drink and taking in the scene. Overall, this continues to be a great stop whenever we're in Paso Robles, and I'm sure we'll be back again.

Our local founder Michael McGee has been hosting it for 19 years Many of the people that attend were participants in the late great San Luis Obispo Mardi Gras festival, so there's a lot of camaraderie. There were also a lot of new faces students and locals who have taken up frequenting McCarthy's. The food was hot and earthy, a great Jambalaya served in bowls. The crawfish was the star of the show, with the rosy red beasties arriving hot from the pot, steamed and juicy. Corn, potatoes, and bread came with the crawfish. It was fun to watch the attendees learn to eat the little crustaceans, everyone expressing their delight in the seafood. This was truly a wonderful celebration with a great heart and soul. We're looking forward to celebrating many more years in the future!

First, you line up at the entrance, then you ring the doorbell, but only once as the sign warns. You are greeted through a peekaboo window in the door where they ask your party size. You are then taken in groups of three or less to a vestibule where they lock down your phones so you can't take any pictures and then you are seated in the dark and moody atmosphere. They don't split checks, so be ready to order as a group. There's a 90 minute time limit as well, so don't dawdle. Highlights of our order included the Butter Pecan Old Fashioned (so good!) and the Banana Daiquiri. We stayed for the full 90 minutes and when we left there was a long line waiting to get in. Go early if you want to get one of the few seats inside or be prepared to wait. We loved our experience.

We arrived just minutes after 5pm on a Thursday, with only one group ahead of us -- about a 5-minute wait before we were ushered in. They do check IDs, so bring one, or find somewhere else to drink. After the secret knock and moving a book in the entryway library, the door opens into a 1920s-style bar: heavy, dark wood, and very limited seating, with just 8 seats at the bar and two larger seating areas for groups. I believe our bartender's name was Matt -- the last of the original employees since Eleven Twenty-Two opened eight years ago. He was great, walking my girlfriend through the menu when she asked for recommendations, and sharing some great insight when we asked about the bar's history and the mixology behind the drinks. She started the evening with a Mexican Firing Squad -- very margarita-like, with tequila, lime, house-made grenadine, and Angostura. I wasn't quite as adventurous and wanted to keep things simple, so my first round was a martini, stirred and dry. The fun didn't stop there, since we had 90 minutes to relax before our dinner reservation. Round two was a Slow and Foamy -- a lemongrass- and fennel-infused vodka with egg white. It was an interesting drink; flavors you wouldn't expect to work together, worked together beautifully. It's an in-house creation by the female bartender, whose name I didn't catch. Torn between a Sidecar and a Manhattan, I went with the Sidecar, since I hadn't found a good one anywhere else in Paso. Matt poured a really nice one -- not too sweet, with a sugar-rimmed glass and well-balanced simple syrup. Like every drink that night, it was beautifully balanced. We finished with a Banana Daiquiri -- their unique take on the drink, without the slushy ice or fake banana flavor. This was probably the best drink of the night for both of us, and we shared it. It's not cheap, but a night out for drinks never is. That wouldn't stop me from bringing out-of-town guests here -- they'd love this kind of historical, speakeasy-style setting.
