Dined here two night in a row because it was so good. Had the cornbread for "one" which is served with cinnamon infused butter and maple syrup. Very good. Then ordered jerk fried chicken which was amazing as were the old fashions. Then last night I started with cup , which is really a small bowl, of gumbo which was very good plus the Boudin balls which were also good. Main was the Cajun fish which was again amazing. My co worker and I went here for lunch and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the small skilled cornbread as a appetizer and it was the best thing ive ever tasted. I opted to eat at this place strictly for the cornbread and I'll be back for that same reason. It amazing it melts in your mouth once you add the syrup and the butter provided. The Tasso pasta was a lunch portion but I had enough left over to eat for dinner they give you a nice portion. It's also seasoned pretty well. I believe I also asked for the chicken to be blackened so that was a plus. I had the house salad, the do not carry ranch dressing but they had this particular dressing that I can remember the name of tha was a cross between Caesar and Greek dressing it was amazing. Cecelia is located in downtown Baton Rouge and it is the perfect restaurant for an intimate date night. My date and I did not make reservations but there was sitting available at the bar. The bartender was very nice and sweet and she made an excellent cocktail. I was not as impressed with my entree as the chicken lacked flavor. It was supposed to be jerk flavored but it was more so a fried chicken breast. I will say the red beans and rice were delicious. Overall this restaurant is worth a try. read more

First Time at Cecelia Creole Bistro and WOW! I finally made it to Cecelia Creole Bistro after having it on my list for quite some time. The restaurant has a really nice ambiance, though it's on the smaller side (I believe it may be the old Restaurant IPO location). Because it was the last day of Baton Rouge Restaurant Week, we decided to order off their special menu and it did not disappoint! We couldn't resist also adding a half pan of their famous skillet cornbread, and it was just as indulgent as it sounds. Honestly, it's hard to even break the courses down because every single dish was spectacular, cocktails included. Starters: * Crispy Pork Belly with Caramelized Peaches & Bourbon - the flavors were perfectly balanced, rich yet bright. * Summer Corn Chowder with Yukon Gold Potatoes & Bacon - comforting, creamy and full of flavor. Entrees: * Short Ribs over Gruyère Grits with Asparagus topped with Bordelaise, it was melt-in-your-mouth tender and decadent. * Black Grouper over Brabant Potatoes with Sauce Soubise & Green Tomato Chow Chow - my personal favorite! The acidity of the chow chow paired beautifully with the richness of the sauce Soubise. Went on MLK Day, probably wasn't as busy as it usually is because downtown was low foot traffic that day. The waitress was super kind and helpful, I was with others who were unable to have pork, and she was very knowledgeable of the menu and the items in each dish. She recommended they have the alligator bites while I indulged in the boudin balls! So tasty both dishes. The pasta was great as well, I was stuffed leaving, I really wanted dessert but couldn't take another bite. Best steak I've had in Baton Rouge hands down. And we've just about seen them all. So tender! We got the Andouille Eggrolls for an app.. delish. The mash that comes with the Filet is a Yukon gold potato mash and it is so good. I ordered the collards with my Filet and I'm telling you right now, I'll be going home trying to perfect that! For the crawfish étouffée, Brussels (would not get again), French onion soup and shrimp and grits (not pictured) the étouffée was delicious. Soup was not hot and shrimp and grits had WAY too much sauce. They also charge you for a side of butter with no warning. So careful what you ask for not knowing you'll probably pay for it if it's not included in the meal.... Very silly to see that charge or she should have said that's an additional charge. My first visit was in February and let's just say I am a regular and my favorite thing to order is the Rosemary Pear Martini, skillet cornbread and the shrimp and grit plate. Everything is good! The service is really nice with being seated in a short period of time and a server comes to take your order timely too. If it's busy you may have to wait but I've never waited over a few minutes to be seated. The building at this establishment gives you a nice "warehouse" vibe with nice pictures and things that reminds you of Louisiana. Hi! It's me, your new favorite spot to grab a bite to eat downtown in BR! Highly recommend getting the cornbread as an appetizer but also, why not as a dessert?! We each got a couple glasses of wine and beer with our meal. We ended up splitting the Cajun Grouper (spicy!) with a side of braised collard greens (which were outstanding and I could eat that all by itself). Service was quick, food never took too long and were there in under an hour and a half. Love the quaintness of this restaurant. Definitely will sit at the bar next time we go but highly recommend for date night, eating by yourself or just wanting a great, home cooked meal! Came here for dinner on my birthday with relatives. Such a quaint atmosphere. I am a big fan of shrimp and grits so that's what I ordered. While they were good, I've had a lot better. The sauce just wasn't it for me (too thin). Folks in my party had the redfish and the crab cake, both were VERY GOOD. The brussels sprouts were some of the best I've had. The crème brule was good if that's your thing. I am a bread pudding connoisseur; however I'm not a fan of blueberries so I didn't order it. I will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. My friends and I got lucky to not only stay in an AirBnB just across from Cecilia's, but to be able to sneak for an early dinner before my hooding ceremony at LSU a few weeks ago. Because we didn't realize that we had to make an RSVP a day or two in advance, we didn't get a table but were able to be seated at the bar. The bartender was great and we must have arrived a bit before the dinner rush as everything came out from the kitchen fairly quickly. So I cannot even begin to describe how heavenly this meal was from start to finish. My friends and I ordered some appetizers to share including the Skillet Cornbread, Sweet & Spicy Alligator, and the Sweet Chili-Glazed Brussel Sprouts. What a great mixture of apps to get us started. Given that we were celebrating my graduation, I went ahead and ordered what sounded like the best sounding item on the menu for me - the Redfish Cecilia. That is a dish that I could have as my last meal on this Earth and be completely content with. It was absolutely delicious. And the funny part is that I don't even like grits, but I loveddddddddd these grits. We started with the fried green tomatoes on crostini with pimento cheese. I kinda wish this had been just: pimento cheese on top of the tomatoes (the bread was unnecessary and a little stale.) We split the fried jerk chicken served on top of red beans and rice. The chicken was fantastic, a little sticky and a little spicy. The red beans and rice were good, but not really warm enough. She gave her suggestions off the drink, lunch, and main menu and was able to answer any questions. When the appetizer skillet cornbread came out, it was fresh from the oven still steaming when you cut it, which allowed the cinnamon whipped butter and maple bourbon glaze to melt and soak into all the books and crannies of the cornbread. The main course was from the main menu was named after the restaurant, the Redfish Cecelia. The fish was grilled properly, still flaky and tender while the corn grits were very creamy.
