We visited Sammy T's this past Saturday and loved our experience. The wait staff was really helpful in providing food recommendations (all of them were great since we are vegan) and our kids felt very comfortable. My husband and this wonderful tofu dish and I had these awesome spicy black bean sliders (recommended by our waitress). The craft beers were great and they will let you sample before selecting one. Overall we really enjoyed our lunch there and liked the feel of the restaurant. We would definitely visit this place again. read more

My boyfriend and I got great service, but it seemed their O2 was out for the soda machine so the two sodas my boyfriend got were both flat. No sweet tea, aren't we still considered the south? But these things can totally be overlooked by how nice our server was. They were hustling! The food was okay, but half the menu is gone with the new ownership. I got the sweet potato fries I love so much, and they aren't the same recipe. The new decor is nice, but Sammy Ts only really needed new padding for their booths, not new everything. This is my "go-to" restaurant in Fred for myriad reasons. Number one, the atmosphere: dimly lit, almost saloon-style bar setting. A changing gallery of local art lines the walls and the music selection is highbrow (jazz, soul). As for the menu, it's ideal if you're a vegan or vegetarian. The tempeh burger is to die for. So is the falafel. My personal favorite? The camper's special, which is their bean & grain burger (also excellent) wrapped up in a tortilla with chi-chi dip (their version of hummus, I'd kill for the recipe) and veggies and baked under a layer of cheese. There's plenty here for carnivores. I think their BBQ sandwich is dandy, if you prefer the vinegar style, sauceless kind. The Linwood is one of the better chicken sandwiches I've had anywhere. Tuna and turkey options, too. I do think their drinks are pricey but, hey, it's not supposed to be a dive. Great beer selection. Oh, and I'd say their entree prices make up for it. The majority of dishes are between $6-10. Nice place to dine alone, too, if you just want to savor a book with your drink and an appetizer at the bar. read more

I am a fan of frozen yogurt, but I wasn't really a fan of this place. It is extremely similar to Crave in Central Park, but if I had to choose between the 2 I would choose Crave for several reasons. 1. Crave now offers smaller cups. Sammy T's only has large cups and it's easy to overfill and end up overpaying. 2. Crave has a better variety of toppings and yogurts. Crave offered a lot of fresh fruit options that Sammy T's didn't have. 3. I thought it was kind of ridiculous that Sammy Ts had a tip jar on the counter. This is a self serve yogurt shop. What exactly the cashier does that warrants me leaving a tip is beyond me. The shop is small and when the yogurt machines kicked on it became pretty loud. Hard to have a conversation in that place. If I'm downtown I may stop by again, but I would choose Crave over this place 99% of the time. read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner. Cool atmosphere with tons of local artists hanging on the walls and you can purchase the art as well. They mostly domestics on draft, more of the bigger name beers and not too much local brews. My husband had the Reuben- which was perfectly sized and full of flavor. The Russian dressing, meat and cheese were the right amount to pair together. I got the blackened chicken sandwich- not overpowering but still very tasty. Each sandwich came with a side of chips, cole slaw and a pickle. Our server was very attentive despite being busy and always had our waters filled. First - we should have known better than to order beef stroganoff at a mostly vegetarian restaurant - the sauce was bland and there may have been an ounce or so of ground beef at the most. The bright spot on the menu was the salads. I loved the lemon tahini dressing. The veggie club sandwich was okay, but not terribly interesting. We all the loved the chocolate mousse. (First, the deletion was completely unwarranted. Nothing in the review went against the Yelp terms of service or content. Their decision to delete it seriously undermines their credibility and will make me suspicious about any review I see on this site from now on). As to my review, it won't sway those looking for Vegan or Vegetarian places since there aren't a lot to choose from. That said, others might be interested that this is the first restaurant I have ever left due to horrible service from rude and obnoxious servers. We got seated promptly, but the booth was too far from the table for our toddler to reach. We asked if we could be moved to a regular table (there were plenty open). The waiter that seated us threw a mini-tantrum before finally saying "fine, just sit there". He proceeded to ignore us for the next 15 minutes while helping every other table in our vicinity. Finally the bartender came out to take our order without so much as a 'hello', much less a smile. While she went to fill our drink order, we had to move the sugar container to the edge of our table to keep the toddler from playing with it. When she brought back our drinks she slammed them on the table, snatched the sugar container, rolled her eyes at us and walked over to the trash can and pitched the sugar and container in disgust. At that point we asked for the manager and were told there was none available. I honestly was afraid to eat any food at this point because of the hostility that had been expressed toward us. So, we explained our displeasure and left. Some might think it is unfair to give a 1-star review without ever trying the food. But for me, the whole experience left such a negative impression that I wouldn't go back there if they offered me a free meal. read more

I really would like to know what the price/ounce is here. I LOVE the craze of DIY fro-yo and feel like I am a good judge of weight/price from my years of experience. But...my cup was literally a third full - not even with a lot of heavy toppings - and it was over $5?! The pomegranate acai flavor, while original, also tasted like it had been fermenting a bit...old fro-yo ain't good fro-yo. Used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Then it just started getting weird. Tonight might have been my last straw. Everything I ordered, they were out of. But then they managed to try to charge me for the items anyway. Whereas at another table, whole table full of food, someone was offering to comp them because they were out of some items. Really? Is it that hard for a kitchen to keep some staples such as, oh maybe flour tortillas? Or their specialties? I should have been warned when a while back I ordered a Bloody Mary and they told me they were out of vodka. My friends still joke about that one. So there is Sammy T's, a joke. read more

Food is superb. I am a vegetarian and love having a great restaurant to go to that offers many choices. However, the service is abysmal. The food takes forever, which might be more tolerable if the staff had a whit of charm or personality. I always feel like the diners are nothing but a great annoyance to the servers. The seats in the back are so uncomfortable. My daughter, who is 12 and only 90 lbs could barely fit on them b/c they're so thin. The hostess was passive aggressive about me having a stroller because my son was sleeping.

I have mixed feelings about this place. I've been coming here for nearly 15 years with my mother who has been both vegan and vegetarian. This is one of her favorite restaurants. I find it to be hit or miss, both the service and the food. The Mediterranean appetizer with the hummus, tzatziki and fresh vegetables is one of our favorites. I also love the Ellen salad with the felafel and the tahini dressing. In the summer they have a great gazpacho. However, I have found that since having my daughter 2 years ago, I find that we are received with some sort of negative attitude every time we have come here with our stroller. The first time we sat outside and were told we had to fold up the stroller to keep it out of the way of the sidewalk. We were at the corner table so I just pushed it around the side of the building and it left plenty of room for people to get by. The next time we came here, this was not okay and the server actually argued with me that it HAS to be folded up completely because of the FIRE CODE and they will receive a TICKET due to our stroller being on the sidewalk despite the fact that plenty of people were able to get by without any issue. This was quite inconvenient for us as my daughter was sleeping in it at the time, so I then had to wake her up, take her out and sit awkwardly at this 2-person table with a cranky baby on my lap the entire time. The next time I came I decided against sitting outside ever again in order to avoid this issue entirely. The moment we walked in the door, we were greeted and then I immediately started trying to take my daughter out of the stroller so I could fold it up and leave it up front. The hostess then said "YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR STROLLER HERE" as if she could not see I was already preparing to do just that. My daughter was a little cranky and didn't want to get out, so I told my bf to just go ahead and sit down and I would take care of the stroller. The hostess stood there and stared at us awkwardly like as if trying to verify that I was in fact leaving the stroller there. So overall, I do not find this to be a very welcoming place for families with small children. It is all college kids working here and they do not want to be bothered I guess. Also should mention that the one time I tried the frozen yogurt around back, all the toppings were covered in mold and appeared to have been sitting out for a long period of time. read more

I am sorry to say that I ate here in November and loved the food and experience; however, I updated my review from five stars to one. I ordered the same menu item that I had last time a Mediterranean platter. The hummus looked crusty on top. I stirred it and tried it, despite it not being visually appealing. It had the worst aftertaste. Regardless, of what I ate or drank, after consuming one bite, I couldn't get the aftertaste out of my mouth. I explained to the waitress that it had a bizarre aftertaste. Her reply, to my comment, "it was made this morning." I was not offered any substation. Honestly, if it tastes and looks gross who cares when it was made? They could have validated my concern and offered more salad or apologized. I was just given my check and sent on my way. I guess don't eat a full dish and pay full price is their new motto. We showed up at 1:45 on a Wednesday afternoon... Not really a busy time for most restaurants. While waiting for a table, we saw three tables leaving, plus there were open tables, so the restaurant was not busy. We had a large party, 6 kids and 5 adults, and while the restaurant is small in size, they did their best to accommodate us. Unfortunately, getting us a table is where the service ended. We ordered drinks from the hostess, who was obviously annoyed by our children taking a moment to decide what they wanted to drink. We then waited a long time to get our drinks. After being their 25 minutes, no server ever came to the table to get our order, so I asked for the bill for the drinks so we leave. The hostess came back with the bill, to which they added an 18% gratuity, which I would understand had we been served, however we were ignored. I went to the bar and asked for a manager, and a server said, "we don't have a manager, was there a problem?" I told her that I was not happy that we had to pay gratuity of drink since we were never served, and her response was that she was coming over in a minute and that they were slammed. No service, no management, and an awful experience for these visitors. Much happier at Eileen's bakery where we got excellent service! read more

We've been going to Sammys for well over 20 yrs SammyTs recently changed ownership. I gave them a month to get their feet and went in for lunch today. I'm very happy to say that everything we tried was not just good but excellent. . The hummus [formerly chi chi dip] was great. Tip- ask them to warm the hummus like they used to. Sammy T's is a great little spot in downtown Fredericksburg, especially for vegetarians/vegans -- there aren't too many options for specialized cuisine in this area of Virginia, so it's a welcome addition to the town. There is a separate porch-like room for non-smokers, which is great, and the menu is filled with unusual yet delicious items. I thought this place was going to suck when I walked in. The food was so much better than the dark lighting and unwelcoming wooden boothes. While we were waiting to get seated, a woman told us that Sammy T's was great for some fresh, healthy home food. The food was quite good. I got a generous smoked salmon sandwich for $9 with looots of fish. The vegetables in the sandwich were very fresh. We also got a crab cake sandwich for ten bucks. There was tons of crab in the crabcake, although not very seasoned. The service was slow and I was very hungry. But the wait was worth it and we scarved down those yummy sandwiches. read more

What a huge disappointment! My friend and I had time before the Trolley Tour so "they" suggested Sammi T's. I would love to say it was even average but it was horrible. I had the cheeseburger that was overcooked and they had mixed something in it that made me wonder if the meat was bad. I left about 1/3 of it. The onion rings were ok but it tasted like the grease needed changing. My friend had the turkey reuben and she could only eat half the sandwich and left the rest.
