Welp I wanted Sammy's to redeem themselves and I was let down. Yesterday was Cinco de Mayo and I wanted a steak so bad! Whether we ate and a Mexican spot or not. A lot of places had about an hour wait and Sammy's had no wait. My date and I arrived no wait and sat in the bar area which was really cool it was ducked off. Our server was great I can't remember her name. I had a Sammy's margarita it was okay i didnt have a buzz or anything so that sucked. The drink was straight sweet and sour or passion fruit mix and a splash of tequila on top of my sugar rim. We ordered 3lbs of crawfish and blackened alligator for an appetizer. I loved the alligator i had it before. The crawfish were pretty tasty. Definitely cleaned a hell of a lot better than when I ate here the first time. The dipping sauce great. The potatoes I wish were boiled in the same water as the crawfish they were just plain potatoes. My date ordered the red beans and pork chops and got the pork chops blackened. He had no complaints. I ordered the ribeye cooked medium. It came with a side salad, vegetables and a potato. The ribeye was terrible. The picture doesn't do any justice but it was brown but pale looking, tasted even worse. No seasoning whatsoever so ever. It tasted almost spoiled. I had my date try it. He thought I was being dramatic at first and he agreed it tasted like it had been left out all day and spit it out. We sent it back and I didn't order anything else. I always order the pepper jack boudin egg rolls and spinach and artichoke dip with cracklings as appetizers and the bayou grilled catfish with the seafood cream sauce and steamed veggies. Sammy's is usually pretty consistently good. Don't let this review scare you away. Normally, I'm pleased with the food. This time, I had the chicken fried steak and it was kind of an odd piece folded back on itself. It was a little overcooked, possibly necessary to make sure the folded meat was thoroughly cooked. I had so looked forward to it, that it was a bit of a disappointment. The Mississippi Mud was just okay and I probably wouldn't order it again. No urgency. Wait staff couldn't care less. Again, very odd experience because the food was so good but the experience was so bad that it's off my list. I placed my order over the phone with Abby. She was very pleasant and nThis was a pick up order so I don't know if the portion sizes make a difference vs eating inside. The fish and shrimp were flavorful and I loved the tater sauce. The fries were ok. My husband was very disappointed in the size of the fish it was misleading for the price. Haven't been here in many years and especially hearing under new ownership. Restaurant was very clean and the service was fantastic. The star of this show was the food. The blackened redfish was one of the best I've ever had. My husband devoured the BBQ shrimp and daughter couldn't say enough how great the Acadian Catfish was. I think this may have been my first time here. I dined in with three others. I was surprised that the oysters they offered were baked in an oven and not charbroiled on a grill like most of Louisiana. I ordered the tuna entree which I didn't enjoy as it wasn't flavored and the tapenade atop it was just muffuletta toppings in my personal opinion. The house salad was very basic. we had the worst experience at Sammy's. We waited over 2 hours for our meal. Our waiter was unable to give any explanation as to why our food was taking 2 hours. Instead, he kept telling us that our food was on the way. We watched as other parties were served and finished before we even got our food. After 2 hours, we ended up leaving with no food or apology from management. This was entirely unacceptable, and we will not be returning. read more

I ordered the Blackened Chicken Entree, it had a mild Cajun alfredo cream sauce with penne pasta and grape tomatoes. The chicken was tender and seasoned well, the pasta wasn't too salty, rich in flavor and I thought the tomatoes would be too much but it added the perfect amount of freshness. We were told the wait time was approximately 25 minutes, we were seated in 20 minutes ( not bad, it was beautiful outside). When we were seated the waiter was pretty quick with getting to us. Our food took about 20 minutes to get to the table, but the wait was so worth it because CLEARLY, it was amazing, down to every bite. I'm happy the Baton Rouge staple is under new management as the restaurant was out of control before, and things are looking up. The parking situation overall can be bad if it's a busy evening, but they FINALLY fixed the flow of the parking lot with one way in and out signs that are visible. Honestly, that is something that frequently made us move along before because the parking lot was not accessible, but now things are MUCH better. Major plus to attract me back. We opted for takeout for an order of five. The ordering process was easy and seemed streamlined. The girl on the phone had her organizational skills on point! The order was ready when we arrived - just on time. Everyone's order looked great, was packaged nicely, nothing spilled when we pulled out the items... except the meat was missing for my salad. Usually we would have checked on this prior to leaving, but our car was a little chaotic, and a container that looked like what would have had it in it did not. We are a good 15 - 20 min away, so i just dealt with it. So buyer beware - do a double take of your take out order. Staff was friendly, everything seemed organized. The menu includes all the old favorites. I look forward to dining in one day to get the new experience, and hope it's much better than it was prior to the owner switch. read more

Went to Sammy's today with family who drove from different parts of Louisiana because my nephew came in from the Air Force before he deploys to Japan. We called ahead to ask if they can accommodate 20 people, the girl on the phone stated yes, i let her know we were on the way and gave name and she said ok. Upon arrival we go in and the rudest Host I ever seen was like they just gave the table to someone, she gave us a wait of an hour so we decided to wait it out. About an hour and a half later still no table. Finally after almost 2 hours they put some tables together but shorted us about 4 chairs so we had some sitting and some standing, they said oh well we have to wait for another table to open up. They were very unprofessional from the very beginning, from the hostess to the female manager on duty. The only employee that made our visit easier was our absolutely amazing waitress MORGAN. She was very sweet and took care of us the best she could. We had some angry people at our table due to the host, so i know it was hard on Morgan but she did amazing. If it wasn't for Morgan i would have definitely gave this place 1 star. Very disappointed in the lack of professionalism at this establishment. I work in the resturaunt Buisness and I would never treat my customers the way the host and the manager did. read more

We love eating here! About a month ago, they had a boudin cheese dip that was AMAZING! We came back and asked for it but it was apparently it was only a trial thing at the time. So disappointing! This is based on my visit today which was horrid! I called before I went and asked if the had boiled crawfish . The girl that answered the phone said yes so I drove there. I was seated right away and the waitress was there in about 5 minutes And took my order. I ordered a iced tea and 3 pounds of boiled crawfish. She brought the iced tea and told me that the kitchen staff said it would be another 20 minutes for the crawfish to finish cooking so I said no problem I didn't mind the wait because I was really craving some hot crawfish. About 45 minutes she said they were about to come out and she brought the pail to put my crawfish shells in. Another 10 minutes go by and a food runner brings out my tray of crawfish. I'm not gonna lie I was excited to dig into those crawfish but that excitement quickly turned to major disappointment !!! THE DAMN CRAWFISH WERE COLD !!! The potatoes so cold the butter didn't even almost melt. The waitress walks by so I hail her down and place a cold crawfish in her hand and tell her to go bring that crawfish to the kitchen and ask why after me having to wait almost a full hour was my crawfish and potatoes frigging cold. She comes back out the kitchen and tells me that the kitchen people said if I wait another 30 to 45 minutes they'll give some from the new batch they are cooking. HMN WELL I GAVE HER MY TRAY OF CRAWFISH AND TOLD HER TO BRING IT BACK TO THE KITCHEN AND THAT I WAS LEAVING !!! I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed with the kitchen !!!! So sad about tonight! Loved first visit a couple of years ago when in town so returned. First our name on waitlist was lost, but seated after 30 Minutes when we went in to check and got the young hostesses to get off their phones. Then got a new waiter and it took three rounds of back and fourth to get our drink order - one margarita and three beers. Then ordered dinner - and of course after about 5 minutes we were told they were out of crawfish around 8 pm, so three of four needed to reorder and of course the one available meal came right out alone. Three dinners ordered but salads that went with them delivered after the entrees. Clearly an off night. Tipped the poor guy 20 percent and we could only laugh at our luck! Disappointing. Came into town looking for good crawfish, locals suggested this place and it was a let down. Despite having a half dozen people standing at the hostess stand seating people in an empty restaurant is still a struggle. Having more hostess than servers didn't help lead to being acknowledged or prompt service. Waiter was nice enough once he finally came and did get the order right, that's the only reason this isn't a one star. The saltine crackers they served with their gumbo have more flavor than whatever they are boiling. No spice, no flavor, even the corn and potatoes were bland. So what happened to Sammy's home made onion rings, all u get is onion strings, that was a good appetizer on there menu a while ago, also what happened to the white chocolate bread pudding. This was our first time here. We have gone to the one in Prairieville multiple times before it closed. First off the salads were very good BUT the over kill in lettuce was a bit cumbersome. It was extremely hard to mix it without a bunch of it falling onto the table. Being it was on a plate made it an even more hard of a task. A oversized bowl with less lettuce would have been perfect. No one wants to take home a big pile of lettuce anyway because of course your protein isn't that big of a portion and you eat all of that for sure. Also, my son got seasoning on his fries and he definitely doesn't like that, so instead of the waiter leaving his plate so the 8 year old can start on his chicken, he took it to the back and then brought out a whole new plate. Luckily our son is very well behaved although he did say a few times "I'm so hungry......" as he watch his brother eat and parents too. So just a tip, let children start eating, if a portion of the plate was right and then bring what wasn't. It's not like you can reuse the fries he didn't want..... or let's hope not. The mud pie was disappointing not what I expected, and it was a pretty small piece of dessert for the eight dollars they charged me, but live and learn. Tanner was a great server and I'm glad that they're back to their former excellence. Before they changed owners the last meal I had here just totally sucked, good to see they have reverted back to good food. First of all, it's important to know that my Virginia-raised kids had their first ever boiled crawfish at Sammy's about 10 years ago. It was a life changing experience for them.
