LOVE the new Sammy T's! The remodel is perfect. Seats are comfortable, chairs and reupholstered and the bar is spic & span. Brass railings to hang local art work is a plus. Our office held a small gathering and the wait staff went out of their way to tend to us. The food was delicious; loved the hummus plate and the crab dip was a home run. As with any new restaurant opening, there will be growing pains so I hope folks who came in the early opening days will give it a second chance. We had a GREAT experience. I have been coming to Sammy T's for years. If you are vegan or a vegetarian this place is for you. If you are not, it is for you as well because they do have non-vegetarian items. They usually have some great beers available in bottle and draft; some local and some not. The food here is why I use to come so frequently. They really do have some good and fresh dishes. I really enjoyed the black bean cakes and the felafel. You get huge portions and you never leave here hungry. They also have really good hand cut fries and taziki dip as well. Here is my biggest gripe with this place...yes it is for the most party really good veggie friendly food, however, the service here is so hit or miss. Do not expect to get in and get out of here. That is never the case. I have had good, bad and indifferent servers. Most are nice, just slow. I really don't have a good answer to why either. Yes this place does get busy, but I have had my best service when it is busy and the worst service when it is slow. Either way I am going to continue to come to Sammy T's when I am in downtown Fredericksburg because I really do love there veggies!! read more

We stopped by Fredericksburg since it was the popular town that locals tend to frequent. Now, I have a disclaimer, I am from San Diego so my definition of popular is where there are lines out the door for hot spots. I am not saying that Fredericksburg is inferior to San Diego in anyway but I was just not use such a quiet town. Okay, back to the review of the restaurant, we ate here since there was a good selection of items ranging from vegan fair to dishes for carnivores. The food was alright, nothing that made my taste buds jump for joy. I had their falafel salad and my husband had their burger. The salad was a good size with I think it was 7 or 8 pieces of falafel. It was served on top of a bed of lettuce and tabouli with tahini as a dressing. The environment was very nice; waiters/waitresses were also chill. The only annoying thing was the booths. They are very uncomfortable and creaked a lot. Not an exciting joint but worth a try. I think vegans and vegetarians would swoon over this place though. read more

This place is just ok. I enjoy the Falafel and crab cakes. The beer selection is pretty decent, but I have tasted other dishes that friends have ordered and not been impressed. Sammy Ts has some of the best food in Downtown, and so many options. The prices aren't too much (especially for dessert), and I've never managed to get something I didn't like. That said, Sammy Ts has some of the worse service in Downtown. They run out of food all the time, forget parts of your order, and worst of all is the wait. I've only ordered pickup(many times) and they always make me wait forever for food, sometimes they haven't even started yet, like they forgot I made the order. I normally wait 10-15 min before heading over there too. One time I waited 5 minutes at the entrance before someone acknowledged me(with a line behind me), then waited another 5 minutes at the bar until someone there acknowledged me. The people are certainly friendly, I think they're either oblivious or very understaffed. I can't imagine what dinning in must be like, and I don't think I'll ever risk it. So if you're in the mood for some amazing food, and don't mind waiting or a possible mistake in your order, give Sammy Ts a try. read more

We had lunch here on a recent warm Sunday afternoon. Service was outstanding: friendly, attentive, and sincere. There were 4 diners in our party with each of ordering a different entree. One had a cup of Brunswick stew and a Greek salad. The stew was a bit vinegary, but the "small" salad was a hearty portion and very tasty. Another had a grain burger that was tasty, but could have been a bit more crispy. I had the tempeh burger which was excellent. My son has a black bean wrap that was delicious. There are beers on tap in case you need one to accompany your vegetarian fare. All in all, a fun place with quality food. read more

Nice laid-back atmosphere here, but a little too laid back - our server was super flaky, very forgetful, messed up both of our orders. I got the soup and potato - decent brunswick stew, and a huge potato stuffed to be even bigger with veggies, mushrooms, walnuts, and cheese - this was good. I'd recommend sticking to just the vegetarian stuff, though, because her turkey sandwich was terrible. They make it sound like you are getting real turkey and instead its this cheapo deli meat stuff. During several visits, food and service were wonderful. But on my most recent visit, I was seated in a booth and found it astonishingly uncomfortable. Too small, too straight-backed, something else? Over-all, the food was good; I had one of the few non-vegetarian items from the menu, chicken parmesan. I recommend this place for anyone that might go to Fredericksburg for a walk in "Olde Town". I always check out every definite vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant I can find local to where I live. Sammy T's is a little bit different than the vegetarian/vegan restaurants I'm used to where there are only two vegetarian dishes with cheese, and everything else is completely vegan, easy to order raw foods (or barely cooked unless with a fake-meat), organic, etc. Sammy T's is like... vegetarian bar food/home cooking. It's good, but it's not what I expected. The service has always been pretty good with waitresses more than willing to give their suggestion on what to eat, what salad dressing to get (their lemon-tahina dressing is UH-MAZING), etc. The two times I've gone I've ordered the tempeh stir-fry which isn't your typical stir-fry. It's less fresh, crunchy vegetables (I mean this in the best way possible. Not un-fresh, just not... quick stir-fried) in a liquidy sauce... it's more of a home-y, gravy-like peanut sauce, but it's sooo much better than I'm making it sound. The portions are huge, and I've eaten too much both times. I love that I can get Orangina here... it's been since I lived in Texas that I've had it. Also, their hummus/pita/etc platter is tasty. I'm going to have to go back a third time and try a different entree... I was disappointed when I went late at night and saw this veggie burger on the specials menu that sounded amazing that they weren't willing to make because at that point in the night, those specials were over... honestly, if you have the ingredients and it's fresh-made, it shouldn't be an issue... if you were out of something, say that instead of telling me you aren't serving it at that time. That reason alone, and the lack of stereo-typical vegetarian menu-feel is why it only got 4 stars. read more

Sammy T's is pretty decent in my book. The food tastes good and the atmosphere is cozy. My issue with Sammy T' s is consistency. They don't always do the same thing. For instance, I ordered a burger and got it on a certain type of bread and the next time it came on something different. The wait staff is generally nice but sometimes they have a tendancy to ignore you for a bit. Overall, not bad though. read more

Super pleased with the service and food from Sammy T's. Stopped by on the way home from a nats game because I saw they had a tempeh sandwich. Got there and they were out of tempeh :( The waiter was quick to recommend the falafel sandwich. HUGE portion and awesome texture and flavor. Others ordered the Salmon blt on foccacia and were also extremely happy with their meal, lots of bacon ( cant go wrong) Will definitely make the trip off the highway again here. read more

We returned today after anxiously awaiting the reopening..and were so happy we did. We were so happy with the Reno..change but left the charming bits. The waiter Jeffrey was obviously happy to be at work and his enthusiasm was catching ..he was charming warm kind and so efficient. Our order was taken quickly and the meal was wonderful- cooked to perfection. Fries were as good as ever..burgers were sublime. We skipped dessert but are already making plans to go by for appetizers and drinks followed by bread pudding. We dropped in on recommendation from a friend found everyone very helpful and attentive. The polenta appetizer was amazing! I order crabcake and it was loaded with crab meat and not fillers. Okay I am going to rate this higher than I want to because the food is really, really good. Burger YUMO but they don't come with fries. But the do have sweet potato fries on the menu :) delish Server... well she was fine up to the time I was to get my change back... why, why is it here in Virginia they feel it is customary to keep your change. I am not talking all of my change. Say the bill is 21.50 and I put down 40 and bring me back 18.00, they don't come back with my change what happened to my .50 cents. Do they really think I didn't notice or do they really hire people that cant count proper change. maybe she thought that that was her tip? Really? I doubt it. So if you are a server and feel it is necessary not to bring me back my 50 cents, next time that will be the only tip you get! (just sayin) read more

Sammy T's was ok. I was with my family and ordered some gazpacho and the turkey rueben, and we shared fries. The gazpacho was basically some faintly chilled V-8 with a few chunks of cucumber and... pickle? There were pickle chunks in the soup. Gazpacho should be a cold mixture of tomato juice and finely minced parsley, cucumber, celery, onion, and tomatoes (and whatever else), not this. I was highly disappointed. The turkey rueben was okay. There was too much sauerkraut, which was put on the bottom, so it was really soggy on the bottom. It came with olives, which I liked. The sweet potato fries were really good. They were thin and very crispy, without too much salt. The waitresses were nice and attended well to the drinks, but otherwise didn't really check up on us. read more

I have been eating at Sammy T's for over 20 years and though I no longer live in the Fred, it is still the only place I want to eat when I am passing through. I make special detours off of I-95 to eat at Sammy T's. What is good? The chi-chi dip, ellen salad, chicken salad, campers special, black bean cakes, nachos, open faced turkey sandwich, fries, and the list goes on and on. Neither I nor my dining companions over the years have ever had a bad meal, including my preschool age eaters. Way back when Sammy T's used to serve breakfast, their omelets were superb, and it would be great if they'd bring back breakfast!! I miss the travel posters on the wall, which have been replaced by rotating collections of amateur art but some things never change, like expressionless waitresses. Sammy T's is a classic and is loved by vegans and meat-eaters alike - may it stay in business and continue to serve delicious healthy food for eternity! read more

When I asked about what was going on (bad and slow service, etc), I was told they were still working out "a few kinks". Indeed. My party of 4 waited for 1 hr to get out food, even though we ordered very basic items (sandwich, soup, salad, and hamburger), and the service in general was just....non-existent. The food itself was just...blah. It wasn't bad, but definitely nothing special. Lays chips straight from the bag, and a very basic burger or sandwich on white bread. Sammy T's is located in cute little downtown area of Fredericksburg. There's a nice selection of artwork available for purchase on the walls. The menu has clearly marked vegetarian and vegan items (thank you!). On a recent, cold winter night I opted for one of that night's specials - sweet potato burger with sweet potato fries (sweet potato x2). I liked the unusual / unique idea. The execution was a bit off since the patty didn't hold together well and the chunks of sweet potato were inconsistently cooked. Points for the idea. The regular fries and sweet potato fries were good. My husband enjoyed his crab cake sandwich. The whole table shared bites of the humongous piece of carrot cake. Not bad, but not the best.
